Coyote
The car from Hardcastle and McCormick. A few differing origin stories about how and when it was built made it hard to pin down stats. The most common stats attached to it is a custom built tube frame and chassis, a flat six Porsche 2.0 engine and 4 speed transmission. The Franklin Auto Company made the original Coyote 2 seat roadster, 1909-1910, 2 were made. Ford Motor Company attached the name to an engine. And then of course there's the Roadrunner issue.

Heartbreak in the 2.0 Sports Class at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans
Perhaps it's understandable given that we're coming off the Rolex 24 at Daytona, but I've been on a bit of an endurance kick lately, and I've come across a story that, while painfully, incredibly, niche, I actually found pretty fascinating. It's the heartbreaking story of a car that survived 24 fearsome hours of 1960s Le Mans...only to fail in the very last laps and miss out on the finish.
Our story takes us to the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans, a race infamous for the battle between Ford's GT40 and Ferrari's 330 P3, however, there was another story brewing in the background: the rise of Porsche.
Ferrari had dominated the early 60s, Ford would take the late 60s with their GT40 winning four in a row, but in 1970, Porsche would breakthrough and take their first win at Le Mans before going on to become the dominant force of the 1980s.
For 1966 though, it was still early days for the Porsche project. Nevertheless, they already possessed some of the numbers that would make future Porsche efforts famous:
3 factory Porsche 906/6 LH "longtails" in the 2.0L Prototype class.
2 factory Porsche 906/6 Carrera coupes in the 2.0L Sports class.
1 privateer Porsche 906/6 Carrera coupe in the 2.0L Prototype class.
And a privateer 911S in the 2.0L GT class for good measure.
Wait a second...why so many different classes? Why do most of those cars seem to be the same model? Why is one Carrera 6 in the Prototype class while the other two are in the Sports class?
Well, the short answer is that old school Le Mans was complicated.
These days there's a clear distinction between classes: Hypercar is the fastest, LMP2 in the middle, and then GTs. Back then though, it was more of a chart - there were Prototypes, Sports Cars, and GT cars.
Prototypes were dedicated racing machines, Sports Cars, meanwhile, were a bit of an odd area, in that there was a 50-car homologation and these cars needed to have all the equipment necessary to be road legal (but as far as I can tell, there was no requirement to actually sell 50 road cars or anything, not yet at least). GT cars, meanwhile, were the actual sports cars for the road modified for racing use.
The other axis of the chart, meanwhile, is displacement. For 1966, there were 1.15L entries, 1.3L entries, 1.6L entries (though none showed up), 2.0L, and then we skipped all the way up to the 5.0L and the 5.0L+ classes.
In Porsche's case, all their cars were powered by a 1991cc Flat-6, meaning that they conformed to the 2.0L class in Prototype, Sports, and GT.
As for the 906, well, they produced the 50 906 Carrera 6s necessary for homologation, but for Le Mans, they brought the longtails. The 906/6 LH, with a monstrous rear overhang - I don't typically use pictures in these blogposts because of image rights, but look up a picture of it, it's hilarious - streamlined specifically for the mighty Mulsanne straight.
So, these 906/6 LHs were leading the charge, and they were up against a trio of Dino 206 prototypes - with Ferrari's 1986cc V6 - but our story focuses on the 906 Carrera 6s.
The #33 Porsche driven by American Peter Gregg and Swede Sten Axelsson, and the #58 driven by Germans Gunter Klass and Rolf Stommelen.
These were, quite literally, the only entries in the 2.0L Sports class. Ford had five GT Mk. 1s (in addition to their eight Prototype Mk. 2s and a sixth GT MK. 1 that didn't make the race) but those were in the 5.0L class, meaning that they weren't competing with Porsche.
Not that it mattered, considering that none of the Mk. 1s finished the race.
So yeah, quite literally two cars competing for the win, and they were strong too.
With the big cars falling away one by one, the Porsches were getting closer and closer to the front, and all five of the factory Porsche System Engineering entries were running in the top then. Thus, as Ford was planning their three-car photo finish for the overall win, Porsche was planning on a five-car photo finish just behind them.
Then...disaster struck.
Shortly after his last pitstop, Peter Gregg, then in seventh place, started experiencing an engine issue.
This must've been within the last hour of the race, probably forty-five to thirty minutes left, and the #33 car had completed a mighty 321 laps, but they were failing so close to the end of the race. In an attempt to make the finish, Peter Gregg parked the car in the pits and waited for the clock to tick down and the Fords to cross the line, figuring that he could at least nurse the car home for one final lap.
The #58 Porsche was still out there, making laps and taking the class lead as well as seventh place overall, but with the Germans on 330 laps and the next car on track being a Ferrari 275 GTB car in the 5.0L GT class on just 313 laps, Gregg could still finish in the top ten at Le Mans and be part of a five-car Porsche photo finish.
So, on the last lap, Peter Gregg tried to restart the car and complete one final lap...but it wouldn't turn over.
He missed the photo finish, and he missed the finish completely.
321 laps done, but he couldn't get it over the line to finish the race.
Thus, Porsche had to content themselves with a four car 4-5-6-7 finish, while Peter Gregg and Sten Axelsson earned the heartbreaking distinction of retiring of engine issues...24 hours into the race.
With none of the GT40 Mk. 1s making the finish and all three Dinos out early in the race, this means that the Klass/Stommelen car was the only Sports entry of any kind to finish the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans.
So yeah, Peter Gregg and Sten Axelsson...they were on for a class win and a photo finish for Porsche, only to run into a heartbreaking engine issue at the very end of the race. From class lead and seventh overall to a DNF.
To add insult to injury...that one 911 did make the finish, completing 284 laps for a 14th place finish.
Less laps but...they finished the lap that counts: the last one.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem is under internal investigation for pushing officials not to certify Las Vegas gp as safe for racing and also for trying to interfere over Fernando Alonso getting a penalty in Jeddah 2023 race (he got a 10 second post race penalty which promoted... George i think? but later the penalty was overturned and he reclaimed the p3 and got his trophy back the next gp), apparently he also asked Max Verstappen to publicly defend/support/back Christian Horner as a way to calm down the situation where everyone talked about nothing but his workplace bahaviour (I suppose Max refused so that's kudos to him for doing the correct thing)
Aston Martin Vantage Safety Car will debut in Saudi Arabia (and will be back in British green)

Concept Cars; How Car Manufacturers Flex Their Imaginations

Since at least the 1930s, concept cars of some form have existed. Most are promptly forgotten as soon as a new group appears, but many are remembered by the public for years. Car concepts could almost entirely remain behind closed doors, or they could be used to promote the brand at a global auto show, or it could be something else entirely.
Concept Cars, The 1940 Aston Martin Atom
Originally equipped with a 2.0-liter overhead-cam engine, the Atom was a compact and strikingly designed sedan. However, in 1944, it was replaced by a pushrod engine with a slightly bigger capacity. It must have impressed David Brown (1904-1993), who drove it just before he decided to purchase the business, but a production version was never made.
Concept Cars, The 1955 Chrysler Falcon
The Falcon, a fast two-seat roadster with a 4.5-liter Chrysler Hemi V8 engine, was principally designed by Virgil Exner (1909–1973) and constructed by Ghia. It may have been a rival for both the first-generation Ford Thunderbird and the original Chevrolet Corvette, but Chrysler chose not to proceed with its release. It was unveiled two years after the first Chevrolet Corvette.
The 1968 Alfa Romeo Carabo
When Marcello Gandini created the scissor doors and low wedge shape for the mid-engined Carabo, he must have been staring straight ahead into the future. The world may not have been prepared for anything like this in the 1960s, but Alfa Romeo prevented it from progressing past the concept stage. The Carabo, however, is very similar to another vehicle that Gandini created. In contrast to the previous concept, the Lamborghini Countach went on sale in 1974. The 1970 Mazda RX-500
The RX-500 initially appeared to have been created for similar purposes as the Alfa Romeo Carabo. It had a mid-mounted engine (in this instance a twin-rotor), butterfly swing doors, gullwing engine covers, and a wedge shape—albeit not nearly as severe as the Carabo's. All of this shouted "supercar!" but the RX-500 was actually designed to highlight Mazda's safety studies. It included a row of lights at the back, among other things, to let oncoming vehicles know if the vehicle was closing down, accelerating, or maintaining speed.
Concept Cars, Nissan 126X
The 126X, another wedge-shaped idea from 1970 (a lot of that kind of stuff was going on at the time), shared the Mazda RX-500's changeable rear lights. It had a slightly less supercar-like form than the Alfa Carabo or Mazda, but it was still somewhat strange. Nissan outperformed the other manufacturers in one area: the roof, windshield, and front body panels were all part of a canopy that opened from the front to provide access to the cabin.

Despite being only four meters (157 inches) long, Italdesign's solution to a challenge set by the New York Museum of Modern Art was able to accommodate five people and had room underneath the seats for folding wheelchairs. Sliding doors on both sides added to the practicality, which was rather unique for 1976. You don't now link Alfa Romeo with New York taxis because the project was abandoned after the car was constructed. Shame, because it's a fascinating idea.
Concept Cars, 1978, Lancia Sibilo
The Megagamma and the Sibilio are only related since they both wore Lancia badges and attended the 1978 Turin Motor Show. They were as dissimilar from one another as chalk and China, otherwise. In essence, the Bertone-designed Sibilo was an even longer and more bizarre-looking Stratos. A 2.4-liter Ferrari V6 engine powered both the idea and the final vehicle.
The 1986 Audi Sport Quattr RS 002
The RS 002 was never meant to be merely a theoretical idea. This mid-engined coupe was one of several vehicles constructed for the Group S international motorsport regulations, which were set to replace Group B in 1987. It used the same mechanics as the Quattro rally cars. Group S was dropped in favor of the more production-based Group A after a string of catastrophic crashes. Before the car participated in a single race, the project was canceled because the RS 002 could not have been produced in sufficient quantities to qualify.
The 1992 Renault Reinastella
The Reinastella, a purely fictional vehicle that was reportedly part of the company's lineup in the 2328 model year, was on display at Disneyland Paris. It was named after a real Renault that was temporarily manufactured about 1930. Since it's hard to choose the right tense in this situation, we'll assume we're talking from the middle of the 24th century and say that the Reinastella could fly up to 186 mph and fly 15 cm (6 in) over the road in town and 150 meters (492 ft) above it in the country. A prototype appears to have absorbed the remains of its two occupants when it crashed during desert testing. Renault employed a redesigned construction that was incompatible with animals for production models.
Concept Cars, 1999, Bugatti 18/3 Chiron
The 18/3 Chiron was first produced when Volkswagen first acquired Bugatti. A 6.3-liter, 555-bhp engine with 18 cylinders grouped in three banks—thus the 18/3 part of the car's name—powered the three designs that were created around the same time. The remainder alludes to Louis Chiron (1899–1979), a Monegasque driver who competed in a number of vehicle brands but is arguably best known for his exploits in Bugattis. Bugatti's hypercar, which debuted in 2016, was given the Chiron name.
Concept Cars, 2006 Saab Aero X
Saab claims that the company's background in aircraft design served as some inspiration for the Aero X. This was partially demonstrated by the need to raise the cockpit canopy in order to allow passengers to enter and exit, which may be troublesome if you were unlucky enough to land rubber side up. It was claimed that a bioethanol-fueled twin-turbo engine could generate 400 horsepower, and the style elements suggested a future design language. Unfortunately, this was not very successful, and Saab was discontinued less than ten years after the Aero X was introduced.
2010 Citroen Metropolis
The Metropolis, an extremely large sedan that was especially popular in China, was as wide as a Maybach and longer as an Audi A8L. Power was provided by a 2.0-liter V6 engine and an electric motor as part of a gasoline-electric hybrid drivetrain. According to reports, this has the same amount of muscle as a 4.0-liter V8 that isn't hybrid, but it emits a fifth as much CO2. In 2020, the comparable DS 9 made its debut in China, while the Metropolis was never launched on the market.
2012, Chevrolet Code 130R
A tiny, rear-wheel-drive Chevrolet with a 1.4-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that could generate about 150 horsepower was proposed as the Code 130R. There was a lot of support for a production version, and it was well received. Ford is a name that holds significance for drivers across multiple generations globally. Ford, being one of the leading manufacturers, has produced some of the market's most famous vehicles, ranging from high-performance hot hatches to durable SUVs.
Ford offers a wide range of vehicles, including their performance lineup which includes Ford RS and Ford ST models. Though they both have attracted loyal fans in the car enthusiast community, we will concentrate on the second one.
Let's delve deep into the background, features, and the different models available of the Ford ST.
The history of Ford ST:
Ford ST originates from the 1990s, during which Ford opted to add a touch of athleticism to certain models. The ST badge was launched in Europe to designate high-performance models in the Ford range.
The initial Ford ST model introduced in 1996 was the Ford Mondeo ST24. It had a 2.5-litre V6 engine that offered improved power and handling qualities in comparison to the regular Mondeo. The ST24 received positive feedback, paving the way for the growth of the ST line.
Throughout the years, Ford continued to enhance and improve the ST lineup by introducing additional models to meet the needs of various market segments. Characteristics:
The 2.0-liter Ecoboost engine in the Ford Focus ST produces 184 kW and 360 Nm of torque. It takes 6.5 seconds to reach 0-100kph, with a maximum speed of 248kph. The fuel efficiency is calculated to be 6.8 liters per 100 kilometers. Auto-Start-Stop is included in the package as well, leading to an increase in fuel efficiency by as much as 6%. This motor is connected to a 6-speed manual gearbox.(Brown, 2023)
The Fiesta stood out with its easy power. The 1,6-liter turbocharged engine delivers 240 N.m of torque starting at 1,600 r/min up to 5,000 r/min. When entering Mpumalanga from Gauteng, simply press the right foot to overtake slower trucks. Having 205/40 R17 tires on its wheels and a firmer suspension setup to ensure the Fiesta ST stays stable on suitable road conditions, I did notice it felt unstable on imperfect pavement. The Ford Puma ST can be equipped with either a 1.5-liter turbo three-cylinder petrol engine generating 197bhp, or a 168bhp 1.0-liter Powershift version with mild-hybrid technology. The 1.5-liter engine has strong power at low rpm and increases power in a consistently linear manner. With an endorsed 0-62mph time of 6.7 seconds, there are faster sports SUVs available, but the performance is sufficient for it to be an enjoyable driving experience. The Powershift variant takes 0.7 seconds more to reach 0-62mph, making it seem somewhat ordinary compared to other models in its class. Although it remains fairly lively and adaptable for regular driving, there's a slight sense of disappointment when comparing it. Another important distinction between the two engines is that the 1.5-liter option is equipped with a six-speed manual transmission, whereas the Powershift model features a seven-speed automatic transmission. The manual transmission has quick gear changes and optimal gear ratios, allowing you to fully utilize the distinctive engine. The automated transmission smoothly and rapidly changes gears, but manual gear changes can be made using the paddles on the steering wheel if preferred. No matter which engine you choose, the standout feature of the Puma ST is its handling. If you ease off the gas pedal while turning, the car will gradually rotate on its front wheels, helping you steer it accurately out of the corner. (Cheung, 2024)

hi joel hi hi! okay i will tell you about adam because i have the most coherent thoughts on him. although i can't guarantee coherence lol 😅. um i like to call adam columbo 2.0 because he reminds me of columbo. he's short, blind in one eye (is it common knowledge that peter falk wore a glass eye?), and his clothes are always in disarray. but one of my favorite things about columbo are these random anecdotes of dubious credibility that he just drops. "columbo's wife" is a character in her own right, if you believe she exists. if you don't, then columbo just lies easily and often to gain suspects' trust.
now, adam would never be a cop, but he does lie often to gain people's trust. and i think it's often in the form of anecdotes. he tells a lot of stories about growing up in [insert random town that he DIDN'T grow up in] or college stories (he didn't go to college). um i guess this says more about what i personally believe about columbo than anything.
here's some random facts about all my ocs too
adam: he drives exactly 5 miles over the speed limit at all times. unless it's snowing, then he drives exactly the speed limit. he's 5'6". the most expensive article of clothing he owns is cowboy boots. he drives a beat up ford ranger from the 90s. he can speak spanish and french semi fluently, but can barely read them.
willow: she can always tell when you're lying. she knits her own sweaters. she speaks french better than adam does. despite never living more than 100 miles from the ocean, she's never been to the beach. she speaks with a lisp.
river: he has three chipped teeth. he's a fairly competent guitar player and has played shows with his little brother's band. he wanted to study engineering in school. willow taught him to braid his hair.
