Ex would be Sylus because he scares me. It's not his fault and I'm well aware he wouldn't do anything to hurt me, unfortunately being that affectionate and respectful feels about as safe to me as dangling over boiling water.

ohhh... interesting. So you're actually breaking up over someone(Caleb). And yes, I agree. Sylus would be so hurt and heartbroken. He already thinks he's not right for you(game/lore-wise) so I can see this spiraling moment of despair and then it hits him, he would refuse to give up (in this case and with Caleb as the new situation).
