#HYAW Day 1: Character Appreciation

Welcome to our third edition of the Hayden Young Appreciation Week! We started this way back in 2020, during the lockdown, and it's been a blast spreading our love for this amazing character ever since!!

Hayden is the heart and soul of Perfect Match - their tenacity, their unwavering love and their deep questions about life and identity make the story so much more interesting and nuanced.

For Day 1, we have two themes for you to try. One is of course Character Appreciation, where you can appreciate practically anything about Hayden!

There is also Vacation as a theme! We all know that PM as a story has its characters travelling around the world, either to get away from Eros or to plan their next move. Hayden, in particular, seems to thrive in different settings, exploring different cultures - even more so if their MC chooses the polyglot skill for them!

Any work is welcome – fics, art, edits, moodboards, interactive media, headcanons, meta, even screenshots of your favourite scenes! Our only requirements are that the works are original (nothing AI generated), and they center Hayden and present a positive depiction of them.

It is not necessary to put up your works only on the day of the theme – you can always put it up later. We will also be keeping a buffer week in case you’re not able to complete it during the week itself (till Oct 10th).

Character Playlist: Hayden Young

I realised this year that even though Hayden's was the first appreciation week I'd ever organised, I had never gotten around to creating my own playlist for them. And I've always had songs I associate with them...so I figured now would be the best time to compile them!!

Most of them deal with similar themes of self-discovery and love - both themes I find in abundance in Hayden's story. There are three foreign-language songs, for which I'll attach the translations - one Hindi, one French and one Japanese.

It's our third year of the Hayden Young Appreciation Week!! (or fourth, if you include our one-day HYAD celebration in 2022 😄)

Hayden Young will always have a special place in our hearts, because they were first character that we (hosts @lizzybeth1986 and @sazanes) ever ran an appreciation week for, back in 2020! Now 4 years later, we still experience the same love, passion and joy this character brings, with so many other players!!

Hayden's birthday is around the corner, and as usual, we hope to celebrate it in style! We hope you can join us.

We weren't able to do a full-fledged week last year, because of clashes with other AWs, but this year we're back in full force to celebrate this amazing character!! 🥳

In addition, we will be giving a bonus week for anyone who couldn't complete their works during the week but would still like to contribute. Our second theme is a word that is often associated with Perfect Match xD Indescribable!! We all know this is viewed as a peculiar characteristic of all Matches - that they struggle to process emotion from the abstract, thus making a lot of artwork difficult to decipher. This theme is a chance to explore what that could mean for a Hayden who is clearly unique in their ability to question and understand deep abstract concepts.

We're now on Day 2 of our Hayden Young Week, and 3 days away from their birthday. Today's theme focuses on the people close to Hayden.

Their Friendships...people who have stood by Hayden through thick and thin, and who are valued by them.

Their Relationships - all the wonderful ways Hayden loves their partners and gives their all to them.

The Family - You could include anything! Their relationship with Sloane's mom Kim, any future children they may have...even their found family!

Yesterday was filled with all the feels as we explored Hayden's relationships and bonds with both family and friends alike! Day 3 might be a little lighter and funnier, especially since one of our themes includes one of the cutest "wars" between Matches that we know...and another thing we know they love!!

Of course we're going to have one day dedicated to Pizza - the PM MC clearly didn't know what Pandora's Box they were opening up when they asked Hayden and Steve their opinions about pineapple on pizza! And it's a debate the Hayden stans have to this day 😂

Our other theme is the equally exciting Road Trip! Something Sloane's mom Kim regularly does, and something Hayden remembers about their own "mother". We are told at the finale that Hayden, Sloane and the MC plan to have their own road trips with Kim after the events of PM2 are over. We'd love to see what you all think a perfect road trip for Hayden would look like!

We're now down to the last two days of HYAW, and closer than ever to Hayden's birthday!!! We've absolutely loved all the entries we have got so far. We hope you enjoy the themes for Day 4 - we have some exciting ones coming up!

Our first one is of course Identity, something that is very important to Hayden. Hayden is by nature a very curious person, and constantly questions who they are and what their place in the world is. Many of these quests to figure out their selfhood are the highlights of Perfect Match and what makes this story so special.

HYAW 2020

Because Tumblr has made some links a bit less accessible and difficult to reach, we've needed to redo some of the masterlists. We also needed to ensure that content that had come from blogs that have since deactivated or that have changed names should be reflected accurately. Unfortunately with HYAW 2020, the post soon became impossible to edit once our mentions hit the 50-mark. Which means we need to make a whole new masterlist.

HYAW Masterlist 2020

When HYAW closed two years ago, I'd intended to put up the masterlist (lovingly compiled by me and my incredible co-hosts: @sazanes and @thecapturedafrique) soon afterwards. However, due to several health issues at the time, I wasn't able to complete the work on it. I'm sorry I wasn't able to do that on time.

I decided now would be a good time to go back and work on completing this, as I'm really proud of the content we got on this blog, and I'd really love to showcase it, later rather than never.

Welcome to our third edition of the Hayden Young Appreciation Week! We started this way back in 2020, during the lockdown, and it's been a blast spreading our love for this amazing character ever since!!

Hayden is the heart and soul of Perfect Match - their tenacity, their unwavering love and their deep questions about life and identity make the story so much more interesting and nuanced.

For Day 1, we have two themes for you to try. One is of course Character Appreciation, where you can appreciate practically anything about Hayden!

There is also Vacation as a theme! We all know that PM as a story has its characters travelling around the world, either to get away from Eros or to plan their next move. Hayden, in particular, seems to thrive in different settings, exploring different cultures - even more so if their MC chooses the polyglot skill for them!

Any work is welcome – fics, art, edits, moodboards, interactive media, headcanons, meta, even screenshots of your favourite scenes! Our only requirements are that the works are original (nothing AI generated), and they center Hayden and present a positive depiction of them.

It is not necessary to put up your works only on the day of the theme – you can always put it up later. We will also be keeping a buffer week in case you’re not able to complete it during the week itself (till Oct 10th).

Please be sure to do the following when tagging your posts for HYAW 2023:
