I've decided I want to use Aphrodisian instead of Salmacian, because the latter is controversial. However, I'm not a fan of the current options for an Aphrodisian flag. So I designed my own. But too many of them. So poll. Options, explanations, and inspirations below the cut.

The color choices are based on palettes I found on the Google, one based on the Moon, and the other called "The Sun Loved the Moon." These were selected because Aphroditus is associated with the Moon, but also Venus, the Morning Star. The eclipse symbol is included in variations #5-12 to indicate the simultaneous existence of differing genitals.

Mirror

Using a Png for a base of the mirror I adapted it to a circle and painted over the top using a textured pattern and continuing a paint over to complete the rest I then had a look at traditional ribbons got a png and also painted over the top and transformed it so it was thinner.

katana

Katana 3d model base and with a paint over the top putting a new inlay at the hilt of the sword by drawing over the blade.

Fan

Used a fan base but painted over darked to a browner colour faked drew some Japanese letters that glowed orange I also laid out blades but did a paint over all over to make it black and did orange overlay of designs to match the writing.

After talking to Leo I felt good about moving forward with this version of my setting. So I continued my paint-over, using copies the masked cracks to further the effect throughout the house, and photobashing in areas to ad detail and texture.

After a bit I decided to ad the doll into the composition to add some drama, and a bit of humor (I mean it is a silly idea for a tactical FPS if we're being honest here). I'm not sure if I'll keep this in as it's not necessarily reflective of what I'm imagining for the gameplay. I also adjusted the light on the neighboring house. Since I got the lighting from the blender render it should have been correct, but that house was sticking out. Maybe the paintover/photobashing darkened everything else.

I spent a little bit of time using gradient maps to figure out the mood/coloring to go for with this piece. I feel like what I've come up with so far is a bit to extreme (probably because I've been watching some old 70's/80's B-grade horror movies). But it's at least helping me figure out what not to do.

I also recently found a short tutorial demonstrating a technique for painting with gradient maps. So I watched that and spent some time playing around with the technique tonight.

I started out just experimenting by painting over a black and white version of one of my designs from last semester. Then moved on to making a quick doodle from scratch.

After spending some time with the technique I realized it could work great for creating the a effect of a strong warm light hitting skin. So I spent some time coming up with the right gradient, an tested it by painting a sphere. It seemed to work fairly well, so I'll be excited to try it in an actual painting, as well as find out what else this technique can be used for.
