okay a long time ago i was thinking abt how various planes of existence w/in spn's cosmology have like a relative ranking in terms of how difficult they are to traverse based on what you are
(the thought had mostly come from the frustration w the non-fandom's reaction to cas's death scene in 15x18 because death is so relative on the show because so many places you go to when you die have become so easily escapable with like. the main characters' xp leveling over the seasons i guess. like cas going to the empty is not the same as a character dying on a show where you die when you die yk. anyways)
heaven/hell: the places that humans go to when they die (endpoint) and where angels/demons are born, where they live/work (intermediary location)
-> extra note on specific locations within those spaces, like torture chambers, the prison in heaven, the cage, other ppl's personal heavens, etc. those places are not easy to move through. it's like v specific rooms that you need specific assignment/allowance to, while like regular corridors are usually okay to move through.
purgatory: the place where monsters go to when they die (endpoint), where the leviathans were sent to, where eve was born, where the first monsters originated from (endpoint/but like in the beginning)
the empty: where angels/demons go to when they die (endpoint), where the shadow... is? the shadow IS the empty so that's redundant, but beings like death are able to travel there, and supposedly chuck has little access to it (? i dont remember if it was proven that the empty was lying abt that or not so correct me if im wrong lol)
death's library: humans i guess have access to it, but chuck couldn't read his own book? or something?
anyways to get back to the empty. does that mean there was only one empty. is the empty one big empty for all the universes OR does it have like sections like in an orange with thin membranes separating the different universes' tombs? how many castiels over the years of not rebelling have accumulated there?
imagining a post-15x18 fic where dean travels to the empty to save cas and it's like the river styx scene in hercules but all the spirits are just other castiels but dean knows which one he's reaching for
i love when spn writers come up w a fun way to raise the stakes and change how things work on the show w like v little to almost no consideration for how their new additions to the lore recontextualize previous assumptions because like the whole s13/s15 heaven/angels multiplicity thing implies still that there was only one chuck... and only one amara? so how many archangels were involved in putting her away? or is there an inflection/divergence point from where chuck split existence into multiple so that from there and on there were many archangels but before that there were only few four? how cognizant of all of this was metatron, or was he never privy to that? how privy was zachariah? were the end and the french mistake alternate timelines or simply pocket universes like the ones gabriel made for changing channels? how many gabriels ran away from home? all of them? did any stay? was there a lucifer that never fell? was there a cain that never raised his weapon? how long did every other castiel that listened to his orders even live?
!!!!!!!!! EX-FUCKING-ACTLYYYYYYYY
i literally have been thinking about this for the past hour!!! the first version of the post I made was literally just about dean in supernatural being the only one who ever even met cas/got to know him. but then i was like wellllll. that puts too much distance between parallel worlds and it would require me to utilise actual braincells to disentangle all that and I am having A Day™ and can't do it. so i changed it but YOU KNOW!!! EXACTLY!!! what does it mean that there is only one chuck but multiple lucifers??? are there multiple hells??? what about purgatory???
FASCINATING how the worldbuilding on supernatural is soooo stupid and so compelling at the same time I love thinking about it!!!

the male gaze distorts reality
started watching movies again (just don't like movies really) and one thing that surprised me was how the male gaze isn't just about staring at hot naked ladies, but how it distorts reality. the male gaze creates 'people' and 'situations' that simply don't exist.
the biggest example to me is the femme fatale. the devious woman using her sexuality as a weapon. whether the trope is a blonde bimbo bubblingly bouncing her boobs, or a sophisticated older brunette casually letting the strap fall off her shoulder and threatening to reveal her bust, they are different incarnations of the same concept. the women are knowingly using the sexual desire of men against them.
i watched a particularly egregious example where a group of women were sent to seduce a group of men, hanging off their shoulders, caressing their chests, with the promise of further sex if they came to another room. the true purpose was to humiliate them by getting them to disrobe in front of other people.
when i was a kid watching these scenes, i was convinced that this was a real thing women did - there were women out there who knowingly used their sexual appeal to get men to do things they otherwise wouldn't. it had to be such a recurrent trope for a reason, right? it even shows up in movies for children - remember the hot pink pegasus seducing hercules's pegasus?
youtube
but as an adult, i find myself confused watching these scenes. i've never seen anything like this happen. i've never met someone who says they do things like this. it's one thing to be flirty and dress in a sexually attractive way to get free drinks, but it's quite another to be so sexually forward to 'deceive' and 'trap' men. not to mention, it's... dangerous. if the man even believes he's being deceived, he can turn violent. it's a foolish move.
maybe the only real life example I can think of is honeypots. but honeypots are actual spies, trained by governments, and spies are selected to have less empathy than the average human being. do we really think that among untrained women there are so many seductresses with the skill of trained spies?
"what about sex workers/prostitutes?" while the honeypot spy is employed by a government agency, prostitutes are paid by the very people they are "seducing." prostitutes have to put on an act - they need to pretend to be the sexually active and perpetually horny woman men both want and fear. but most prostitutes are not like this; they are in it because they need money fast, not because they think fucking strange men for pay is a sexy and desirable career path (fun fact - read the diary of madam pompadour, the most famous courtesan and the embodiment of aristocratic seductress, and you will find she actually did not like having sex with the king and dreaded it. not even our real life courtesans can live up to our fantasies.)
the entire idea of a woman using her sexuality against men is simply a male fantasy - and the flipside is that it's a male anxiety, too.
men wish that women would approach them and find them desirable and initiate sexual intercourse with them, without the men having to do any of the work. there's nothing inherently wrong with fantasizing that a hot person finds you so special and hot that they want to have sex with you right away. men and women of all sexual orientations entertain these secret fantasies.
but then, there's the fear - "what if these hot women are actually only pretending to be interested in me, to get something from me? and i'm too horny to think straight and i actually give it to them?!" and that is the male anxiety, that for a moment, they actually end up losing the upper hand. despite the fact that such a situation is actually pretty rare in real life (I asked several male friends if they had personally or second-hand encountered such a situation in real life, and none could say they had), it is a common trope in fiction. it is especially lascivious in film, where the seduction before the fall can be portrayed in softcore porny ways.
"this is a foolish idea, everyone knows fiction and reality are separate." well, we know they are separate, but do you know which parts? if you don't already know the facts of the situation beforehand, how can you tell when fiction is lying to you and when it's drawing from reality? do you think the young, sexually inexperienced kids watching disney's hercules know that 'seductresses' aren't a common threat when we watch this scene? or will they learn and think "ok, a thing that happens in grownup life is that hot ladies seduce men, and you gotta watch out for them!" what basis does a child or even a teenager have to know this is false? especially when this is a common trope?
"women are sexually available and active - and deceitful" is a harmful trope. when you read about the ancient greeks stereotyping that women are lustful, they don't mean it in an "aww shucks, these girls just love having sex!" kinda way, they mean it in a "women are unfaithful and will use any means to get dick, including taking advantage of their hotness" way (this is why 'whore' is the ultimate insult for women). because if this trope were real, then it would be dangerous, wouldn't it? honeypot spies are dangerous for this reason. luckily for us, it is not real, but the male anxiety surrounding it continues. the male desire/anxiety around it informs porn tropes about 'punished sluts'. it informs incel tropes about the 'cock carousel'.
and this is what i mean when i say the male gaze distorts reality. it fabricates, out of whole cloth, a person that does not exist in any meaningful way - a woman who seduces men while demanding no emotional involvement, who is eager and willing at all times, who can turn the very desire for her existence against those men to get what she wants. she is not repulsed by or afraid of the men she pretends to be attracted to. before, we had to content ourselves with art and novels glorifying this false woman, but film allows her to exist in flesh and blood. cast a real woman, have her speak words and move her body in ways dictated by a man, and suddenly she appears much more real. grow up with enough of these, and even women writers can start to think these "seductresses" are real people. she can try to reclaim her and turn her into a badass boss babe, or she can condemn her as immoral and pathetic, but the deception is complete - the argument is no longer about whether this woman exists (she does not), but about whether she is justified in her ways. the female writer does not realize she was nursed on the male gaze for years, and it will take serious seeing with her own eyes to realize what is the real world and what is male fantasies and fears.

Jan de la Froey, Southern Dutch artist, 17th Century
Alcmene’s (Nausicaa’s) Vision, ca.1669/70, oil on canvas, 117.8x148 cm
Residenzgalerie Salzburg, Austria Inv. 280
The painting was purchased in 1964 by Charles Alphonse Dufresnoy (1611-1668) as "Alcmene’s Vision", but already listed in 1936 by Wilczek and in 1956 by Pigler as "Nausicaa’s Vision". Pirondini’s 1985 expertise attributes the work to Jean Boulanger (1606 Troyes –1660 Modena) and identifies the subject as "Nausicaa". As Juffinger (p 43) established by means of the preserved contract, Humprecht Jan Czernin commissioned Jan de la Froey to paint "Alcmene’s Vision". Thus the figure asleep in the bed would be Alcmene, mother of Heracles (Roman: Hercules) – not Nausicaa (daughter of Alcinous, King of Phaeacia), to whom Athene (Roman: Minerva) appears, and who then finds the shipwrecked Odysseus as she washes clothes on the shore, and takes him to her parents (Homer, Odyssey, Book 6). What if Cas and Dean are watching Dinsey's Hercules and Cas gets the idea to give up his grace so he could grow old with Dean
When Dean finds out about this, they get into an argument cos the emotionally constipated dumbass can't express his true feelings.
Cas is scared shitless by the idea of out living Dean
Dean is the same but his fears are lessened by the power that castiel's angelic grace gives him. So the thought of mortal Cas freaks him the fuck out.
Idk should I write a angst fic like this

Could you ask the cast of VGM to all write out a short description of their characters? I want to draw them :vD
lavender: heavyset, ponytail, wears a red-and-white tracksuit or biz cas clothes over her pressure suit thing. wears AR glasses which flip lives in.
flip: smoke and whatnot comin' out of the sphere with a gap in the equator. sometimes I like to imagine chains wrapped around the sphere but that ain't mandatory
Anna is tall, with straight long black hair she has bangs, has a very default face that is weirdly perfect, no agelines no blemishes, she is a light-skinned Latina woman.
L E is shorter than Anna for sure, mid-neck length purple hair that naturally fades into blue at the ends, and dresses almost exclusively in slacks + button ups/blazers. Oh and the cat ears. I forgot to mention the cat ears.
hercule: what if the monopoly guy was a blue mage and also served cunt
Marci: I guess kind of like an adult Marci from Peanuts lol. But with bitchier glasses, a severe bun and whatever your idea of a modern-day admin assistant who thinks her job is way more important than it is

King August II of Poland (1670-1733) on Horseback
Artist: Circle of Louis de Silvestre (French, 1675-1760)
Date: ca. 1728
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: Dresden State Art Collections, Dresden, Germany
Augustus II the Strong
Augustus II the Strong (12 May 1670 – 1 February 1733), was Elector of Saxony from 1694 as well as King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania from 1697 to 1706 and from 1709 until his death in 1733. He belonged to the Albertine branch of the House of Wettin.
Augustus' great physical strength earned him the nicknames "the Strong", "the Saxon Hercules" and "Iron-Hand". He liked to show that he lived up to his name by breaking horseshoes with his bare hands and engaging in fox tossing by holding the end of his sling with just one finger while two of the strongest men in his court held the other end. He is also notable for fathering a very large number of children.

Allegory of Wisdom and Strength
Artist: Paolo Veronese (Italian, 1528–1588)
Date: ca. 1565-1580
Medium: OIl on canvas
Collection: RISD Museum, Providence, Rhode Island, United States
Description
In the painting, the virtuosity of Divine Wisdom appears to triumph over the earthly desires of Hercules. She is bathed in light, and seems to be rising, while Hercules is moving downward, towards deeper shadow.
The genre of allegory contrasts with Veronese's well-known tableaus of historical and biblical scenes, such as the Marriage at Cana as well as with the less formal works of other Renaissance Venetian painters like Giorgione or Titian.

Hercules in the Garden of Hesperides
Artist: Ruppert Bunny (Australian, 1864-1947)
Date: ca. 1922
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, Australia
Description
In Greek mythology, Hercules' eleventh labor was to retrieve the golden apples from the Garden of the Hesperides, guarded by the nymphs Hesperides and the dragon Ladon. Hercules used his cunning to trick Atlas into obtaining the apples, who was then burdened with holding up the heavens. Other versions of the myth depict Hercules killing Ladon with his bow and arrow and taking the apples, or simply having the Hesperides give them to him.

Where are the SR 71’s today?
They are all on display in America with one exception. #962 is at Duxford, Great Britain. this SR-71 was the one that was the most frequently stationed in Great Britain It’s a permanent loan from the United States to Great Britain with our thanks.
Arizona
#17951 flew on March 5, 1965, and served as a test bird throughout its career. It is currently displayed at the Pima Air Museum, Tucson, AZ.
California
California is home to more SR-71 aircraft than any other state. It houses six of them, listed below:
•SR-71A #17955 - AFFTC Museum, Edwards AFB, CA.
•SR-71A #17960 - Castle Air Museum near Atwater, CA.
•SR-71A #17963 - Beale AFB, CA.
•SR-71A #17973 - Blackbird Airpark, Palmdale, CA.
•SR-71A #17975 - March Field Museum, March AFB, CA.
•SR-71A #17980 - NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center as #844.
Florida
In Florida, specifically at the USAF Armament Museum, Eglin AFB, FL, the SR-71A #61-7959, also known as the "Big Tail," is on display. This nickname dates to 1975, when it was chosen as the platform for a new series of sensors placed in an extension towards the rear of the aircraft . The last flight of this aircraft took place on October 29, 1976
Georgia
At the Museum of Aviation, Robins AFB, GA, the Blackbird SR-71A #17958 is on display. According to various records, on July 28, 1976, this example facilitated a human being (pilot captain Eldon W. Joersz and major RSO George T. Morgan Jr.) to reach the highest speed ever aboard an aircraft.
Kansas
SR-71A #17961 accumulated 1601 flight hours until February 2, 1977, the date of its last flight. It is currently on display between a Northrop T-38 Talon advanced trainer and a life-size replica of the Space Shuttle at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center, Hutchinson, KS
Louisiana
At the 8th Air Force Museum, Barksdale AFB, LA, the SR-71A #17967 is on display, one of two examples reactivated in 1995 for USAF service before the program was canceled in 1998. Over the years, this aircraft accumulated more than 2700 flight hours.
Texas
At the USAF History and Traditions Museum, Lackland AFB, TX, is SR-71A #17979, which was used as a reconnaissance aircraft during Operation Giant Reach in the Egyptian-Israeli war.
Michigan
Two trainer variants were built, denoted SR-71Bs. One crashed on approach to Beale AFB on January 11, 1968, while the other, SR-71B #17956, is displayed at the Kalamazoo Aviation History Museum in Kalamazoo, MI. This SR-71 has more flight hours than any other Blackbird, nearly 4000, and is believed to have been photographed more times than any other.
Nebraska
At the Strategic Air and Space Museum near Ashland, NE, SR-71A #17964 is on display. Its first flight took place in 1966, and the last in 1990, when it was delivered to Offutt AFB, NE, to be permanently exhibited
Ohio
The first operational ( Jerry O’Malley and Ed Payne) mission of an SR-71 was carried out by SR-71A #17976 before concluding its career with about 3000 flight hours. It is among the first SR-71s to be permanently exhibited and best preserved. It is displayed at the National Museum of the United States Air Force, Wright-Patterson AFB, OH.
Oregon
Below the right wing of Howard Hughes' H-4 Hercules at the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, OR, is the most complete and accurate SR-71, SR-71A #17971, which has accumulated over 3500 flight hours.
Utah
As mentioned, after January 11, 1968, when half of the SR-71 trainer fleet was lost due to the crash of #17957, a replacement trainer was built, designated SR-71C #17981. This aircraft is currently on display at the Hill Aerospace Museum, Hill AFB, UT. Irregular maintenance procedures and aftermarket construction caused constant yaw of the aircraft; therefore, the SR-71C was used on a limited basis between 1969-1976.
Virginia
The state of Virginia hosts two SR-71s:
•SR-71A #17968 is displayed at the Science Museum in Richmond, VA. 2. The #972 at Udvar-Hazy
Chantilly,
Linda Sheffield
