Hi again!

This is a continuation of the Dark Urge head-canon I played with in "She just hasn't been herself lately." Long story short, the Dark Urge is an entity known as The Killer who considers using others' bodies as a way to transcend the limitations of having only one flesh vessel. About ten years before this evening, he took a child for himself, and it's time for her first outing in Baldurian society! This story involves my Tav, Wren, the tiefling ranger/ bard. This evening takes place a few years before everyone's favorite alien ship crash, just a moment for two so- called weirdos. There is an Act 2 spoiler at the end, so avoid the epilogue if you don't want to know just yet!

What brushes do you use?

i am sorry for the later reply i was out cold. this is not gona be a satesfying reply though. i just use... one square shaped boy.

you can easely make this one in PS by opening a 500x500px file and you either fill it compleatly in with black, or make it a vary slightly wonky square. (don't think it matters but it gives it your own handtouch) once you have you square you go to 'Edit' > 'Define Brush Preset' and you get the square boy in your brushes lybrary. I am sorry I don't know how how to create your own brushes in other drawing softwares.

I usually use the brush size 8px, 10px or 15px. and this boy has never failed me once! i sometimes try to make myself some other brushes to get a quicker workflow. but then i have to readjust the sizing and angles or i don't like how the shape looks and... i just stick to this one brush and call it a day. i do change settings though! Switching on Transfere + Opacity around or below 50% i make fur.

Add scatter effect + colour dynamics: i can like make quck freckles texture or in some cases like sand grain.

(if i lessen the distance between forms and the count on how many get scattered texture also works for stars, water droplets, atmospheric dust)

For details, or jewlery i like to make a seperate layer, adding an effect to it to get a "Contour Lineart".

i know this is barly (if even) a tutorial. so if there are more questions i would love to awser them. though i use photoshp (still). and i am just barly scratching and begining to learn and get comfortable with Clip Studio Paint. I will have to save my square boy and move it there but maybe i finally learn to use more then just one brush for once! and by the next time someone asks me "what brushes i use" i have an easyer time explaining because i just have to point at the CSP brush ones.

done w five discovery episodes & these are some brief thoughts so far

my first and biggest thought is that i would like this show a lot better if it was not a star trek show. space shows about war are fine, and there are some scenes and concepts here i find genuinely intriguing - saru being bred to sense danger and death, michael as a mutineer trying to redeem herself, stamets injecting himself because his conscience could not live with what he was doing to the tardigrade, etcetc. however, where is our utopian future? the attitude that prisons are cruel and outdated? the federation would never force anyone into manual labor. they specifically prohibit planets who do that shit from joining their little gang. they wouldn't authorize, let alone ENCOURAGE, the capture of a potentially sentient species to be used as a navigational tool without ten miles of red tape. they don't even kill and eat cows for meat anymore, people on earth think that's barbaric, but this is fine? hello??? we haven't done any exploring. even on ent and ds9 we did exploring. i don't think we've been planetside once is dis

it's made doubly frustrating by all the pains they've taken to make small references to other trek shows - the list of famous starfleet captains, the old-school sound effects. but it's all just set dressing. there's no TREK in this.

i don't actually think michael did anything that bad. if aos kirk had done that exact same thing he'd get a handshake and a metal. hell, if ANY of the captains, even janeway, had done such a thing, they'd have wiggled out of longterm consequences somehow. spock beat the shit out of kirk one time and nobody cared, but michael does one little vulcan nerve pinch (which i'm not sure she should be able to do but w/e)

this klingon stuff is so dry. ten tons of prosthetic + having to deliver 95% of lines in a fake language makes it even drier. it was a bad redesign and the subtitles are hard to read especially when i get bored and start playing solitaire on my phone. i'm having trouble following some of it because the prosthetics make so many of them look so similar. which sucks, because it feels important

also, they ATE michelle yeoh? this is not the capacity in which i wanted cannibalism to be talked about in star trek

it is cool that they're doing a male rape survivor with a female rapist though and like played straight so far. you don't see that often, even though i certainly think tos kirk fit that bill

again, this would be a perfectly fine show if it was not set in the trek universe. and what's insane is it would take SO little work to file off the serial numbers. michael in particular seems like a fantastic character stuck in a bad show.

because of the OA, every time jason isaacs with his american accent does something problematic for the greater good and then makes his excuses about it, i want to kill him with hammers. this isn't his fault, except for how it kind of is. he's a good actor. too good. he gives me hives.

Knowing that the jokes and laughing "haha, wouldn't it be funny" bits from Season 1 and 2, and the slowly growing bond and shared screentime from Season 3, and the handtouch from that finale might actually mean something?

Do you remember what it felt like? Seeing something new happening in a story? The same steps, the obvious familiarity...but you couldn't tell if it was really happening, because it had never happened before?

We still didn't know, of course. None of us could have. There was no novel to spoil us this time. But you could see the path ahead without having to push aside branches or shine a light. It was in that scene that the ship went from "maybe" to "this is actually happening? I think this is Actually Happening!" (which is STILL debatable because it might have been the final minutes of the finale that did it). For the first time.

The scene had power. The show had power.

Look at this!! So the photo on the left is from TROS and the photo on the right is from TLJ. So everyone knows the hand touching scar on Rey’s arm, and what it represents. But in TLJ she covers up the scar with an armband. Could that mean she is covering up Kylo/Ben, or maybe even covering up her heartbreak after he refused to join the light side by covering up all reminders of him.
