I combined today’s craft fair with a marketplace pickup a few towns down, but yesterday I messaged the seller intending to bail because it was just getting too complicated planning around prepping/traveling (and she checked in bc she had other inquiries), etc. She offered to bring my items to the fair for me because she just wanted to go to a craft fair lol, which seemed a little sketch giving a location and everything but hey public space with lots of people so whatever. It’s getting way past her planned arrival time and the fair is winding down, so this is when staff bring out some ambassador animals for a stroll through the room (all the owls!!) to chat with vendors and I wind up just walking and chatting through the entire thing with…the marketplace seller, who is a sweet lovely woman my mom’s age and we don’t realize who each person is til my phone buzzes signaling she’s arrived and we exit the building from separate doors, lol. She is like…so happy she got to come and see the art and animals and it was the sweetest thing ever

CW: 18+ MDNI, soap x reader, unsolicited nudes, pushy behaviour, implied noncon elements - 1K words, semi-edited - dividers -> @/cafekitsune
Anxiously sending in an offer for a kitchen appliance you’re in dire need of via an online social media marketplace, only for the seller- JTav87, to reply instantly.
The notification comes when you’re taking a curious peep at his info. His proflile makes him seem nice enough- real 'the cool uncle’ vibes. The page's display picture is a snap of him grinning ear to ear with one of his big paw-like hands at his chest in a thumbs up gesture, the other being obscured behind the lid of an outdoor grill; a family gathering in full swing behind him.
It's all topped off with the stock photo of a beach at sunset as his header, the poorly stretched image sporting a sprawling near-unreadable quote about resilience smack-dab in the middle, gratuitous high contrast vignette filters over everything as a little banner pops up at the bottom of your screen; a message from the seller.
‘I cn do tht.’
you hastily type out a reply in fear of the purchase somehow getting delayed or cancelled.
‘You’re a lifesaver😊I've been searching high and low for one of these!’
Being too friendly was your first mistake, you just wanted to make a good impression- it seemed harmless at the time.
The pickup goes off without too much of a hitch- you meet up as requested in the well-lit parking lot of a generic chain cafe, puffing out cold breaths from behind your jacket and nursing a warm beverage you had managed to grab. Stepping out of a beat up pickup, you come to find that he’s a lot bigger than his pictures would have you assume, not shockingly tall, but his overall aura and bulk make him seem like a giant. His bare arms splay outwards, stretching the fabric of his ill-fitted tee in a gesture that almost had you worried he was going to go in for a hug- thankfully, a firm handshake seems to suffice.
“Och! Yer’ hands’re baltic!” he exclaims with a blinding smile, rosy tips of his ears and nose being the only tell he was affected by the weather himself as he claps his other hand around yours, rubbing them together to create heat. It's an action that nearly had you spilling the drink in your free hand as you stagger a bit in response to the contact- something he seemed to either not notice, or not mind.
The real kicker was the way he refused to take your money, hemming and hawing about how you should be saving that money for stuff you need- as if the appliance you were purchasing wasn’t that exactly. “A’hm not gonna take yer’ money- a’hm t’fond of ye’.”
whatever that means.
It's good you didnt pay, evidently. When he had loaded it into your car- having the gall to laugh after you asked if he needed help, mind you- he had forgotten the cord that made the thing work, offering you a lovely little surprise when you finally got home.
On queue, there's a muffled ding from the device in your pocket.
‘forgt 2 brng cord. srry x’
your eyes could have rolled out of your head; suffice to say, you weren't impressed.
‘I really needed this tonight, had baking I needed to do for a party tomorrow 🫤weather’s too bad for me to go out again tonight.’
‘cn drop off at urs if u wnt?’
Had you been in any other situation, this would have been a hard no- sadly however, your stress and desperation leads you into letting the heavyset man worm his way in through your front door as if he owns the place, cord bunched up and hanging out of his back pocket while he kicks the snow from his boots with a saintly smile.
Surprisingly, the drop off is quick- only interrupted by him asking to use your toilet as you're distracted with pulling out baking supplies. Before you know it, he’s back on the icy roads again. You almost wish you had offered him some coffee or tea-
 Almost.
When the morning sun bleeds through your curtains, you pick up your phone to find a notification from JTav87.
‘Hve a grate day x’
You frown and ignore the message as you start your day, but it only seems to embolden him into sending you countless more, the tone of the messages becoming increasingly more romantic as time draws on- some of your work friends at the office party even ask you if there was a new beau in your life when you had made the mistake of leaving your phone face up atop the breakroom table while you ate.
The final straw between you, your peace of mind, and the block button comes that night with a handful of alarmingly explicit voice messages in your inbox, promptly followed by a very-much so unprompted video of him shirtless and moaning while he chokes his swollen dick in a vice grip- all done over a familiar bunched up pair of underwear that you know with certainty had been at the top of the hamper in your bathroom.
Little is left to the imagination when he snatches up the stolen garment, bringing it to his nose, face just out of frame as his chest expands in response. His audible fist-fucking and jerking hips get more frenzied as he gives one last brutal tug all the way from his base to the head, hand flexing as he aims his shot at his phone, cum coating the counter space directly in view of the camera.
His spent cock bobs and drools, stomach muscles contracting wildly as he leans back into the wall behind him; taking a moment before reaching forward to stop the video, searing the image of his hazy, wolfish grin in your mind.
His free hand gets busy sopping up his mess in your underwear as the screen flashes back to the clip's first frame, offering you the prompt to watch again.
It would later become apparent that blocking could only do so much to seperate you from a mutt like John MacTavish- especially when he's privy to your home address.

How to create a logo for your Business/Blog
Tumblr media
If you have a website, blog or business then you definitely need a logo.
Not sure where to start though? How the hell do you get a logo? Can I do it myself? Do I hire someone?
You can make something basic yourself to get started. Eventually, you’re going to want a professionally designed logo that’s going to stand out and effectively tell people who you are and help you become more recognizable.
So I have a nice list of options here for you to help you to get started, so you can find someone to design your logo exactly how you like it.
So I put together this video, or you can scroll past to read the written post!
Please Note: By playing any videos on this page, you hereby consent to the use of YouTube’s Cookies.

Stop for a second.
This is important… What is a logo… really?
I recently redesigned the logo for this website and spoke about it here. I want to say that if you’re wanting to create a logo or even a name for your brand, then do not rush it.
A logo is a simple identifiable emblem or icon that is unique to the entity (or business) it represents, even if that emblem is pure text.  Using certain visual elements, a logo creates an image that can be branded onto promotional material and clearly marks a promotion or product visually.
It’s more than just a simple identifier. A good logo that is designed well will give the viewer some idea or feel for it who the company is, what they do and the just how professional and reliable they are.
A clean-cut but smart looking logo says to a person that this company offers a good service or product in a professional manner – while a cluttered and poorly designed logo reeks of “this company is cheap and nasty“.  So proper logo design can make or break that ‘first impression’ we’re all out there trying to nail.
You want it to be effective.
So keep it simple, iconic and avoid complicated designs or fonts. It should be easy to read and flexible enough to be used in multiple areas regardless of shape and color limitations. It may be worth googling some logos and getting a collection of logos you like for reference.
So test your logo in black and white to see if it works, show a few key people and make sure it’s likable and relevant.
But, let’s move onto how to make this happen!
Please Note: some of the links below are affiliate links I earn a commission from. I still highly recommend these products with or without the link and it is at no extra cost to you, with the occasional discount being placed on these links also.

Make your Own Online
This is the budget solution for most people. Maybe you love the idea or challenge of doing it yourself, maybe you’re a good designer and are fully capable of creating a logo.
Maybe you just can’t afford it and this your best option.
So there are a few options you can try to create your own logo, and there are varying levels to this whole idea. But first, you can create a logo from scratch using a design or photo editing program. You can then export the file in a PNG for use on your website – or a vector PDF, AI or EPS for commercial printing.
Below are some programs perfect for the job
Adobe Illustrator (part of Creative Cloud)
Adobe Photoshop (part of Creative Cloud) – basic text logo tutorial here!
CorelDRAW
Those above programs will require the most expertise and a bit of knowledge with a computer. But there are also Websites out there that do the job. But if you’re handy with programs like these, they could be a good way to get your initial logo designed.
Otherwise, here are a few other options for you!
Brand Crowd
Tumblr media
Brand Crowd is a simple logo creation website with a basic process. Simply hop on, find a design you like and then customize it. You’ll then be given some options on color, icons, and elements to make your logo in a nice visual interface.
They also have the option to ‘buy out’ the design if you really like it, so no one else can use that emblem in their future designs. This means your logo can be more uniquely for you.
You can then modify things like the text, layout and add shapes to your design to further customize it. You can also save these and come back later. So you can take your time when creating your logo.
You pay a small fee (last I checked it was $20) to download the logo once it’s finished. Or you can sign up for more options via their membership which can be great if you want to do more than just one variation.
Check out Brand Crowd here.
Looka
Tumblr media
Brand Crowd is a simple logo creation website with a simple process – type in your business name and pick some logos you like. Looka will then generate a number of options for you!
This is a nice process for creating a logo but I found mixed results. Sometimes you got good designs, other times they were pretty ordinary. The process is also a little longer than Brand Crowd but you may prefer it, so it depends on your taste.
Look also has its own customizer and you pay usually $20 or more for your final logo.
Check out Looka
Canva
Tumblr media
Canva is a bit more advanced but a fun editor for those not willing to move to the complexity of Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.
Canva can be used to create not just logos, but social media graphics, posts, PDF’s and a whole bunch of other options. I think Canva allows the most freedom is perhaps the biggest of the design tools out of the 3 just mentioned.
Most importantly, they have a logo creator.
You can start from scratch, drawing shapes and adding test to create your logo or find something pre-existing in the templates and customize it.
Check out Canva
Tumblr media
Buy a Premade Logo
The following options allow you to find a logo you like, purchase it and get your name added to it. One of the reasons these websites are worth the money is the logo you buy is for sale only once, no one else will buy that logo after you (or before, or you wouldn’t be able to buy it!)
So the following are some resources you can try:
Logo Mood
Tumblr media
A simple website with clean, professional logos. Explore a category that matches your business and go from there!
Logo Mood is definitely a place for the higher-end designs and quite often, higher price tags to match.
Check out Logo Mood
Logo Ground
Tumblr media
Again, once you buy a logo here you hold all of the rights and it’s yours! Another high-end marketplace with very well crafter logos and designs.
There’s some really cool stuff at Logo Ground and it offers a vastly different style of designs than Logo Mood.
Check out Logo Ground
Logo is us
Tumblr media
Same as above, buy a logo and get it, customize the text to your needs and receive high-resolution bitmap images and commercial ready vector files for your use.
This a nice, simple website and tends to be a bit cheaper than the above options. Quality varies but there are plenty to choose from.

Tumblr media
Find a local or online graphic designer
This option will most likely be the easiest but one of the most expensive options out there. If you’re truly serious, you will most likely go this route for your logo design.
It’s simple, search google for a Graphic Designer in your area (so search for ‘Graphic designer Rome’ or whatever area you live in). If you have trouble, try asking friends on Facebook / Instagram. Facebook business groups are a great place to do this.
You do need to do a little leg work, but you will most likely find someone who is better at communicating with you as they’re from your area and speak your language.
They will talk to you about what you like and are looking for, it may be good to send them samples of logos you like, or imagery/icons you think will do a good job.
Skill level can vary though, so try to look at previous examples first.
Note: at the time of writing this, I am a graphic designer who creates logos. Feel free to check out my design website if you’re curious.)
Start a Contest at 99 Designs
Tumblr media
The idea behind 99 designs is simple – you post a job known as a ‘contest’ and a bunch of artists create variations you can choose from.
A good and bad thing is that you choose the price of the logo design and go from there. It’s good because you’re in control of the budget but the bad thing is that if you don’t offer good money, you will most likely get poor results.
The other issue with contests is that a lot of good designers won’t bother working on a project unless they know they’re going to get paid (fair is fair!), so you get a lot of designers who aren’t quite that good. But there still seems to be some talent in the contest pool over at 99 designs.
Because of this, 99 Designs also has designers you can search and work direct with instead of a contest, so you get proper, one on one service for your logo which can land you with a better design.
Check out 99 Designs
Check out Design Crowd
Tumblr media
Design Crowd is a graphic design focused freelancing website.
It’s an outsourcing and crowdsourcing platform that gives you the option to find a specific designer or enter a design contest, much like 99 designs.
This site has some really talented designers working for them so give it a go!
Visit Design Crowd

Find a Freelancer Online
Working one on one with a freelancer may suit you perfectly. You get to deal with one person and get to work on the details over time.
If you’re a picky person or want a logo that is incredibly unique, then you should consider going this way as it will mean the design you have made will be based off your brief/discussion with the designer.
This is better than a generic design bought online or a poor design created by someone who is inexperienced.
Fiverr
Tumblr media
Fiverr is a cool place to look for logo designers ranging in price from very cheap to expensive.
Simply head to Fiverr, sign up and search for logo designer and you’ll get a number of options. Each person has a star rating and portfolio so you can check out the quality before committing. You can get very cheap designs if you’re looking for a quick and cheap approach or you can go with something more expensive.
Fiverr is a great platform for just about any design work but the quality is often not top tier. Again, seeking out a local or online professional with a proven track record may produce better quality.
Check out Fiverr
Try some of these other Freelancing Networks
The following sites are Freelancing networks with a vast range of people to work with. I grouped these together as these sites are a little more generic and less focused than the above recommendations, but could be worth looking at if you don’t find what you need above.
Upwork
Guru
Toptal
Freelancer
Any of the above options should land you a logo!
Remember to take your time and don’t rush the process. A good logo that works well isn’t going to happen in a few days. Give it at least a couple of weeks or more, sit on the designs and make sure you’re happy when you do pick one.
Getting your logo right early in the game is highly valuable and saves you some headaches. if you decide to rebrand, you may need to time things really well or possibly throw out a heap of promotional material that’s designed using an outdated logo.
Get a good logo early. Establish your brand’s visuals and overall look and feel.
So before making a final decision, ask this question…
What is a logo… really?
A logo is a simple identifiable emblem or icon that is unique to the entity (or business) it represents.  Using certain visual elements a logo creates an image that can be branded onto promotional material that clearly marks a promotion or product with that entity.
More than just a simple identifier, a good logo that is designed well will give the viewer some idea or ‘feel’ for it who the company is, what they do and the just how professional and reliable they are.
A clean-cut but smart looking logo says to a person that this company offers a good service or product in a professional manner.
While a cluttered and poorly designed logo reeks of “this company is cheap and nasty“.  So proper logo design can make or break that ‘first impression’ we’re all out there trying to nail.
The Nike Logo, simple, memorable and highly effective.
Tumblr media
What Makes a Good Logo?
You need to understand exactly what works!  While you can look at some of the most successful logos in the world (think McDonalds or Nike), you can also look at some of the bad ones –  terribly designed messes that are just plain ugly to the human eye – and learn from them.
But if you really want to be certain you’ve got a winner, try to stick to these guidelines:
1. It must be memorable!
If someone were to see a logo a number of times and not recognize it, than the logo is what I like to call a ‘fail‘.
Like a car that doesn’t start, or a shoe without a sole a logo needs to serve it’s main purpose. To create an image that is remembered, so when the logo is viewed again the person who sees it knows exactly who it represents.
This breeds familiarity between the viewer of the logo, the people it represents and what they do – the main purpose of the logo.
2.  Aim for Simple and Unique!
Simplicity makes things convenient & easier to process.
An overly detailed logo could take too long to take in, and recognition becomes harder if you have to stop and think about what you’re looking at before making the connection.  A complicated logo may be hard to see from a distance or when shrunk while a simple logo that is different from anything else out there is quick and easy to process and differentiates itself from other brands.
To keep your logo unique, try looking at other logos within the same industry – aim not to create something similar to that.
A simple logo that tells a larger story of the company does in a smart way is always memorable!
 3. It must have, to some degree,  a common ‘theme’ with who it represents.
If you created a logo for a hamburger shop with a shoe icon as your logo – you’d be feel pretty stupid wouldn’t you?
While not all logo’s need an image, the overall look & feel of the logo must match the product or service it represents.
Hot food works with a warm looking logo, just like an ice cream shop is represented well with cooler colors.  Make your design appropriate so that when someone sees the logo they have a pretty good idea of what it represents.
4. Make it Flexible.
Logo’s are meant to be put everywhere, that’s how branding works.
But the space in which a logo must go quite often changes;  it can be square, rectangular or even round.  You need to make a logo which either fits well into most places or can be rearranged to.
On top of that the format can change in terms of color – it may also be printed or engraved.  Your logo must work in black and white as well as color since you may not always have the option to include color in your branding – this is aided heavily by simplicity.
If you’ve ever tried to fit a square logo in a long horizontal banner, you’d be familiar with this need!  You can’t waste the space and you can’t stretch the logo out of proportion (please don’t stretch it!), so make the logo more flexible.
Tumblr media
What types of Logos are there?
Massive brands like McDonalds, Coca Cola and Nike are the best in the world at using their iconic branding to spread awareness of their business without a symbolic representation of their product or service actualy is (some being text only and relying on their well known name) – but will it work for you?
These 3 businesses all use logos that represent nothing to do with their service, but that’s because they are established.
An established business can slowly evolve their logo into something that is unique and doesn’t even really relate to what they do because of their reputation or alternative method in which they market their services.
A logo without a ‘theme’ can be used effectively with the words contained in the logo (eg. Monster Print – would obviously have something to do with printing), or the clever use of the logo on themed branding which tells the reader what the business is all about.  For example, if you saw a picture of a 3D Television with the Sony logo clearly branded on it – you’d pretty quickly make the connection that Sony are selling 3D TVs.
There is usually some external method (outside of the logo) of expressing what the business does.
It may also be handy to consider an alternative – something iconic that represents what the business does. You can use an actual symbol or an object, or you can arrange the wording in a clever way that allows for something to be added or modified in a clever way to get the point across.  It can be something like changing a letter or adding an object between words.
Remember the following
Do yourself and the world a big favor – create your logo in Vector!
Avoid bitmaps, avoid clip art, and create it entirely from scratch to be certain it is unique.
Vector is a scalable format and will make your logo easy to use for just about any format or media, and it’s incredibly easy to apply changes to – if you’re working with a client there’s a big chance they’ll ask for a lot of changes.
Work with CMYK colors, or if you’re only using 2 or 3 colors – pick Pantone equivalents so there’s a color standard that the logo can be matched to when it is being reproduced.
Work in programs like Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW to create your logo in vector format & in the right color space.
Also try to keep your use of text neat and legible – no more than 3 fonts!  Keep it clean and tidy and don’t use the over-done ‘crazy’ looking fonts or fonts that are too thin that no-one will be able to read.  Keep it simple and professional.
As you can see creating the actual logo is a very small part of the whole process!
When you’re done, the next step depends on your situation.  If the logo is for you then stop when you’re happy.  If it’s for a client you may want to show a few variations (3 or 4 at most – too many will just confuse them), and get ready for changes.  Once they’re happy, you’ve finished the design process!
Tumblr media
Handing over the logo
A good designer will offer a style guide or a basic information sheet with colors and fonts that match the logo, so it may be worth creating a style guide for the logo.  This is handy as a client will more than likely try to use the logo in ways that are just visually horrible, having a guide for spacing and general usage MAY help to avoid such ‘logo abuse’ (I hate seeing my proud logo designs being used in an ugly way!).
Otherwise you can export the logo to different file formats and supply them to the your client (or yourself) with all text converted to curves.  For professional usage a PDF & EPS file is a must (possibly an AI file may be handy too), but many clients also require something simple (to put into their evil word documents!) – so save a jpeg also.
These files can be emailed, uploaded to DropBox or popped onto a USB.  Whatever suits your situation and relationship with your client.
You’re Done!
Kick back, take it easy for about 5 seconds and move onto the next job!
This process only covers the basic guidelines and not actual program usage. Good design does take some experience so practice makes perfect!
If you’re not a designer or not looking to become one – then hire a professional to design a logo for you – otherwise you’ll probably end up with a substandard logo that represents your image as that of a sub-standard business. It may cost a decent chunk of money, but it’ll be worth it with a good designer.
Remember, making the logo is the easy part, understanding what you want for the logo, and what will work is where the real skill comes in.  So knowing what makes a good logo is essential.
Thank you for reading this post, I hope you found it useful. Also, leave a comment below if you have a logo you’d like to share. otherwise, I’ll talk to you next time!

The Testament of the Android

================================== DISCLAIMER: The Paranoid's Bible and its writers hold no responsibility for the acts of others. The Paranoid’s Bible is for research and entertainment purposes only. Please visit our blog for more PDFs and information: https://www.paranoidsbible.tumblr.com/ ================================== Contents Preface    4 What is Rooting?    5 Benefits and drawbacks of root    6 Common custom versions of Android    7 Basic apps Google doesn’t want you to know about    9 XPosed Installer    11 XPrivacy    12 Rooting 101    13 Installing your custom ROM    14 Afterword    15 ================================== Preface Hello guys. I was asked by the Paranoid’s Bible team to make a short segment about Android rooting and security to complement the main book as the team is too paranoid to move on from their Nokia 3310. Well, here it is. In this guide, I will talk about some easy methods to root your phone, why you need to do it this very moment without excuse, mention some ROM’s for you to load onto your phone and finally, some apps to protect the little privacy you have left in your life. At least for a week until the NSA decides to reveal that all phones since 2001 has had several hardware-level backdoors installed. ================================== What is Rooting? Rooting is the process of gaining “root”-level access on your Android device. For some reason, Google thought it was a brilliant idea to lock away the Android version of an Administrator account for “your own safety and ease of use”. Basically, your phone is gimped on purchase. While most people won’t even notice it, the admin account is out of your grasp. Imagine if that was true for your PC. Something’s wrong, and it’s easy to fix, but you can’t run CMD.exe as admin to fix the issue with three lines of commands. You want to install this piece of software, but you need admin rights to do it so you can’t use it. That’s the default setting on Android. As you can see, it’s basically a middle finger to consumers and developers alike, and many phone producers (like HTC and Samsung) are aware of the potential drawbacks of this and therefore have made it much easier for the average user to unlock this power of system administration. Also, with root, you can get rid of /ALL/ apps installed on your phone, so if you have a Samsung (or any American carrier phone with bloat installed), you will feel blessed by the seven gods of fate over the ability to remove said cancerous bloat that does nothing but take up space. ================================== Benefits and drawbacks of root As I touched on briefly before, Root has some amazing benefits. I’ll make a short list of it now, followed by a list of cons to make it easy to decide if rooting is for you. Pros: • System-level control • Uninstall carrier apps • Custom OS install • Hardware-level tweaks (CPU speed, battery life, better screen controls, multi-touch boost) • Install ALL apps on your device • Custom functions and button mappings • AdBlock • System images for 100% reliable backup • Super secret privacy stuff on your device • xPosed network Cons: • Risk of soft-bricking your device • You may void your warranty • All updates of your Android version must be done by hand • Minor compatibility issues • You won’t ever be able to live with stock android again ================================== Common custom versions of Android Even if you aren’t into rooting, you should already know about CyanogenMod. It’s probably the most expansive, compatible and well-marketed version of Android out there and it has been customized to run on a frankly insane amount of devices. But for now, let’s do a run-down on the most popular ROM’s and some a little more obscure and device-specific for your pleasure. ==Cyanogenmod - https://www.cyanogenmod.org/ == As mentioned just before, Cyanogenmod is probably the way to go for a beginner root user. It’s so simple that my mom actually uses it and likes it. That should tell you pretty much everything you need to know. If a 51-year-old woman finds joy in using this ROM, even the most tech-ignorant should be able to not mess it up. I would recommend this for every beginner because it’s as close to stock android as you can come, but with a hefty amount of added features like security reinforcement and theme support. The best thing about Cyanogenmod is that it comes with its own easy installer. Just hit up their site and follow their “how to install” guide and you are up and running in less than 15 minutes. ==Carbon - https://carbonrom.org/== Like CyanogenMod, this ROM is remarkably close to stock, but it has some nice goodies out of the bag as well. First off, it has a sleek, beautiful design, powerful optimization and is designed with a great user Experience in mind. The rom also has a nice toolbox for Carbon-exclusive features for you to tinker with. ==SlimRom - https://www.slimroms.net/ == SlimRom is another one of the UX-based roms that look, feel and work wonderfully. This rom is pretty unique and has a nice slew of features that makes the phone adapt to you, from theme inversions, left-handed mode, privacy guards and a lot more listed on their website. Do check this out of you feel like having some bling to your functionality. A fair warning: The ROM isn’t s light-weight as the previous mentions, so keep in mind that it probably won’t run well on a mid-low tier phone. ==AOKP -  https://aokp.co/ == “Infused with Magical Unicorn Power” indeed. They don’t lie with that tag line. This is probably the most impressive ROM out there and needs no introduction to the people in the scene. You simply won’t find any ROM with more functions out of the box. An honestly baffling amount of hardware-level tweaks, software customizations and said Unicorn magic will make you love this ROM. Note that this will work on mid-high level phones and above. The drawback to this one is its honestly overwhelming feature set. So, if you want this to be your daily driver, please take your time to figure out how it works. ==Paranoid Android - https://paranoidandroid.co/ == Paranoid Android… Just the name makes it fit right into here. A bunch of security, a touch of amazing material design and always up-to-date, this is probably the rom for you if you like a great experience without all the hassle of tinkering with it yourself. ==Android Revolution HD - https://android-revolution-hd.blogspot.com/ == This ROM is for select HTC and Samsung devices only. Wait, why do you list it here then, Pleb, I hear the strawman in my head talk. Well, if you have ever used HTC’s version of Android they named “Sense”, you would know. The Sense overlay and features are simply some of the best. I am not even kidding here. I avoided to root my old HTC legend just because I couldn’t get a keyboard that was half as good as the one the phone came with. And all of the nice features. And the amazing UI…. Anyone that has ever used Sense wouldn’t be able to go back. And now, some wizard made a custom rom based on Android 4.4.2 and Sense 6 for you to install on your phone. So people with and HTC One M7 can still benefit from the new version of Sense that HTC doesn’t officially support for the device. Simply Magical. Please note: There are a lot of custom ROM’s out there I didn’t mention here. Just do a quick Google search if you feel like the short list I provided wasn’t enough for you. ================================== Basic apps Google doesn’t want you to know about Okay. This is where the magic happens. Did you know that Google doesn’t allow a lot of really, really useful stuff onto its main marketplace, the Google Play Store? No? Well, sit down and listen, because you are going to have your mind blown. Here’s a list of my most commonly used grey market apps for you to install: AdAway As the name suggests, this App is an ad blocker. But not just for your browser, but your entire fucking phone. Ever get tired of ads in your free games? Let’s take Cut the Rope as an example. One minute of game, three minutes of adverts. Well, that’s all in the past now, as AdAway blocks most ad networks via the hosts file on your device (See, I told you that rooting is useful). AdBlock Edge Well, let’s be honest. AdAway doesn’t catch everything, and neither does AdBlock. But together, the two cover for each other, and since I have had both of these puppies installed on my phone, I haven’t seen a single ad anywhere. Not in the browser, not in my notification feed, not anywhere. Just do yourself a favor and do this. As an added benefit, you’ll save bandwidth on your phone. Any Play Store replacement Yeah. For one reason or another, Google isn’t keen on letting you know that there are other ways for you to install apps on your device if you don’t like the hive-mind all that much. And the best thing? It’s pretty easy too! Here’s a short list of app stores you should take a gander at as an alternative: F-Droid: A basic, but developer-driven play store alternative that has some experimental apps that for one reason or another didn’t get onto Google Play. Do check it out. Amazon App Store: Yep, Amazon has its own app store, complete with both paid and free apps and games. SlideMe: A nice, community driven app store based on exploration AppsLib: A play store alternative mostly based for Tablet apps that couldn’t pass Google certification. Hidden gems galore. BlackMart: YO HO HIBBITY HE BEING A PIRATE IS ALL THERE TO BE DO WHAT YOU WANT CUZ A PIRATE IS FREE YOU ARE A PIRATE!! This one offers you paid apps for free. Yep. No strings attached. Personally, I would prefer you guys to pay for your apps as the $1 they cost isn’t really a major setback. But if you want to run a 100% info-free device, you have no other option. MarketEnabler: Not as much a replacement as it is a way to get out of region-locked downloads. BootManager This app is another one that requires Root to run. What does it do? It completely kills the auto-start triggers some apps have. You know how Skype is impossible to actually close because it always re-opens on pretty much every occasion it can? Well, nevermore to that. AppOps starter AppOps is a developer tool in Android that Google leaked by accident and has covered up since the leak. What does it do? It pretty much disables individual permissions every app you have installed has, iOS style. Because they “patched it out”, you need this to actually open the menu. But now, Angry Birds will never have to know where you sit on the toilet playing it, I guess. GravityBox Remember the hardware-level tweaks and OS tweaks I talked about on the custom ROM section? With this app, you can get that on stock, or hell, any ROM there is. No-frills CPU control Well, it’s exactly as it says on the tin. Control your CPU speed without any hassle. Titanium Backup Best backup tool there is. Just do yourself a favor and get this. UnbelovedHosts Removes ads, access to malware domains and other host-file tweaks you will love. Of course, there are many more, but I want to keep this short and sweet for the newbs. Remember, search engines are your friends if you want to have more stuff. ================================== XPosed Installer Oh boy. This one is pretty grand. It’s the single-most amazing benefit of root. The story behind this is that a guy wizard on the XDA forums found a way to make ROM-level changes on your phone without having to boot into recovery and manually patch your ROM. Yeah. Because of this, xPosed installer is the single-most useful tool for device customization and hardware-level tweaks. It’s basically a toolset for toolsets. Basically, this is a framework to install tweaks on your phone. Just as easy to use as any app store, but with 100% useful things. XPosed installer is also needed to install XPrivacy (duh), so you better just grab this from the get-go. All you do to install a module is pick it, download it and reboot your phone. Bam. If tweaking an OS could get any easier than this we would all be exalted into godhood. ================================== XPrivacy Well. In the chapters passed, we have touched briefly upon security. Now comes the mother of all privacy apps on the system. XPrivacy is a toolbox, not unlike the ones you can find on XPosed, but this one focuses on, well, you guessed it: Privacy! Okay, right away, I want you to just go buy the pro version. The guy who made this has sunk half his personal time into making this, and the paid version basically runs itself, so just do it. It’s worth the money you cheap bastard. Well, what can you do with this awesome piece of software? Restrict App permissions, restrict hidden permissions, show how much data each application uses, sends and downloads behind your back, makes a debug log for you, forces secure connections when it can, flushes your cache for identifying data, FRAKKING FAKES YOUR DEVIDE ID, NUMBER, SERIAL, HARDWARE, SCREEN RESOLUTION, GPS COORDINATES, MAC ADDRESS, IMEI NUMBER, ANDROID ID, GSF ID, ADVERTISING ID, COUNTRY, OPERATOR, GSM CELL ID, SSID AND USER AGENT. AND IT RANDOMIZES IT ON REBOOT TOO! THIS PIECE OF SOFTWARE BASICALLY SINGLE-HANDEDLY CLOAKS YOU AND YOUR PRIVACY IN A NUKEABLE WAY Another added benefit of having the paid version is the community filters. We are all too lazy to manually poke around with permissions on the 100+ apps that are on our phones, so with a simple click of a button, you can cut the balls off of all of your apps at once. No hassle, no sweat, no nothing. Just get this. You have no excuse not to. The software basically runs itself after you set it up (pretty simple to do, too). ================================== Rooting 101 Okay, now, after you have digested all of the nice options that are open to you, you want to root your phone. “But Pleb!! How do I do that??” You ask? Well, it’s actually pretty simple nowadays. Back when I rooted my first device (A HTC Legend, notorious for its Fascist-tier boot loading protection), I had to work around with custom SD cards, command line hacks and shady software. But nowadays, you can pretty much hook your phone to your computer, press a couple of buttons and bam. Done. Here are some ways to easily root your phone: CyanogenMod Installer: https://www.cyanogenmod.org This one is probably the simplest. Go to CyanogenMods homepage, download the tool and follow instructions. Within ten minutes, you should have a nicely rooted phone. Since this is literally the easiest thing in the world to do, I won’t describe how it’s done. It’s literally a 1-2-3-4-done thing. Kingo Root: https://www.kingoapp.com/ This is the second easiest option you have. It’s another plug-and-play with simple directions that are impossible to mess up. Just follow the steps and you are done. This doesn’t have a 100% success rate, but if it fails, nothing happens. So you won’t mess up your phone this way. If you have a HTC or a Samsung phone, this is the tool to use as it also bypasses the protection these phones might have installed. FramaRoot: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/framaroot/root-framaroot-one-click-apk-to-root-t2130276 Okay. I lied. This is probably the easiest way to root since it doesn’t even need a computer to do so. Just download the .APK, run it and bam. Rooted. This app runs a couple of exploits to force Super User and Root access on your device, and because of that, it can pretty much tell you if you are wasting your time right away. Just look up the thread on the XDA forum I linked to read about how to use this app. Finally, if you are unsure about how this works in practice, you can just search “Android Root tutorial” on YouTube and see it in action. It’s literally never been easier to root your phone than it is nowadays. As an extra bonus, you can look up showcases of Android roms on there too, in case you want to see them in action before committing. Speaking about…. ================================== Installing your custom ROM This is a little fiddlier than just rooting your current ROM, but it’s still a fairly easy thing to do. Here’s a short tutorial on how to do it in end-2014. This might be updated once a better way is developed, but you can just Google it if you feel like not bothering me. WHAT YOU NEED: • A rooted phone • A computer • A Mini-USB cable • Internet connection After you have downloaded your ROM of choice, you need to also download the Google APK files in case you want to have Google maps, play store and all the other things. Different tiers of the APK files can be found here: https://www.sharedapk.com/google-play-services-3-0-25/ Turn your phone off and boot it into recovery mode. This differs from device to device, so a quick search for “recovery mode [device name]” should do. Now, open this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHULkfePcTg  and follow the instructions to install TWRP Recovery and follow the steps to install the custom ROM. The good thing about TWRP is that it has a touch screen interface that makes recovery much easier than with stock. Bam! Now you are done. Easy, wasn’t it? ================================== Afterword So, this 101 EZ-guide is now over. Personally, I find it important to share this, even if it’s just adding to the redundancy of the resources online. Well, I hope that you have found this a little helpful, and if you want me to edit something in here, add more stuff or maybe fix a mistake, please send message to paranoidsbible.tumblr.com Anyhow, have a good one and enjoy your freshly-rooted phone!

Ultimate Guide to Start Selling on eBay
Have you ever been curious about selling on eBay but didn’t know where to start? This guide will take you through everything you need to know to start a successful eBay business and make money fast.
That's right, without relying solely on your car! 🙂
I’ve been selling on eBay for several years and have made all the mistakes in the book. Thankfully, with these tips, you’ll be able to avoid the common errors and ensure that you’re achieving the maximum profit from day one.
Essential Items to Get Started Selling on eBay
If you're only selling one or two items on email, you may not need a lot of equipment. If your goal is to become a serious eBayer, here's what you'll need:
A camera
A computer
A printer and labels
Tape
Boxes
Mailers
Packing material
Scissors
Cleaning equipment
Measuring tape
Scale, and
Storage equipment
Camera
You won't need anything expensive. In fact, a smartphone that was made within the past couple of years should be fine. You can use a high-quality camera, but using a different camera from your phone will add additional steps to the process. You just want the pictures to show the item as it looks in real life.
When you take pictures with a camera that isn’t your phone, you’ll have to upload them to your computer and add them to the listing from there. When you take the pictures on your smartphone, you’ll be able to upload them directly from it, and that will save time. I use the free Google Photos app to back up my photos in case something were to happen to them.
Computer
You don’t need a computer to list your items, but eBay is an old website, and some of the features are only available through the desktop browser version. For instance, to make any changes to your account, you’ll need to access eBay on a computer.
It’s also easier to make bulk edits to your listings by going through the eBay seller hub in the browser version. Sometimes, you’ll need to send the customer an invoice, and that can only be done on the eBay website. Any computer with an internet connection will do.
Printer and Labels
If you’ve already got a printer, you don’t necessarily need to buy another. I recently purchased a laser printer at a yard sale because laser printers give you a lot more prints per cartridge vs. inkjet. Switching from an inkjet to a laser printer will save you money over time. If you are going to stick with an inkjet, buy your cartridges refurbished on eBay, and you’ll save a lot of money.
You don’t have to buy shipping labels when you’re just starting out, but they will save you time when you start selling a lot. I started just using printer paper, and it was taking me extra time to take scissors and cut the label out and tape them to the packages. I bought 1,000 sticker labels for less than $30 on eBay, and now I can just print off the labels and stick them right to the package without using any tape.
Another tip is to set it not to print the shipping receipt when you print the label. This uses up more paper/extra labels and is redundant because the receipt is emailed to you.
There might be times when you need to print an extra label because you lost the first label, or it was damaged somehow. You can get another label by going to your eBay seller hub and clicking shipping labels in the drop-down menu, then finding the label, voiding it, and printing another. Doing this prevents you from being charged for two labels.
Tape
You’ll be using a lot of packing tape, so buying in bulk is the cheapest option. You don’t necessarily want to purchase the most inexpensive tape you find. Having nice and sturdy tape will ensure the package is more secure, and you won’t have to worry about the tape coming unstuck. It’s also a good idea to invest in a high-quality tape gun. I found one used on eBay for half the price it would cost to buy one new.
Boxes
The types of boxes you use will depend on the type of shipping service you select. I choose to use shipping services that allow me to use my boxes – USPS Priority Mail and USPS First Class Package. I go around to retail stores and see if they have any they can give me. A lot of times, you can go behind the stores, and there will be a bunch of boxes next to the dumpster. You shouldn’t ever have to pay for a box if you use your own packaging.
Another option for boxes is to use the free, flat rate boxes provided by USPS. These boxes require you to use the shipping services specific to the box, and if you have large items, there might not be a box big enough. The only time that these free boxes are a better option than using your own packaging is if you’ve got a smaller item that weighs a lot. Since it’s a flat rate, you won’t be charged any more for a 10-pound item than you would be for a 2-pound item.
Poly Mailers and Bubble Mailers
These are the only types of packages I purchase. There’s a multitude of different sizes you can choose from, but typical sizes are 6”×9”, 9”×12”, 14”×17” and 19”×24”. You don’t have to buy all the sizes when you’re starting. Just purchase the sizes that work best with the types of items you sell.
The difference in bubble mailers and poly mailers is that bubble mailers provide a little bit of padding. If you’re selling something hard that you aren’t worried about breaking, bubble mailers should work perfectly. I use poly mailers for all of my clothing sales, as well as anything that is made out of cloth.
Packing Materials
If you’re selling fragile items, bubble wrap, packing peanuts, and paper will be your best friends. I save any packing material I get from purchases I make and let friends and family know I’ll take anything they got. It’s worth purchasing this stuff if you can’t get it for free. Items breaking during shipping is the worst.
Scissors and Razor Knife
You’ll find yourself needing to cut things all the time, and a good pair of scissors is essential. Razor knives come in handy when you need to resize a box. Sometimes, you’ll need to ship something, but all of your boxes will be way too big. You don’t want to waste packing material just to fill empty space in a box.
You can easily resize a box by setting the sold item in it, taking a razor knife, and cutting corners all the way through down to a little bit above the item. Then, you take the edge and lightly drag it horizontally across the box at the level where you cut the corners down to. This scores the box, and you’ll be able to fold it down to a tighter fit.
They make box resizers for this specific purpose, but you can actually make your own for a couple of dollars if you don’t feel comfortable using the razor knife to score the box with (video below).
youtube
Cleaning Equipment
A lot of times, you’ll find something cool, but it’s filthy. Part of the fun of selling on eBay is taking something that has been forgotten about and cleaning it up to give it new life. Cleaning dust off your items will probably be the most common form of cleaning you do. A good dust rag and feather duster are great things to keep around.
If you’re buying used shoes, getting a horsehair brush might be a good investment. Most of the shoes I get, I’m able to clean with a wet rag. Goo Gone and a Scotty peeler will come in handy for getting sticky labels off things.
Measuring Tape
Some type of measuring tape is essential. You’ll need to put in your box measurements when you’re listing your items. It’s also a good practice to include measurements of your items in your listings. People may not be able to tell how big an article is just by looking at the pictures. If you’re going to sell clothes, you’ll need to include the measurements in the listing for sure.
Small Scale
You can get a good scale that weighs things from 1oz to 60lbs for a reasonable price on eBay. Having accurate weights on the items you list is a critical part of factoring how much the shipping will cost. Always add a couple of ounces for the box and any packing material you might pack the item with.
Storage Equipment
Once you start shopping for items to sell, you may be surprised how much stuff you start buying. Your storage space will fill up quickly! Having sturdy shelves and some storage containers will help you stay organized.
I was able to find someone giving away some shelves, so I didn’t have to pay anything for them. Check places like Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace, and you may be able to get shelving for free or cheap.
Creating eBay and PayPal accounts
You’ll need an eBay and PayPal account to sell on the platform. It’s been announced that eBay is moving away from PayPal, but for the time being, PayPal is still what the majority of eBay sellers use to process payments. You can choose only to accept credit/debit cards as forms of payment, but this will reduce the number of people that will be willing to buy from you.
You don’t need a business account with PayPal to sell on eBay. A personal account will work fine. You’ll just need to add a bank account to PayPal so you can transfer the money you receive to your bank.
I suggest creating a separate bank account just for your eBay business because this makes things simpler. When you have a designated bank account for eBay, you can use it for all of your expenses and be able to track your income and outflow much easier.
Finding Items to Sell
There are millions, if not billions, of different things that are sold on eBay each week. From thimbles to pickup trucks, you can buy and sell just about anything. There are some exceptions, though.
While you may find almost anything under the sun listed on eBay, that doesn’t always mean it will sell. A good rule of thumb is to search for an item you’re interested in and then set the filter to “sold.” This will show you if the item has sold recently, and you’ll be able to see what it sold for.
What Items Sell
When you’re just starting, one of the more popular categories to sell in is clothing. Clothing is good because you can find it all over the place for cheap, and you don’t have to worry about it breaking in shipping.
Here are ten men’s clothing brands that sell for good money on eBay:
Tommy Bahama
Harley Davidson
Filson
Affliction
Orvis
Brooks Brothers
Lacoste
Hugo Boss
Tommy Hilfiger
Burberry
Here are ten women’s clothing brands that sell:
Eileen Fisher
Lulu Lemon
Free People
Dale of Norway
Diane Von Furstenberg
Victoria's Secret
Michael Kors
Tory Burch
Burberry
St. John
And that’s not even scratching the surface on just ONE category you can sell in! Other useful items are vintage/antique items, video games, vintage electronics, collectibles, art, jewelry, fabrics like curtains and sheets, Computer accessories, vintage perfume/cologne, rare mugs/kitchenware, appliance parts… It would take me months to write out all the categories to sell in.
Basically, if you’re out shopping and something catches your eye, look it up and see what it’s selling for. You can also find all kinds of useful videos on YouTube and blog series that shows what sells on eBay.
Where to Find Items
The types of items you’ll find depends on where you’re able to get your items from. Pretty much anywhere in the U.S. should have at least one good place you can find items for cheap within an hour's drive of your house.
Yard Sales
My favorite place to find items is yard sales. Most of the time, people are just wanting to get rid of their stuff and will be thrilled when you show up with a pocket full of cash.
Apps like Yard Sale Treasure Map make it easy to find yard sales, but most of the time, you’ll just need to drive around and look for signs. If you’ve got an area near you with a lot of houses, that will probably be the best place to look for yard sales.
It’s good to be friendly with the people who are hosting the sales because they’ll be more likely to give you deals. It might be hard to look up items on your phone when you’re standing right in front of someone, so sometimes you’ll just have to decide if you want to buy an item without knowing if it’s worth anything.
Another thing to do is ask the seller if they have anything else for sale. They might take you into their attic and have all kinds of valuable stuff that they didn’t feel like pulling out.
Thrift Stores
My second favorite place to buy things is local thrift stores. I don’t like Goodwill very much because they seem to be expensive. Small independent stores, usually run by a church or nonprofit organization, are better. I rarely leave a thrift store without a handful of stuff that I can make a nice profit on.
If you’ve got one near you, Goodwill outlets are much better than the Goodwill retail stores. They usually price items by the pound, and lots of people get their entire eBay inventory from these outlets.
Estate Sales
Estate sales are great places to find things, but sometimes the estate sale companies try to charge an arm and a leg for stuff. You have to be selective with what you buy, but I can usually find something I can make good money on at each sale I go to. EstateSales.net is a great way to find estate sales in your area.
Auctions
Auctions are a great place to find cool items. A lot of times, you can buy a whole table full of stuff for cheap and make serious money on the things you get. Most of the time, auctions are an all-day event, so you’ll have to have an open schedule to go to one.
Flea Markets
If you’ve got a flea market near you, you’ll want to go to it to find items! Flea markets are kind of like a place where you go to have a yard sale away from your house. A lot of the people that sell at flea markets are there every week with new items. I don’t know why the people selling there don’t choose to sell their stuff on eBay, but you can buy their stuff and sell it for more!
eBay
Yes, believe it or not, you can buy items on eBay and resell them for more on eBay. Sometimes a seller will have something listed for a low auction price, and you’ll be the only one to find the listing. The more common way to buy things for cheap on eBay is to buy lots of stuff together and then piece them out and sell them separately. eBay isn’t the best place to find things for cheap, but it’s a way to get items without having to go anywhere physically.
Other Online Marketplaces
Sometimes, you can find things for cheap or even free on places like Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace. There are a couple of other favorite selling apps like LetGo and OfferUp that are similar to Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace.
What Does it Cost to Sell on eBay?
There are a few different fees you can be hit with when selling on eBay. There are insertion fees, final value fees, subscription fees, and PayPal fees. If you’re paying for a store subscription, you shouldn’t have to pay any insertion fees if you’re sticking to the subscription guidelines.
Final value fees are the most considerable expense and are usually around 10% of what your item sells for. PayPal takes about 3% of the sales, so you’re looking at paying about 15% of the price your item sells for the total. If you charge for shipping, eBay charges a final value fee on shipping, but they give you a shipping discount, so that should cover the cost.
Listing the Items
Now you’ve got your equipment ready to go, your eBay and PayPal account setup, and an item to sell. It’s time to start listing! Listing is the most time-consuming part of the process, but don’t let that stop you. You can’t sell anything if you don’t list, so the more work you put in, the more money you’ll make.
Should You List on Your Phone or a Computer?
Do whatever works best for you, I do my entire listings on my phone. It’s easier to type out descriptions on the computer keyboard, but it would take me more time to do part of the listing on my phone and then switch to my computer. I like listing on my phone because I can take pictures and instantly upload them through the eBay app.
Search for the Item on eBay
The quickest way to start a listing is to search for the item on eBay and set the filter to “sold.” If you’re able to find a sold listing of the item you want to list, you can click on it and scroll down on the page until you see a button that says, “Sell one like this.” I like doing this because I know that someone was able to get the listing sold using the title and information they provided in the listing.
If you can’t find your item in the “sold” filter, turn the filter off and see if there are any active listings of it. If there is, you can click on it and hit the same “sell one like this button.” When you use the “sell one like this” function, it will automatically pull a lot of information into the listing for you. You’ll still have to upload your pictures, but the item specifics should already be filled out.
If you can’t find the item you want to sell anywhere on eBay, you’ll have to start a listing from scratch. You might be able to find more information by searching on google. Sometimes you’ll find old pages with information about the item. I’ve found the quickest way to find an item on google is to search google images.
Write a Great Title
The title is one of the essential parts of the listing. 99.99% of the time, people are going to find your item by searching eBay with a particular phrase. You need to fill out the title with as much relevant information as you can think of. I try to completely fill the title character limit with every listing I post.
Here’s a title of something I recently sold:
“VTG Gatorade Duffle Bag Green Orange 19″ x 10″ Gym Tote Zipper Blue Handles.”
VTG stands for vintage. You’ll find there are a few acronyms like NOS (new old stock) and EUC (excellent used condition). I’m not sure how much using these acronyms helps with making sales, but I try to use them when I can.
For something to be vintage, it has to be 20 years old or older. For something to be an antique, it has to be 100 years old or older. If I can’t think of enough words to put in the title and it’s a vintage item, I’ll just write the word “vintage” instead of using the acronym VTG.
Selecting the Right Category
Making sure you’re listing is in the right category is critical. If you’re selling a vintage coffee mug, and the category is women’s shoes, you’re not going to get as many views on the listing. You’ll have to pay attention to the category when you use the “sell one like this” option on preexisting listings. Sometimes, the category won’t be correct, and you’ll need to change it.
Selecting the Item Condition
Depending on the category, you’ll have the option to list your item as new with tags, new without tags, new other and preowned. These options are self-explanatory, but the one you might be wondering about is the new other. New other means an item is new and has never been used but may have defects of some kind.
Taking Photos
Other than the title, I’d say photos are the most crucial part of the listing. A lot of times, people won’t read the title or the description and just purchase the item based on the picture. They may not even click on the images to look at more than the main one. I’ve had people complaining about an item they purchased when I clearly stated the issue they’re complaining about in the title and description.
You can go a little overboard when it comes to taking photos. The better your photos are, the more likely your item will sell, but you’ll need to portray the item as realistically as possible. If the article looks much better in the pictures than it does in real life, you’re probably going to hear about it when the customer gets it.
The best practice for taking photos is to take them in natural lighting with a blank canvas as the background. Preferably, a white background, if you can come up with something. You get 12 free photos with your listings, and it’s a good idea to use all of them if you can.
Sometimes, I don’t use all 12 photo slots because I don’t feel like it’s necessary to depict everything about the item. You’ll want to take clear pictures of any defects the object might have so the buyer knows what they’re buying.
Item Specifics
The item specifics section is where you’ll put all the specific details about the item. You don’t have to fill out every section of this, just put enough information, so the buyer has a good idea of the details.
Writing the Description
The description is where you’ll put any information about the item that you weren’t able to provide in the item specifics. You don’t need to write an entire story in the description, just put as much information about the item to explain it well and list any defects. Most of the time, my descriptions are only a couple of sentences long.
I don’t think people spend much time reading the description, buts it’s vital to put details in it in case a buyer tries to say the item was not as described.
Selling Format
Deciding if you should sell your item as buy it now or auction is one of the most common questions I see with new sellers. I’d say 99% of the time; I list my items as buy it now with the best offer option on.
The reason I sell my items as buy it now is that most of the time, you will only get one bid on the item when you list it as an auction. There are some cases where you’ll have a bidding war, but those are becoming more and rarer. Most people want to be able to purchase the item as soon as they see it.
I like listing my buy it now items with the best offer option because I usually have a considerable profit margin in the listing and the item will sell quicker when people can make offers. The buyer will feel like you’re giving them a great deal, and you’ll be making money quicker.
If I search for an item and notice that almost all the solds have sold as an auction, I’ll list my item as an auction. For some reason, certain items sell better in an auction format. You’ll just have to do your due diligence and decide for yourself.
I also like selling as buy it now because the item will automatically be relisted every 30 days if it doesn’t sell. That allows me not to have to worry about checking my listings constantly to see if there are items that need to be relisted. eBay recently made all of the buys it now listings set to “good til canceled,” so that means your listings will relist until you stop the listing or the item sells.
Setting the Price
If you’ve decided to list your item as an auction, make sure you list it at a price at which you’re comfortable with it selling. Don’t be surprised if you list something worth $100, and it only sells for $1 if that’s what you start the bid at.
If you list the item as buy it now and were able to find previous listings where the item sold, whatever it sold for is probably what you can expect to get for it. This isn't always the case, though. Sometimes people underprice their items, so if you know an item is worth more than what you see it has sold for, list it at the price you think it’s worth and choose the best offer option.
I like to list my items at a high price since I have the best offer option on. People aren’t afraid to send low ball offers, so having a higher price will help you sell your items for more money. Sometimes, you just have to be patient until the right buyer comes along and pays what the article is worth.
Payment Options
If you’re using PayPal as your payment option (and I suggest you do), you’ll need to have the email address associated with your PayPal account as the payment option for your listing. You shouldn’t have to do this with every listing once you’ve got your PayPal and eBay accounts connected. It will automatically set the PayPal email address as your payment preference.
Return Options
To become a top-rated seller, you will need to offer free returns on your listings. Free returns mean that you will have to pay for return shipping if the buyer decides to return the item. I have my return policy set to 30 days after the buyer has made the purchase.
Offering free returns is a pain, but you most likely won’t get a ton of returns if you list your items as best you can.
Shipping Details
I keep things simple when it comes to shipping. I always charge the buyer for shipping, and I only use two shipping services for all my listings. If an item is under a pound, I use USPS First Class Package. If it weighs more than a pound, I use USPS Priority Mail. These two options allow me to use any package I want, and they tend to be the cheapest option for the buyer.
On some items, you may find that you need to offer free shipping to be competitive with other sellers. Most sellers factor in shipping when they price their items with free shipping, so the buyer is always paying for shipping anyways.
For some reason, if an item is listed as $29.99 with free shipping, it will usually sell quicker than a listing for the same item at $19.99 with $9.99 shipping. Even though this is the case, I still don’t ever do free shipping as I know someone will eventually buy my item, and I’m able to keep my listing process simpler.
The reason my shipping process is so simple is that I use the calculated shipping option. eBay will automatically calculate the shipping cost, depending on the buyer’s location.
Having a short handling time will help you sell your items quicker. I have mine set to 1-day. Just make sure you’re able to get the item shipped in the handling time you have set, or you’ll get a defect on your account. Get too many defects, and you could end up as a below standard seller or even get banned.
Packing and Shipping Your Items
Not packing my items securely enough is one of the biggest mistakes I made when I first started selling on eBay. If you’re selling something fragile, like a mug, you’ll need to wrap it in bubble wrap and then fill in the box around it with either packing peanuts or paper. You don’t want your items to be able to slide around in the box as that will almost always ensure that it gets damaged.
If you’ve got any doubts if the item is secure enough, you probably haven’t packed it securely enough. Selling on eBay isn’t worth it if you don’t secure your items, and they break in shipping.
If you’re selling something heavy, it’s probably best to put the item in a box and then put that box inside a box then fill it with paper and bubble wrap. Double boxing heavy items is a great way to keep the items safe.
Combining Shipping
Every now and then, you’ll get a customer that buys multiple items from you at the same time. If they pay for all the items separately, then you’ll need to ship them separately. They may ask you to ship the items together to save on shipping costs.
If a buyer asks you to combine shipping, you’ll need to put the items together in a box and weigh it. Then, you can go to the USPS website and calculate the shipping costs. Once you know how much the shipping is going to cost, you can send the buyer an invoice for the total of the items plus the shipping amount.
Scheduling a Package Pickup
USPS provides a cool service where they’ll pick up your package right from your house (if the service is available in your area). To schedule a pickup, just go to this link and set it up. Not having to go to the post office every day saves me so much time and gas money!
Keeping Track of Your Numbers
Staying on top of your expenses and profits is essential to do for tax purposes. Whenever I buy something to sell, I immediately put a description of the item and what I paid for it into a google spreadsheet.
Once the item sells, I use Final Fee Calc to see what I’m going to profit. I punch in all of the numbers into my google sheet, and then I’m able to total everything up and see how I’m doing each month.
I also add any expenses (like packing supplies, ink, and eBay store subscription) to my monthly google sheet so I can get the true amount of what I’m profiting.
Keeping a simple spreadsheet like this will make it much easier when you go to do your taxes. I’m not a tax professional, so I won’t go into ways you can save on taxes, but it’s a good idea to find an accountant that can help you minimize taxes as much as possible.
Starting a Store Subscription
If you don’t have a store subscription, you’ll only be able to list 50 items a month for free. Any items you want to list after you reach 50 listings will cost somewhere around $.30 per listing. These fees can really add up quickly, so most serious sellers sign up for a store.
If you’re selling your items as buy it now, whenever the listings automatically relist, this will count towards your 50 free listings, so keep that in mind.
To sign up for a subscription, go to my eBay and click account. You’ll see a menu with a link titled “subscriptions.” Click on that link, and it will take you to a page where you can choose the store subscription you want. The eBay starter store is $4.95 a month, and you get 100 free listings per month.
There’s a subscription plan for stores of all sizes, and you can always upgrade your subscription as you go. I’m currently on the premium plan, which is $59.95 a month, and I get 1,000 free listings every month. You’ll also get other benefits from a store subscription, so be sure to read about them on the subscription page.
Building Your Reputation
Having a good reputation on eBay is crucial to your success as a seller. If you get too much bad feedback, you won’t sell as many items or could even end up getting banned from selling. If you follow the tips in this guide, getting negative feedback should be a rare occurrence for you.
Getting Positive Feedback When You’re Just Starting Out
One way to get positive feedback when you’re just starting is to buy some items on eBay using your seller account. The sellers will leave you positive feedback when you buy their articles, and that feedback will show up in your seller profile.
I wouldn’t worry too much about getting good feedback for every item you sell because most buyers aren’t going to leave anything. Obviously, the more positive feedback you have, the better, but I think a lot of people stress out about their profiles too much. When you get over 99% positive feedback, your feedback shouldn’t affect your sales.
When a buyer leaves you negative feedback without having a good reason to do so, call eBay and see if they can remove the feedback from your profile. If you haven’t done anything wrong, they should remove it for you.
Becoming a Top-Rated Seller
To become a top-rated seller, you’ll need to meet these requirements. When you’re a top-rated seller, you get a badge on your listings that makes you look more professional and a 10% discount on final value fees.
Dealing with Customer Issues
You’ll get difficult customers from time to time, and it’s just part of selling stuff online. If a customer is difficult and you haven’t done anything wrong, don’t hesitate to call eBay and explain what’s going on. A lot of times, they will take your side and be able to help you get the problem solved.
Pro tip – when you call eBay, it will be a recording. To speak with an actual human, just say “speak with a representative,” and it will direct your call to a person.
Unpaid Items
Unpaid item cases are probably the most common issue you will have with customers. For some reason, eBay doesn’t require the buyer to pay immediately for the item once they’ve purchased it.
You can ease the pain of unpaid item cases by turning on an unpaid item assistant. I’ve got my account set up to where unpaid item assistant opens a case after the buyer hasn’t paid for four days.
Once the case closes, it automatically relists the item, so I don’t have to do that myself. You can set up an unpaid item assistant on your account by going to my eBay and click the account, then go to site preferences.
Blocking Customers
If you get a customer that’s just being ridiculous, you can block them. To block someone, go to my eBay, account, site preferences and scroll down to buyer requirements and click edit. You’ll see a link that says “blocked list.” Click on this link and add the buyer to the list. This will stop them from being able to buy anything from you or contact you.
Organizing your inventory
You don’t have to organize your inventory, but it will make things easier and will save you time. If you come up with an organization strategy when you’re just starting, it will be easier on you than when you’ve got a big inventory and try to set up a system. Here’s a useful guide on organizing your inventory.
Taking Time Off
Once you get your eBay business off the ground, you’ll eventually want or need to take breaks from time to time. The good news? You can take time off and STILL SELL STUFF! I’ve heard of people taking a couple of months off at a time and still selling a lot of things during their time off. All you have to do is set the handling time to however long you’re going to be away for.
To change handling time on all your listings, go to my eBay – selling and then click on active listings. From there, click edit all listings, and you’ll be taken to the bulk listing editor. From there, you can make all kinds of changes to your listings. You’ll just need to change the handling time on everything and then submit the changes.
Your eBay store will still stay open, and people will still be able to buy things while you’re gone. You’ll just need to message the buyers and let them know you won’t be able to ship the item until you get back. Some buyers might decide they don’t want the item anymore, and some will be fine with waiting. When you get back, you’ll need to change the handling time back to a short amount of time so you can stay a top-rated seller.
And that should cover everything you need to be a successful eBay seller. I hope this guide was helpful!

A House Decorated by Marketplace – and Tips for Thrifting
Of all the bad things to come out of Facebook – the creepy harvesting of our online data, a rise in loneliness, infidelities kindled from long-lost acquaintances, the erosion of individual self-worth through unfavourable comparison, to name just a few – there are also a lot of good things. For example, I re-met my now-husband through Facebook… something I like to remind him of every so often, that lucky guy. And I’m also going to add that the fairly recent invention of Marketplace is another one of those good things to come out of Facebook.
Furniture, homewares, rugs, plants and art… these are the kinds of things being sold on Facebook Marketplace that are often super CHEAP, my friends. Often it’s sold by people who just want to be rid of it, fast, and sometimes they don’t have a true understanding of the worth of what they are offering (I remember seeing a designer-name vintage sideboard marketed as “brown cupboard”).
Another bonus is that when you buy from a person on Facebook Marketplace, you can also see if you have mutual friends in common, thus reducing your chances (hopefully) of being murdered (“Yes, he has a teardrop tattoo and he’s holding a chainsaw in his profile pic, but he’s also friends with Julie from Baskin-Robbins”). In fact Marketplace has so many good things about it that I feel jealous of people moving house or getting a new place, like my sister, because they get to furnish and style their house in the Marketplace era. Like, I remember moving to this house, and looking at ads for secondhand dining tables after going to the newsagent and buying The QUOKKA. Yes, a physical copy of a classifieds ad newspaper, with tiny, succinctly written ads and no pictures, woaaah. Furnishing a home now that there is Marketplace is kind of like getting married but before there was Pinterest and after there was Pinterest, but better than that. I say this after spending pretty much TWO DAYS of my life making little white and milk chocolate milk balls with carefully affixed, painstakingly handmade customised chocolate wax seals for bonbonnieres, simply because I had seen a picture of them on Pinterest and I HAD TO RECREATE THEM, and I don’t think a single person at my wedding appreciated the sheer effort that had gone into these chocolate wax seal balls except my best friend from high school who had flown in for our wedding from London, saw the different-coloured chocolate balls and shrieked, “Does no-one notice that these chocolates have RACIAL CONNOTATIONS.” (This is why we are friends).
Anyway, many of my friends share my Marketplace and thrifting love – but I don’t know anyone more enthusiastic about it than my friend Nelly Reffet of Twinkle and Whistle Interior Design. (In fact, we put together this post on our fave Marketplace finds a while back). Recently Nelly shared photos of this Perth house with me – one I instantly dubbed The Marketplace House, because she and the owners styled it to sell using a LOT of thrifted Marketplace finds. And look how inviting it looks!
RUG LOVING: The rug in the living area is a beautiful Persian-like wool rug, 3m x 2m. “It’s super plush and soft, in pristine condition and it cost $250 – normally it would retail in the thousands,” says Nelly. “It took forever to get though, as the seller was difficult to reach and spoke little English. But it made the purchase almost… exotic!”
Nelly met owners Mark and Jasmin back in 2009, when they first asked Nelly for design help. Mark and Jasmin had recently bought their first home together, an ’80s house in East Cannington in need of a revamp. “Even back in those days, I loved their appetite for non-beigey interiors, and the low budget considerations made me tap into some small but efficient creative tricks to make their house shine without blowing the budget,” says Nelly.
After a full reno and a fair bit of styling, Mark and Jasmin enjoyed many years of happy memories in their sweet light-filled home. However the desire to live closer to the ocean, so the kids (and the dogs!) could roam free on sandy beaches and everyone could enjoy cooler summers, led them to move out of their first home a few years ago.
Nelly’s daughter playing with Mark and Jasmin’s kids, now her friends.
“What was their sanctuary became a rental property, and with that came a few years of sometimes neglectful tenants and inevitable house mishaps,” says Nelly. “In order to simplify their life, Jasmin and Mark decided recently it was time to sell their beloved first home, but unfortunately, the property was not quite ready for it. A fair bit of work was required before the property could be advertised, and with a pretty gloomy-looking market in Perth, they decided to furnish and style the property to maximise its overall attractiveness.”
That was when Mark and Jasmin called Nelly to the rescue again. With a budget worn thin by essential maintenance and repair work, they could not quite invest in buying or hiring new furniture. “Instead, we decided to go in full shoestring mode and source pre-loved furniture and homeware to make their house shine again,” says Nelly. “With the exception of most linen pieces, which were purchased in store, and of some of the decorative items, which are from Mark and Jasmin’s personal collection, almost everything was gathered through Facebook Marketplace, and occasionally from the verge.”
I know some people will ask, why bother furnishing and styling the home at all? – and it’s not an unreasonable question. Well, home styling, or staging, as it’s called for the real estate market, is about presenting a home to its best – showing people how a house can be lived in; and trying to get them to form an emotional attachment to a home, ideally leading to a sale. Staged homes tend to sell faster (frequently in half the average time) – and for an estimated 7 to 12 percent more than unstyled homes, so the financial benefits can be worth the work and monetary investment put into the styling. And contrary to popular notion, good home staging doesn’t have to be expensive, or just for high-end homes – which is why Perth has seen a big boom in the past ten years in property staging businesses as well as interior designers that offer staging as a service.
Nelly says Jasmin and Mark wanted their house to stand out from an already saturated property market, and colour was one of the ways to go.
“In a very competitive market, we didn’t want another grey-on-grey-on-pastel-colours house,” she says.
“We wanted a place that would be warm and personal enough to feel like a home, but not too individual, as so not to be too personal.
“Many blogs out there and real estate agents too will advise you to remove all personal belongings and to go as neutral as possible to appeal to a wider audience. I beg to disagree with that, at least partially. If you keep a mostly neutral palette on your walls and floors (so potential buyers don’t have to do any work when they move in), you can still have a little bit of fun when styling by using bright or bolder removable items, such as soft furnishings and art.” And the scouring of Marketplace began, to give this modest yet pretty home a facelift.
LIVING ROOM: The yellow sofa and its matching ottoman were $250. “These were the first pieces we bought, and they became the driving factor for the living room design,” says Nelly. “The colour was a bold choice, but the shape is not bulky so the colour doesn’t overpower the room. All other pieces were picked with that yellow couch in mind, i.e. we wanted them to tone it down and let it shine at the same time: we didn’t want strong contrasting colours or too much harsh black or white. The neutrals soften it up, while the rug – because of its texture but also style and colour, grounds the room.”
NEW BED: “The upholstered queen bed in the master bedroom was totally brand new and sold at $250!” says Nelly.
Using Marketplace to style a house often means you need to allow a bit more time to put together than a traditional styling job would, says Nelly. “As you rely on what people put up for sale, it’s not as easy as driving to a showroom and helping yourself to what you like. You have to be patient to find the right piece, quick to contact the seller, and willing, sometimes, to travel a fair distance to collect your goods. You also don’t quite know the actual condition of the item until you see it, unless there are plenty of photos.”
Each item was carefully selected so it would fit the space well, both from a layout and a style perspective. As things tend to sell quickly on Marketplace, it was sometimes frustrating to miss out on a ‘perfect’ item. “But with the high turnover of the platform, we found alternatives within days, and sometimes hours,” says Nelly.
So is it all worth the effort and the risk? Mark and Jasmin felt the cost of the styling to be worth it. “They ended up spending just under $2,000 for styling their three bedroom house – a fraction of the cost of what new furniture would have been,” says Nelly. “Their biggest (unexpected) splurge was a $150 throw bought at Adairs, which was incorrectly placed on a “Sale” shelf… they only found that out at the time of paying, and by then, they liked the throw too much to put it back!” The house sold for $20k over the agent’s initial expectations, after only eight weeks on the market – which Mark and Jasmin considered a win in their suburb and in the current market.
At this point you might be thinking, ‘Ok, so they bought a lot of furniture and then what? They sell the house and they’re stuck with a bunch of stuff they don’t need?’ Two things. One, Mark and Jasmin bought things that they either hoped to use in their new home, or that they could easily re-sell, if required.
Their biggest win: a beautifully soft and plush large Persian rug in as new condition bought from Marketplace for $250. “It would retail at around $1000 at least new in-store,” says Nelly. “Jasmin is looking forward for the house to sell, so she can bring the rug to their home pronto.
“That is one of the advantages of buying second-hand items instead of hiring furniture: the items belong to you! You are free to do what you want with them once the house has sold: sell them again or bring them home.
“Similarly, if the house doesn’t sell in the expected timeframe, you don’t need to extend a hiring contract and incur additional expenses either. It’s maximum flexibility at a limited cost.”
MORE MARKETPLACE: The grey couch was only $180, and was from just around the corner.
BEFORE. The dining room got a small facelift with a light change.
AFTER
So, if you are thinking of selling your house soon – or even if you just want to revamp your home a little – don’t hesitate to explore Marketplace instead of hitting the shops, advises Nelly. “It can be a fun and rewarding ‘hunting and gathering’ experience, it treads lightly on our planet’s resources, you can find some unique pieces, and save some significant cash in the process. What’s not to love about that?” Maya x
NELLY’S TIPS FOR MARKETPLACE SUCCESS
1. Be reactive. If you see something you like, initiate contact with the seller fast! You can still sort out the logistics a little later. Great scores get snapped up very quickly on Marketplace so the faster you react, the more chances you have to secure the deal. Special brownie points if you offer to pick up immediately or on the day.
2. Be polite and personal. To make the buying process easier, Facebook has come up with default questions and messages you can send the sellers as a first contact. If you’re really keen on something, try not to use them. Even when communication is digital, being polite and addressing people personally often goes a long way. That doesn’t mean you have to tell your life story though, but starting your message with “Hi” and using the seller’s name may make you stand out in a sea of “Is it available?”
3. Read the ad in full. As a seller, it is infuriating to receive messages like “where are you located?” when the Marketplace ad clearly says so. Do you have time to answer questions that have already been addressed? I don’t. Most people don’t. Some ads are pretty short (or quasi-inexistent) and others more descriptive. The least you can do if you see an item you like is to read the ad in full and only ask questions that are essential and not already covered. Common sense, huh? But you’d be surprised how many people don’t go past the photo and headline!
4. Don’t mess with collection. Once again, speed is key on Marketplace. I do not encourage you to go beyond speed limits on the freeway to pick up your bargain, but you don’t want to mess around with collection. Ask the seller when it’s best for them or suggest a day and time, and stick to what’s agreed. If you don’t have a suitable car and struggle to ask a friend for their trailer or ute, hiring one is often inexpensive and fast. Or you could hire an Airtasker or other individuals who hustle as delivery drivers to do the heavy lifting for you.
5. Be open-minded and patient. The more specific you are, the more narrow your pool will be. So identify your essential criteria (for furniture, measurements are crucial!), and keep some flexibility for the rest, being brand or style, colours or materials.
6. Be patient! The beauty of Marketplace is that it is a big cycle that moves fast. People buy and sell all the time. You just have to be there when opportunity knocks at your digital door.
7. Be safe. Give someone the details of where you are going and when, and ideally bring a friend or your partner to do pick up with you if you’re feeling unsure, especially at night.
