HATSHEPSUT'S MUMMY
HATSHEPSUT’S MUMMY
In 1903, Howard Carter discovered tomb KV60 in the Valley of the Kings which had inside two female mummies, one was Hatshepsut’s wet nurse and the other a mystery. The mystery mummy had long hair and was bald at the front. Her arms were arranged in the royal position. Carter didn’t seem interested in this mummy and left it behind.
In 2007, the mystery body (KV60A), was removed from the tomb by Dr. Zahi Hawass to have it tested. The mummy had a missing a tooth, which matched Hatshepsut’s molar which was discovered in the ‘canopic box’ (which had Hatshepsut’s royal seal on it). It was then concluded that this mummy was Hatshepsut.
DNA wasn’t used initially to prove that the tooth was matched with the mummy. However, in 2011, it was discovered that the tooth was from a lower jaw; however the molar had a missing tooth from the upper jaw, which cast doubt on the discovery.
The mummy’s died from benzopyrene carcinogenic skin lotion which could have led to bone cancer. The queen’s family were believed to have died from skin diseases which were believed to have been genetic. The mummy also had arthritis and bad teeth, which is possibly why the tooth was removed.
In Ancient Egypt, priests would remove mummies from their original tombs, due to thieves breaking into tombs to loot them. Where they move the royal bodies is often a mystery.

King Tut's facts
Although Tutankhamun ruled for only 10 years, he has a great reputation more than any other Egyptian Pharaoh. His father died when he was only seven, and he became a Pharaoh two years later when he married his sister. King Tut was buried in a tomb in the Valley of the Kings, at Thebes which was the traditional burial place for the kings before him and his tomb was discovered on November 4th, 1922 by the Egyptologist Howard Carter. Obvious damage to Tutankhamun’s chest and legs suggest an accident but others say that he has been murdered. Tutankhamun’s mummy lay within a nest of three golden coffins, which fitted snugly one inside another like a set of Russian dolls. Most importantly, King Tut is known with his curse that has been a field of study by many so don't hesitate in reading our astonishing info about it inside our website

💯 YEARS AGO TODAY… On Nov. 4, 1922, archaeologist Howard Carter and his team discovered the entrance to a tomb in the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, Egypt. Three weeks later, on Nov. 26, Carter smashed a hole into a stone wall in an underground hallway there. Paying our respects to King Tutankhamun on this very special day. ❤️ 100 years ago today Howard Carter discovered the entrance and opened the way. 100 years later we discovered ourselves as the very last people inside the tomb closing it out for the day. We had the tomb all to ourselves - and tut. West in Peace. 👍 Follow me for more! @Anyextee Tag someone you'd take to Egypt with you !
