As long as they've known each other (and honestly, within the scope of BG3 it's not that long - but at least a few months) they talk with each other a lot in the evenings. They'll continue to do so, of course, through their lives, but after a busy day around Baulder's Gate, here they talk about whatever things cross their minds. Tav is telling Karlach about traveling in the East, or sailing North, or about the time she got her horn stuck in a censer for completely normal reasons (note: there are no normal reasons for this - she was being a dipshit with her buddies and said, and I quote "Hey see if you can screw this on my horn?" It screwed on - it did NOT want to screw off.)

(It's fine, Karlach will counter with the time she got her fist stuck in a weirdly-shaped flagon due to a stupid bar bet and THEN she wasn't allowed to just break it. She was fine - slept with it on there and it mercifully fell off by morning when the swelling went down. She was worried she'd have to go to work with it on and THAT would have been some explaining.)
