Reinier de Ridder submits Gerald Meerschaert in the 3rd round!
Like i said, good ole middleweight grappling slop.
The issue with Gerald's plan to out box de Ridder is that all of his striking is based around the idea that his opponent will eventually be forced to grapple with him. So we got a lot of tie ups when he got too tired to stay mobile that allowed de Ridder to use his size to just kind of put him on the ground. RdR is a terrible striker, often trying to grab at GM3's wrist and turn his head completely away from him allowing GM3 to get off elbows and overhands. But when he goes on offense, he's got some ok tools. Elbows on the inside. A stiff if ugly jab. And a tall guy knee. Managed to just get really aggressive and drop Meerschaert at the end of the 1st to steal the round.
Great UFC debut for RdR. He's not a title contender but fights with Brendan Allen? Fluffy Hernandez? Those could be fun.

Joe Pyfer vs Gerald Meerschaert
2024 has been a "comeback to Earth" year for the middleweight division. Just a bunch of "that happened" fights across every UFC main card we have gotten this year.
Here's hoping that Joe Pyfer (12-2) can inject some excitement into the division. The up and coming middleweight has been gold so far. He's 3-0 in the UFC with solid wins and all of them coming by finish. He'll get a step up in competition when he faces off with Jack Hermansson (23-8) in the main event of UFC Fight Night 236 this Saturday (Feb 10).

The Viper's Grip featuring UFC fighter Gerald Meerschaert
The Middleweight ranks are a place where experience is often the best teacher. In today’s episode of Across The Pond, you will meet a veteran looking to use his snakelike savvy with deadly effect at UFC On ESPN 2 on March 30. A professional since March 2007 and representing Roufusport, Gerald Meerschaert owns a 28-10 record in 38 career bouts as a professional comprised of 20 submissions, six knockouts and two decisions. He has achieved Performance of the Night twice in his tenure with the UFC.
At Freestyle Combat Challenge 27, he defeated Shane Krutchen via TKO in the second round. Meerschaert submitted his next two opponents in Kenneth Allen and Will Pace. Then at FCC 33, he defeated Caleb Krull via unanimous decision. Meerschaert tapped out his next three opponents that included wins over Alex Carter and Mike Vaughn. At GCF Fair Warning he submitted Jacob Kuester via neck crank in the first round. Meerschaert also tapped out Morrison Lamb via guillotine choke in round one. He defeated his next five opponents that included victories over Ron Faircloth and Dallas O’ Malley. At Rouge Warrior Championships 3, Meerschaert submitted Eddie Larrea in the first round via guillotine choke. He defeated Jay Ellis via TKO in round one. Meerschaert defeated his next three foes that included wins over Nathan Gunn and George Lockhart. He tapped out Matt Lagou via arm triangle choke in the first round at KOTC Magnum Force. Meerschaert defeated his next three that included victories over Sidney Wheeler and Lucas Rota. In the headliner of RFA 45, he submitted Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series season one alumni Chase Waldon in round one via arm triangle choke.
In his debut outing with the UFC at UFN 102, Meerschaert tapped out Joe Gigliotti via anaconda choke in the first round. He tapped out Ryan Janes in round one via armbar in his second appearance with the UFC at UFN 105. At The Ultimate Fighter season 26 finale, Meerschaert defeated The Ultimate Fighter season 23 alumni Eric Spicely via TKO in the second round to earn his second Performance of the Night bonus. He submitted Poland’s Oskar Piechota via rear naked choke in round two at The Ultimate Fighter season 27 finale to secure his 20th submission victory as a professional. At UFC On ESPN 2 on March 30, he will face Kevin Holland in a middleweight contest. You can catch this fight as part of the prelim line up on ESPN. Good luck Gerald!
