I was playing Oregon trail to teach my sister about the game and as an example we played the cassettes

For those who don't know the game, it's this little game where a band of 5 travel from somewhere east to Oregon, and along the way if u don't ration, if u push them too hard, or u just got bad luck they die. This can range anywhere from broken limbs to every disease from the time period. It will periodically give you updates on anyone of their status. The game works no news is good news essentially

Anywayyy Soundwave was our leader bc duh, then his 4 others were Ravage, Laserbeak, Rumble and Frenzy.

Y'all Frenzy drowned crossing the first river, he just up and died. And took almost all our bullets with him the bastard. Literally left me with 8. 8! What the hell do I do with 8 bullets?!

Really funny really sad like right after it said Ravage had exhaustion, poor kitty got depressed Frenzy died. Also Laserbeak broke a limb... somehow

Rumble died later after contracting cholera like twice in a row, so that was sad

Soundwave keeps breaking the damn wheel like bro I only bought two what do u mean u broke it trying to fix it... AGAIN Why did you break the wheel twice

(Tf g1)What if the seekers didn’t know that starscream was the Prince of vos,like they thought all the royal family got killed, but it turns out starscream just ran away to do science, how would they react now knowing that their Prince is alive? How would the rest of the cons and bots react?

Oooh this is interesting.

I see if Starscream is wanting to hide the fact that he is royalty, then he wanted to earn his role based off of merit. To prove to everyone that he could do anything without his fancy titles.

Though if the secret is exposed, I see him suffering from the rumor mill. Some cons doubting that he ever got to second in command off of achievement and intelligence alone.

I see some seekers becoming more protective over Starscream. Thundercracker would hover more, try to diffuse situations between Megatron and Starscream when things get too heated. Skywarp will tease Starscream more, in a loving way. He will also use the power of being trined to the crown prince for pranks and getting out of boring duties.

Megatron does not care in the slightest.

Soundwave cares, knowing if Megatron goes too far one day then their airforce may turn on them. Helps TC in diffusing situations.

The Autobots see this as a tactical advantage. If they can get Starscream on their side, then they may get seekers to switch sides and end the war.

Skyfire is pretending that he didn’t know, but he was the only mech Starscream told about being the prince of Vos. (He would take this secret to his grave, knowing Starscream’s feelings about it.)

Watching G1 Transformers: "Roll for It"

OK Starscream is in charge now! (he finds a way to make "transistors' sound sexy somehow. Why do I always have a crush on one of the villains dammit.)

Animation in this episode is kind of awkward. Guess they got a bit of a budget cut.

It is hilarious how little respect Starscream gets from like anyone. Megs is seriously like "I gotta get back fast before he fucks us over too much".

Megs really does have legs that literally go for miles doesn't he.

A bunch of competing forces fighting over limited energy resources in ways that destroy their planet. Why does this feel uncomfortably familiar.

You know I think I have a small crush on cassette boy too. Can't really explain why since he has no face, I think its his big collection of pet kitty bird and buddies in his chest. That makes 3 villains in this franchise I'm crushing on and only one hero (OP).

Soundwave has effing telepathy?! (Oh right I remember that from Tf:One). I've definitely seen lots of fandom jokes about all the horrible things he must overhear by accident.

Wow Megs that's your ultimate weapon? Being a gun that shoots slightly bigger blasts than you already do? You got seriously jipped on the Ultimate Power here.

New human sidekick here, who gets to help beat the cons. I feel like I'm probably going to spend a lot of time complaining about the annoying fanfic-y ness whenever the human sidekicks get to inexplicably pull this off in a TF thing.

Anyway this ended up being mostly an excuse to thirst over all the 'Cons, not a ton of plot stuff happened in this ep. First one that was just kind of OK.

Excuse the rambling but I got back into the tf Brandon earlier this year and, honestly, it’s kinda funny seeing so many of my favourite internet stars revealing that, yea, they are also transformers fans and, yes, the robots are attractive.

I think you’re the third since the TF one movie came out? Anyway-

One of the reasons I love TFP Soundwave is that, even among cybertronians he’s strange. An outlier. I know you aren’t familiar with the comics but Outlier is also a term for cybertronians who have an ability. Basically, Soundwave can read minds. Even more interesting is that Shockwave (before the whole Empurata) was protecting and learning about outliers. I find both of their characters absaloutly fascinating.

I’m writing my own fic for Megs and Sounders (prewar so BUFF GLADIATORS BABY) and I’m kinda sewing together this quilt made up of so many different continuities.

Soundwave in himself is one of the most powerful Decepticons. He is the con that gets the job done, fixes mistakes and scares the crap out of everyone.

Also, cannon fun fact, his favorite animal is elephants. Absaloutly adores them.

“Soundwave is one of the most powerful Decepticons” is another thing that makes me blush about him hfjhg… he is. SO competent among the Decepticons, I read comments saying if Soundwave isn’t in the group they kinda fumble around.

Another thing about Soundwave I love in TFP if someone else is on the job, for me it’s 50-50 whether the Autobots or Decepticons win, but if Soundwave’s there I go “oh no. The Decepticons are going to get the Thing™”

This is a comic based off my tf Cyberverse x tf Animated crossover!! Deadend meets Soundwave! And who to say a family isn’t a kid you found in the sewers and the weird situationship you have with your roommate who you’ve tried to kill! ^-^

Deadend : (Huh, underground tunnels. Big too, with how small are why need tunnels so big?)

Deadend : (Not complaining tho. Can get around the city without problems. Already mapping out this place.)

Deadend : (What's with the flashing light?)

Deadend : A-a cassette?

*Soundwave flashes the Deception symbol*

Deadend : Another con! And here I thought there was only four.

Deadend : Guess you can't speak the way you are.

Deadend : I'm also assuming you can't transform. Is there a manually way to make you transform?

Soundwave : *YES*

Deadend : At least you can still communicate.

Deadend : Don't worry little cassette, I'll get you up and forming. Just gotta get… to the base.

Deadend : Just gotta get out the tunnels.

Deadend : I didn't really think this out.

Deadend : Guess I should find your joints. But got to be careful to not break you.

And at the time it was the two of us. Soooo we chose to work together to stay alive! So this base is ours, which means if you’re going to stick around than expect me around.

Soundwave : Question : Why still work together if both Autobots and Decepticons are now on this planet?

Deadend : This is when a interject.

I've met the other cons but.. They were too annoying, and I couldn't really trust them.

Soundwave : What of Megatron? Deadend does not trust Megatron.

Deadend : Wow, a loyal com aren't you? Guess that you owe one to Megatron.

Soundwave : Of course, I, Soundwave, is the creation of the Lord Megatron!

Deadend & Hot Rod : …

Hot Rod : Megatron. He created you?

Soundwave : Correct.

Deadend : Did he even know you were is the tunnels?

Hot Rod : You found him where?

Soundwave : … Megatron did not know…

Deadend : Why were you even in those tunnels?

Soundwave : I was left there because of AUTOBOTS!

Hot Rod : Okay, okay I get it. Your anger to Autobots is understandable!

But I promise that I won't let a single Autobot hurt you again.

Deadend : Wow a promise from Hot Rod.

You really don't want him to hate you.

Deadend : But look kid you can go back to your creator. All I ask is that you don't speak to our wear abouts.

Deadend : And if anything happens… I guess you can come back. Considering that you were left behind in the tunnels I have a feeling that your “creator” wasn't really searching for you.

Soundwave : Soundwave appreciates the offer but will not be returning. Soundwave is sure.

Deadend : Yeah, sure. I haven't even met Megatron but the other cons don't seem to be looking for anyone.

Hot Rod : How old even are you?

Soundwave : …

Deadend : That's actually a good question.

Soundwave : … Soundwave is… What is the date today?

Hot Rod : Umm, let's seee it's *date of arrival of Ultra Magnus*

Soundwave : Soundwave is 6 months old.

Deadend & Hot Rod : What ?¡

Hot Rod : Yeah, I don't think Megs a good caretaker.

Soundwave : Autobot does not know what he's talking about.

No matter. Soundwave will take leave. Soundwave will likely not return. Grateful for help but now this is goodbye.

Hot Rod : I don't think I could talk about that after what just happened. I need you to explain.

Soundwave : What is Autobot doing?

Soundwave : Soundwave thought all was going well but I overheard that I was underwhelming. That if I was the perfect creation that I would have come back months ago.

Soundwave even failed on taking down the Autobots. I failed my creator.

Hot Rod : Well, isn't he the leader of the Decepticons.so he'll have high expectations. And you've only been alive for a few months,you aren't experienced in a lot of things.

Soundwave : … Autobot explanation is logical. But otherwise I've failed my creator.

Hot Rod : Well- *sigh* I can't change your mind. But what are you doing walking around the streets?

Soundwave : Soundwave has thought over Deadend offer.

Hot Rod : Oh really! So you coming over to the warehouse?

Soundwave : … Yes. I am curious over you two.

Hot Rod : Curious over us? How come?

Soundwave : … I asked Megatron if there are other Decepticons on Earth.

Hot Rod : Oh? And what did the big guy say?

HotRod : Ooooh! I see what's going on! You want to get your hands on our shard to get on the big guy's good side!

Hot Rod : Chill, but sorry to disappoint but we're not giving up the shard.

Do you know the human child birthday?

This is the longest comic ToT 5 pages long! But not long after I thought of my tfcv & tfa crossover and remembered Soundwave existed in tfa as a wee small lad I immediately explored. And I know there is an amazing creative person (crispy-art-on-fire go see their artwork it literally makes me insane ToT and read their Shockdad fic) on this app that has made Soundwave get adopted but that person used Shockwave in the tfa universe while my Soundwave parents aren't even from his universe. The threes dynamic has been running all around my minddd :(((Also!! I have not started on season 3 so idk if they collected ALL the shards but the all-spark like shattered into a bunch of fragments so I don’t doubt there’ll be some just laying around.

I like to think that as Soundwave spends more time around the two (mostly Deadend because he isn’t out hanging with the other cons) he warms up to the two of them and doesn’t really want to go back to the cave. There’s like so much I wanted to add but felt like too much ToT Like how Deadend explains the “underground tunnels” and Hot Rod being disgusted that he found Soundwave in the sewers. Also Hot Rod did not meet Ultra Maguns, Sentinel, or Jazz he just came over and Bumblebee told him about them and then he just dipped, he wanted from a far just to see how they look. The repair crew did mention Hot Rod as “the out of date explorer”. Hot Rod would totally nickname Soundwave “Boombox” after finding out what he was made for (or disguised as) and Soundwave slowly getting around to it.

I had the best fucking day ever fuck yeah. Met transformers cosplayers at a con and hung out with them all day and we are friends now. I'm living my BEST life.

Met two friendly cats that both said hi before I even got to the con. You know it's gonna be a good day. I saw the exact Bumblebee car from the bay movies on the way too, just didn't get a picture!

I arrive and the spot next to us is filled with transformers merch. I did not expect to meet tf fans. I have never met a tf fan irl. I left all my tf stuff at home ffs. But i went over and pretty much went "hey that's my special interest can we be best friends" and they were DOWN! Immediately let me sit with them and I stayed there all day.

Ratchet gave me a shot of synth-en. They also gave me a capri sun and played transformers uno with me. Me and Soundwave had matching socks.

AND we met Prowl too. He was just parked there. Husband spotted!

Bumblebee briefly landed on Optimus Prime for a break. He also took breaks with Ratchet.

And one of them had a little polaroid printer and printed me a picture of Prowl for my wallet!! art credit

There's more too. So much more. God I had such a good fucking day. I wish I could spam all the pictures but I don't want to blast their faces. But I introduced myself to everyone by showing them my little Prowl figure and going "this is my beloved husband, we're married, look at my ring!" and not only were they cool with it, they cheered for us! Someone drew Prowl as a cat for me. I love these people. They even got his chin right.

When I was in college I had a class on cinema and my brain decided it'd be my new hyperfixation. Now that'd be fun and dandy except I got a little too into it and all I can see is patterns, archetypes & trope.

Like there is maybe 10 movies/TV shows that I didn't see the plot twist coming from a mile away. My stupid brain pick up on the most minuscule details and unravel the whole plot in a second. Which sucks sometimes.

Enters TFES.

It's great but there's a few sentences/frames that drive me insane.

When they throw the Cons in jail after episode 1, the rest of the Decepticons must know about Mandroid, they'e so close in there and in later episode it's shown they can chit-chat easily

Megatron is nice now and that's it?!?!?? He hunts & imprisons Decepticons and he's free and it's fine?!?!? AND HE STILL WEARS THE DEECPTICON BRAND?!?!?!

Speaking of cells, I knew G.H.O.S.T. was iffy the *Second* they showed the empty cells. THERE'S NOTHING IN THERE NOT EVEN A BENCH OR SOMETHING WTF?!?!

Bee casually mentioning that Rumble exploded because Soundwave was low on energon.

Swindle saying they should wait for the 'plan' instead of breaking out after Hashtag Oops

*inhale* THEN!!! Then there's the deleted scene (The confrontation between Megatron & Shockwave + Soundwave & Starscream freeing Shockwave) THEN!!! Then there's the mentions in the official guide that were never explored/explained

I said fuck it and wrote down all the things that bothered me, asked my pal @shotimus what other things she thought were weird/missing/not explained [Shots is the TF expert, I'm still a noob] and I threw that all together in a blender. Took my favourite parts of multiple continuity (IDW, Aligned/Prime, Shatter Glass, G1 & Earthspark) and made a 6k OUTLINE of the fic I wanted to write.

The one (1) thing I was doubting the most about the plot of the fic, is Starscream is older than Megs & OP in my AU. I saw a comment on Reddit once that blew my mind (goes like this: If we’re sticking pretty closely to G1-esque Starscream, it would be pretty easy to show some more of his motivations for being so conniving. 

Just show some glimpses of the life he imagines he should have and why he is so convinced he should have it, and there could be many specific ways to go about that. All you’d have to do is show why he’s like this—you wouldn’t have to get the audience to think he’s in the right or being reasonable, and it would be interesting.) Took that and ran with it. This post reassured me I wasn't too insane for making SS older

I can't find that one post that was going around about making a tf series without Bumblebee, Optimus, or Megatron but I think it could be an easy thing to do. Maybe it's cause the niche tf continuities have such a grip on me that I often forget Bee has a main character problem to begin with but there's so many characters that are considered "Japan only" or comic only that we have an entire cast and then some of characters that a lot of people have never heard about.

Anyway, my idea for a show without using those three involves also getting rid of a lot of the "main" characters too like Soundwave, Prowl, Arcee, Grimlock, pretty much anyone easily recognizable to people who only watch American tf shows/movies.

Cast: Autobots

Yellow Splendid Convoy (or just Yellow Convoy, Splendid Convoy, Splendid, or SC) is fresh out of training and ready to make her mark on Autobot history by protecting peace throughout the galaxy. Unfortunately her crew's ship crashes and they get stranded on Earth, a planet of many autobots learn about from history of the war. She is very kind and courageous and tries to live up to the legend of the Primes before her time, which can be pretty stressful at times.

Nautica is the ship's tech specialist and scientist. She's often working on a new invention or found doing maintenance on the ship. She has a natural curiosity for everything around her and can often help brighten her teammate's day by trying to help them look on the bright side. She does struggle a bit with self confidence in areas that do not pertain to science though, and has trouble reading social cues.

Ambulon is the ship's old and somewhat grumpy medic. He used to be a Decepticon but defected mid war after watching the atrocious his fellow cons were ok with committing on civilians. He and Nautica have what Earthlings would call a sibling like relationship as the two are close, but she often teases him to his dismay. Being a veteran medic from the war his teammates hold a lot of respect for him and Splendid likes to hear him talk about the days of old.

Lander is the ship's sharp shooter and self identified "ladies man and mans man". He often flirts with people of all genders no matter where they go. He even flirts with sapient organic races, which some older set-in-their-ways bots might consider scandalous. Despite his carefree attitude and jokes he's quite the warrior! He's got amazing blaster skills and can hit a mosquitobot from a mile away! Ambulon finds him obnoxious most of the time. He is third in command.

Holi is the ships scout. Cute, tiny, and fast, he can quickly find places that are good for hiding or good vantage points. He tries to come off as serious and more mature so his teammates will take him seriously, but it rarely works. He has a girlfriend back on Cybertron, which Lander often teases him about. He has a bad habit of letting Lander talk him into doing stupid things with him.

Roadmaster is the teams powerhouse. When they need something big and heavy moved then she's the girl! She's a bit quiet at times as she's unsure if her input would be appreciated, but if asked she's more than happy to give advice. She's a gentle soul that enjoys long drives through nature, and most people find her easy to get along with, but if you make her mad (like hurting her friends) then she very well could rip you in half. She seems to want to get closer to Nautica but is a bit timid around her.

Delta Magnus is an intelligence officer that volunteered to come along on Splendid's journey to record data. He may be a talkative nerd at heart that's a stickler for the rules but rest assured, he can hold his own in battle. With a might that could rival some legends of old, he's a fierce opponent for any Decepticon. He's often found taking notes and overusing the word "glorious". He is second in command

Cast: Decepticons

Despite being a Decepticon, Esmeral is fair and willing to negotiate with anyone that isn't an Autobot. The Empress of Destruction holds a deep grudge against all Autobots for taking her husband from her, and has vowed to wipe them from face of the galaxy. Still, even with a rage burning brighter than the sun she treats her subordinate fairly, especially Lyzack, her second in command. She is also very doting mother! She is currently in ruthless pursuit of Yellow Splendid Convoy's ship.

Lyzack lost her twin brother Leozack thanks to Autobots. Lost as in she literally has no idea where he is. She isn't even sure if he's alive or dead, so she's searching far and wide for any sign of him. She acts mostly as a scout and medic for the Decepticons but she secretly yearns to be able to hold her own on the battlefield by herself like her idol and leader Esmeral, so she's secretly training to fight all by herself.

Solon is Esmeral's adopted human son. Before he was taken out by Autobots, Deathsaurus brought home a human baby and he and Esmeral officially adopted the boy. Solon is now 14 and he holds the same kind of grudge his mother does against the Autobots for taking his father away from him. He is often looked after by Lyzack when Esmeral can't tend to him and he trusts her and considers her to be like a big sister to him. He's never actually been to Earth so he's excited to finally visit the planet he came from and meet more humans.

Overlord isn't the most welcome guy amongst even the most ruthless of Decepticons, but Esmeral knows he's good at exterminating Autobots beyond repair, so she grits her teeth and deals with him. She at least knows her position as leader is safe from him since he "has no interest in leading, only destruction". He's also a warrior from later on in the war so she values that kind of experience. He absolutely loathes Delta Magnus, finding him annoying, and often targets him in fights. Shockingly enough, he actually likes Esmeral's son Solon, and often tries to mentor the boy in the ways of the Decepticons.

Sixshot. Sharp shooter. Intelligence agent. Mercenary. Bot of few words (unless he likes you). Sixshot is a mystery to even most of his comrades, but he gets the job done. He always gets the job done. His temper is something most Decepticons fear and they have nightmares of finding themselves staring down the end of his blaster. He seems to have a soft side though, one that's usually only seen towards Lyzack, Solon, and surprisingly enough, Nautica! He also seems to have a deep warriors respect for Roadmaster.

Double-Dealer is such a good spy, that you have to wonder whose side he's really on. He's cunning, intelligent, and a smooth talker. He can easily manipulate people around him into trusting him. He's currently eyeing Esmeral's position as leader, but he tries to make sure she's none the wiser of his schemes. He's also rumored to be older than he looks, and is said to have not only fought in the war, but to even fallen in love with an Autobot during that time! He considers Lander to be his greatest enemy.

Road Pig is kind of dumb, which makes him easy to manipulate and push around. He's usually going along with whatever scheme Double-Dealer has hatched. Lyzack takes pity on the guy a lot, knowing it's not easy being a Con of such standing. He enjoys taking Solon on joy rides for the two to cause trouble on.

Cast: Predacons

Magmatron is a multi-beast-changer that leads the Predacons in their quest to conquer the galaxy. He is well versed in the ways of the Decepticons but also notes their failures. This led him to make his team of Predacons "follow in the footsteps of the Decepticons. But Better." And better he can be. He's a power house that isn't injured easily, and being able to split into 3 different dinosaurs helps him have an evasiveness advantage. He's surprisingly rather relaxed about his ship rules, allowing the Predacons to do whatever they want most of the time. Though any that try to rise against him are quickly struck down. It's rumored that he had another team of Predacons once, but they all left him for a currently unknown reason.

Budora is second in command in Megmatron's team. He is a stern, serious soldier trained in many fighting styles. He's also easily envious, and longs for power and leadership over all Predacons. Despite this he works under a code of honor and never uses underhanded tricks in a fight. In dragon mode he breaths fire.

Judora is often underestimated by his opponents because of his prim and proper attitude, but make no mistake, he is still a very dangerous Predacon. While he prefers not to escalate things to brutish force he can still be a fierce opponent in a fight. He's as quick on his feet as he is with his wit. He prefers more intellectual and sophisticated things in life. In dragon mode he breaths a poison mist. He is very close to Gaidora.

Gaidora has tremendous physical strength. He may not be smartest Predacon in the group but he's still able to catch onto things going on behind the scenes rather quickly. He's rather quiet and reserved most of the time, and is often going along with whatever Judora is doing. He is fascinated by Earth ants. In dragon mode he breaths lightening. He and Judora are very close.

Bakudora is the youngest of the dragons. He's fast but he's also arrogant and brash, which is often his undoing. He gets easily excited for a fight and goads his opponents on. Upon meeting the Decepticons he and Solon become become friends despite the Predacon-Decepticon rivalry. In dragon mode he breaths ice.

Cast: Others

Anode is an explorer and treasure hunter that came to Earth a couple years ago to explore it with her wife. The two are traveling the planet in search of treasure and having a lot of fun meeting the locals. She's also a bit of a prankster, and upon meeting Splendid's group the first thing she does is play a joke on Ambulon, much to his dismay.

Lug is Anode's wife and travel companion. She's also adventurous at heart but takes more care on the paths they tread. She really has a thing for rocks, being a geologist, and is excited to make an expansive list of all the rocks and gems she finds on Earth. She's actually made it her mission to find and observe every type of rock on Earth. She turns into a backpack so she's often hanging onto her wife's back with whatever loot they've found.

Sky-Byte is an ex-merc for hire that used to run with both Predacons and Decepticons. Now he's a defector for both, wanting nothing to do with either faction. He's instead found his true callings in life, poetry and sea conservation. He works with some local human scientists to preserve the ocean and the wildlife within it. He also utilizes his shark altmode to scare away poachers that try to fish for endangered species. He's often wary of Autobots and Maximals and tries to avoid Decepticons and Predacons completely.

Lio Jr. is a young Maximal that ran off on his own after his father refused to bare responsibility for him. With Lio Convy often denying he was his son, Lio Jr. had enough and decided to head out on his own quest to help as many people as possible to become a great leader. His travels led him to Earth a couple of years ago, where he's been helping humans ever since. He won't talk about his father often, but he secretly yearns for his praise and wants to prove to his father that he can be a good leader like him someday. Once Splendid's crew arrives on Earth Lio Jr. becomes fast friends with Holi and Nautica. Lio Jr. and Sky-Byte are also good friends, with the shark often looking after and mentoring the young maximal.

Rambles on Transformers 7 plus the other 3 energon universe issues I was behind on

Man, these comics continue being so so good aaaaaaaaaaah. I don't have anything smart to say I'm just hype lol.

First of all SOUNWAVE SUPERIOR YEAAAH. vEry interesting development, Soundwave got to lead the Cons in Marvel too but he wasn't like your G1 Soundwave. "You kicked my Ravage" so good. He's been questioning Starscream this whole time so this was the natural development (also the summary spoiled it months ago lol) but still, it makes perfect sense. I think it'll be interesting to see a Decepticon leader who is as brutal as the rest of them but also genuinely cares. He's probably stepping down as soon as Megatron shows up, but I'm eager to see his time at the top. Very good dynamic with TC

Starscream is too iconic to be killed of for real so soon, so he's proably coming back. That's fine because this is how I like my Starscream (unhinged little shit), but if DWJ actually had the guts to off him that would be a very bold move, mis respetos.

Speaking of, I do think they need to dial a bit the introducing characters only to kill them right away, any more and it'll feel tedius. I really hope Kup isn't permadead, I like him.

Elita is glorious and perfect.

We love to see an Arcee who regrets her own adept at violence, yes. I love this idea of Magnus as her mentor, it's a good role for him, we get varied dynamics between the bots and it links her to the movie cast she was originally a part of event tho she's on Earth with the season 1 guys.

It also works to get to know other Autobots better like I said last time. Oh, and the Decepticons too! Really good they're being displayed as characters.

Like I said last time, Cliffjumper not killing Starscream is less about it being the moral choice and more about CJ as a character and introducing conflict with his relationship with Carly. She's certainly having a time. Spike is too. I am liking the children very much.

Interesting to see that Optimus apparently has Spike's memories now. If the Matrix contains the memories of all previous holders it makes sense his would be added to the bunch, I made a joke about Spike hanging with the previous Primes last month lol. Anyway, it could help to bridge OP and the Autobots to the human experience.

Ok so the rest of it

Void Rivals: The Hunter guys is Solila's brainwashed brother which is pretty cool but this series continues to be so slooow. Like, look at how much Transformers gets done per issue. The art remains great so the pacing can be forgiven to a degree but still.

Cobra Commander: Coco makes for a pretty good villian, the series does a good job selling him as eerie and disturbing

Duke: Oh my god, they really aren't doing anything to make me like Duke. Like

When the military stuff shows in TF, it feels like it's there to create parallels and bc of genre, DWJ tries to keep it vague so I'm willing to play along and let it be. I was willing to do the same for the Joe guys since it seemed they were going to become some sort of anti-Cybertronian unit, but unlike Transformers this series seems to have a genuine hard on for the US military and all the macho 'murica stuff and god... it's also by fa the weakest of the EU titles and doesn't offer anything to counter balance and keep my interest. At least Baroness is cool (and she's also right)

Didnt post about it much while i was there (because i was busy enjoying myself) but tfnation is definetly the best convention ive been to. Its too bad i dont have any irl tf fan friends to go with (i literally know one other guy who likes anime all my other irl friends are into very different stuff) but i enjoyed it plenty on my own. last year was my first time and i went for one day and i had a lot more fun going both days. its techically like the 2nd smallest con ive been to but if anything that helps it because its much more ofcused. no other con where i want to see almost every panel/show they have scheduled and buyers room is full of crazy good shit. i got a getter 3 for example. im gonna go again for sure. also less cosplayers than most cons but all the cosplays were stuff i was excited to see. seeing a dude in a soundwave cosplay boogie to weird al was worth the price of admission i wanted to give him a high five for busting those moves

@prussianmemes i’m greatly exaggerating because this was more awkward than explosive but I went to a local con for my birthday last year and I wore the megop bag as a crossbody purse and the Soundwave bag as a backpack. Now this con was geared more towards anime so I expected nobody to really care but I wanted to wear them anyways.

While browsing a little Lolita fashion shop in the dealer’s hall, I hear someone shout “is that the decepticon logo?!” (The yaoi bag has one alongside an Autobot pin) so my ears perk up in hopes of a fellow fan. First warning sign: it’s a guy in a suit.

We made our greetings and one alarm bell goes off for me: the only TF related stuff I had watched by then was TFP and Bayformers. Maybe a few episodes of G1. This guy has seen. ALL OF THEM. So now I’m stuck with a fanboy because I’m separated from my friends and I have no idea what to say because I’m way out of my league.

What follows is snippets of conversation I remember for being even more embarrassing. More so for me being stuck in this and having nothing to add than him:

Me: (fuck the yaoi bag is so stupid uhhhh) hey i also have my soundwave ita check it out! *turns around*

Him: cool buuuuuut I wish Balster got more attention he’s way cooler than Soundwave :/

Me: *has only seen blaster on a merch page once* oh um. Sure hehe.

Me: uhh I like Windblade! She’s really cool I hope she shows up more

Somehow the conversation started to talk about how distraught children were when Optimus died in the ‘87 movie

Me: it’s kinda funny cuz when I was 7 and watching ROTF I wasn’t upset at all when Optimus was brutally killed by Megatron haha

Him: well that’s because modern media has a lot more death than media in the 80s people back then didn’t expect their main characters to die so they were a lot more shocked than us today *this also keeps going. No matter how times I try to interject I was the same age as those kids in 1987 or the fact I only watched MLP and Disney back then, I am not heard.*

The last funny thing was that the conversation finally turned towards TFP, still my favorite so I can talk about it. If I could ever get an edge into this conversation in the first place.

Anyways. He started saying “it’s awesome how in TFP how crazy Megatron is” and it was very clear his next part was going to be “and how he doesn’t love anything” but I swear I saw his eyes flick down to the bright yellow yaoi button sitting on my chest and immediately course corrected and said “and how he’s so destructive and angry”

This was the only time I influenced the conversation probably.

Anyways. During this entire time I was trying to edge away and browse the Lolita shop we were in to escape. It doesn’t work because he keeps following me and keeps talking.

He decides to give me one last jumpscare by asking for my name. By this point I was just kind of frustrated with all of this and I wanted to find my friends again, but now I was straight up panicking. Paranoia sets in hard for me when this happens, when I feel like I’m being hit on. So I gave him my go-to fake name and prepared for the worst. He just told me his name, stuck out his hand. We shook hands and he left. I was free. I crashed at the concessions stand and texted my friends to find me so we could go to the artist alley. All while trying to slow my heart and assert the fact I am not in any danger. This is also stupid because paranoia in an anime con is stupid.

Let me make one thing clear. It’s pretty obvious this guy was somewhere on the spectrum. This was probably his favorite thing and just wanted someone to talk to about it. And I was the worst person to talk to about it because how I like TF was very different from how he liked TF. I should’ve been more forthright about wanting to leave. Maybe mention my friends and how I had to go find them or something. I’m not really mad at him at all. It’s just a funny experience looking back. I wouldn’t mind to see him again if we do ever cross paths. Maybe we could talk about beast wars.

But. That was a relatively small, local con. I’m going to a big one in March. Peter Freaking Cullen will be there. I’m afraid. Very afraid.

It’s true because Soundwaves been in basically every Transformers media since the beginning. From the top of my head, I can only remember three that Jazz was in, and even then he didn’t have a major role like Soundwave did.

The Decepticons in movies and shows now keep the same characters in every show, especially Megatron, Soundwave and Starscream. Hasbro has these three in series since the beginning. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love them and love Soundwave, but I’m kinda wishing for other Decepticons to get the spotlight and shine.

The Autobots in series and movies on the other hand, change a lot. Except from Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, of course. But for every series and show, the main characters flow and switch while Decepticons don’t, and so, one character might be a main character in one movie/show and not show up again until a few years later for either a big or small role. Jazz hasn’t really been seen, from the top of my head, since Robots In Disguise 2015, or at least had a major role that got new fans interested in him enough to vote for him like Soundwave has.

Overall, as Soundwave has had more screen time for younger and older Transformers fans, it’s only logical that people vote for him over Jazz as it’s the one character that is cool and is seen quite a lot, and many would probably relate to him.

I am so sorry for ranting I get really passionate about Transformers and stuff haha ^^

You’re absolutely right though. The main Autobot cast varies drastically between shows. I know Hasbro tries to cycle through them since they’re the “good guys” (*skeptical glare*), but I agree—it would be nice to have other ‘Cons in the spotlight too.

I mean, I think they should at least keep the main 3-4 (Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave, Shockwave), but perhaps not focus on them as much for once.

One of the biggest things I liked about Cyberverse was the fact that they focused on lesser known characters for at least 1 season, and I think Hasbro would do well to do it in the future every so often.

Hashtag: Oops Review - Pros and Cons

SPOILERS

I can’t believe this!! But I’m actually on vacation for a friends wedding and I can’t binge Earthspark!!! FUCK! I guess it’s cool my friend is getting married… BUT STILL.

Anyway. I got to watch the first episode though and I want to make some fan art sooooo bad but that’ll have to wait. So here are some of my pros and cons on the episode for now.

Con- Hashtag is still named Hashtag. It just sounds so goofy coming from someone like Bumblebee. And this is from a show that has someone called Seaspray.

I’m old. I’m grumpy. I hate it. She should have been called Hacker or Codebreaker or Hell, even Wifi or Highspeed.

Pro- Hashtag’s altmode!!! She’s like a field hockey player with a little bit of Prime Arcee mixed in there. Love the color, love the high ponytail. Love the bulky shoulder pads and the snatched waist. *chef kiss*

Con/Pro- I’m not the biggest fan of Hashtags personally but I’m sure it’ll grow on me like Trash and Twitch did.

Con- Soundwave being taken out like a bitch by three humans, a couple of bombshell clones and some rubble.

Pro- Soundwave popped up out of no where suddenly and I smiled.

Con- Insecticons being reduced to growls again? They were mindless in Prime so I hope this episode was just making the clones growl?

For you younglings- The G1 Insecticons had some of the biggest and most distinguishable personalities. They even took over the Cons like three times. Brainwashed Soundwave. Took over the government. They almost took over the world by themselves a bunch of times and once ate all of the human’s crops. They were powerful and evil. Dunno who thought it would be a good idea to take that all away and leave them as blank/mindless slates. I miss the very underhanded and cruel Bombshell and sinister Shrapnel. They had such cool voices too. If anything, make Kickback the non verbal grunt. He was more of a follower of the three anyway.

Biggest con- (for me specifically) I hate them repeating the big brother/big sister thing. I know that’s for the kiddos but it makes me roll my eyes every time. I dunno. I blame it on me being bitter at life. “I can’t leave my big sister in there!” Uuuuugh.

Biggest pro- Twitch is TINY. She can sit on Hashtags shoulder!!!!!! So fucking cute. The last episode for sure didn’t make it look like the new three are Bumblebee size. Thrash barely goes up to Nightshade’s knee. I love it. Size different in TF shows are always nice to see. Especially when it’s not just a tiny fembot and all the guys are huge *coughPrimeAutobots*

Audition by crabapplered (M, Jazz/Prowl). Summary: If one were to be delicate, one would say that Jazz and Prowl are incompatible. My comments: Way back when I entered the TF fandom, this was a) my first introduction to “plug and play interfacing,” and b) the first “smutty” story I read that involved an asexual character. Prowl’s efforts to win Jazz over - and the description of how he actually succeeds, and what it does for Jazz - is the hottest thing I’ve ever read that doesn’t actually involve humanized sexual organs. Reading and “seeing” Jazz finally let go and trust Prowl was so… Hnnnrgh. Love it.

Lab Partners by Celaeno (M, Portal crossover, GlaDOS/Shockwave). Summary: In which GLaDOS gets the best surprise ever, Shockwave gets a kick in the pants to solve the ‘whoops the AllSpark exploded and our species is going to die out' issue, and the Oracle Turret keeps being dead-on (but obtuse). My comments: So I saw this story get posted and thought, “Oh, a Portal/Transformers crossover fic. That sounds amazingly silly. I’ll give it a read.” Two and a half hours later, I was thinking, “That was freaking glorious!” Dudes, Shockwave and GlaDOS were made for each other, and it was great fun watching them grow to become friends. All the callbacks to the Portal games, Shockwave’s characterization, GlaDOS’ unique blend of psychopathy and curiosity, Shockwave’s reaction to Cave Johnson’s lemon rant (“bringing extinction’s champion down in a hail of fire and fruit”)… I sat on my couch randomly cackling and reading good bits out loud. Definitely worth a read!

Spec Ops Mission 98: Jazz's Interrogation at Soundwave's Pedes by @kc-anathema (T, Jazz/ProwlSoundwave and permutations). Summary: Surrounded by the torrid fiction of his fellow Autobots, Jazz uncovers a Decepticon plot hidden amidst their written fantasies. Can the Spec Ops commander turn this plot of high treason into a narrative…of love? OR Jazz is surrounded by a bunch of perverted writers, and wouldn't you know it, one of them is a Decepticon. My comments: This story left me stunned… in a good way. I started reading it as a WIP because the premise sounded hilarious (hahaha, the bots and cons are writing RPF fanfic about each other, hahaha). But as the story went on, it turned into a LOT more. It became a story about love and trust, and forgiveness and boundaries, set against the backdrop of a brutal war. And then when it ended and we got the wrap-up of all the threads that we hadn’t even known existed… Wow. This was an amazing story, and I will definitely read it again someday.

Playing the Long Oddsby @bibliotecaria-d (NR, Prowl/Smokescreen). Summary: A.k.a. the Curious Incident of Too Many Prowls. Starscream will never look at Prowl the same, but neither will Smokescreen. My comments: I love this story in so many ways. First, the author mades use of the fact that Prowl, Bluestreak and Smokescreen were basically just recolours of each other… So could they pass as each other to fool the Decepticons? Then, there’s Prowl’s shyness, and his cringe-worthy lack of social awareness or relationship skills. Finally, there’s the adorableness of Smokescreen finally letting Prowl into his orbit and learning how to like him… And then more. Love it. Note: The last chapter is mostly just sex, and the author notes that if you want to stop at chapter 6 for a nice fluffy, smut-free ending, that works too. (But hey - the alt-mode sex is pretty awesome!)

The Echo Garden by @altraviolet (E/X, Rodimus/Shockwave). Summary: Soundwave's banishment to the shadowzone has been bleak, uneventful and unending. He hasn't been able to contact Megatron or the Nemesis. He's low on fuel. If it weren't for the emotion-suppressing protocols he implemented before the war, he would be miserable. And then one day a dimension-hopping Rodimus falls into the shadowzone and offers him a way out. “You'll like the Lost Light,” said Rodimus. “Everyone gets a second chance, there. You wanna stay here forever?” My comments: This story had been ongoing for quite some time, and just recently was completed (so I can finally add it to my rec list!) Its popularity exploded last year sometime, and with good reason. The author took an odd pairing (Rodimus from the IDW1 comics and Soundwave from Transformers: Prime), threw them together using a conceit adapted from the end of the IDW1 comic run (trans-dimensional travel), and turned it into an absolutely lovely fix-it fic for the end of the More Than Meets the Eye/Lost Light comic run. It has an absolutely stunning and convincing redemption arc for Soundwave, excellent world building, sparkling dialogue, and all the emotional beats you'd want in an epic story. Oh, and an aching slow burn that has a super satisfying payoff.

Feedback Fest 2024

In honour of International Fanworks Day (today! February 15) I am posting some fic recommendations that I've made in the past. (I am super swamped at work and can't write up any new recs, but I previously rec'd these over on my main blog over the past few years. I'm collecting them together again here on my writing blog!)

These ten rec's are in no particular order, and all are in the Transformers fandom (with some crossovers). Ratings and pairings (if relevant) are noted.

Frivolities by @neveralarch (G, Megatron & Starscream). Summary: “My correct form of address is in my ID tag,” snapped Starscream. “Use it or lose your tongue.” My comments: I love this story. I love it so much I’ve recommended it to people who would ordinarily never read Transformers fanfic, simply because I think they’d appreciate what the author is doing. They took canon and fanon, and from it alchemized a story of dysphoria and wanting to be seen and acknowledged in a way the character wants, and wrapped it up in a tidy package that hits like a truck, and have I mentioned I love this story! (makes fists) Read it!

Working Through It by @trinarysuns (M, Skywarp/Thundercracker/Marissa Faireborn). Summary: “TC,” Skywarp says, “I’m, like, ninety percent sure that humans don’t have interface cables.” Thundercracker squawks and almost knocks him over trying to get the script out of his hands. My comments: I can’t say enough about this story. I love it and it pushed so many buttons for me. Not even smutty buttons, just interaction buttons: humans interacting with giant alien robots, old loves reuniting, logitical issues of interspecies getting it on… Tumblr deleted my review of this story, (SIGH) so I reposted my review on DW here. It says a lot more about this fic!

The Soft Rush of Black Static by Monstrosibee (NR, Bluestreak/Prowl). Summary: Prowl doesn’t know a lot of bots on this newly salvaged Cybertron, and he definitely doesn’t know the bot intruding on his construction site. My comments: While this fic is essentially a fix-it fic for a story from the Aligned continuity, it just destroyed me. You can read the basics of what happened between Bluestreak and Prowl on TFWiki (at the end of Chapter 7 of The Covenant of Primus) but it was devastating to actually read how upset Prowl was by what happened. This short little fix-it brought all those emotions back and then healed them. I loved this.

Someone You Might Have Been by @astolat (T, Megatron/Optimus Prime.) Summary: I didn’t love him because he wasn’t you. My comments: I'm rec'ing this because it's just pure "this is exactly what I want to read!" for me. This is a delightful mashup of the Shattered Glass universe and G1, in which the Optimus Primes from each universe get (temporarily) swapped. It’s an amazingly heartwrenching MegOP story.

Crash Site by Slyboots (G, Breakdown/Knock Out). Summary: June Darby does not believe in aliens, or in haunted highways, or in government conspiracies, or in any other small-town folklore. The new mechanics in town are uncanny, all the same. My comments: I am a sucker for Transformers: Prime fics, and one of the (it's canon! suck it Hasbro) ships from the show that I love is Knock Out/Breakdown. But besides that, I just love the vibe of this story. You can feel Knock Out and Breakdown in it, even if June doesn’t really see them, except out of the corner of her eye.
