So this is less of a crafting update, more of a health update, but I just had my first solid week of not needing any Benadryl in months!!!!
Like, first time since before my doc advised going off of one of my meds and then it turned out that medication was, in fact, treating something. My max record for the last several months was three days without needing Benadryl in a row and I’ve more than doubled it!!! I still have a ways to go in getting my health back where it was (and getting to the point I can craft more regularly again) but I had that Benadryl realization today and I am so so happy to have evidence that I’m getting better
#the person behind the yarn#it was uh. kinda frustrating to be back on the meds that help me (hydrocortisone)#and not immediately get better. I kept telling myself it took time to get that sick it’ll take time to heal#and now I’m finally healing measurably!!!#love me some quantitative evidence since so much of my health issues are qualitative#I mean. besides heart rate. but even that’s getting better!#because it turns out that if I take my hydrocortisone and fludrocortisone AND take electrolytes#at the level I did before I was on any medications to help me retain salt#my heart rate can get down to the 70s!!!!#this entire time I thought I needed to supplement less with salt since I am theoretically retaining it better#but no! more salt = I feel better and the amount of salt didn’t go down much with meds#it just means that salt is more effective and also that I somehow maybe was not having enough salt pre-meds#but pre-meds to help me retain salt my daily goal for sodium was 10 grams#that’s SO MUCH SODIUM and it apparently wasn’t enough#I mean now it is. now I do get enough salt and I can tell the difference#but that was after the whole oops ER visit that informed me that no. I was not in fact getting enough electrolytes or fluids

Got this cookbook out from the library, it's a bunch of fancy recipes using. Grains. Like spelt and brown rice and amaranth and things I haven't heard of. This is the least fancy recipe and the one I had the ingredients for. I cut it in half because I'm not trying to use SIX STICKS of butter on a Wednesday. It's pretty good? Really filling. Tastes like butter and brown sugar and cinnamon, the partially oat flour biscuit has a nice texture. The biscuit isn't sweet but the filling and crumble is, which is a little odd. The recipe also makes a huge amount of crumble. If I made it again I'd add a little sugar to the biscuit dough and cut the crumble in half + cut the rounds smaller. There's a corn cake with corn custard recipe in here I kind of want to try. (All the fancy cakes in here reminded me of you @bimbotheosis)

hate shopping for american recipes. how am i supposed to know how to buy "2 cups of grated carrot"? carrots are not sold in cups of grated carrot theyre sold in CARROTS

#I'm sure the cups concept is very intuitive and helpful if you grew up with it but I'm cups to dl conversion googling for my life out here#I won't take the fahrenheit and celcius debate fahrenheit just seems straight up worse for the purpose in pretty much every way#but I can see how the idea of ratios rather than strict on the gram measurements could be useful#the sites that offer both dl and cups are the true heroes leave no home cook behind

You know what really annoys me? When you search up recipes online. Endless scrolling through each website only for the actual recipe to be at the bottom. There's always a huge essay on top about whatever, the grandma who wrote the recipe etc. I don't care, if you have to include it put it after the recipe. I guarantee you that no one reads it and if they do, they can scroll down a bit.
Also when you want to see how to make something from scratch and people respond with 'just buy it'. Maybe, if I want to make it from scratch, that means I can't 'just buy it'.
