Inside EBU's Production Technology Seminar 2025: A Convergence of Innovation and Practicality
Walking through the corridors of the European Broadcasting Union's Production Technology Seminar in Geneva this January, the atmosphere was palpable with anticipation. As a veteran of countless industry gatherings, this year's PTS stood out for its singular focus and forward momentum.
Media Production's Evolution
The opening presentations crystallized a crucial message: our industry stands at a transformative crossroads. The highlight was France TV's technical strategy presentation, which demonstrated how traditional broadcasters can successfully embrace innovation while preserving their core strengths in broadcasting excellence.
Remote Production Comes of Age
The technical sessions on remote production proved invaluable, particularly the deep dives into ST2110 implementation. These discussions transcended theoretical frameworks, offering concrete solutions for latency and bandwidth optimization challenges. What's remarkable is how remote production has transformed from a pandemic necessity into a strategic advantage, with case studies demonstrating both cost efficiencies and enhanced production flexibility.
Navigating Cloud Integration
Cloud-focused sessions drew the largest crowds, reflecting the technology's growing sophistication. Particularly refreshing was the candid discussion about cost management – an aspect often overlooked in vendor presentations. The session "The right cloud strategy for PSM" provided valuable frameworks for determining which workflows belong in the cloud versus on-premise, acknowledging that cloud solutions aren't universally applicable.
AI's Practical Revolution
The AI sessions showcased the transition from theoretical possibilities to practical applications. The "AutoCut" presentation for news editing demonstrated AI's potential to revolutionize daily operations while maintaining editorial standards. The discussions emphasized AI's role as a complement to human creativity rather than a replacement – a perspective that resonated strongly with attendees.
TVU Networks' Technical Innovation
A standout session came from TVU Networks, showcasing their advances in IP streaming technology. Their demonstration achieved sub-second latency while maintaining broadcast quality, even under challenging network conditions. The presentation stood out for its comprehensive approach to real-world implementation, addressing crucial issues like network fluctuation and bandwidth management.
The subsequent Q&A provided valuable insights into implementation challenges and system limitations, with the kind of transparency that technical professionals appreciate. Their cloud integration strategy revealed a sophisticated understanding of hybrid workflows, acknowledging the industry's need for both cloud and on-premise solutions.
The Multiscreen Evolution
Sessions focusing on new formats and devices provided fresh insights into evolving viewing habits. Particularly compelling were the data-driven presentations on cross-device viewing patterns, which challenged conventional wisdom about content consumption. The demonstrations of interactive and immersive content suggested we're approaching a breakthrough moment for mainstream VR and AR applications.
Security in the Age of Deepfakes
Security and content authentication emerged as critical themes, reflecting growing concerns about deepfakes and content integrity. The presentations on verification tools and fact-checking systems demonstrated the industry's evolving response to these challenges, balancing robust security with operational efficiency.
Charting the Future
The seminar revealed a maturing industry approach to technological innovation. Rather than pursuing every new trend, the focus has shifted to sustainable innovation that delivers tangible value. Speakers consistently addressed practical implementation challenges across cloud migration, AI integration, and remote production.
Concluding Insights
PTS 2025 illustrated that while our industry faces significant challenges, we're better equipped than ever to address them. The level of technical discourse and knowledge sharing suggested a move beyond hype to sustainable innovation.
Most impressive was the balance between ambition and pragmatism. While cutting-edge technologies were showcased, they were always presented with careful consideration of practical implementation and real-world constraints. This blend of innovative vision and practical expertise positions our industry well for future challenges.
Departing Geneva, the future of media production seemed bright. While significant challenges lie ahead, the collaborative spirit and technical expertise demonstrated at PTS 2025 indicate we're well-prepared to meet them. The future of broadcasting isn't just about adopting new technologies – it's about leveraging them thoughtfully to create more engaging content while maintaining the high standards audiences expect.

Listen listen to me, the fact that you could take a game like borderlands and make a point and click adventure out of it and have that point and click adventure go on to not only be critically acclaimed and beloved but ALSO introduce an entire new group of people to the franchise who otherwise would not have given it a second look PROVES definitively that there's potential in the world building and narrative for genuine story telling that doesn't need the structure of a looter shooter to support interest in it AND doesn't require prior knowledge of the franchise to be enjoyable. There is already story potential in the canon to make works that people will care about. The failure of the borderlands movie was not inevitable, they could have made something really good if they just approached it from an angle that acknowledges this is a world that already exists and is beloved instead of throwing it all away to make a completely different story in the most lazy and uninspired way possible with so little attention to detail that they forget by the end of the movie that they've never used the word "Siren" throughout the entire movie so Tannis calls Lilith a siren at the very end of the movie with absolutely zero context or explanation. Your movie looks like it was made by AI in the worst possible way because it looks like nobody involved gave a shit about what they were making and it didn't deserve that.
#borderlands#this is a stream of consciousness#i know tumblr has moved on because joker and minecraft movie we have new things to complain about based on more popular IPs but#BUT IM NOT DONE BEING MAD ABOUT THIS ONE

“You have a pool in your basement?” Roy asked, aghast. Iono looked back to him with a satisfied smirk. “Yep! Pretty cool, right? It used to be in my backyard, but with all the wannabe paparazzos I figured that wasn’t the best idea anymore.” “Paparazzi are those guys that follow celebrities around to take their pictures and stuff, right?” Roy asked, glancing over at Liko and Dot. “They take pictures of you when you’re swimming?” “Pictures, videos . . .” Iono grimaced, and waved her sleeves as if to dispel the thought. “Eugh, but the worst was when I found that one weirdo in my bed. He was naked and everything! Total creepo alert!” Iono gave a full-bodied shudder, but then sighed and let her arms fall back to her sides. “Unfortunately, weirdos like that come with the stream scene. It’s why you’ve gotta keep your security stuff up to date. Right, Madame Dot?” Liko and Roy both looked to Dot, whose face was ashen. “I, uh . . . that . . . I haven’t . . .” “You will. It’s only a matter of time. But don’t worry! Big sis Iono will help you out!” Iono patted Dot’s shoulder. Dot didn’t look remotely comforted. “Lemme know when you wanna upgrade your security. I can get you a real good deal with the peeps who put in my fence and security cams!”
I bring a sort of "being a famous internet personality can actually be pretty dangerous" to the Pokéworld that Game Freak and Nintendo probably don't want to consider.

so is playing pso card game good? i always see you posting gifs from it and it makes me wanna try it but i am afraid.. tell me something more if you can? i always prefer oppinions about things from ppl who actually are fans..
ahhhhhhh is c.a.r.d. "good?" ........welllllll.......I'm gonna be so blunt with what I remember........back in the day......most PSO fans would say no, but I think this is mostly because it was so different.
I have a hyperfixation on the lore and connections of magic science and divine of the series, so this is all stuff I can put up with. BUT like there's some huge things I need to address rn too
As someone who confidently played Yugioh semi-competitively a few years back, I'm so ass at c.a.r.d. revolution it'll walk us right into my next point (I have a habit of over complicating every other card game tho ._.;)
late game gifs of the game are not my gameplay, but my favorite person's/partner's, via private stream (they knew I was recording/making gifs)
haven't seen end game of the Arkz side yet or all the character's stories
The issue with the game was watching them get soft locked for turns being unable to move for a sped up 20+ minutes just because "the cards don't play right". Map layout and double battles can increase the chances of this happening.
I find it worth mentioning you must talk to all the characters before heading off and playing cards as them. This is how you get story missions. However, doing some character's requested story missions will cancel out other character's requested story missions. There are guides on PSO-world for this, but it does seem slow moving with the way that you have to properly play through the game over and over to see the big picture with all playable characters.
There's a lot of reading to it as well, like on top of already being a deck builder if that would be an issue. I've always found the game comfy though :3
#for those that have been following for a long time favorite person was who got IP banned on the PSO2 SEA region servers#they're an aussie#we play psu together now but he's also played ep1 offline and streamed that for my amusement :3#god that was maybe 8 years ago? idk but when I first moved to the city RIGHT BEFORE MY PC DIED FOR LIKE 7 YEARS???#YA the hiatus I came back from like 4ish years ago lmao welcome back wow thats ok anyway#answered

🖤 In Memoriam:James Bond, 1962–2025
Shaken. Sold. Streamed. 🇬🇧
May 2021 – Amazon formally announced its acquisition of MGM for $8.45 billion. That deal included the Bond franchise. The monopolistic oligopoly acquired the rights to distribute all James Bond films and some creative control over future productions.
February 2025, the Broccoli family—longtime stewards of the James Bond franchise—transferred all creative control to Amazon MGM Studios in a reported $1 billion dollar agreement.
What began as cinema’s most stylish spy saga—the martinis, the bespoke tux, the gadgets, the globe-trotting glamour, the iconic theme songs—has now been handed off to be creatively managed by tech bros beholden to algorithms. With Amazon officially taking the reins, our favorite MI6 agent is retired, now entering his “Prime” era.
Bond survived volcano lairs, voodoo rituals, space lasers, and three Daniel Craig crying scenes—but the real villain?
📦 Corporate IP consolidation.
🎬007 was more than a number. He was a vibe. A reminder that action, swagger, and toxic masculinity can be both intoxicating and lethal. ☠️
🍸 So today, at H2shO™️, we raise our recycled water bottles and cue the horns of Live and Let Die. 💦

hi p'abl! silly little question: do you have any idea what's up with the 'leaving gagaoolala soon' section? i've been dismayed several times to see a strongberry entry show up on that list - for example, 'some more' last year - yet to my immense relief i've never seen anything actually become unavailable
Hum, interesting.
Well I have seen it leave, mostly older JBL. Gaga had Takumi 2-6 for a while, and then they entered the "leaving soon" phase, and then they... left. Pornographer series did that. Restart After Come back Home etc...
I'm assuming it's an exclusivity contract thing.
I would trust it if the threat comes via JBL, Japan is wicked cagey around IP.
As for Strongberry and Korea (or Taiwan itself) I would assume they renegotiated the contract or just relaxed exclusivity. (So instead of leaving it just started showing up elsewhere like Viki.)
Hope that helps

I need you to understand if I can't buy a version of a media you are producing, I simply will not watch it.
"Subscribe to watch" is rent seeking behavior and I will not aid in your evil. I'm not going to pay you to watch the one thing I'm interested in on your shitty platform.
I AM going to buy a bigger external drive and pirate it like it's 2007 and I'm penniless.
#I'm getting real fucking tied of the 'subscribe to watch' model of TV#No I want to watch 1 or 2 shows that have insane fandoms not perpetually pay you only for the content I subscribed for to be yoinked#I'm big mad at the IP streaming nonsense wars#even services that used to allow password sharing are following the Netflix 'household' model#The only streaming service that gets a slight pass is Dropout#because I know in my heart Sam Reich wants there to be physical copies/boxed sets of media but economy of scale in not in his favor rn#also if I just wanted a digital copy (willing to pay for it) homeboy would be down for it

I think, legally, if a studio/game developer/publisher/whatever has the rights to an IP, but they go for five or more years without releasing any projects related to that IP, the rights to the property should return to the person who originally pitched or wrote it and they can repitch it somewhere else or continue it on their own as they see fit, or just keep the rights and know that nobody can butcher the property.
Obviously, companies should keep the rights to the projects they create while the IP is theirs and any characters or concepts that they introduced that was not the original creators idea should belong to their individual versions, but I think if more creators had the option to take their beloved brain child and walk if a studio decides they actually don't want to do anything with the IP, they should be more than capable of doing so.
This should also apply to cancelations without any plans for new projects AND media being removed from streaming and viewing should automatically return to the original creator.
#i just think if the suits dont want an IP it should go to the creator#once they decide they dont want to waste money making a certain franchise anymore they can enjoy the royalties from what they made#and give the rights to create more back to the original artist#companies wouldnt lose the earnings they get from streaming and distributing what theyve already done#they just cant sit on an IP that they have no plans to work on#and I know merchandising rights would be a pain#but they should be able to keep selling merch for the project as well alongside the creator#but they can only sell merch featuring the designs and concepts from their version they worked on#the original creator has the rights to any designs and concepts at the discretion of the original contracts they signed#or they just keep the rights to their original designs and concepts and things they make for it from that point on#it gets foggy there so I know why it isnt a thing#but Im so tired of seeing creators who want to continue their shows or movies but who no longer own the rights to the IP#and the company that does LITERALLY DOESNT CARE about the property

Blindspot's being taken off Hulu in the US, and according to a friend, it's already come down off Canadian Netflix. I can't imagine Disney/Hulu's rights have expired, they're just taking shit down and hoarding it for tax reasons, so...get your DVDs or downloads while you can.
#i guess we can hope they'll sell the rights elsewhere but i'm really not holding my breath#god i hate streaming services and their complete disregard for the time and effort that got put into the IPs they own#blindspot
