“A Mexican standoff with the United States turned into a Mexican smack-down this month with the release of Mexico’s formal rebuttal to US efforts to overturn limits Mexico has ordered on the use of genetically modified (GM) corn and the weed killing chemical glyphosate.

In a 189-page report filed with a panel of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), Mexico laid out in stark terms why it has ordered that GM corn not be used for tortillas and dough that people eat and why it has ordered its farmers to stop using glyphosate.

“Mexico has legitimate concerns about the safety and innocuousness of genetically modified corn… and its indissoluble relationship with its technological package that includes glyphosate,” the government’s report states. Mexico cites the “use of dangerous pesticides” as a factor causing “serious health effects.”

There is “clear scientific evidence of the harmful effects of direct consumption of GM corn grain in corn flour, dough, tortilla and related products,” Mexico states. More evidence is needed, Mexico says, to determine “whether and to what extent, such risks are transmitted to food products further downstream…”

The moves are for the “purpose of contributing to food security and sovereignty” and “the health of Mexican men and women”, the Mexican government said when announcing the moves.

The US has asserted that Mexico is not basing its decision on science and is violating agreements under the USMCA trade pact. The battle has intensified over the last year and in its latest response, Mexico didn’t just reject the US arguments, but laid out in detail a wealth of scientific research that backs its concerns.”

First up, Starfleet decides it would be best to rub Bashir's life in the face of some genetically-enhanced folks who weren't lucky enough to slip under the radar in "Statistical Probabilities", and for their trouble they nearly get intel handed over to the Dominion! After that, Moogie's been kidnapped by Iggy Pop the Vorta (no, really) and Quark decides to band together with more of the Alpha Quadrant's favorite ultra-capitalists to get her back instead of calling the space cops in "The Magnificent Ferengi"!

Also this week: turns out DS9 also needs better security, walking props, and squill syrup!

Martian Humans were discovered on the planet Mars, contacted in the year 3990. These creatures are the genetically modified descendants of Humans, who found that it was impossible to gestate healthy offspring under the natural gravity of the planet. Without planetary gravity manipulation technology, their best bet for creating somewhat healthy descendants on the planet was through genetic engineering, selecting for genes that would give them denser muscle and bone tissue to keep them durable enough to perform hard labor, larger hearts to more effectively pump blood throughout their bodies, and shorter stature to curtail risk of malnutrition and allow them to function more efficiently in the small enclosed spaces of spaceships and Martian habitat bases. This full scale colonization of the desolate planet occurred in response to a “white identity crisis” experienced by many pale-skinned humans as a reaction to growing ethnic diversity across earth. After a disastrous “race war” movement manifested across the globe, white purity elites formed political groups focused on establishing a white homeland on Martian soil, mounting expeditions to the red planet where they waged war on and enslaved the prisoner population of preexisting Martian penal colonies, creating a caste system to enforce the institution. This produced the all white generation of genetically modified Martian offspring that took control of the planet, breeding in great numbers and using their inherited institution of slavery to great effect, expanding mining and plantation operations wider than ever before seen on the planet. Using the massive quantities of uranium formed in the planet’s crust from millennia of radiation bombardment, Martians built the largest nuclear stockpile ever seen in human history. The Martian ethnostate recognized itself as a more “highly evolved” form of “Terran” humanity, considering themselves “Homo sapiens martius” despite all scientific evidence pointing to the fact that they are not genetically distinct enough to be considered a subspecies. The severely limited genetic diversity of Martians led to a bottleneck effect, and eventually inbreeding. Assimilation into the Ecosystem did not go smoothly, put in a few words. There was debate whether or not to exterminate the entire Martian population due to the risk they posed of spreading slavery across the universe and the fact that standard Terran Humans had already joined the collective, but it was decided that this was too extreme and would set a dangerous precedent, so the assimilation process went as usual, ending with the Raid phase dissolving all Martian governmental bodies by force. The Martians were infuriated by this swift defeat but recognized the importance of preserving their species' existence on their homeland and didn't push further. Upon introduction to the Ecosystem, they were disgusted by its multicultural assortment of alien life living alongside one another and mostly kept to themselves, still adorned in their traditional military garb and confident in their slogan that “Father Mars Shall Rise Again”. For decades, several slave states established by Martians on Ecosystem worlds have been broken up, routinely putting the continued preservation of these people's core society into question.

Today I decided to share with you a drawing I made last year. That year I was going to write a book with my friend, NOTG. The story was about a romance between a human and an anthropomorphic being.

I don't remember if this character was supposed to be an alien or a being created in a laboratory, but I just know that he is a mix of a rabbit, cat and fox. I even made a drawing of this couple and I loved it so much.

The human was inspired by Ruby from Supernatural, while her boyfriend looks like Zahk, even though he was never inspired by him lol. For those who don't know, Zahk is a furry artist who makes really cute arts, where his fursona is a hybrid of a dragon and a fox.

However, unfortunately my friend couldn't create the story with me, because he didn't even have time to write his book, Between Stars. But the cool thing is that my character gave rise to a new species for his story.

Yes, NOTG asked me for help and suggestions for his book, so I helped him create this fictional species for his story. It's a shame I didn't create a story for this beautiful couple, they're definitely the cutest couple I've ever created. But who knows one day, right?

Hoje eu resolvi compartilhar com vocês um desenho que fiz ano passado. Naquele ano eu ia escrever um livro com o meu amigo, NOTG. A história era sobre um romance entre uma humana e um ser antropomórfico.

Eu não me lembro se esse personagem era pra ser um alienígena ou um ser criado em laboratório, mas só sei que ele é uma mistura de coelho, gato e raposa. Inclusive fiz um desenho desse casal e amei demais.

A humana havia sido inspirada na Ruby de Supernatural, enquanto o namorado dela se parece com o Zahk, mesmo que nunca tenha sido inspirado nele kkkkkkkkk. Pra quem não sabe, Zahk é um artista furry que faz artes muito fofinhas, onde o seu fursona é um híbrido de dragão e raposa.

Porém, infelizmente não deu pro meu amigo criar a história comigo, porque ele não tinha tempo nem pra escrever o livro dele, Between Stars. Mas o legal é que o meu personagem deu origem à uma nova espécie da história dele.

Sim, o NOTG me pediu ajuda e sugestões pro seu livro, então eu o ajudei na criação dessa espécie fictícia da história dele. É uma pena que não criei uma história pra esse lindo casal, com certeza é o casal mais fofo que já criei. Mas quem sabe um dia, né?

The other thing you should be upset about: crops modified to be pesticide resistant so they can dump a shitton of toxins into the environment especially RoundUp which is a suspected carcinogen and dangerous to agricultural workers as well as ecosystems. And the weeds will evolve immunity in a few years anyway.

Support beneficial GMOs, but also support organic farming and a ban on RoundUp/glyphosphate (already illegal in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany). Fuck Monsanto.
