in 2 verses it perfectly conveys what it’s like to live the same day all alone, again and again and again. for the rest of timberhearth, it makes no difference— they don’t even know that it’s happening. but for hatchling…

they’ll never get to have a new conversation with anyone. they’ll never make a new discovery with hornfels and hal, or find tephra in a new hiding spot. gossan will never give them any new advice, and slate will never mod their ship. tektite will always be right there examining the seed, and they’ll never call marl to remove it. they didn’t let gneiss teach them an instrument, and now they’ll never have the chance to learn, bc it’s the last day any of them will ever be there.

and that day just keeps on replaying, over and over and over again. they’re the only one who gets to know…

Just because I'm now starting to really like plasma from specifically tragic angle of 'motherfuckers who will never spit it out', how do you think Kai is coping right now that Jay has...Gone Rogue? Bonus: is he into the ponytail or does he want to burn it?

oh I think he’s losing his fucking mind . his 15 yr long crush has gone from his sweet caring creative excitable spontaneous jay to whatever the fuck is going on with rogue’s poor mental state . kai’s heart is probably hurting bro

to him it’s like when you find a hungry , grimy, gross looking stray kitten on your doorstep and you can’t help but take it inside to care for it but then you actually find out the kitten is fucking insane and smart and evil and you’ve just signed a contract with the devil

(realistically, he’s probably also really upset that not only is jay broken, but he remembers nothing. he’s forgotten all of their inside jokes, everything that they’ve done together … he’s a different person and i don’t think kai is ready to face that yet. i think he still tries to joke around, attempting to get jay to remember, and when it fails and rogue doesn’t register his humor he feels defeated)

also i think he’s got mixed feelings about the ponytail . jay with long hair? pretty . however he probably has split ends and whatnot because he hasn’t cut it in forever so kai is too busy freaking out about the health of jay’s hair to appreciate it
