Worst of 2024 TV Shows #3: VTuber Legend (CRUNCHYROLL)

There are definitely things I don’t get, and it seems like as time goes on the old adege of becoming parents and not getting what kids are into rears its head.

For me, this manifested for 2024 into the industry known as VTubers. Other than Hatsune Miku, or the Crunchyroll Mascot who taught Japanese for novices I never got the point. We also had this year, An anime that sees the industry play out via a small agency with one of its players being a girl in a dress she unexpectedly wears all the time.

When she unexpectedly gets drunk checking out other’s content while unaware she was still streaming, fame, clout, sub count, and an unfathomable amount of Japanese exclusive alcoholic beverages goes through the roof.

There’s turning off your brain, and then there’s watching Awayuki look like a complete alcoholic raging online in unfathomable questions like “why doesn’t she change her clothes?”

Only reason this isn’t higher up is that fortunately there were 2 much worse shows and the dub voices actually sound great. But if this is someone’s entry into this industry, they’ll want out before they get to the clever endings each episode that utilizes the format.

And if this is my Kimmel moment where I get the ire of an industry based on something I don’t get, I will watch some videos to better myself.

On July 8 at 12:30 a.m., Tokyo MX will debut the animation, followed by KBS Kyoto, Sun TV, BS-NTV, and AT-X.

Finished VTuber Legend.

That was easily the most hilarious, unhinged and gay af anime this season and probably the second kinkiest yuri this year right behind Gushing Over Magical Girls.

So in other words: It completely understands the appeal of VTubers and any future VTuber anime will have to be this level of crazy if they actually want to be authentic to the experience.

Having watched a lot of VTubers (both corpo and indie) on and off from the English, Japanese and Indonesian scenes for several years now: you don't have to look far to find VTuber who are just as unhinged as the talent at LIVE-ON.

I think overall this is my favorite anime this season and I'm definitely going to pick up the LNs when I have some free time.

I’m by no means a vtuber fan, but this anime might make me one! This first episode was so good, I love the variety of shows this season, there’s something for everyone!

This first episode was irreverent, dirty and downright hilarious. It’s simple yet effective comedy that landed with me. Awayuki is cute as hell and her unfiltered language is exactly what I like. If we’re gonna be seeing her react to funny stuff and be over the top on a weekly basis, sign me up. The strozero gag is great too. The idea of her just sitting in her room getting drunk and talking shit is awesome. I’m a big fan of direct women and she’s just that.

“I’m gooning to your stream” 😭 no way gooning directly mentioned in anime holy shit. She’s just like me! Of course as soon as she starts just being herself and saying any and everything that comes to mind, the subs come. People want authenticity and relatability and she’s got that. It’s actually pretty meta that’s why I’m liking the show so far and that’s why her in universe persona is growing too. Sometimes it’s just nice to have someone who feels the same way as you!

Pretty funny that as her channel starts blowing up other vtubers wanna be closer now.. watch out for the snakes Awayuki!

Loved this first episode and can’t wait for more! Sundays are stacked!

Honestly, this whole anime is a meme factory, but this one I felt in my soul. It also took me 3 episodes to realise why I enjoy this absurd show so much - it's because the main character actually is the "dirty old man" in her soul, and it resonates. :)
