How far would you go to save the one you love?

I had the ABSOLUTE pleasure of collaborating with the amazing, talented, insane @nothinggathers for the DBH Reverse Big Bang 2024 @dbh-bb. This is a project that's been marinating in my head for a while featuring an initially machine!Connor leaping through different universes to try and save Hank, and deviating over the course of his journey as he grows more desperate to save him, develops a sense of connection with his own people and identity, and — of course — falls in love. It's been months of blood, sweat, tears, and lots of screaming, and there will be several more of the same, because this monster of a collab is reaching well over 150k words (Atro, I love you).

And Kurogane picking up his sword (in his remaining hand), as HIS final piece of Syaoran. The sword that they went shopping for together in Outo. The sword that he trained Syaoran how to use. The sword with his iconic flame on the hilt.

Oh I'm BROKEN. Both of Syaoran's dads holding the piece of him that they shared one way or another. Kurogane taught Syaoran his swordplay, that central part of Kurogane's identity that means so much to him, and Fai's magic was used by Syaoran directly - the magic that has been THE defining feature of Fai's life, and this is the part of it that they BOTH used.

every day i wake up into a world where my country's vice president is the 50 year old man version of the little girl that says yEEEAAAHhh.. :/ in lilo and stitch.

So I found this glass bowl outside.. in the trash. I thought it was an oven-safe glass container, in which I could potentially make a casserole, or something equally delicious. It has this interesting flat rim that I haven't seen on glass containers before, and usually these have engraved some sort of logo or brand name on them, but I couldn't find anything like that on this one. Studying it carefully, I only found the letters '22' lightly inscribed on the rim. I compared it to my other oven-safe container, and they're about the same thickness.

Then my roommate came home and I showed it to her excitedly, and first thing to leave her mouth was 'oh it's the washing machine thing!' and I stared at her, then at the bowl. Then I went to the washing machine, and compared them.

It's almost a complete match. I can't believe this. The found one is a bit smaller, but there are smaller washing machines. The more I looked at it, the more I was sure that it is in fact, a piece of a washing machine. I really found a piece of washing machine outside in the trash?? The number 22 maybe referred to the size of it?

Now I'm pretty sure that it is a piece of a washing machine.. but the curiosity is killing me.. could you still make a casserole in it? I know not all glass containers are the same, and if you put not-oven safe glass in the oven, it could explode, and I do not want to clean glass out of my oven, or deal with the potential consequences. Is there anyone smart enough to know, can this be done? Is it just glass and it can be used in an oven?

If it's not fire-safe, I can still use it as a salad bowl, with added amusement that its original purpose was to enable me to look at the washing machine whirling the laundry around.

with them around, i got so accustomed to something interesting always going on. there are lots of newbies coming in, inspired and wanting to follow their lead. even now, i still hear their names discussed on the daily, regardless of where they are and what they're doing. do i really blend into the background that much? notice me too. shouldn't i aim higher? maybe it wasn't enough. is it really okay to fall into this routine and become a nobody without the others to boost me up? it was what was asked of me. am i really this useless? am i really this forgettable? i was there too, wasn't i? when i'm alone, do i even exist at all? maybe that was all i was capable of

this is why education and instilling a sense of curiosity in kids is important. a lot of these people simply didn't stop for a second to think about the world outside of what they see. or were told that's for other people. or were told to stop fantasising and get back to their work. or got a smack across the back of the head for talking about such silly things.

it's not to say these are wrong, but having a good generalist knowledge of the world stop 90% of woo and conspiracy theories from taking root.

I used to be a grader and an occasional substitute prof for an introductory astronomy lab. That means that the majority of the people in this lab are only taking it because it’s a requirement and about half of them think it’s an astrology class.

I was grading midterms and this one girl. She was so nice and I think she was a business major. Fuck. The question on the midterm was to draw a diagram of the solar system and this poor girl. This fucking girl had drawn a Mars-centric solar system. As in every planet and the sun were orbiting Mars. I now actually have a custom Cards Againsy Humanity card I got at a con that says “A Mars-centric solar system”

I had a boy argue with me that there was liquid water on the moon (this was around when they had found liquid water on Mars in ~2015) and he wouldn’t believe me that he likely meant Mars and not the moon. After I marked his answer to the relevant lab question wrong, he took it to the department head who had promptly laughed him out of the office.

And there was another boy who, during a lab in our observatory where we would look at certain things in the sky, asked where the sun was. At 10pm in November. After some questioning it was revealed that he thought the moon and the sun were the same thing.
