Join sparc! for Mask decoration - Next Tuesday!

Join sparc! on Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 3 - 5pm for a Halloween Mask Decoration and collaborative painting event at the Grove Hall Library (in the Jazz Lounge).  Led by the sparc! MassArt student team, this artful event is open to all ages and stages! No experience needed!

This past week our theme was Atlantis. With a focus on stencil, underwater creatures, and rich colors we created a beautiful underwater world. People's personal canvases showcased beach scenes, underwater monsters, and beautiful sunsets.

Roxbury Sunflower Check-in

On August 30th, the Roxbury Sunflower Project team was back in the Grove Hall Branch of the Boston Public School to check in with the supporters and growers who initially came to Roxbury Sunflower event for Sunflower Kits. 

Sunflowers are blooming and sprouting on Grove Hall Branch’s flower beds!

During the Roxbury Sunflower Check-in participants were able to create floral headbands and visors as well as sunflower buttons.

Join sparc! for Collaborative Community Painting

Fall is here and so is sparc!’s Collaborative Community Painting Sessions at the Grove Hall Library! Join us this coming Tuesday from 3-5pm for artmaking, connection, and music. 

This past Tuesday we had a wonderful time painting with youth at the library with the theme of Fall: Winds of Change.  Come learn some new techniques with the sparc! Team. 

These events are for all ages and stages and we still have 5 sessions left, make sure to drop in to the Jazz lounge at the Grove Hall Library Tuesday afternoons until November 14th.

Holiday Art2Go + Scarf Delivery

Happy New Year! 🌟

Just before the holidays, sparc!'s Ekua and Isabelle visited the Grove Hall Library to stock the Giving Cupboard* with hand-knitted scarves. These cozy creations were crafted with care during sparc!'s intergenerational knitting workshops held in October and November.

We also delivered 200 Free Art2Go bags to the Grove Hall and Egleston Libraries! Each bag was packed with festive holiday art projects and supplies designed to spark creativity and bring joy to the season. 🎨✨

*The Grove Hall Library’s Giving Cupboard is a free community resource. All are welcome to contribute items or take what they need!

Mask Making Recap

🎃✨ Happy Halloween! 🎃✨

We had a fantastic group of all ages at sparc!’s Mask Making event earlier this month.

Attendees got creative, adding bedazzles, paint, feathers, and more to make their unique masks truly special!

Thank you to everyone who came out and to Grove Hall Library for providing the space.

2 More Knitting workshops!!

🧶✨ What a wonderful start to sparc!’s intergenerational knitting workshops! It was amazing to be in the Grove Hall community, knitting and crocheting scarves for the Giving Cupboard. Thank you to everyone who joined us for a cozy afternoon of crafting and connecting in community! 

Missed the first two? No worries! the sparc! team will be back every Tuesday through November 5th. Join us next time and help support the Grove Hall Library’s Giving Cupboard.

Knitting Workshops with sparc!

Tuesdays, Oct 15 - Nov 5  @  3:30 - 5:30 PM 

Grove Hall Public Library, 41 Geneva Ave, Dorchester

The sparc! the ArtMobile team will lead an intergenerational series of knitting workshops to make hats, scarves, and other items to donate to the Grove Hall Library's Giving Cupboard, a free cupboard outside the Grove Hall Library with resources and supplies.

The student leaders for this series of workshops are Maya Alho '26 (Communication Design + Ceramic minor), Lila Vair '26 (Animation + Creative Writing minor), Isabella Henao Lopez '25 (Fashion).

Roxbury Sunflower Project Launch

🌻 It's Official! The Roxbury Sunflower Project season has begun! 🌻

This past weekend, the sparc! team celebrated by helping distribute free sunflower seeds, seedlings, and info. They also led the traditional (and festive!) activities: Roxbury Sunflower Crowns and new this year: corsages!

Our Kid's Kits were a hit, packed with seeds, coloring pages, markers, butterfly/sunflower pens, journals, and stickers.

Special thanks to Speak for the Trees for joining us with stickers, journals, and brochures about their mission to plant and care for trees in Boston.

Thanks to everyone who made this day perfect in Roxbury! 🌻✨

Collaborative Painting Celebration

We need all the celebrating we can get these days - am I right? So when sparc!’s fall Community Collaborative Painting Sessions came to an end for the season we were eager to celebrate the creative energies and people who made these sessions so rich and joyous!  

As part of the event we showcased all the artwork from the past sessions, shared a meal, grooved to R&B tunes, and asked folks to submit ideas for titling each of the collaborative paintings. We also continued to paint together because we love painting with y'all!!

LAST DAY FOR COMMUNITY COLLABORATIVE PAINTING WITH SPARC!

LAST DAY OF COMMUNITY COLLABORATIVE PAINTING WITH SPARC! the ArtMobile at the Grove Hall Library TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 14 from 3:00pm - 5:00pm. Celebrate with us! SEE our art exhibition, share refreshments and be in community.

During last week's painting session we focused on abstraction! We used unconventional mark making, listened to soulful Jazz and had a limited color palette.

Join sparc on 11/7/23 for Collabrative Community Painting

Only 2 more sparc! Collaborative Community Painting Sessions left this fall! Join us @bplgrovehall Tuesday afternoons, 3-5pm for painting, community, good tunes and snacks! We’ll have a themed collaborative painting that we all work on together AND individual painting stations. Next week’s theme is “Driven to Abstraction.”

This past week, on Halloween, sparc! welcomed library-goers to paint and decorate a blank face mask. We loved seeing what characters people created with the masks!

Stencils, Text and Color during Collaborative Community Painting

Bold, Bright, and Beautiful! At this week’s Collaborative Painting Session we explored text, stencils, and color. 

The sparc! the ArtMobile team invited families, teens, and friends to create a text based painting with us!

Bright oranges, earthy pinks, and rich reds were some of the favorite colors on this particular day. 

Texture, color, and handprints seemed to be a main focus in people's personal pieces!

Join us next Tuesday from 3pm-5pm at the Grove Hall Library for our 3rd installment of Collaborative Community Painting with sparc! the ArtMobile! All are welcome!

Collaborative Community Painting Sessions - Fall Dates

We can’t wait for next Tuesday - Oct 10th! All are welcome to join sparc! the ArtMobile for our first in a series of Collaborative Community Painting Sessions at the Grove Hall Public Library!!

Tuesdays, from October 10 thru November 14th - 3:00 - 5:00 PM.

Folks of all ages and abilities are welcome to explore the intersections of art and community along with featured guest artists and refreshments! The finished collaborative paintings will be donated to local community organizations. There will also be a chance for folks to create paintings that they take home with them.
