References, nerdy details, and my Sophie/Howl murderhelion parallel thoughts under the cut.

Once again, I made an off the cuff joke and then felt compelled to make fanart about it.

But the more I thought about it the more the parallels jumped out at me. Come with me while I connect the two dots. I swear I'm connecting them.

- Character A is slightly awkward, self effacing, and prone to trying to sacrifice themselves for the sake of the people they care about. They're also way more powerful than they give themselves credit for.

- Character B is very powerful, acknowledged as such, and is kind of a petty asshole. But can also be incredibly charming when they choose to be.

- Character A has to strike out on their own, and ends up in B's domain. They are definitely scared of B, but they also plant their feet and declare they aren't going anywhere. Character B is kind of antagonized but also quite charmed by A, and allows them to stay, and agrees to help them with the problem that brought them to B's door.

- They both antagonize the fuck out of each other. As a love language.

- They accidentally kidnap a few people during the course of their adventures. These people also become part of their weird little family.

- Eventually they decide they never want to be apart from one another.

- Everyone around them is like damn... Y'all are not normal about each other.

- Everyone around them clocks that they care about each other way sooner than they themselves do.

MB was pretty straightforward to ghibli-fy, but figuring out how to represent Art here was a whole process. Initially it was a lot more abstract but I've decided I like the more Howl-ish design. The jacket is nonsense binary code, the shirt layer is the hexadecimal code for "Perihelion" (thank you partner for that suggestion) and then ART's body is this abstract outer space/void. Kind of like, layers of code and firewalls hiding ART's true complexity.

(once again I disclaim that I know fuck all about art but I have procreate and the audacity, and I'm having fun.)

A lil practice in perspective with this piece mostly, so here's Howl and Sophie, who I designed based 50/50 on their book and movie counterparts! I actually would love to revisit this piece and paring in the future, since the book is one of my all time favs

obsessed with the fact that howl movingcastle is, like, the ideal portal fantasy protagonist. he's a welsh rugby-playing grad student who enters a magical world where he discovers he's a wildly powerful wizard. there's an evil witch out to get him and the king needs his help and there's a curse catching up with him. he has a magical creature sidekick and an orphan apprentice and a mentor who gets killed by the evil witch halfway through and a love interest under a terrible curse. the story is BEGGING for him to be the main character. and he's just like. no <3.
