Texturing Modular Assets in Substance Painter
Welcome to this week's blog on creating semi-realistic stylized textures in Substance Painter for beginners! Today, we'll explore a simple 4-layer approach to achieve a handpainted, gradient-like look that's perfect for stylized environments like your Project Circuit Claw.
The 4-Layer Approach
Our texture will consist of four key layers:
Base Color
Ambient Occlusion
Edge Highlight
Gradient
Base Color
Start with a solid base color that sets the tone for your asset. Choose a color that fits your overall environment theme. For Circuit Claw, you might opt for cool blues or warm oranges depending on the area.
To add depth, try using a Fill layer with a subtle noise pattern. This breaks up the uniformity and adds visual interest.
Ambient Occlusion
Add an Ambient Occlusion layer to enhance the depth and form of your model. Use a dark color with low opacity and set the blend mode to Multiply. This will darken the crevices and undersides of your asset, creating a sense of volume.
Edge Highlight
Create an Edge Highlight layer to make your asset pop. Use a lighter version of your base color or a complementary hue. Set the blend mode to Add or Overlay and mask it to affect only the edges. This will give your asset a subtle glow and enhance its silhouette.
Gradient
Finally, add a Gradient layer to tie everything together. This can be vertical, horizontal, or radial, depending on your asset's shape. Use colors that complement your base, perhaps transitioning from cool to warm tones. This layer adds depth and interest to large flat surfaces.
Tips for Variation
To avoid monotony in your modular assets:
Color Shifts: Subtly alter the hue of your base color for different modules.
Gradient Direction: Vary the angle or type of gradient across assets.
Wear and Tear: Add slight variations in edge wear or scratches to differentiate pieces.
Remember, the key to semi-realistic stylized textures is finding the balance between simplification and detail. Don't be afraid to exaggerate certain elements for visual appeal.
Happy texturing to me:) , and see you next week for more updates on the Project. Toodles!

This has been in my mind for so long and I wanted to tell someone. I find you very friendly so I'll tell this to you.
I don't like the way the mainstream media addresses the speculation of Harry and Louis' relationship. They treat it as, speak of it as a silly fandom theory, or something that is middle school type with no weight. Why is that? Is it because it is mlm? Or is it because that is how the speculation started, like as a ship? I wonder do they ever research? Follow them, their schedules like they do with the stunts? It irks me a lot, because you guys spend a lot of time researching, learning new things doing big brain things (I love your big brain) to give a coherent writing.
When Harry was asked about SC, he was asked as "your relationship with Louis Tomlinson" which sounds much better than Louis being asked "Larry conspiracy" (what even was that?). I think I'm taking this personally. I think many of you have been used to it. Imma suck it up 😔
All I ask is treat with respect.
Hi! Thank you for your nice words and like choosing my inbox and all that lol, yey I'm friendly!
I'm gonna get into this because I also have stuff on my mind and I'm gonna tell you it right back, but I just wanna make clear that I'm not set on becoming a discourse blog haha. Everytime I answer asks like this it's met with more asks about such kinda things and although yeah I do have opinions I mainly wanna use this blog for my and your entertainment, and I feel like these kinda things dilute it loads and don't really result in bringing anyone much happiness at the end of the day. That said it's good to just write shit down to get them out of your mind (literally the reason I am here, but more in the sense of crazy SBB theories hehe) so let's just do that for a bit ;)
If it helps anything, I don't think the mainstream media has addressed this speculation in a good while. I might be forgetting things here but not since mid-2019 maybe? So two whole years? Of course you can do a quick search and find me a super recent "article" but the thing is that those are tiny tiny "news" nonsense websites, one of many that just recycle stories for clicks, and this conspiracy is a juicy one. If you're exposed to them you're either looking for them or are exposed to overactive baby larries not being able to distinguish types of sources. These kinda sites don't care it's right or wrong, sometimes I wonder if there are even people behind it or it's entirely automated lol. I mean it's a fasttrack to getting clicks here. It's something controversial about a big name celeb, and not just that, one that has a whole following that's gonna interact with posts like that. And that's all that matters. If you check what these kinda sources about anything else you will find many ridiculous and honestly hurtful claims about many celebrities. It's just recognizable name + shock factor = clickyclicky. It's bait, in this case, actual larrybait. (just to avoid this topic coming up again - I probably talk about whatever question this raises somewhere within this rant)
Ok this just kinda rambles on and instead of trying to make sure I don't repeat myself in an endless loop of nonsense I'm just gonna plomp in a cut and hit the post button and move on with my life so you're just gonna have to deal with that sorrryyyy
As for the things that did come from mainstream media before, a big difference between Louis being asked about the "Larry Organisation" and Harry about Sweet Creature is that I think Harry's interviewer was just naive and thought she just had a good question and there really wasn't much to it, like she full on expected him to have a little chuckle and go oh them silly fans no ofcourse not and was honestly confused when he just started channeling his inner horse for a good minute, but Louis' was a big ol setup for a denial, a classic The Sun Exclusive featuring the involvement of a bunch of punchable faces that had been shaping narratives around him for a good while. Like that one... pff it's so on the nose it's almost like they're making fun of their audience because really what the hell? If you want to have an example of a "presenter" telling you what opinion to have and what to think about what answer is gonna come up before the person even get's a chance to speek watch Dan Woototo talk before Louis brings up iPhone conspiracies.
Back to current times, I mean, there's no "narrative push", there's no outlet that's running the place (like The Sun or Mirror or TMZ) that's still pulling this shit. I'm talking the above kinda behavior. Yes there is a huge narrative push still, there's a push towards ho-ho-holivia, but no longer away from Larry as there has been in the past. I mean maybe they're saving it up for some kinda promo somehow, (Larrybait! Woo!) but call me hopeful, I do think it's in the past.
So yeah there still might be "media" that is part of the mainstream consensus bringing it up and treating it like a silly little theory, but that's based on news articles from years ago. And yeah that image is set, those narrative pushes that it's a conspiracy they're bothered with, that their friendship suffered from it and all that, that's out there now. That's the first thing you find then you start looking into this, when you somehow one way or another now become exposed to larry and start googling. That's what's being presented to us as how we should think and feel about this. And you know, most people aren't capable of spotting the way views are being shaped and just take whatever is spoonfed to them, like I'm sure there are many issues that I just take and swallow as they are presented to me that I don't realise have nuances to them (or are blatant lies even) that just don't have a grasp on whatsover, so who can blame them. But there are also many people that through whatever route have realised even the most credible sources are, how would you say, inclusive some form of agenda and purposefully add or lack nuance where there should or shouldn't have been, just because presenting it this way raises the least amount of questions, just because whoever is involved behind the scenes will have that result in the most comfortable / least problematic public response, just because writing this article that's full of bullshit was somehow better than another alternative for whatever reason. This is applicable to anything and everything, once you realise that everything revolves around money and isn't about honesty or the right thing to do, a whole lotta things are going to be put into perspective and start making sense. And I mean everything everything, I didn't necessarily write this with 2 people in love and having to hide it from the public in mind, because god that all sounds a bit much, but it is totally applicable there too. And I'm not tinhatting anything, this is like about the most basic little things, because there are nuances to things, nuances that if spelled out are just going to be misinterpreted by a large portion of the general public because let's face it we're just a bunch of idiots. As someone who has written articles (not to sound pretentious I'm just not finding a way to explain what I mean otherwise; and I mean research articles, absolutely not even close to the same things but perhaps similar in dealing with having to account for the "public"[in my case probably sad handful of specialists but ok]'s perception of your writing) it's totally a thing that you're gonna shape your story a certain way with maximum chances of the reader buying into your shit. In my case, it's not shit and I work very hard on making sure my claims are true (in, you know, actual research, not in my bullshit larry reaching because I can't and don't know that), and not finding (nearly) conclusive evidence is going to prevent me to write any article at all, which isn't the case in the entertainment industry. They can write about whatever they like, and they're going to be selling the stories that sell the best, with the goal of getting these stories out there (in case of a narrative exclusive thing).
The thing is, that you mention, "It irks me a lot, because you guys spend a lot of time researching, learning new things doing big brain things (I love your big brain) to give a coherent writing." You're here in my ask box, like just the fact that you found and read my blog means that you cared enough and were open enough to getting clarity the topic, for you to understand personally and form an opinion while being open to the idea of them actually being together, and on a personal level that's fine, and on a blog level that people only find once they start sniffing around on their own accord that's fine. Thinking of applying such a thing to a mainstream audience, thinking of someone who is somehow involved with mainstream media doing that for research as well... isn't... isn't a thing. Like imagine you're a writer, you write articles, you fall down a larryhole and somehow you have the opportunity to write an article about it that's going to reach a mainstream audience... would you write about it? Would you do it? I mean, what are you really doing then? Attempting to out them? Also why'd you bring this to the attention of people unaware, uninterested, lacking context, no grasp on how the industry works, perhaps even homophobic, etc... I don't think anyone would write about it. Like openly, kindly, just like truly about their relationship. (Unless you know done subtly ;) ) Those who are open to the idea that they're together, or even those who know the truth, stay silent. Because they value their privacy, understand it's an intricate issue and things are at stake you know, maybe even because they aren't allowed to. Or, again, they somehow subtly hint at it and that's all. You know, like articles just pointing out how nice they are, just articles just casually dropping they were at the same place without insinuating anything else, something like that. That's the kindness and respect that you're looking for.
I don't know what it's like, I don't live in that world, but I imagine that world really isn't all that big and everyone just kinda knows peoples public lives have little to do with their personal ones, and just treat them like, well, like the public versions of themselves when talking about/to them in public, and so it's mostly just not even brought up you know. I think loads of people are aware (and also they're not special at all in terms of being closeted in the industry, so for those not really that focused on this running conspiracy but knowing these people this is just another closeted couple you know so it's... I mean it's not normal but it's just what it is.). Just what makes them unlike any other is the decades worth of sneaky behavior to pick up on for those (fans) receptive to it, that they created a huge wave of people over time that are deeply invested in their relationship because it's what they have shown time and time again is something they want, that they're not letting go, they're keeping us here, they don't back the fuck down in letting us know they're insane[affectionate] little puzzling chaotic evil[affectionate] weirdos[affectionate], a side of them that nobody is going to notice unless you're a way too invested fan and these shits[affectionate] have trained you to send your brain into a frenzy like you have 3 mins left to finish your maths exam whenever there's any new content at all. Long story short nobody cares and that's not necessarily a bad thing.
But there have been interviewers that have shown some distaste when bringing up the ship, I know. I think those are some heteronormative outliers that just googled their names real quick for some spice and just found a larry conspiracy headline without any desire to break through that spoonfed opinion, are just blissfully hetty unaware that closeting is a thing even, and just feel perfectly content blatantly assuming their public images are exactly what they look like and that what they're doing is just a silly little funny question and nothing more, maybe paired with the expectation that the person they're interviewing is the hetty het het that would find the ship a big ew ew. I think you can tell sometimes with interviewers they get thrown off their game when the person isn't going along with their vibe, like that they entirely expected they would. Other times it's bait. Some times it's both.
It's a weird place, I don't think you can put every instance of speculation in the same box, I think it's mostly naive or naive+baity (not to mention very very het) interviewers and some ancient recycling of painful articles, but we'll see what the next round of promo will bring. Currently with the high-profile hohowiwiwa I think it's probably just not gonna be mentioned, like maybe even to the point where interviewers are gonna be asked just not to go there. Not based on much, just what makes sense to me. So yeah, the vast majority I think treats with respect (I think all the examples in here are pretty positive), it's just the crazy outliers you hear the loudest and kinda linger and leave a bad taste.
Anyyyyyway cute gif cute gif where are you gimme a good gif
Yes cute

The Windows 365 Cloud PC

The Windows 365 Cloud PC
On July 14th 2021 Microsoft announced Windows 365, a cloud service that introduces a new way to experience Windows 10 or Windows 11 (when it’s generally available later this calendar year) for workers from interns and contractors to software developers and industrial designers. Windows 365 takes the operating system to the Microsoft Cloud, securely streaming the full Windows experience—including all your apps, data, and settings—to your personal or corporate devices. This approach creates a fully new personal computing category, specifically for the hybrid world: the Windows 365 Cloud PC. Much like how Microsoft embraced the cloud for other products, MS vision for a Windows 365 Cloud PC is to deliver a new way to experience Windows through the power of the cloud—while solving both novel and traditional challenges for organizations. This new paradigm isn’t just about allowing and securing remote access. The user experience is more important than ever for attracting and retaining talent, improving productivity, and ensuring security. Windows 365 is built on Azure Virtual Desktop, but it simplifies the virtualization experience—handling all the details for you. You can scale processing power and monitor the performance of the Cloud PC to make sure your users are getting the best experience. We’ve also built analytics into the service to look at connection health across networks to make sure your Cloud PC users can reach everything they need on your network to be productive. From the Endpoint Analytics dashboard, you can easily identify the Cloud PC environments that are not delivering the performance needs of a given user, and not only can you get recommendations, but you can also upgrade them at the touch of a button, which is immediately applied without missing a beat. Our new Watchdog Service also continually runs diagnostics to help to keep connections up-and-running at all times. If a diagnostic check fails, we’ll alert you and even give suggestions for how to correct the issue. For greater customization and flexibility, especially if your organization has virtualization expertise, Microsoft recommend Azure Virtual Desktop, which continues to see significant adoption as organizations modernize VDI in the cloud. You can read more about MS increased investments in Azure Virtual Desktop in today’s Tech Community blog.

Office 365 ProPlus updates
Today’s post was written by Ron Markezich, corporate vice president for the Office commercial marketing team.
Office 365 ProPlus delivers cloud-connected and always up-to-date versions of our most valuable enterprise apps. Today, we’re making three important announcements related to ProPlus: changes to the Office 365 system requirements; improvements to the ProPlus update model, including alignment with Windows 10; and new tools and programs to manage ProPlus application compatibility.
Changes to the Office 365 system requirements
Office 365 ProPlus is the very best way to experience the Office 365 services. For IT, ProPlus delivers the most secure and most complete suite of productivity apps available. And because the apps are cloud-connected and always up-to-date, they’re continually getting better—with new security features, new telemetry and new management capabilities. For end users, ProPlus brings the Office 365 services to life. When a modern app is connected to a modern service, magic happens. People can collaborate in new ways. Apps can simplify mundane tasks. And advanced security services can protect users as they work.
When customers connect to Office 365 with a legacy version of Office, they’re not enjoying all that the service has to offer. The IT benefits—particularly security—are cut short. And the end user experience in the apps is limited to the features shipped at a point in time. To ensure that customers are getting the most out of their Office 365 subscription, we are updating our system requirements.
Office 365 ProPlus or Office perpetual in mainstream support required to connect to Office 365 services. Starting October 13, 2020, Office 365 ProPlus or Office perpetual in mainstream support will be required to connect to Office 365 services. Office 365 ProPlus will deliver the best experience, but for customers who aren’t ready to move to the cloud by 2020, we will also support connections from Office perpetual in mainstream support.
Applies to Office 365 commercial services only. This update does not change our system requirements or support policies for the Office perpetual clients, Office perpetual clients connecting to on-premises servers, or any consumer services.
More than three years’ notice. We’re providing more than three years’ notice to give IT time to plan and budget for this change. Until this new requirement goes into effect in 2020, Office 2010, Office 2013 and Office 2016 perpetual clients will still be able to connect to Office 365 services.
Visit our Office 365 Tech Community to learn more and to ask the experts your questions.
Improvements to the Office 365 ProPlus update model, including alignment with Windows 10
Moving to Office 365 ProPlus requires an initial upgrade and ongoing management of regular updates. Customers quickly see the benefits of the move, but they’ve also asked us to simplify the update process—and to improve the coordination between Office and Windows. To respond to this feedback, we’re pleased to announce that we will align the Office 365 ProPlus and Windows 10 update model. This change will make planning and managing updates for both Office and Windows easier for customers using the Secure Productive Enterprise.
Targeting September 2017, we will make the following changes to the Office 365 ProPlus update model:
Two updates a year. We will reduce the Office 365 ProPlus update cadence from three to two times a year, with semi-annual feature updates to Windows 10 and Office 365 ProPlus targeted for March and September.
18 months of support. We will extend the support period for Office 365 ProPlus semi-annual updates from 12 to 18 months (starting from first release) so IT professionals can choose to update once or twice a year.
System Center Configuration Manager support. System Center Configuration Manager will support this new aligned update model for Office 365 ProPlus and Windows 10, making it easier to deploy and update the two products together.
See the upcoming changes to the Office 365 ProPlus update management article to learn more.
New tools and programs to manage Office 365 ProPlus application compatibility
One of the biggest concerns customers have about the move to a new version of Office is application compatibility. Office add-ins and VBA solutions often play a significant role in key business processes, and application compatibility is an important consideration in both upgrades and updates. To help customers manage ProPlus application compatibility, we’re pleased to announce four new investments.
Upgrade assessment tools. Starting today, we’re offering a limited preview of new tools that will catalogue the add-ins and VBA solutions in use in your organization, identify potential issues with the upgrade to Office 365 ProPlus, and recommend steps for remediation.
Application compatibility testing. For each new Office 365 ProPlus release, we will perform compatibility testing of the most common third-party add-ins, identify potential issues, and take steps to remediate.
Office 365 ProPlus monitoring services. We will provide new services to monitor your ProPlus deployment and provide visibility into the usage and stability of apps and add-ins.
Reporting, tracking and resolving issues. We will improve our existing service for reporting, tracking and resolving application compatibility issues—and partner with customers and ISVs to find the best approach to remediation.
You can learn more about the upgrade assessment tools today, and we’ll have more to share on our application compatibility testing program, the new Office 365 ProPlus monitoring services and the new service for reporting, tracking and resolving issues in the coming months.
We are here to help
If you’re connecting to Office 365 with a legacy version of Office, you’re not enjoying all that the service has to offer—and we’re here to help. For more information on Office 365 ProPlus deployment, refer to the Office 365 ProPlus Deployment Guide and the ProPlus Ignite On-Demand sessions. And when you’re ready to make the move to ProPlus, the Microsoft FastTrack customer success service will help you with the details. Visit the FastTrack website to learn more and submit a request for help with planning, assessment and deployment. ProPlus is the very best way to experience the Office 365 services, and we’re committed to helping you upgrade with confidence.

Are you currently deploying or planning to deploy Microsoft 365? Looking for best practices for deploying Microsoft 365? Read on to find out how Microsoft FastTrack can help you—and to learn about some key Microsoft 365 deployment considerations to keep in mind.
1. Start with a solid plan
Your plan needs to go well beyond technical deployment to include assembling a team, identifying business scenarios, onboarding users, and transforming how they work. Identify your goals concisely so that they can be tied directly to your organization’s bottom line.
Customers who have defined DIBS tend to be more successful in deploying Microsoft 365 and in accelerating user adoption. DIBS makes it easy to remember some of the most crucial aspects of building your plan:
Due Date – a specific target date to go-live.
Intent – a desire for the solution and commitment of resources to enable it.
Business reason – an understanding of why your organization has invested in Microsoft 365.
Success owner – the stakeholder or executive sponsor who owns getting the value from the Microsoft 365 investment.
Focus your initial plan on business processes rather than technologies. For qualified enterprise customers, FastTrack can help you plan your implementation, including assessing your current environment and providing remediation guidance. Alternatively, you can take advantage of the many self-service tools available to all customers on the FastTrack site.
2. Assess network readiness
Consider the number of users, whether they’re local or remote, and the number of WAN sites involved in your deployment. Also, include steps in your plan to avoid latency issues.
Helpful resources:
Microsoft’s best practices – network considerations
Network planning and performance tuning
Bandwidth connectivity to Office 365
3. Engage with your security team
The Microsoft FastTrack team can provide guidance on security best practices during your engagement. Make sure to include your organization’s security, compliance, cyber security, and audit teams early in the project. These internal teams can help you define security elements, such as separation of duties, data classification, governance, data retention, compliance, and litigation policies.
Helpful resources:
Security session video from Microsoft Ignite 2018
Microsoft Security and Compliance Center

4. Create your identity strategy
Start by setting up a separate Azure Active Directory tenant for each Microsoft cloud service. Work with marketing and other teams to select the best tenant name, because it’ll be visible in various locations. Explore available identity options such as cloud, synchronized, and federated identities. Learn about the tools and Microsoft Azure features that are available to set up and manage identities.
Helpful resources:
Office 365 IDFix tool
Setup directory synchronization with Azure Active Directory Connect
Office 365 identity and Azure Active Directory
5. Build a licensing strategy early
It’s critical to assign licensing early in the process and before any data migration occurs. Eliminate onboarding delays and reduce costs by assigning the right licensing SKUs. Consider the number of employees rather than accounts—you’re likely to find cost savings. FastTrack has developed several tools based on experience working with thousands of customers to help you with licensing and onboarding.
Helpful resources:
PowerShell or AAD groups to handle license assignment through the Azure portal
Semi-Annual Channel (Targeted) for Office 365 ProPlus channel updates
Office Readiness Toolkit to remediate earlier Office versions or apps
6. Understand your migration needs In general, workgroup mailboxes or data should be migrated together to eliminate complexity, reduce costs of hybrid environments, and to deliver the best possible user experience. Test a small group of users first, followed by larger workgroups. FastTrack provides data and email migration services to eligible customers at no additional charge.
Helpful resources:

"Standing behind our application compatibility promise – Desktop App Assure" by Aleks Lopez originally published September 26th 2018 in FastTrack Blog articles

On September 6th, Microsoft announced two new resources to help our customers shift to the modern desktop – Desktop Analytics and Desktop App Assure. As the FastTrack lead for application compatibility, I’ve spent the last 12 months speaking with many customers who are rolling out the modern desktop – Windows 10 and Office 365 ProPlus. I’ve learned first-hand that application compatibility is always top of mind, particularly as our customers move to the Windows 10 and O365 ProPlus update cadence. Although many customers consider Windows 10 to be highly compatible with existing applications, IT Pros are always on the lookout for information and support that boost their confidence as they upgrade their Windows devices.
We hear you loud and clear: your applications need to work on all supported versions of Windows 10 and Office 365 ProPlus. In response to your feedback, I’m pleased to build on the September 6th announcement and share details about our new service from Microsoft FastTrack: Desktop App Assure.
Windows 10 is the most compatible Windows operating system ever. Through millions of data points from customer diagnostics, and the Windows Insider validation process, we’ve found that 99 percent of apps are compatible with new Windows 10 versions. You should generally expect that most applications that work on Windows 7 will continue to work on Windows 10 and Office 365 ProPlus. But if you encounter application compatibility issues as you deploy Windows 10 and Office 365 ProPlus, or with a subsequent feature update, Desktop App Assure will help you fix them at no additional cost to your eligible subscription (150+ seats).
Our Desktop App Assure service is here to:
Assist customers in remediating custom developed line-of-business applications
Engage 3rd party software vendors to help remediate their Windows 10 applications and issue support statements for Windows-as-a-Service
Address issues found in Microsoft first-party products (including Office macros & add-ins)
Desktop App Assure availability
Desktop App Assure will be in Preview in North America (English only) starting October 1st with global language support beginning February 1st, 2019. Get started today:
Identify and validate Windows 10 applications and Office 365 ProPlus macros and add-ins that are essential to your business operations. Leverage Windows Analytics Upgrade Readiness and the Office 365 ProPlus Readiness Toolkit.
After October 1st for North American customers, submit a request for help through the FastTrack Portal.
Learning from our global customers
We’ve had the opportunity to work with many customers as we piloted our service in recent months. We’ve gained insights into how Microsoft can enhance our tools, products and the Windows operating system to improve application compatibility. We’ve also learned how customers can reduce the burden of application testing by trying a few quick, but easy to forget troubleshooting steps before they embark on weeks of troubleshooting apps that appear not to work on Windows 10. Chris Jackson, a friend of our program, shared these learnings in a recent blog post. We will continue to share our learnings, product improvements and tips and tricks through Chris’ blog. I encourage you to share your feedback and most common compatibility concerns with us so that we can provide the information that is most helpful to you.
These are exciting times for me and the Desktop App Assure team and we look forward to working with many of you in the coming months. Beginning October 1st, you can find out more about Desktop App Assure at https://aka.ms/DesktopAppAssure. I’ll also share news related to the service and improvements we’re making based on our learnings via my Twitter page and Chris Jackson’s blog.
Attending Ignite?
Join our session BRK 2225: Speeding your way to the modern desktop with FastTrack where my colleagues and I will share information related to deploying the modern desktop with FastTrack, including more details about the Desktop App Assure service. I’d love to learn more about your needs, get your feedback on Desktop App Assure, and discuss how we can help your organization.

"Microsoft Teams meetings and calling news roundup: The latest features and new upgrade tools" by James Skay originally published January 29th 2019 in Microsoft Teams Blog articles
Over the past year, Microsoft Teams has expanded with new messaging, meeting and calling capabilities that make it the primary client for Intelligent Communications in Office 365. Today we are pleased to share several updates, including:
New meetings and calling features in Teams
Updates to the Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams roadmap
New tools in the Admin Center for IT administrators to upgrade to Teams-Only mode
New Microsoft Teams features and functionality
Microsoft Teams continues to grow as the hub for teamwork in Office 365. We are continually adding new experiences, including those previously found in Skype for Business, as well as features new to our online meetings offering, such as background blur.
Now Teams includes several features previously available only in Skype for Business Server: Group Call Pickup, Call Park, Shared Line Appearance, and Location-Based Routing (public preview). These features give organizations flexibility in how calls are handled and routed in Microsoft Teams. Learn more about these features in the Microsoft Teams Blog post, Additional Voice Features for the New Year.
We’ve also released enhancements to Cloud Recording, Outlook Meeting Scheduling for OWA, and Surface Hub Support. You can see the latest updates in the Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams capabilities roadmap. For additional roadmap updates, please visit the Microsoft 365 Public Roadmap.

Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams capabilities roadmap
Teams-Only mode available in Microsoft Teams and Skype for Business Admin Center
Today, we are pleased to announce that “Upgrade to Teams-Only mode” functionality is now available for all tenants. Tenant administrators can now easily upgrade specific users or their entire tenant to Teams, with a few clicks in the Teams Admin Center. This new functionality makes the technical elements of the upgrade easier.
That said, it’s important to keep in mind that the move from Skype for Business to Teams is much more than a technical upgrade. A successful, user-centric rollout begins with educating users and encouraging adoption of Teams’ collaboration and communication capabilities, often through a period of coexistence of both Skype for Business and Microsoft Teams. We encourage you to make the move to Teams-Only mode after validating Teams meets your needs by monitoring the Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams capabilities roadmap, initiating Teams pilots within your organization, and driving Teams usage to 100% saturation with your user base.
We have published a rich set of online resources including Success With Teams and Get Started on Your Skype for Business to Teams Upgrade to help with Teams adoption as well as upgrade planning and management. These resources have been recently updated to incorporate learnings from real customer engagements and community feedback. You can also refer to our sessions from Microsoft Ignite 2018 on the planning, change management, and technical sides of the Skype for Business-to-Microsoft Teams upgrades. (See session recordings: Designing your path from Skype for Business to Teams: Start Here! and Planning a seamless migration from Skype for Business to Teams for IT Admins).
Automated and assisted upgrades from Skype for Business to Teams
In August 2018, we began offering Microsoft-driven automated upgrades to our smaller customers who may not have the dedicated staff or resources to upgrade their Skype for Business Online tenants. Tenants that are selected to participate in the automated upgrade process are notified through the Office 365 Message Center and email to the IT administrator. Customers who receive an offer for automated upgrade do have the option of performing the upgrade on their own, or to defer the automated upgrade. Details of the process and next steps are provided in the communications to tenant admins.
Larger Skype for Business Online customers and those with complex implementations may also be eligible for upgrade assistance. If your organization has already adopted Microsoft Teams and you are interested in upgrading from Skype for Business, reach out to your FastTrack representative or your Microsoft account team to continue the journey to Teams. You can also leverage the expertise of Microsoft partners to help map and navigate the journey to Teams.
Introducing Microsoft Teams Rooms
Last week we announced we are rebranding Skype Room Systems to Microsoft Teams Rooms. The new name comes on the heels of recent improvements to the meeting room experience, including proximity detection for Teams meetings, and dual-screen support to optimize content and video for rooms with dual displays. Learn more in the blog post Introducing Microsoft Teams Rooms.

Extended support for SharePoint Server 2010 ends in October 2020

"Extended support for SharePoint Server 2010 ends in October 2020" by Bill Baer originally published November 10th 2018 in Microsoft SharePoint Blog articles
This month marks the beginning of the 24-month countdown before SharePoint Server 2010 reaches end of extended support. It’s not too late to start planning an upgrade or migration to the latest version of SharePoint whether your plans are on-premises, in the cloud, or somewhere in between.
It’s hard to believe it’s been over 9 years since we announced SharePoint Server 2010 at our first SharePoint Conference outside of Seattle, SharePoint Conference 2009 held in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 20th, 2009 at the Mandalay Bay with the keynote delivered by Steve Ballmer.
SharePoint Server 2010 ushered in a new era of capabilities delivering a platform for composite applications and flexible information management through the newly introduced Access Services and sandboxed solutions to support rapid application development. SharePoint Server 2010 helped workers find information and connect with subject-matter experts, regardless of their location and with the versions of SharePoint to follow, to include our latest 2019 version, we’ve continued that mission – to connect the content and people that matter most.
As revolutionary as SharePoint Server 2010 was at the time, our latest versions of SharePoint both on-premises and in the cloud through Office 365 have even more to offer. For customers who want to upgrade to the latest version of SharePoint on-premises, you will first need to upgrade to 2013, 2016, and finally 2019. Through advancements in both on-premises and hybrid cloud capabilities, SharePoint Server 2019 provides the benefits of years of cloud innovation, providing best in class IT and Developer experiences, along with new user experiences that work the way users work. Customers can also choose to migrate their data directly from SharePoint Server 2010 to 2013 or to SharePoint Online.
Customers wanting to maximize their on-premises server investment should strongly consider migrating to SharePoint Server 2019 as SharePoint Server 2013 is already well into its own 10-year lifecycle.
If you’re planning an upgrade or migration to SharePoint Server 2019 or SharePoint Online, a list of useful resources is available in the resources section at the end of this post.
Mainstream support for SharePoint Server 2010 ends in October 2020. SharePoint Server 2010 has been on extended support since then, which means only security updates are released. On October 13, 2020, Microsoft will completely end support for SharePoint Server 2010. Here's what end of support means for you:
No critical updates where released in 2017 for SharePoint Server 2010 under extended support.
No security updates will be developed or released after end of support.
More importantly the operating systems supporting SharePoint Server 2010 are reaching or have reached end of support.
Lack of compliance with various stands and regulations can be devastating. This may include regulatory and industry standards for which compliance can no longer be achieved. For example, lack of compliance with Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standards might mean companies such as Visa and MasterCard will no longer so business with you. Or, the new cost of doing business will include paying catastrophic penalties and astronomically high transaction fees. In the worst case, lack of compliance can even result in lost business.
Servers running SharePoint Server 2010 are affected. Both virtualized and physical instances of SharePoint Server 2010 are vulnerable and would not pass a compliance audit. Many applications will also cease to be supported once the operating system they are running on is unsupported. This includes all Microsoft applications, including Groove Server servers.
Staying put will cost more in the end. Maintenance costs for aging hardware will also increase, and you will face added costs for intrusion detection systems, more advanced firewalls, network segmentation, and other security measures-all simply to isolate legacy server operating systems and SharePoint Server 2010.
Not migrating is more costly in the end.
Two important considerations are the costs and the risks of not migrating. Costs will include adding or dramatically improving an intrusion detection system, more advanced firewalls, network segmentation, and so on simply to isolate servers. There will also be costs for maintaining aging hardware and potentially the cost of a Microsoft CSA. Without the CSA, there are risks. End of support means no fixes, and that means your SharePoint Server 2010 instances are vulnerable to any new security issues. And vulnerable servers are a target for security breaches of various types.
Migration options
Migrate to SharePoint Server 2016 or SharePoint Server 2019
If your unique business characteristics and requirements will result in remaining on-premises for the foreseeable future, SharePoint Server 2016 and SharePoint Server 2019 are great opportunities to modernize your infrastructure and take advantage of the latest in content collaboration and portal technologies. Upgrading to the latest versions of SharePoint on-premises is a multi-phased approach meaning you will need to first upgrade to SharePoint Server 2013 before you can upgrade to SharePoint Server 2016 – and for SharePoint Server 2019, upgrading to SharePoint Server 2013, then SharePoint Server 2016, before upgrading to SharePoint Server 2019. Below are helpful resources for navigating the upgrade process.
