A lot of the time, posts like these come from people trying to protect marginalized voices 🖤—but they can end up flattening people in the process. People with complex identities.

People doing their best to create something meaningful without turning it into a political performance. You’re allowed to write. You’re allowed to take up space. You’re allowed to do so without pre-clearing your ideas with fandom gatekeepers. The idea that you need some kind of external permission or committee approval to exist in that creative space? That’s what’s so deeply unsettling and honestly harmful about the way some of this discourse plays out.

I say this as someone who's old, world-weary, and tired, y’all. I've seen this fandom ouroboros before—and don't you let it steal your joy for making things.

Keep it real, keep it honest—and you’ll be fine.

if you’re a white creator and your brown/black characters are always sassy, reckless, aggressive or cold and your white characters are always soft, demure, shy and introverted you should think about maybe why you did that

As someone who has been the only poc in many primarily white spaces I often get asked "How do we get more poc to join us?" Which is kinda a fucked thing to ask and place the burden of figuring out on some random colored in your group but like lucky them I am actually passionate about increasing diversity in all spaces. So I see a bunch of people asking "what can we do about tumblr being so overwhelmingly white?" Of course just like in those other spaces they're placing the burden on others to figure out but let's discuss it.

Just inviting poc to join is not enough, they left for a reason. What needs to be done is fostering an environment that actually feels safe and inviting for those from ethnic and racial minorities. For starters, you see that post by, for, or about poc? You don't need to respond with some manner of "I'm white but..." Also show interest in cultures that aren't your own without prefacing it with how white you are.

Stop being condecending, holy shit the attitude of some of the people here reminds me of every white kid at my old pwi the way you look down on other people who don't have access to the same information you do. Uplift and share around the actual voices of poc on here, and not just on posts about racial justice but just in general. If we feel seen we're more likely not to leave and new poc joining the site won't feel as isolated

Stop being weird about random poc, if you find yourself commenting on a picture of a black woman, stop for a moment and ask yourself "would I use these words for a white woman? does it feel dehumanizing or objectifying?" (Y'all can be so weird about hot black people)

Seriously stop talking about how white you are, idc if you're trying to prove you're "one of the good ones"

Don't use racism as a " gotcha" when youre having your online arguments. It shows how little you actually care about racism as a societal force and you just treat it like a buzzword to shut up the other white people here

Make friends with poc, not just on here but like everywhere in your life that you can. So many people on here don't have any friends who are poc. I get it, maybe you grew up in a bougie white neighborhood where the only poc you saw where the landscaper but like its 2025, there is no longer any excuse. Go talk to people online, I am sure that whatever your interests are there's some poc out there who shares them (and this doesn't mean go seek out poc as your token friend, it means when you do meet poc online treat them with respect and dignity and maybe they'll give you the honor of being your friend

Lastly, care. Care about poc. Care about our pain and struggles. Care about things you have never and will never experience. Care about those victims of police brutality, of genocide, the people being thrown in fucking concentration camps and being ripped away from their families. Show compassion because those are not random hypothetical people, those are the people of color you're asking to join this site.

i feel like people are skimming over the uk riots in a way that makes me want to tear my hair out. muslims in the uk are in active danger. immigrants in the uk are in active danger. refugees in the uk are in active danger. people of colour in the uk are in active danger. asian communities in the uk are in active danger. black communities in the uk are in active danger.

there are massive far right riots throughout the country right now and people like fucking elon musk and nigel farage are inciting it and still have a platform to speak. people have used three young girls deaths, people's genuine grief in southport, to try and gain traction for their own racist bullshit and it's working.

a lot of refugee charities have been forced to close leaving many people without support, homes, funding, food, etc. if you aren't able to donate please consider sending a message via the conversation over borders campaign! it will send a hopeful, welcoming letter to a refugee in the uk. there is also a guide to staying safe here.

please do your own research and donate to refugee charities, anti-islamophobia charities, mosques who are trying to rebuild after being destroyed, counter protesters, here are some i've heard positive things about but the list is extensive; southport strong together (support for the southport victims and their families), southport mosque rebuilding, riot repair fund, middlesbrough vulnerable residents, nasir mosque rebuilding, hull help for refugees, bristol welcomes migrants,

i see a lot of neurodivergent people talk about how they can't handle bright white overhead lighting at home, so their preference is to have warm/yellow bulbs in lamps as the main source of household lighting, often with colouful neon lights/fairylights/candles as other secondary lighting sources. So. I don't mean to offend anybody but Rachel Zegler is courageous and brave in a way that I'm not sure I would be at 23 years old with my career on the line. She tweeted 'Free Palestine' on her personal account and now she is being blamed/made the scapegoat for why the Snow White movie is not doing as well as Disney predicted.

For context: Gal Gadot (of "let's sing 'Imagine' to healthworkers-fame and 'I'm proud to have served in the 1DF' fame) plays the evil Queen.

Also for context: the producer, Marc Platt, flew across the country to reprimand a 23 year old for making said tweet. He asked her to delete it. She did not. Now Marc's son has taken to social media to "expose" Rachel's selfishness. They strongly believe her tweet is hurting the box office and jobs. The movie is done. There are no more jobs or employment. Producers get a cut from box office earnings. So all they really had to say was, "Rachel's tweet is costing my father and my family money! Take it down!"

Anyways. She didn't. And hasn't.

I think if you're a white trans woman and you're citing statistics about trans women being murdered to prove our oppression, you really need to bring up that the vast majority of murdered trans women in America are black. I think if you leave that detail out you are kind of doing the exact same thing as the people you're arguing with.

If you don't think about those stats and what they mean, you need to fix that.
