#I’d say 75% of the actors we hire barely know how to use a computer

The way Sam analyzes the show and talks about the characters is insightful to me in a way that feels "smart", but I don't necessarily know how to define emotionally intelligent and thoughtful vs smart. Plenty of people can be smart without being especially intellectual or academic in their focus. So without knowing more about Sam, I'd say that he certainly seems really intelligent, but again, I don't know how you define smart, thoughtful, intelligent, etc., and we could all be using different terms to mean the same thing. People who've worked with Sam talk about how smart and analytical he is, so there's that. I do think most really excellent actors, in my experience, seem to be intelligent and thoughtful people, though again, that can be very different from intellectual.
But yes he does seem quite literal about some thing in a way that suggests I would love to be in a bookclub analyzing characters with him, not so much in any situation where he was in charge of logistics.

I think he's like, Actor Smart, which is - -
Okay, an example, there's a local theatre actress here who I work with a bit who is probably one of my favourite actresses period. I think she is so, so talented, and brings such emotional depth to her performances and when she talks about her work, and the plays that she's in, she speaks with so much eloquence and emotional intelligence and nuanced understanding of the character, that I could honestly hear her talk about them all day.
I also spent more than a hour last year trying to show her how to use the (very basic!) photocopier in our office so that she could photocopy a part of a script, and not only could she not wrap her head around it, she started having what I'm pretty sure was a panic attack over having to use it, so needless to say, I do all her copying for her now, haha.
That's.....actually pretty common in my experience with actors, especially actors who've never really had another job.
#I’d say 75% of the actors we hire barely know how to use a computer#but anyway Sam’s said a few things though that make me think his scope of knowledge is#let’s say extremely specific haha#but again that’s not uncommon with actors#I love him but I did side eye him a bit on the newsreader panel I saw him on where he said he didn’t watch the news#and he was clearly a little lost when the interviewer asked the (great!) question of what event in history out of the time period#of the show that they think would’ve been fun for the characters to cover#although to be fair that probably would be a hard question to get on the spot haha#(I do agree that he comes off as naive about particular topics in that sense though)#but again#he’s an actor#his job is to be tunnel visioned about a character haha#Sam asks
