Columbo and the Knight (1984)

put me in the universe where Columbo ran through the 1980s and had a crossover episode with Knight Rider. I think they deserved it, and I am not just saying that because they're my two favorite Old Shows. @telebeast wrote a little fanfic blurb about it and I HAD to visualize it into a comic (which is also the longest comic I have finished thus far at five pages...), so writing credit goes to them.

emmet and ingo fucking love cuddles. Ingo likes pressure on his back and Emmet likes a hand on his head. they both have queen sized beds so if they decide they want to sleep in the same bed they just crawl in. sometimes they stay with elesa who has like a califorina king and they pile ontop of her. when ingo goes missing Emmet still stays the night at Elesa's house at least a few times a month. she also comes over every morning when he isn't staying with her to have breakfast because he got stressed about his routine without Ingo, and changed her sleep habits to accommodate him. when Emmie and Gogo get back, Elesa resists the urge to stay at their house the first night they're back, but they immediately go to her house the next day and sleep in her bed for a week straight.

Kuroken - I have specific opinions on Kuroken because I'm a fan of unrequited Kenhina in highschool. Don't get me wrong, I still like how most of the fandom portrays them, but I much prefer them getting together after the timeskip when everyone's settled into their new jobs. I also really like it queerplatonic, as much or even more than romantic.

Inushiba- Idk man they're just silly, no deeper reasoning. Funny guys doing funny things with a cute height difference

Kuroyaku/Levyaku - Honestly I like these two about equally, i think they're both shitpost-able and that's my top priority for a ship. My gf likes Levyaku so i lean towards them but i've seen some good Kuroyaku art too so i can be won over. I'm a firm believer that Kuroo and Yaku were each other's first kiss

Fukutoraken - I think Kenma being a serial third-wheel is infinitely funnier but i dont mind it, as long as fukutora aren't separated i'm chilling. Kenma getting dragged along despite not being part of the relationship is my ideal for them tho, also i think Kenma being Tora's unwilling wingman/the recipient of his sexuality crisis rambles is hillarious

I keep reading comments regarding actors or also sometimes characters where it's like "I don't ship it but this is so cute" and huh???? Friends are cute with each other??!? Like. All The Time??

I hate how much stuff is made to be exclusively for couples. So many moments of actors being funny or teasing or sweet or caring with each other is literally friendship. But somehow our view of how relationships are has been so warped that you can't say "they're cute" without also having to clarify that you don't ship it. And I think this is much more common online than it is in real life. It is so present in shows and movies that as soon as two characters have a sweet dynamic or good chemistry that they Must be in love.

It's actually so strange to me how many things in media that are usually just normal friendship behaviors are being immediately twisted into romantic love. Like maybe that's just me but I have so many friends that I could (regarding age and gender) have a crush on. And all of these people are Beautiful!! But I've never developed a crush on any of them. Because that's just not how I feel about them. It's so unrealistic to have a crush on every good looking person of the gender you are attracted to, that you meet.

And this is not even about hugs or holding hands or any other physical intimacy (which is also totally normal for friendships). This is about people, friends doing all that cutesy giggly adorable stuff that everyone does with their friends. Looking at somebody while they're talking, poking them for fun, leaning toward them when you're laughing, all of this is stuff that friends regularly do. And it's so normal. But so much media has so agressively portrayed these traits as purely romantic that it has warped our entire view on the relationships of people we watch interact online.

I think there's also that added issue of how men in media are often portrayed as only being cutesy and outwardly sweet with a romantic partner but not with their friends. And suddenly you have people everywhere ship two male actors because they... like sitting next to each other in interviews? Because they try to make each other laugh? Because they are interested in listening to what the other is saying? Because they smile at each other??? Are we okay? How is this not the most normal human behavior to people? This is seriously tripping me up because I also just recently really noticed it. But our online perception of relationships is So Far Off from real life. And we don't even notice.

Anyways tldr is: you can find actors doing cutesy stuff with each other cute without having to worry about it being interpreted as you shipping them. Friends do cute stuff all the time. They're not in love, they're being friends. And those cute moments are very, very normal friendship behaviors

so with fresh eyes we got to prophecy girl on our watch, and for some reason it's only now occurring to me how weird that last episode is when it comes to xander vs angel

obviously for the majority of it, xander is just the best friend. he's turned down, and it hurts, and he's bitter, but he's never shown as anything other than buffy's friend. and then she goes off the face the master alone. and then he's refusing to let her go alone, off to find her, having to convince angel (her ACTUAL love interest) into even helping him. and when they DO find her, xander is shown as the distraught lover. shots hold on him and his reaction to her death. not only that, but he's the one to take action and actually try and bring her back, to save her even though he's gotten the death call. he's pleading with her to come on as he tries to resuscitate her. and his desperation, his pleads and his efforts, they work. she wakes up with a gasp and coughs back to life. in the sort of way you usually see a strong love save the person they care about like that in media

when it comes to angel in this episode, he's so... when buffy finds out about the prophecy, he just keeps trying to relate it back to himself (and I understand WHY he's doing that, or at least I think I do, but it does feel off when she's clearly breaking down over this. she needs his support, not his sympathies). when he finds out she's actually gone to face the master, he snarks at xander, mocks him for loving her and trying to do something about it. it's only when xander asks him back aren't you? like it's a ridiculous question does angel decide to go help the girl he's supposedly in love with. and he is clearly horrified when he finds buffy lying face down in the water, and he's not okay that she's dead, but he's also focused on surprisingly little despite the fact he's constantly teased as buffy's big crush. and it's xander who has the big moment and saves the hero he's in love with, not angel

I truly could just be reading too much into it, but I feel like this was all played very oddly if they wanted us to be rooting for angel as her love interest when we're just repeatedly shown why xander WOULD be better in this episode...
