Grizzly Adams was inspired by the fact that despite his "freakass feral survivalist" upbringing, he's entirely incapable of growing a wild-man level beard.

Scarred up like a fight dog or an old stag - the most immediately noticeable of these are on the left side of his face: a gouge through both lips, another in his eyebrow, and several scattered across his cheek. Callused hands reflecting firearm use, unarmed fighting, and physical labour, with some slight skewing to his little and ring fingers on, again, the left side.

𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐎𝐎𝐒 / 𝐏𝐈𝐄𝐑𝐂𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐒

Has three color tattoos, all got during his late-teenage years in the army and at least somewhat damaged by injuries sustained in service of the Foundation: a wolf’s head biting a human hand, on his left bicep, a bear’s head with fireweed on his right bicep, and an owl, wings open, across his chest. He’s also got stick and pokes of, on the inside of his left and right forearms, respectively: the constellation Orion, with special emphasis on Mintaka, the first star in the "belt" to rise and set, on the left, and on the right, Cassiopeia, the Little Dipper, and the Big Dipper, with the North Star emphasized between. Done by his dad when he was a kid to help him remember how to navigate by the stars (all of these constellations being useful landmarks). Pierced right ear. Never wears anything in it on duty.

Avoiding eye contact unless absolutely necessary. Stopping at the nearest bathhouse or sauna anywhere in the world there's one available after a shitty day on the job.

MTF Operative, primarily, in several MTFs, most notably Gamma-4, "Green Stags" and Beta-777, "Hecate's Spear"; Tactical Response Officer and Security Officer.

𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐓 𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐆𝐍𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓

MTF Xi-13, "Sequere Nos" - Platoon-strength rapid response unit, tasked with responding quickly to dangerous and/or anomalous situations where the threat has not yet been identified but military-grade force is deemed likely, including but not limited to large scale containment and security breaches.

𝐒𝐊𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐒 / 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐒

Marksmanship, combatives including knifework, tracking, and general survivalist skills, including field first aid, hunting, trapping, foraging, rock-climbing, swimming, horseback riding, and dog-mushing.

𝐁𝐈𝐎𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐏𝐇𝐘

[Dying Breed] was effectively recruited in the field by MTFC Anatoly Kuryakov, then in command of MTF Delta-14. The Task Force encountered [Dying Breed], then a Private First Class stationed in Fort Wainwright, Alaska, while in pursuit of SCP-121959-1; following an initial interrogation, MTFC Kuryakov employed him as a guide. Impressed by his skills and steadiness, Kuryakov not only neglected to administer any amnestic once SCP-121959-1 was secured, but returned to Site-31 with [Dying Breed] in tow, ready to apply. 

Enlisted at only nineteen, [Dying Breed] was cleared for fieldwork by twenty-one after rotations in Security, Parazoology, and Tactical Theology. The record and reputation he has established since is marked by contrasts. He’s exceptionally effective in achieving objectives; like his recruiter, he’s also known to achieve this by bending protocol and sidewinding around orders, and to justify his borderline insubordination without remorse. He has served the Foundation’s purpose to the utmost of his ability and at great personal cost, but actively refuses (and, arguably, sabotages) opportunities for more prestigious promotions. He’s intensely loyal to the few fellow operatives who earn his trust - such as [Elevator Music], with whom he has maintained close contact despite a brief marriage and briefer divorce - but largely keeps to himself, detached and impersonal. It is generally believed that [Dying Breed] is only more disciplined than decorated because of the enemies he’s made throughout his long, tumultuous career. Regular personnel interviews determined that this did not disturb him in the slightest, and that he intended to continue serving until such a point as he was deemed inarguably unfit to do so.

As such, his request for an extended leave of absence was a surprise, even considering the circumstances. The events involved in the Foundation’s encounter with SCP-192001-1, unclear as they remain, are detailed elsewhere. For the purposes of this file, we highlight the following aspects: the alleged violent breakdown of [Live Wire]’s cognitohazard resistance, the alleged friendly-fire wounding of Senior Researcher Tom Dalton, inconsistent eyewitness and medical reports of [Dying Breed]’s own injuries, and [Dying Breed]’s response to descriptions of [Live Wire]’s conduct. [Dying Breed] has never requested extended leave prior to this incident; however, he has also never lost a colleague as close as Senior Researcher Tom Dalton.

These resources may also be referenced for further information on the relationship, personal and working, of [Dying Breed] and [Elevator Music], who was married to Senior Researcher Dalton at the time of his death.)

Upon emerging from a medically induced coma administered by [Elevator Music], [Dying Breed] completed extended debriefing, a disciplinary hearing re: the unauthorized decommission of SCP-192001-1, and an application for leave, to begin immediately. All three were resolved to the satisfaction of the Foundation. His last known location, prior to his timely return for post-leave assessment, was Fairbanks International Airport, Alaska. Routine attempts to monitor his movements between 18/12/2022 and 24/01/2024 proved largely unsuccessful; his activities during this time remain of special interest, as do any medical reports, interpersonal complaints, and/or other assessments in relation to this operative. 

𝐖𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒

Old... Friends? Frenemies? Fuck-Yous? Foundation acquaintance. Guin's been on staff at the Foundation since he was nineteen, so, math, that's... twenty-six years. Any characters who've been around the place that long, especially if they were at all involved with MTFs Delta-14, Gamma-4 or Xi-13, could have run into him and that could've gone... however it did! Up for anything, here - positive, negative, long-term or one-time-only. How did they leave whatever it was they had going on, dynamic wise? How's it feel, to be face to face again on a new Mobile Task Force, and such a fraught one, at that? Stop. Stop It. Unlikely friend. Whoever this is, for one reason or another, they've decided they've got a bone to pick with the old dog. What that means is up to you - well-intentioned badgering, mutual friction that just won't quit, some hierarchical crap, anything that strikes your fancy! Whatever their reason or tactics, he'll weather it with that weird motherfucking zen of his, which could easily be mistaken for tolerance, fondness, dismissal, or something else it's probably not. But might be. Who knows? Maybe not even him. Don't ask. Team Spirit. Fellow antisocial bastard OR pain in the ass. Guin is, usually, a functional loner; he works with a team more than within one, and this tends to get stood for by superiors given the nature of his skills and usual role. But MTF Chi-00 isn't likely to leave him the same degree of license. Open to characters who are similarly not into that OR a total keener for the whole team bonding... thing. Hoo Hoo, Motherfucker. A fellow night owl, mutually putting up with something like company. Isn't this nice? Not really talking. In the near-total dark. Several yards apart. Fantastic. It'd be a real shame if somebody ruined this by saying some weird shit about how the last job went. Yeah, better not. The Unkickable Puppy. What am I saying - he'd never kick a dog. But this junior team member has, somehow, wound up in Guin's good books. Maybe he just likes the cut of their jib. Maybe they're actually an absolute goddamn liability in his eyes and he's sick of it, but their wet cat levels are so off the charts that he can't manage to come down too hard on them. Either way, they need a hand with those ropes. Regrettably, he might be that. Don't Feed the - Things. SCP sympathizer. It'd be easy to assume certain things about Guin's perspective on SCPs based on his job description and certain rumours, but - you know what they say about assuming. Nonetheless, he's also lost a hell of a lot to the damage an unsecured, uncontained anomaly can do. The tension here, between a sympathizer's well-meant, humane compassion and his hard-headed, pragmatic drive to protect what he can is going to result in some fantastic fires, no doubt!!

Seems like someone was disappointed that the school trip was to Italy and not to Greece. Because coming up, Howell Arboretum, the three acres on campus filled with rows of trees, vines, and blooming flowers, will be transformed with Doric columns and students in fancy dress chasing after rolling bottles of champagne through the grass. Calloway has decided to throw the first ever Greek gods theme masquerade. It’s expected to be an all-night, candlelit affair with free booze flowing out from bar tables staffed by miserable freshmen. There’s even been a band booked to provide the soundtrack for the evening, wearily taking requests from inebriated students. And of course, the dress code is Greek god costumes only and masks required. You’ll be turned away and shunned if you bring anything less than your best.

How long had he been at this for? It felt like hardly any time at all and also forever had passed since he returned to his desk after the trial. The spreadsheets went on for awhile though so judging the amount of time was impossible. As was judging anything he did there. Time just became blurred at some point. Hours upon hours of sorting company information with only a scant few hours of what could hardly be considered sleep and several cups of coffee to push him along.

But push along he did. The work wasn't going to get done itself and even if it meant spending what felt like an eternity to complete it complete it he would. What else could he do? He'd been doing this same task for what felt like forever and while he did often find himself waking at his desk nor could hardly remember a time when he wasn't there outside of the occasional little trial they needed volunteers for he just… He…

A deep huff left him as he ground his thoughts to a halt and ran a hand through his hair, pushing the long reddish strands out of his face as he rested his head against his hand and felt the scruff along his chin helping to pull him to reality. No. No he couldn't let himself think like that. It was monotonous and thankless work but that's all it was. Work. He was just working as hard as anyone else was. He just needed to get this spreadsheet done and then he'd just get some coffee. Take a moment to pull himself together. He'd had this job for years and he wasn't about to crack now.

Ugh… He could feel a headache coming on. Maybe… Maybe that break was in order now. He couldn't exactly focus on what was in front of him if pain was involved. Not that it was the first time he'd gotten one. Staring at a screen for several hours for what felt like days on end meant his head could get muddled easily. Though this time he couldn't take anything for it. Not with the experimental medicine most likely coursing through him.

According to that doctor the most he'd feel was fatigue and maybe some nausea so this likely wasn't from that. He wasn't about to risk what could happen if he interfered with it either. The medical department was extremely clear and strict. No taking any form of medication after a trial for about twenty four hours. As much as it was starting to hurt he was going to have to endure it. And maybe open a window. It was much stuffier than he'd thought in there and he could feel how clammy his hands were as he set the mouse aside after saving his progress and left a concerning amount of sweat behind. Had the air conditioner stopped working again? It had been awhile since they-

"Agh!"

He reflexively let out a noise as he went to stand and felt pain shoot down his spine, grasping the desk to prevent himself from stumbling as he sucked in air. What in the? Had he sat wrong? There had been times where he'd been sitting for too long or positioned himself the wrong way and felt the consequences when he went to get up. He could feel the ache in his back as he stood there now in fact and yet… This… This wasn't that kind of pain. Not just a dull ache but a sharp stab. What…?

It was getting warmer too. So warm. Warm enough that he was going to have to take his suit jacket off. Why was it so warm? It couldn't just be… the… What… What was that poking out of his dress shirt? It was hard to miss with the reddish tint it was and as he slowly reached a hand up to unbutton it the soft texture made a chill go down his spine as it became clear. Hair. There was hair coming out of his shirt. So much that it was pressing against it and threatening to break loose itself.

A shuddering breath left him as he felt along his chest and loosened his tie, the feeling of more hair there making it impossible not to panic. Was this some strange side effect? If so then how could this much have grown there in such a short time? How much more was there?! Was it just along his-

The sound of seams ripping made him tear his attention to his clothes, hastily removing his jacket and tugging his shirt open just in time to see it spreading up his arms in waves. This couldn't be happening. This was impossible! No kind of medicine should be able to make hair grow like this. Something was wrong. So wrong. He had to page someone now. He had to…!

"W-what is…?! No no no…"

In his haste to get to the pager he had turned to steady himself with the table and instead felt the wood indent under his fingers, his hands shaking as he caught sight of the cause and slowly lifted them in horror. His fingernails… They were… Were these… claws? His breath hitched as he backed into the wall and watched with wide lavender eyes as not only hair spread across the backs but his palms shifted to have what looked to be pads, the cracking sound it caused along with the return of that sharp pain making him double over.

He hardly had time to process it before it shifted back to where it had started, an agonized cry leaving him as something began tugging at his spine and sent him tumbling to the floor. All he could do was curl in on himself as it persisted and lay there trembling until the ripping of cloth filled the air and slowly something curled around his legs. Something soft and serpentine. He couldn't look. He wouldn't look. Help. He needed help.

"S-someone… Please… Help… Help m- AGH!"

He'd hardly crawled forward when there was a jolt of pain along his back, the sensation of something pressing up against the inside making his breathing rapidly increase. No no no… Had something else been in his food during testing earlier? Was it forcing this on him? Why was it forcing this on him? What was he even becoming? He could see it. The end of something fluffy shaking with the rest of his body and tightly curling around his side. This… This wasn't real. It couldn't be real!

A sob caught in his throat as it tore loose from both his shirt and his back, the soft sound of something fluttering filling the air before it settled around his shoulders like a blanket. An incredibly warm and plush blanket. Wings. He'd grown wings. And from the small part he could see a tail too. He was dreaming. He had to be dreaming. Please God let him be dreaming this. He couldn't… He just…

"N-no more… Please… Wake up wake up wake up! A-ah?!"

As he begged, pleaded, to be set free from this nightmare, to be at his desk like nothing had happened, a soft scared trill had escaped his throat. A nonhuman one. Almost like something an animal would make. His hand… or… paw… had instantly slapped over his mouth and it was all he could do not to scream. Why? Why was this happening? Why hadn't he questioned them more about this trial? It had been far more vague than usual so what had they done? What had they done to him?!

And then he felt it. Something pushing up against his hand seconds before that same pain shot along his head, a muffled noise leaving him before he clutched at his skull. It was as his bones were being rearranged without his consent and the tugging along his gums, followed by the horrid cracking as his face pushed forward and something long yet soft slipped through his fingers was enough to nearly overwhelm him. Too much. It was too much. His heart was racing too much and he could feel every beat in his ears. The very air was suffocating and there was a thick scent of cleaner filling it. The room was both too dark and too bright at the same time. Everything was pounding on him and he could feel things getting dimmer and dimmer.

And then it just… stopped. Just as suddenly as before the pain ebbed away and he was left gasping for breath, his head tucked against the soft fluff along his chest as he sobbed and trilled. A monster. He was nothing more than some beast now. He could just see that he had a snout now and feel his ears pressed against his head along with something else on top as he laid there. Why had he ever agreed to this? Agreed to being part of the medical trials? Sure it had sounded reasonable at the time as he had only had to come in when they were short people but it had slowly become more frequent. Too frequent. It was a miracle that nothing worse than this had happened before now. It had to be too many trials too soon. That had to be it. Why else would he have turned into this?

Could he even call for help now? What would they even be able to do for him? Would they even realize who he was? Or would they treat him like one of the animals in the lab? Dissect him? Test more on him? Oh God… He… He didn't want this to be real. Please God he didn't want-

"Huh…?"

A light. There was some kind of light spilling into the room. Had it become that late at night? Where was it even coming from? Looking around was still so overwhelming so the fact it was there at all was the most he could make out. That and how bright it was. How much it made him want to… go… towards it… Like he was compelled. Like some part of him had to go. He could already feel his body responding, shakily crawling forward despite the lingering pain. Not even halting as a loud crack followed by more agony shot down his legs and caused him to cry out. Instead pushing his shifting feet against the ground and springing himself forward until he could clasp what felt like a door handle before turning it and then-

"-ey! Can you hear me? Are you there?"

What…? Who? A soft groan left him as he became suddenly aware of both the hard surface under him and the concerned voice calling to him, struggling to open his eyes as his senses came into focus. He… He'd just been in the office… right? Had he collapsed in the hall? Had someone actually found him? Wait… Someone had found him. Someone had found him when he was…!

The horror of his situation flooded back as he sat up with a gasp that was quickly followed with a hiss of pain as the world spun around him, grasping at whatever he was laying on as he was gently but forcefully pushed back down by the one who had discovered him. Why weren't they panicking? Why weren't they…

"Whoa! Not so fast! Easy now… I don't know what happened but you look like you're in a lot of pain. Just stay there. I'll get you something that should help, okay?"

What… As his vision finally settled he was instantly aware of a few facts. He was outside and not in the office. There was a gentle wind blowing through the trees of what looked to be some forest and he was laying on some sort of boulder with a blanket draped over him.

And the person talking to him wasn't human.

It was in fact what looked to be some kind of moth. A moth the size of a toddler with the fuzziest and wildest green fluff he'd ever seen. A moth that was looking through a bag far too large for it. Like it was a person. In a sunhat. With a floral shirt. And glasses.

"Ah ha! There it is! I don't know how much it'll help but it should at least feel better. Just hold still. I'm gonna rub this on your back and- Uh… Are you okay?"

There it was again. That nasally voice. That mischievous fanged grin as it held up some sort of vial. Something that shouldn't be talking to him. Or approaching him like that. Why was it coming close?! What did it want? What even was it? Where was he? What… What was…?

And when had he started screaming?
