22 from the ask meme
22: List some of your 'artspirations'
It's been a while since I've been able to make something for me. I'm mostly surviving on commissions right now. But they're almost always something I might not have considered making.
Or something that seems way beyond my skill level, that then just isn't?
But those commissions lead to other similar things. I was asked to make a pair of flintlock pistols which then led to the flintloctopus. And I was asked to make 'throwing weapons' so now I have a pile of half finished axes and daggers.
But mostly it's games I'm playing or movies I'm watching. I like that prop! I bet I could make something like that! And maybe one day I will.

So I was playing Breath of the Wild, and thought 'I could make that... '
Then the handle was too weak (no core material) so I had to change it. I made a mess of the seams and had to cover them up somehow. And all those angles on the pointy bits! I can't let anyone see what I did, better cover those too..

It's a long way from what inspired it, but I think it turned out ok

And sometimes I just start gluing bits of foam together without a plan

Do you have any OCs? feel free to talk about them if you do
What was the first piece of media you engaged with on the internet? Are you still interested in it?
What's something you made or did that you're proud of?
What's something that made you smile this month?
My OCs? There's something I've been trying to work on for a while inbetween other projects. But it's not very far along because there are so many other projects 😭
So far the character is only known as The Masked Justice. I think about her a lot. I even wrote some of it down. Recently she's started showing up in my mind with a friend. Called Keysmash.
So the whole thing eventually will be a comic. 3D modelled and rendered to look something like this:

I'm not very far along. Modelling everything means I only have to make it all once, then it can be posed and rendered from any angle. The only downside is I have to model everything.
But The Masked Justice is worth it 😎
What was the first media I engaged with on the internet?
The earliest I remember is a new Sonic the Hedgehog game 😁 I read everything I could find about it. Every preview, every fan theory, every review. Everything. For months before it was released.
I'm still interested. I want to get the new one but I have no money.
Something I made that I'm proud of?

Behold! The Flintloctopus!
Something that's made me smile this month?
Not much. I've been counting down the days until Christmas and my birthday. They're just a few days apart. And this year I'm going to be completely alone. So..
My parents and my sisters keep talking about their plans and how excited they all are. I might as well be invisible. It's not a fun feeling when you realise you don't matter at all

I made a silicone mould of the 3D printed octopus. Finally. The plan is to cast it in foam clay so I can use it on the new Flintloctopus that I'll definitely make one day.
There's foam clay in the mould now, but it will take a while for the deepest part to set
#the worst part of prop making is all the waiting for things to dry#I had to wait overnight for the silicone to set#now I'm waiting for the foam clay to dry out#and later I'll be waiting for the paint to dry

My first attempt at the big octopus for the side of the flintlock.
It printed well enough, but it's too small ☹️

Ok, so these aren't the most detailed things, they were made to be used as stunt props, to be seen from a distance, in the dark.
They took about two weeks to make. Including the time it took to work out the design from photos, and plan exactly how I was going to make them.
I've made one more since then. Called the Flintloctopus (because it has an octopus on the sideplate).
So now I'm thinking I need to make more for my Etsy store.
But! Should they be like these two above, but with more detail, or more like the Flintloctopus?
Or something else?

I'll start taking pictures at the beginning next time instead of starting halfway through

I printed another one, as big as I could on my printer without modifying the model. I think it's big enough now

#thanks haiku bot #no context
Ok. So.
This is a resin print of an octopus that I'm planning to use on a new version of the flintloctopus.
Which doesn't help at all..

This is the flintloctopus. There are more pictures on my foam crafting sideblog @foamcraft-armory
It's a flintlock. With an octopus on the sideplate. It's made of EVA Foam. That's what I do, I make foam cosplay and Larp props. This one is in a pirate collection now.
The resin octopus is a tiny version of the big one I made by hand that will go on the end of the grip. Once I make a mold of it and cast it in foam clay.

And this is what the dynamite will look like when it's finished. It's also made of foam. I have four of them that I need to finish

I made this instead of the dynamite I should have been working on

I might, maybe, possibly have time to make some more progress on a new Flintloctopus
