looked at a fic that was a [very-close-to] canon rewrite except that it was 99% cisswap, but like. almost entirely unadulterated and
Peter and Verona Dursley automatically become something Very Different from canon, something dare I say, far more interesting, when there's a househusband, and a woman executive as well, involved (but this isn't interrogated, seemingly at all, in the text.) Like! Dian(e/a? I forget) and Verona? They could have Hairspray moments! even though Verona is necessarily very different in inclinations than Edna
also Professor Prince, that CHANGES the dynamic hugely very much. (i didn't read all of the relevant parts but.) It's implausible socially that, say, Ethan Prince could be economically dependent on Tabitha Snape Prince, which of course doesn't actually rule out an abusive dynamic but wow wow. Then instead of the interesting queercoded boy taking after the distaff side you have this dad's girl dynamic, probably? Oof her and (i forget what this person called Peter's brother) is. That's... asdfsfdg...
because you also get the Marauders and also eventually Jane Potter is this privileged jerk of a girl who is willing to, to take on the name of this Muggleborn guy. But before that it's going to be...just. Wow. Girls bonding but also *headdesk* Prince EXCEPT also now she doesn't have quite the same cloud of "but I'm a halfblood" bc: "Prince"
but the thing is--the one neglected character swapwise (Dumbledore even!) is Voldemort and that would be...That would also be hugely interesting, hugely! It would be hard for the story to give Morian(?) Gaunt the same allowance for using a love potion and what the heck does Tamsyn Riddle Sr. do about having a baby. And just... up to the point of the Moaning Martyn incident... when Hagrid is also a woman and THAT has a potential to alter dynamics given the setting...???
Though this also reminds me of what I was thinking the other day about how there's (out of 3-4 major character datapoints and idk I don't care about canon enough but I get the impression McGonagall and Lupin might qualify for the you-escaped-these-issues and so you're good.)...
some bias in the series against a) poor halfbloods where b) a witch mother had them with a Muggle father.
