i bought a new fitness tracker because i didn't like what google was doing to fitbit and also my fitbit is now well over seven years old and beginning to show its age and it's wild because even the absolute budget off-brand ones now have more features and options than my 2017 model fitbit and like. i know that's just how technology works. but it is still remarkable to go for a cheap alternative and discover it's fancier than what you've already got
#it's got a COLOUR SCREEN??#i can set funky layouts with pictures and shit?#it's also a bigger screen but the way the strap attaches is less bulky#so i can read it more easily but it's not any bigger on my tiny wrists#which is good bc my old fitbit charge 2 was literally wider than my wrist with the strap attached#pearsanta

Why could this tiny thing that I clipped to a belt loop track floors climbed a dozen years ago, but now I can't find a watch with an altimeter that doesn't also have a GPS, compass, and $1k price tag?
#The Fitbit Charge 2 I stole from my mom because it had sleep tracking now spends nearly as much time dead as alive.#I don't mind leaving Fitbit behind because since Google bought it they've trashed the usefulness of the stats.#personal

my fitbit died and wouldn't take a charge like 2 years ago but I never trashed it and on a whim I tried charging it again last night and it's back

My current Fitbit Versa 2 is finally breaking. The side bottom doesn’t work and it doesn’t hold a charge that well.
I’m looking into a new fitness watch, but I might downgrade to a Fitbit Inspire. I don’t really need anything fancy. I like the heart-rate monitor and I like being able to track my sleep, and also like to see my text notifications, and that’s about it.
So I don’t see the point of buying a more expensive watch with fancy features, if I don’t really need them.
Feel free to share what watched you use and why you like them.

While we are off topic, FYI, if you have a fitbit and it suddenly starts shutting down when it vibrates, can't keep the time, won't accurately show the charge, etc, and you plan on buying a new one, tell support and they will have you reset it and then when that doesn't work, they will give you a discount code. It's a known issue with luxe and charge 5 at minimum and seems to strike a few months after the 2 year warrenty expires...
#I litterally don't have time for this thing to die right now#I rely on it to know if I get a text#fitbit#worst timing ever#If the next one does the same thing I'm going to switch companies

my dad had gotten these free extremely cheap fitbits from his health insurance. He only really cared to use one for the clock. The problem is he has an old crappy amazon fire tablet (the first one he ever got) that is his favorite. Amazon tablets dont allow you to download the fitbit app, but I had bought him a new galaxy tab (that does allow you to get the fitbit app) a year or 2 ago. He hardly ever uses it, so he never syncs the fitbit. With fitbits, if you dont sync them regularly, the clock time doesnt sync and will eventually display the wrong time. So he would ask me to help him sync it with the galaxy tablet once in a while (I had showed him how to do it a couple of times but since he never uses the tablet, he always forgets). He finally got sick of trying to sync it and threw the fitbit away.
So then, even though he owns a couple of watches already, one of which is a luxury watch given to him by my friend who works at a watch company (won't wear because it's "too nice"), he buys a watch that requires charging via usb but doesn't have the fitness stuff. And I'm just like "why don't you just get a normal watch with a battery so you don't have to charge it??"
He also got one for my mom, who I bought a really nice watch for a couple of years ago, but she doesn't know where she put it.

Trying to start my new year off right by doing all the things but really I just put all the things on my to do list and now I already feel behind. But! I did still do lots of things this weekend
-grocery shopped and meal prepped
-laundry (did not fold but that’s a next Sunday task)
- cleaned out and deep cleaned the freezer and fixed the pullout drawer so the freezer can close all the way again
- cleaned the microwave
- replaced the broken bulb in my basement
- worked on organizing photos. Both for social media posts/documenting and for general storage with my new 1tb external memory bank thing from my dad (and like three google photo accounts 😂)
- picked out and ordered a new smartwatch because after getting a new Fitbit band it has stopped charging. I got the Garmin instinct 2 because it had most of the things I wanted and came it purple. I’m actually really excited that it’s button operated and not touchscreen because I often use it while riding and wearing gloves
-ordered socks and underwear. One of New Years goal is to stop wearing socks and underwear with holes
-ordered a bunch cruppers and crupper accessories to support mission keep pony saddle from slipping forward so she’s not ouchy and doesn’t buck me off. Once I figure out what size she needs and if it works for her, I can custom order a purple gemstone crupper to match her bridle.
-wrote thank you card
-cleared out my to-do papers (mostly sorting into folders or recycling or depositing checks (thank god for mobile deposit)
And now it’s Monday and I have to work and I still should clean out and organize my fridge and pantry, and nail polishes, and shirt drawer, and probably whole closet. I need to get a new air filter for my furnace, still need to actually figure out budget stuff now that mint died, and various crafting tasks. Including cutting out more t-shirt napkins and finally donating my old clothes box that’s been sitting for over a year.
#so many tasks!#so many things that need doing#and so many that I just want to do#and my priorities are always shifting#but here’s to hopefully a good 2024!

Unveiling Precision: Google Pixel Watch 2 and Fitbit Charge 6 Redefine Heart Rate Tracking
In the ever-evolving landscape of smartwatches and fitness trackers, the Google Pixel Watch 2 and Fitbit Charge 6 emerge as pioneers, showcasing the pinnacle of heart rate tracking technology. As we delve into the intricacies of these devices, it becomes evident that they are not just wearables; they are sophisticated health companions.
The Foundation: Advanced Sensors Contrary to the common misconception of heart rate tracking relying on pulse vibrations, the technology embedded in both devices surpasses expectations. The introduction of PPG sensors (photoplethysmography) marks a paradigm shift. By utilizing green LED light, these sensors measure blood circulation's volume and movement, providing a more nuanced understanding of heart rate.
The Google Pixel Watch 2 takes it a step further with its multi-path LED sensor, covering more skin surface area. This enhancement ensures more accurate recordings, especially during dynamic activities like High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). The struggle against the nemesis of heart-rate tracking—motion—is met head-on, resulting in a remarkable 40% improvement in accuracy during vigorous exercises. Illuminating the Path: Lights and Modes
The devices offer versatility in tracking modes. While passive all-day tracking optimizes battery life, the exercise mode illuminates all sensor lights, ensuring comprehensive data capture during intense workouts. It's a balancing act between efficiency and functionality, tailored to the user's needs.
Harnessing the Power of AI
A true game-changer lies in the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The Pixel Watch 2 introduces an enhanced algorithm, a testament to the symbiosis of technology and health. These devices go beyond merely capturing heart rate data; they process it through advanced AI algorithms. The Charge 6, despite being a fitness tracker, inherits these algorithmic advancements, delivering a seven-day battery life while managing the added computational load.
Evolution Through Testing
The journey to perfection involves relentless testing. The development team's commitment is evident in their rigorous testing methods. From running on the beach to simulate unpredictable movements to accounting for diverse factors like skin tone, age, gender, and environmental conditions, the algorithms are refined to offer not just data but high-quality, reliable insights.
Beyond Numbers: Daily Readiness Score
It's not just about heart rate data; it's about actionable insights. The culmination of advanced HR sensors and AI-led algorithms births the Daily Readiness Score. Whether signaling readiness for a strenuous workout, indicating the need for rest, or suggesting a gentle push, these devices empower users to tailor their fitness journey.
A Healthier Tomorrow
In essence, the Google Pixel Watch 2 and Fitbit Charge 6 transcend the conventional boundaries of wearables. They are not just watches and trackers; they are health partners equipped with cutting-edge technology. The meticulous fusion of sensors, lights, AI, and continuous testing reaffirms their commitment to delivering accurate, meaningful data.
As we embrace these advancements, we not only monitor our heartbeats but embark on a journey toward a healthier and more informed lifestyle.

While I’ve been home visiting and helping my family with things I found my old Fitbit! It’s a Charge 2 that I was gifted in 2017 from my grandparents and it still works?! I am ✨STOKED✨
I got some new wristbands for it because the one it came with broke - and I thought it was the actual Fitbit not the bands back when I got an “upgrade” (but the Charge 3 sucked imo).
I am seriously SO. EXCITED. to use this and get back on track with my fitness and health after so many setbacks over the last couple of years.

I'm considering changing brands of smartwatch/fitness watch

I've had a Fitbit since 2019, I specifically like the Inspire 2 because it has a slim design and a long-lasting battery life. If you know anything about Fitbits business, you'll know that they sold out to Google a few years ago now, and they've gone downhill significantly because of this.
The watch works great still and it does pretty much everything I could ask for from such a simple smartwatch(steps, calories burned, heart rate, sleep tracking, alarms, timers, tracking exercise, miles traveled, push notifications from my phone, the date, and of course the time.)
The app is the issue, Google has removed a lot of great features from Fitbit, the water tracking reminder, the community features, the challenges, and the ability to view the dashboard from a desktop, plus a lot more and very likely stuff I'm not even aware of.
The big thing I'm struggling with when I'm considering looking at other fitness or smartwatches is that they're too big, have features I don't want or won't use, and the battery life is significantly less than what my Inspire gets.
I have a Samsung phone and have recently been looking at the Samsung Health app, and it's UI is similar to Fitbit, but with features, I've found myself wishing Fitbit had(saving custom meals, with individual ingredients).
It's frustrating when everything is so large and bloated with features and short battery life, I know a lot of people prefer to charge their watch at night but I want the sleep data.
I just wanted to vent a little, if you read all that and have any recommendations or watches you like or know of for me to check out, I'm definitely interested.
