What No One Tells You About Writing Fantasy
Every author has their preferred genres. I love fantasy and sci-fi, but began with historical fiction. I hated all the research that historical fiction demands and thought, if I build my own world, no research required.
Boy, was I wrong.
So to anyone dipping their toe into fantasy/sci-fi, here’s seven things I wish I knew about the genres before I committed to writing for them.
1. You still have to research. Everything.
If you want any of your fantasy battle sequences, or your space ships, or your droids and robots, or your fictional government and fictional politics to read at all believable.
In sci-fi, you research astronomy, robotics, politics, political science, history, engineering, anthropology. In fantasy, you have to research historical battle tactics, geography, real-world mythology, folklore, and fairytales, and much of it overlaps with science fiction.
I say you *have to* assuming you want your work to be original and unique and stand out from the crowd. Fanfic writers put in the research for a 30k word smut fic, you can and will have to research for your original work.
2. Naming everything gets exhausting
I hate coming up with new names, especially when I write worlds and places divorced from Earthly customs and can’t rely on Earthly naming conventions. You have to name all your characters, all your towns, villages, cities, realms, kingdoms, planets, galaxies, star systems.
You have to name your rebel faction, your imperial government, significant battles. Your spaceships, your fantasy companies and organizations, your magic system, made-up MacGuffins, androids, computer programs. The list goes on and on and on.
And you have to do it all without it sounding and reading ridiculous and unpronounceable, or racist. Your fantasy realms have to have believable naming patterns. It. Gets. Exhausting.
3. It will never read like you’re watching a movie
Do you know how fast movies can cut between scenes? Movies can balance five plotlines at once all converging with rapid edits, without losing their audience. Sometimes single lines of dialogue, or single wordless shots are all a scene gets before it cuts. If you try to replicate that by head-hopping around, you will make a mess.
It’s perfectly fine to write like you’re watching a movie, but you can’t rely on visual tricks to get your point across when all you have is text on a page – like slow mo, lens flares, epically lit cinematic shots, or the aforementioned rapid edits.
It doesn’t have to, nor should it, look like a movie. Books existed long before film, so don’t let yourself get caught up in how ~cinematic~ it may or may not look.
4. Your space opera will be compared to Star Wars and Star Trek
And your fairy epic will be compared to Tinkerbell, your vampires to Twilight, your zombies to The Walking Dead, Shaun of the Dead, World War Z. Your wizards and witches and any whisper of a fantasy school for fantasy children will be compared to Harry Potter. Your high fantasy adventure will be compared to Lord of the Rings.
You can’t avoid it, but you can avoid doing it to yourself. When people ask about your book, let them say “oh, you mean like Star Wars” to which you then can say, kind of, except XYZ happens in my book. These IPs will never fade from the public consciousness, not while you exist to read this post, at least, but Harry Potter isn’t the only urban fantasy out there. Lord of the Rings isn’t the only high fantasy. Star Wars isn’t the only space opera.
Yours will be on the shelves right next to them, soon enough, and who knows? You might dethrone them.
5. Your world-building is an iceberg, and your book is the tip
I don’t pay for any of those programs that help you organize your book and mythos. I write exclusively on Apple Notes, MS Word, and Google Suite (and all are free to me). I have folders on Apple Notes with more words inside them than the books they’re written for.
If you try to cram an entire college textbook’s worth of content into your novel, you will have left zero room for actual story. The same goes for all the research you did, all the hours slaving away for just a few details and strings of dialogue.
There’s a balance, no matter how dense your story is. If you really want to include all those extra details, slap some appendices at the end. Commission some maps.
6. The gatekeeping for fantasy and sci-fi is still very real
Pen names and pseudonyms exist for a reason. A female author writing fantasy that isn’t just a backdrop for romance? You have a harder battle ahead of you than your male counterparts, at least in the US. And even then, your female protagonist will be scrutinized and torn apart.
She’ll either be too girly or not girly enough, too sexy, or not sexy enough. She’ll be called a Mary Sue, a radical feminist mouthpiece, some woke propaganda. Every action she takes will be criticized as unrealistic and if she has fans who are girls, they will be mocked, too.
If you have queer characters, characters of color, they won’t be good enough, they won’t please everyone, and someone will still call you a bigot. A lot of someones will still call you a bigot.
Do your due diligence and hire your army of sensitivity readers and listen to them, but you cannot please everyone, so might as well write to please yourself. You’re the one who will have to read it a thousand times until it’s published.
7. Your “original” idea has been done before, and that’s okay
Stories have been told since before language evolved. The sum of the parts of your novel may be original, but even then, it’s colored by the media you’ve consumed. And that’s okay!
How many Cinderella stories are there? How many high fantasies? How many books about werewolves and witches and vampires? Gods and goddesses and celestial beings? Fairies and dragons and trolls? Aliens, robots, alien robots? Romeo and Juliette? Superheroes and mutants?
Zombies may be the avenue through which you tell your story, but it’s not *just* about zombies, is it? It’s about the characters who battle them, the endurance of the human spirit, or the end of an era, the death of a nation. So don’t get discouraged, everyone before you and everyone after will have written someone on the backs of what came before and it still feels new.

Seeing DATV defenders froth at the mouth over the fact people still don’t like their favorite half-baked “progressive”-but-clearly-still-written-by-out-of-touch-white-liberals is a sight to see. Like I’m sorry that I have actual standards for my media and want my RPGs to remain consistent in giving players the opportunity to deeply explore and navigate systemic issues that have been established as ever-present in the fictional world, up to and even including opportunities to actively help change the system or do good within the suffocating spidery network of law, culture, morality, justice, and privilege. Do you even want your interactive media IP that you once claimed to love for its lore and world-building to explore these things or are you just so absolutely exhausted by real life that you’re demanding that this IP that always tried to explore heavy topics instead change itself so it can coddle your burnt-out brain and spoonfeed you easy-to-digest num nums where Good is Good and Bad is Bad and just defeat the Bad Guys, hurray! Absolutely kill me.

The day goes by fast for the Bau, the day doesn’t have enough hours before the sun is setting again. They checked out a place today hoping you would be there but instead they found nothing, not even a sign that anyone used to be there. Garcia also isn’t getting anywhere tracking their Ip address, and they haven’t gone live since this morning. Currently the team is sitting around the table eating or more like picking at their dinner as they throw out more ideas.
“We got his face on camera, Garcia has it circulating through all facial recognitional searches” Morgan adds, sighs as he stabs his noodles.
“She won’t find anything, he’s been doing this for years there will be no recognition of him for the past twenty years” Rossi huffs quietly staring at the photo of the unsub on the board.
“Maybe not, but she can put him through her system and make him appear younger then maybe she will get a hit” JJ suggests staring at the wall, her body feeling numb.
“Good idea, when she lands get her straight onto that” Hotch instructs looking over at Morgan.
“Will do” Morgan nods at him.
“When does she land?” Emily asks, glancing over at Morgan who automatically checks his watch.
“In twenty minutes, I should get going. I promise her I’ll be waiting by the gate when she lands” He smiles weakly standing up. No one argues, everyone knows those two come in a package.
“Hey can I come for a ride, I could use the fresh air” JJ looks up at him, feeling exhausted.
“Sure blondie lets go” Morgan smiles a little as they walk out.
~~~
The night goes by with Reid, Rossi and Hotch narrowing down their comfort zone, while Garica and Morgan go through making the unsub appear younger and running him through everything. JJ and Emily, run through their notes of the interview of some of the victims families they talked to today, coming to some conclusions that they wish they never had to. Once it gets too late and the room is filled with nothing but yawns, Hotch finally sends them home, his heart racing at the thought you have been gone for 36 hours. Everyone leaves silently hating the idea of going back to the hotel while you're missing. Once Aaron is alone in his hotel room he sits at the small desk in the corner of the room, pulling out his notebook and a file as he gets back to work, doing his best to distract his mind from the hopelessness look in your eye. You don’t think they are coming for you, no, you don’t think he is coming for you. He is, and he won’t rest until he has you back where you belong. His mind runs back to the night, the night he regrets letting you go. The night he confessed to you, that he enjoyed having you in his life more than a boss should. That he doesn’t normally allow an agent to get this close to him or his kid, and he definitely doesn’t allow his agents to cuddle up to him on his couch watching movies, or kiss him that one night. He also doesn’t allow an agent to push him on cases like you do, he doesn’t allow an agent to bring a case to him like this and get away with using his FBI statutes to get information he’s not entitled to. He doesn’t allow it, so how the hell did he allow himself to let you worm yourself into his heart, and why the hell did he let you leave that night. Aaron doesn’t realise there are tears sliding down his face, hitting his notes until there's a sharp knock on the door. Quickly he pulls himself together, wiping his face as he takes a deep breath steadying his heartbeat as he looks through the peephole. Of course it's Dave he groans to himself, wondering if he could just go to bed and pretend he’s asleep to make him go away.
“Open up Aaron I know you're there” Dave smirks, staring at the door with a knowing look. Ever so slowly Aaron opens the door, his face hard, showing no emotion.
“What's up Dave?” Aaron sighs lightly, acting tired blocking the doorway.
“Don’t what's up me” Dave rolls his eyes as he pushes past him, walking straight in.
“Oh sure come on in” Aaron says sarcastically as he closes the door, he somehow allows his guard down around Dave. Dave moves to the middle of the room then turns around, staring at Aaron, his body stiffens under Dave gaze, crosses his arms in defence.
“What do you want Dave?”
“You want to tell me what's going on with you?” Dave stares at him, his eyes staring a hole into his soul.
“What do you mean, my agent is missing? I'm sorry if I’m a little on edge” Aaron snaps at him, the tears threatening to come back.
“Today you keep referring to him as your agent, you keep refusing to say his name” Dave sighs, noticing the tension threatening to break on Aaron's face.
“Dave” His name is barely above a whisper, it's a warning. “Get out”
“Not until you open up and tell me what's happened between you two” Dave pushes, taking a step forward as he spots a tear escaping down Aaron cheek as he looks away.
“Aaron its me, talk to me”
“I can’t lose him Dave, not after Haley” His voice breaks as he speaks, sitting down on the bed.
~~~
“I invited him to a soccer game of Jack one day” Aaron breaks the silence, his eyes focused on the wall opposite him. Dave is sitting at the desk, watching him quietly, he wishes he could hear this under better circumstances.
“I didn’t think he would come, you know how closed off he is. He had a rough case and I wanted to make sure he was okay during the weekend” Hotch takes a deep breath as he thinks back.
You didn’t want to get out of bed this morning, but you promised Hotch you would go to his son's soccer game with him. Apparently because you have been on the team for over a year and a half now and you still haven’t met his son yet which is a call for concern, apparently. Slowly you dragged yourself out of bed and got ready for the day, driving to the soccer field and stopping for some coffee and um a hot chocolate, because kids like hot chocolate right? You double asked yourself as you drove to the field, earlier than Hotch had told you the game was but he said he would be there early for warm up seeing as he is the couch. You pull up into the car parks, noticing a spare park beside a familiar car so you quickly park before getting out, and making your way through the field finding your boss setting down a bag and some bottles and a kid who seems to be a mini version of him holding a ball laughing beside him.
“Morning” You call out to them, your eyes focused on Hotch as he turns around with a smile growing on his face.
“You're earlier” He points out, walking over to you.
“I know” You smirk softly. “But I brought coffee, and a hot chocolate for the little child”
“Thanks,” Hotch smiles. “Jack, this is (Y/n) my coworker”
“Hi,” Jack mumbles, looking down.
“Hey kid” You smile awkwardly, before picking up the coffee and offering it to Hotch.
“Thank you, you didn’t have to” He smiles warmly as he reaches for it, his smile fades as you jump slightly at his movements.
“Oh it's no problem” You focus your smile to stay put. “Sorry” You quickly apologise, gulping quickly as you turn to Jack as you hand him his drink. “This is for you Jack”
“Woah, it's huge!” Jack exclaims, taking it. “Dad only ever gets me the small one, thank you”
You can’t help but laugh softly. “It's because I’m better than him” You tease.
“That's because I have to deal with the sugar rush later,” Aaron groans, smirking at you.
“They get sugar rush?” You look at him confused, your eyebrows pinching together looking cute according to Aaron.
“They do, you don’t know anything about kids do you” Aaron teases you, laughing as he sees his son struggle to hold the cup without dropping it.
“Oh nothing, I don’t like kids” You shrug, as you watch Jack not realising Aaron is currently staring at you with his eyes full of hope.
After the soccer game, you three went out for ice cream, the day was full of laughter and joy as you got to know the Hotchner boys. The next few weekends the same thing happened, you went to the game, then an afternoon activity with the two sweetest boys. About six months pass by, when an incident with Jack processes to push you and Aaron closer.
You are currently watching Jack's first game of summer soccer, cheering for him from the side lines, a huge smile takes over your face as you watch him. The pride grows in your chest as he scores another goal, glancing over at Aaron by the side lines, the proud dad looks on his face as he claps loudly with the clipboard. The game is close, the team only needs one more goal and the game is theirs. The game goes by quickly with both teams playing well for kids, your heart is pounding when you see Jack got the ball lined up for the goal and the referee is about to call the game, but then he kicks and he gets in just as the game comes to an end. The team all screams and cheers with excitement, running towards their parents to celebrate, except Jack. He’s sprinting towards screaming that he’s won, before he’s jumping at you, wrapping his arms around you. You freeze, your smile falters as he touches you, but then you look down at the small boy in your arms and you smile before wrapping your arms around him, the tension in your chest breaking apart.
“You did amazing kiddo” You smile widely as you hear heavy footsteps approaches, pulling away from Jack as you glance up to meet his father's gaze, a worried look on his face quickly fades to a relieved, happy look.
“They played great” You smile at him, but your smile doesn’t reach your eyes as Jack pulls away, causing Aaron to worry internally.
“They did, you did so great buddy” Aaron looks down at his son, with loving eyes as he ruffles his hair.
Later that night, you three have had a movie night and now Jack is asleep in his bed as you and Aaron watch a less kid friendly movie, while chatting away.
“I’m sorry if Jack made you uncomfortable earlier” Aaron glances at you as the conversation from before dies away, your eyes stay glued on the tv.
“Um when?” You gulp, you know what he’s talking about, but you don’t want to talk about it.
“When he hugged you (Y/n), I know you don’t like physical touch”
“It's fine, It happened and it didn’t suck” You shrug, ignoring the way your body tenses up.
“(Y/n), If you want me to tell him not to do it again I will” Aaron speaks softly, watching the upset and agitated look flash over your face as you glance at him.
“Don’t do that, I don’t mind hugging him. What, am I not allowed to hug people just because I’ve never hugged someone before!” You snap at him, anger and sadness welling up inside you.
“No, I didn’t mean that” Aaron smiles sadly at you, before reaching for your hand that lays on the couch in between you both. Your freeze, your eyes focusing on his hand closely but you don’t pull away. He slowly intertwined his fingers with yours, taking a deep you slide your thumb over his, a small smile pulling at your lips.
“You said you haven’t had a hug before?” Aaron keeps his voice light as he speaks, holding your hand softly as he looks up at you.
“Not since I was young” You talk quietly, looking into his eyes as you speak. “I know I’m not normal Aaron but I’m trying I promise” Your voice almost sounds like you're begging when you speak, your voice wobbles as your eyes water just a little.
“I know you are, I see you and you are doing a great job” Aaron reassures you. Holding back the automatic urge to pull you into a hug and tell you that nothing can hurt you anymore and that you're doing a great job and just how far you have come. But he can’t do that, because you're not ready for the praise nor ready for the way he wants to hold you and even if you are he would break the thin line of professionalism he is trying to keep between you two.
“I am?” Your face lights up a little, a smile tugging at your lips.
“You are, do you remember when you first joined the team?” Aaron smiles as he watches you, the way your eyes slide to the wall as you think back.
“Yeah.. You kept getting mad at me”
“Mad isn’t the right word, I was concerned for you. You barely slept and never ate, you drank more caffeine than Reid and that’s saying something” Aaron jokes lightly, causing you to chuckle softly.
“Okay, but I still do that most weeks”
“Still less than you used to do, and that's an improvement” Aaron squeezes your hand softly, which makes your smile grow just a little. “You also used violence a lot more when arresting an unsub, you don’t do that so much anymore you have more control over your temper” His words sink in slowly, your heart melting as your eyes meet his, allowing his sweet words to break your walls down.
“That one is hard, anger and violence is all I knew growing up” Your words are barely above a whisper as you admit that, squeezing his hand a little.
“That's okay, because you are still young and you are still learning” He smiles as his thumb brushes over your hand. “Also back then you would never let me hold your hand, or even hug my son”
“Maybe it's more because you two mean something to me rather than something else” You gulp as you admit your feelings.
“Well you are welcome here whenever you like” Aaron smiles as he looks at you, his eyes filled with love as he stares into your own. He feels himself falling for you, he knows it's wrong but right now Aaron doesn’t care, because he’s never seen anyone with such beautiful eyes before.
“Can.. Can you hug me.. I want to try it” You push the words out of your throat as the nerves start to get involved. Aaron smiles softly, his arms wrapping around you, pulling you down and into his chest. You take a deep breath, half laying down in his arms, closing your eyes as you focus on his heart beat, and the warmth his arm produces.
~~~
“You two got really close?” Dave pulls Aaron back to the present.
“Six months Dave… That night brought us even closer but six months it stayed like that” Aaron voice breaks as a tear slides down his hands shaking. “And then he pulled away, something was going on but he refused to tell me what and after one night.. That night he.. He kissed me” Aaron takes a sharp breath as that memory invades his mind the way you cupped his face as you ask him sweetly before your lips are capturing his.
“What happened?” Dave watched him concernedly, his eyes focused on Aaron's body language.
“He fell asleep in my arms, and the next morning he was gone, I tried to talk to him at work and he told me that he had to refocus on work, he didn’t have time for friends, I let him go Dave, I knew something was wrong but I also knew that he’s not right, he doesn't understand relationships or love, now I know why” Aaron looks up at Dave, his heart breaking.
“This isn’t your fault Aaron” Dave reaches out, placing a hand on his shoulder.
“I know Dave but–” Before Aaron could finish there's an urgent knock on the door pulling the two mens attention away. As soon as the door opens Garcia and Morgan are walking in urgent looks plastered over their faces, both carrying their laptops.
“They are going live” Morgan breaks the silence, before glancing at Hotch who is quickly drying his face., jumping to his feet quickly. All four of them gather around the laptop where the loading screens disappear and your bloody face fills the screen making Aarons insides screaming.
~~~
You are left alone for hours after being tortured, they only stopped after you screamed out the name they branded you with. You pass out at one point, your body and mind begging for a break, and against the hardest you try you black out. A sharp pain flies across your face, bringing you back to the hell you're in. Blinking rapidly while your eyes adjust to the bright light shining down at you, your eyes finally adjust landing on the man in front of you.
“Ready for round two Jupiter?” He chuckles at you, his grin is one that will forever haunt your nightmares.
“Why don’t you untie me and I’ll show you just how ready I am” You glare up at him, anger and tiredness sitting in your chest. He grabs your chin pinching it hard between his thumb and pointer finger, his eyes icy cold as he stares into you.
“Oh that's the plan, we’re going old school” A sickening feeling fills your stomach as his grin grows.
“No, not again” You spit at him, fear filling you knowing that's their plan to break you.
“Bring him out” He yells out, letting your chin go as the door on the other side of the room swings open, your stomach drops. She walks in, followed by a younger boy who seems to be in his mid teens.
“He’s too young no” You shake your head vigorously, your heart pounding. He looks so strong, but you know you're stronger even in your current state you could beat him.
“You killed people when you were younger than him” He laughs. “Hell you are our youngest killer after all”
“Shut up” You snarl at him, your eyes flickering towards the video camera.
“Just enjoy the fight, let yourself remember the joy you used to feel” He smirks as he grabs the camera and lights moving them out of the pool before he climbs out.
“Hey, aren’t you going to untie me then” You glare up at him, your eyes glace at the kid as he approaches, his eyes are dead but focused on you. To him you aren’t a person just a chore for the day, he just needs to get you over with so he can have dinner and go to sleep.
“He will do it” He smirks at you, before the boy jumps into the pool.
“Julian, remember the rules” Ma’am calls to the boy, her eyes flickering to yours. Her’s are filled with excitement, she can’t wait to see the next show.
“Yes Ma’am” He nods, before approaching you, untying you quickly before backing up to his corner.
“When
I say start you two better give everyone a good show my lovies” She sings out to you two before giggling sickly, holding the camera zooming in on you as you stand up your eyes trained on the boy. You won’t attack him, just keep him busy until he gives up.
“Three, two one, go” Her smirk darkness as the boy lunges at you.
~~~
He’s a lot stronger than you thought he was, after a few rounds of dodging and making him chase you around the pool, he’s managed to land a few strong punches on you. Eventually he gets you down, his fist colliding with your face too much for you to think straight and soon instinct takes over. Your legs wrap around his waist, flipping you both over as you manage to get a few hits on him, he stops moving as you put pressure over his throat. A soft laugh escapes you as he starts relaxing under you, his eyes soften as fear invades them as he struggles underneath you.
“Please don’t” He coughs his words out, but they aren’t enough to stop you.
“That’s it Jupiter finish him” She cheers for you, your stomach drops as her voice sets in. Shaking your head as you eyes meet him, you quickly let his throat go as he stops struggling under you.
“That's not my name” You growl glancing at her, before looking at the scared boy under you. “Take a deep breath kid, you're okay now” You speak softly, guilt eating at you. He nods quickly, taking deep breaths as you climb off him, holding out a hand for him, pulling him up to his feet. Sliding his arm over your shoulder as he uses you for support, you glare up at the two viewers.
“You can try as much as you like, you're not breaking me” You breathe heavily as you try to catch your breath. You are pretty sure your ribs are broken along with your nose, more blood drips down your face.
“Bullshit” He snarls out as he jumps into the pool with you, storming over.
“Can’t break me” You smirk at him just a little.
“You won that fight, and winners here only win one way” He glares murderously at you, before you have time to process anything he lunges at Julian. A sharp howl leaves the young boy's mouth, your eyes widen as he pulls away, blood dripping from the knife in his hand.
“No!” You scream, your hand flies toward Julian side, where the stab wound is, pressing against the bleeding as you lay him down.
“You won, deal with it” He laughs bitterly as they walk out, leaving you two alone.
You hold the tears back as you press against the wound, looking into the young boy's frightened eyes.
“It's.. its going to be okay kid” You try to pull yourself together, as the boy stares up at you.
“It's okay” He coughs out weakly. “They can’t hurt me now”
“That's right they can’t” You whimper, a tear sliding down as the light in his eyes start to fade.
“My sister here, she's beside you” His words are barely above a whisper now, goosebumps make your arms tingle.
“Go with her kiddo, be safe now” Tears slide down as his chest stops breathing and you can’t move. Eventually you pull your hands off him, and collapse onto your back sobs racking through your body. That should be you, no one is even looking for you, this is your fault.
~~~
The team sits in silence as the live ends, Garcia keyboard is the only sound that fills the room. Tears are sliding down almost everyone's face, guilt, fear and anger fills everyone. The rest of the team had come and joined the other four earlier on, everyone had to watch your fight in silence, their hearts breaking at your screaming. The way you fell to your knees trying to keep the boy alive, then it ended, and no one knows how to proceed.
“Penelope, do you have a location?” It's Dave that breaks the silence, his eyes landing on her. Her body is shaking as she cries but she carries on typing on her laptop.
“No, but.. But I’ve got it narrowed down, and I tapped into their viewers, maybe we can’t get something off that” Her voice is shaky as she tries to push through it.
“Baby girl” Derek gently takes her hand, worried about her shaking.
“I.. I’m sorry” She sobs, falling into Derek's chest who holds her closely, his own tears sliding down.
“Everyone take five minutes, then back to the precinct” Aaron orders, his eyes still focused on the screen, his heart falling apart. In a quick minute JJ and Reid are running out of the room, needing time to themselves.
Everyone knew the timeline had been cut shorter, if they make you fight again, Aaron knows you will give yourself up, he can’t let you do that.

GRAY — "I apologize, but my other projects had to take a backseat for a day or two— I know that I was working on some very important things, for some very important people, but I had a thought, or, rather, an idea, and, and I needed to tend to that first—"
[ The young pilot's tertiary hands adjust the camera, perching it on a shelf just a few inches above his eye-line. He's uncomfortable close to the viewer for a moment; His exhaustion is plain in his face, visible in the lines beneath his eyes, or the unkempt nature of his hair. He isn't shaking, however, nor does he seem ill; He's merely worn out, worn thin, and a little frayed. ] [ His dominant hands are visible as he steps back, gesturing vaguely as he speaks, but not signing. The voice of his TTS interface buzzes from the PDA strapped to his hip, but he isn't touching the keys. ]
GRAY — "Our nanite 'problem' was easy enough to solve- disable them with an EMP device, gather them into an admittedly simple container, transport them to a designated area to be dealt with by a professional." GRAY — "Except— no-one knew that I had them. No-one knew that there was even a 'problem' to begin with." GRAY — "And, in the moment, I suppose I was taken with a sort of nostalgia- I have experience with these things, with greywash and its ilk, and I've seen how useful it can be when properly utilized. I have an affinity for things like this. Things so single-minded in their purpose, these things built to eat, to grow, to deconstruct what it means to be alive." GRAY — "Though, It wasn't my idea, really, to keep them- I've got a bleeding heart, no doubt, and had already gotten a little attached to it even as it destroyed my workspace, and gnawed at my chassis. I figured- I thought, why not give it a more comfortable container, and, possibly, make myself and my brother a little safer at the same time?"
[ Gray doesn't smile. He steps back, two hands held out to the camera, palms forwards, urging the viewer to wait as he briefly steps offscreen. A moment later, he reappears, grabs the camera, and holds it aloft; A quick pivot on the heel of his boot, and the camera's perspective widens, revealing the nanite-ravaged workshop— ] [ —and a Combat Drill, laid out in the center of the large workspace, partially deconstructed and heavily modified. Gray leans closer, focusing the camera on the head of the drill. ] [ Something buzzes along the metal's edge. ]
GRAY — "I couldn't be prouder of how it turned out." GRAY — "Now; I'm going to get some sleep, and, hopefully, resume work on my obligations in the morning. Afternoon. Whenever I wake up." GRAY — "Hopefully, I'll feel more like myself after some rest."

Just ramblings I need to get out of my system
I have such a weird hang up whenever I’m in the pits of obsession about an IP, specifically when it’s not one shared by my group of friends, where I feel guilty and ashamed talking about it. Not for any good reason, I have no idea why, it’s just this internal reflex that says, don’t embarrass yourself. Nobody is interested and you wouldn’t wanna make them tolerate listening if they don’t want to. They’ve told me 8000 times that this is not the case but I apparently live in this self-imposed prison until I can change my thinking, and in the meantime I’m even embarrassed about showing my hyperfixations too intensely even on TUMBLR, and that’s what this whole website is for. And then when I feel frustrated by this and want to just talk about it to let it out, I don’t do that either, because that’s just another step to being embarrassing. I opened and started this post like 4 times bc I kept telling myself, what if someone actually reads it and I’m embarrassing? Or worse what if it sounds like I’m trying to bait people into asking and then THAT would be embarrassing too.
Like Jesus Christ I am Theseus in the labyrinth except all I do is find ways to get deeper and deeper in, it is EXHAUSTING. I am doing a lot of work in therapy to be kinder to myself but oh my god I have this really WEIRD sense of personal pride that basically tells me to not open up to anyone ever bc I’ll embarrass myself. Even to my family???? And my best friends????
I even put this under a read more to try and make sure it’s skipped over. Trying to analyze my behavior from an unbiased perspective is fucking wild bc what ARE you doing.
Man that felt like it was squeezing my soul to death and I really needed to just get it out, shit. This post started out as an apology for spamming KCD but I’m NOT SORRY actually

w[h]ip wednesday
i forgot to post last wednesday! oops
this is from my day 3! the working title is "and the gay one still wearing his cravat"
There’s an omen in the way it’s her sore throat that wakes her, not Miles’ car coming to a rumbling halt. Franziska blinks languidly at the iridescent blur of traffic all around her, runoff from the sprinklers trickling onto the still-steaming blacktop and turning them to mirrors in the newborn night. In the last flash of sunset, the palm trees look black against the sky.
She sniffs sharply and suddenly, the nonspecific area behind her nose and eyes feeling uncomfortable and buzzy. The California dusk slowly crystallizes around her—headlights and streetsigns, the overpass across the way, the undefined purr of engines idling in the… parking lot. They’re in a parking lot.
To her left, Miles pulls his keys from the ignition, and the system clicks off with a quiet beep. Franziska realizes she’d been sleeping with her arms wrapped around her waist, and she tightens her own grip on herself, as if trying to hold it all together.
Her voice scrapes against itself as it tries its damnedest to manifest, “Where have you taken me?”
Miles looks unbothered, pawing around his pockets for something.
“Creme Royale parking lot.”
Narrow-eyed and exhausted, Franziska blinks owlishly at him.
“Why,” she croaks, “are we in the Creme Royale parking lot.”
“Because the drive-thru line was too long,” says Miles. “Do keep up, Franziska.”
There is an air that Miles wears like a veil across his shoulders when he has no interest in elaborating further. Thus far, the only people who seem able to yank that metaphorical garment from its place there are Phoenix Wright, and Franziska on a good day. Today is decidedly not a good day—evidenced by the fact that she somehow fell asleep in Miles Edgeworth’s obnoxiously loud, fuel-inefficient slag heap of a car—and so she lets him be aloof and dodgy, saying no more to him as he goes. The locks shove themselves back into place with a n oddly abrasive sound, and Franziska leans her head against the car window, feeling uncomfortably warm.
When did she fall asleep? The day’s events run together like paint, each so oversaturated a colour that the blend just ends up an ugly grey in the end. No sooner after she exited the car had the discomfort in her throat returned, as if the shameless munching of cough drops she’d been doing all morning had been for naught. Holding a growl behind her teeth, she soldiered on—trekking the campus in razor heels with briefcase in hand, meeting with countless students, giving her two-hour lecture to a circular room of enraptured, bright-eyed kids, relishing in all the attention and praise.
Miles was, as always, incorrigibly kind, and so he’d been right there to pick her up as the sun was dipping, and she remembers the ache had made its way clear down to her legs at that point, and her voice was beginning to become a measly imprint of its usual deep, rich tenor… and she had tried to remain dignified as she more or less collapsed, unceremoniously, into her brother’s car. He had asked something about if she’d had a nice day, and she had mumbled out some manner of insult in response, and then… nothing. She woke up in the parking lot, sweating in the fool’s passenger seat.
Why’s it so damn hot? The only thing that stops Franziska from diving for the AC is the way just lifting her arm pulls hard at her nerves. What the hell is wrong with her? Dark a thought as it is, she feels like she had more arm strength than this the day she got shot.
It’s a useless endeavour, in any case. As she sits there quietly seething with heat and rage, the digital numbers on Miles’ car radio tell her the temperature is already cranked as low as it can possibly go. No doubt he saw her sweating like a maniac and did so in an attempt to spare her the shame, Miles would never keep it that cold on purpose. That thought strikes again—revolting. The idea that he notices at all sits sourly in her stomach, disgust and childish gratitude swirling into a terrible amalgam that unsettles her bones and prickles her skin.
Finally, he is back, with one of those cardboard multi-cup holders braced upon his flowering palm as though he’s a server at a fine dining establishment. If she were anyone else, looking in from the outside into this strange existence the von Karma disciples live in, the whole picture would probably be comical—this grown man in Classical-inspired courtroom regalia, cravat and all, tiptoeing over potholes and buckled asphalt in a fast food parking lot in an attempt to balance his…
Ice cream.
He is carrying several containers of ice cream.

All locations, allegedly "mined" on Oct. 14, were inspected, after anonymous threats were sent - all reports turned out to be false, National Police wrote on its website Oct. 15.
This statement comes after authorities received dozens of reports about "mining" of various administrative buildings, educational institutions, and media offices across Ukraine, including the NV office, on Oct. 14.
"Police units inspected all facilities mentioned in the bomb threats, and all reports were false," the police said.
"These actions are the hallmark of Russian special services, waging hybrid warfare against Ukraine, attempting to induce mass panic and exhaust state and law enforcement systems."
The majority of messages originated from Russian IP addresses, the officers noted. Law enforcement structures responded to over 2,000 calls.
Criminal cases have been opened under Article 259 of Ukraine's Criminal Code for knowingly false report of a threat to the safety of citizens.
60+ Ukrainian diplomatic missions abroad, along with some Foreign Affairs Ministry departments, also received anonymous bomb threat letters, the officials said.

Intruder ,, SplatVRAI AU ?
The Octoling was running for his life, cursing under his breath in a language his pursuers couldn't understand.
After months they spotted him. Stupid mistake that made him furious. But he had to keep his mind clear. Ink was flying past him, having him almost stumble and slip.He acted alone on instinct. Understanding where he is and how to get away. He had to be fast. He can't get caught now.
Some more ink hit Forzen at his shoulder. A hiss escaping his lips. How much more can he take? He wasn't sure.
But there it was. His escape route. An air vent of the facility. He had been using those to get around for a while. And once he reached one, he transformed into a small octopus, gliding through the vent gitters, quickly making his way through the air system.
He didn't quite understand what the Inklings were saying after he dropped in, due to his Inklish still being rusty, but it resulted in only one of them following him down the airvents and he was not going to start complaining about that.
While all that was happening, a sea urchin was starting to get a headache from the loud alarm sounds.
He had already secured all the chemicals and potions and was now trying to just enjoy his lunch. What else was he supposed to do? Darnold took a bite and in the same moment a loud clirring sound was echoing through his laboratory, causing him to chocke on his sandwich out of surprise.
He looked up in worry for whoever caused that sound aswell as his precious potions. And there was, inbetween the dangerous chemicals, an Octoling, clearly exhausted and partly splatted with ink.
The intruder, who most likely caused the alarm, seemed to have fallen unconscious. Darnold wasn't exactly sure what to do in this situation, but as he heard more sounds coming from the air vents, his instincts kicked in and he quickly picked the octopus ip and placed him in an empty barrel. And that not a second too soon.
One of the Inklings hired for the facilities security jumped out of the vent, startling Darnold, having him curse under his breath.
"Be careful!! I accidentally spilled some acid that you don't want to end up in.", the Urchin warned, partly out of worry and partly trying to scare the security guard off and leaving him alone.
The Inkling froze in an instant and you could see the fear in his eyes. He clearly had seen or heard of other Inklings acid incidents.He wasn't going to make the same mistake as those did.
"You— You haven't coincidentally seen an Octoling come out this way?"
Darnold gave a scoff and shook his head."No I have not. If he would've come out this way he would most likely be dissolving in the acid. And I have been busy cleaning up this mess."
He made a small motion with his head towards the spilled potions. The Inkling gave a nod and audibly swallowed at the thought of seeing someone dissolve in these fluids spilled all over the floor.
And Darnold was a trusted member of the research facility with a high rank. He was not about to question the man more and instead just trusted his word, quickly jumping back into the air vent in his squid form, to search for the intruder somewhere else. Finally.
Darnold gave out a sigh of relief, taking the Octoling out of the barrel, assessing the injuries he might have sustained.
Some acid burns were apparent but not too bad that they'd leave behind anything but a scar once the intruder had recovered.

I am the entire IT department of this place.
I am Help Desk.
I am Sysadmin.
I am executive management. Mainly because both of my actual bosses (On-site General Manager and remote corporate overlord) have no hard technical background. I was a software engineer for 7 years before this. And holy shit the whiplash.
My formal title is "IT Operations Manager", but I have nobody to manage. It's only me. I have complete authority over the IT infrastructure and am spending like 30% of my time doing help desk work. One minute I am setting top-level security policy, and the next, I am using a knife to pry an ethernet cable out of a laptop because apparently using the plastic tab to pull it out isn't intuitive for everyone.
I have learned a hell of a lot in the last few months.
But the thing that inspired this post, that I really want to talk about, but am struggling to find people to discuss with...
If I am walking across the facility to deal with an issue, there's like a 30% chance that someone will walk up to me with another issue that I need to deal with. I haven't implemented a help desk ticketing system yet. Haven't had the space.
But if I happen to be exhausted or in a bad mood when I respond to them, they will be hesitant to tell me when things break. This makes my job worse. I am not THEIR manager, but I'm still one of the Top Brass in this place. It doesn't matter how soft of a person I actually am, the workers here still don't want to upset me, and will swerve the hell away from me if they think they might be.
Even if I didn't care about being liked and was totally Machiavellian about how I treat people at work, this is bad.
I've read so much about the emotional labor of customer service.
Turns out, management has emotional labor, too. Except here, nobody will tell me when I'm being unapproachable. And it's also nobody else's problem.
If I can't be consistently friendly to the people around me, they will be disinclined to communicate with me. If cracks in the infrastructure appear, I won't know until something catches fire.
I cannot safely express my frustration or even exhaustion to *anyone* here, without making my job harder, regardless of how good of a rapport I may have with them.
I am the only computer professional in the building. Even the most well-meaning instance of "He is tired and overworked, let's not put more on his plate" could keep me ignorant of an impending disaster.
The entire intranet got completely fucked because someone plugged both ports of an IP phone into the same dumb switch, and I was up until 3AM trying to figure out what the fuck happened and I still haven't had the space to properly research how to overhaul this place's hackjob of a network out of the stone age. But they don't want to bother me with silly shit like helping people move cubicles when the job I was actually hired to do was implement automation into this manufacturing process.
My Corporate Overlords swear that they are working on hiring me help. But maybe I'm not squeaky enough of a wheel to get some grease.

Which brand of duct exhaust fan is better
The duct exhaust fan is a ventilation device used in connection with pipes, mainly for exhaust and air exchange, and is widely applied in industrial, commercial and residential environments.
According to the design principle, it is mainly divided into two categories:
Axial flow duct fan : The direction of gas flow is parallel to the axis of the fan impeller. The main structure includes air inlet, impeller, diffuser, air outlet, drive unit and housing. When the fan starts, the drive device drives the impeller to rotate at high speed, generating axial airflow.
Centrifugal duct fan : Expels air to the outside by centrifugal force, mainly consists of motor, impeller, casing and duct. The motor drives the impeller to rotate at high speed, generating a powerful centrifugal force that sucks in the indoor air and discharges it outdoors.
When purchasing a duct exhaust fan, the following key parameters need to be paid attention to:
Air volume (Q) : The volume of air conveyed by the fan through the duct per unit time (m³/h), which directly affects the exhaust effect
Total pressure (P) : The ability of a fan to overcome pipe resistance (Pa), the higher the value, the better the performance
Rotational speed (n) : The number of rotations of the impeller per minute (r/min), high rotational speed brings large air volume but also loud noise
Efficiency (η) : The ratio of output power to input power, the higher the energy consumption
Motor power : The amount of electricity consumed to drive the fan (kW)
Noise (L) : Sound intensity in working condition (dB(A)), high environmental requirements
Protection rating (IP) : Resistance to external dust and water droplets invasion
Typical applications of duct exhaust fans in various fields include:
Industrial environment
Chemical plants and pharmaceutical factories emit harmful gases to ensure the health and safety of workers
Industrial plants discharge hot air generated by the operation of mechanical equipment and waste gas from chemical processes
Commercial buildings
Large shopping malls and office buildings are equipped with air conditioning systems for air exchange and circulation
Kitchen exhaust and bathroom ventilation
Living environment
It is a component of the household fresh air system, continuously introducing fresh air and expelling stale air
Kitchen fumes are discharged, and moisture and odors in the bathroom are eliminated
Purchasing Guide
When purchasing a duct-type exhaust fan, the following factors should be considered:
Space size : Select the appropriate air volume according to the area. Generally, for 10-30㎡ space, select the product with air volume of 198-450m³/h
Noise level : For home use, it is recommended to choose A silent product with a noise level of 30-50dB(A)
Installation method : Confirm that the pipe diameter (commonly 100mm, 150mm, 200mm, etc.) matches the existing pipe
Energy efficiency ratio : Choosing energy-efficient products such as DC inverter technology can save a lot of electricity
Special requirements : Waterproof design for wet environments, durable motor for frequent use scenarios

How to Safeguard Your Grow Lights Against Humidity Risks
Humidity: The Sneaky Threat in Your Grow Room
Humidity is a necessary part of plant growth—but it can become a big problem for your grow lights if not managed properly. In a controlled environment, excess moisture doesn’t just affect your plants—it can silently corrode your lighting system, reducing efficiency and lifespan. That’s especially risky when you're using commercial greenhouse LED grow lights, which are a critical part of your grow setup.
Quick Tips to Keep Your Grow Lights Safe
1. Choose Moisture-Resistant Fixtures
Not all lights are designed for high-humidity environments. Look for commercial greenhouse LED grow lights with sealed housings and appropriate IP ratings to handle wet conditions.
2. Monitor Humidity Levels
Invest in a hygrometer. Keep humidity within an ideal range for your plants—but below levels that threaten electrical equipment.
3. Install Proper Ventilation
Good airflow helps prevent condensation from building up near your lights. Exhaust fans and vents are key, especially in enclosed spaces.
4. Avoid Direct Water Contact
Keep lights away from misting systems or irrigation splash zones. Even waterproof lights benefit from some distance.
5. Regularly Inspect Fixtures
Check for corrosion, fogged lenses, or any unusual condensation inside the lights. Early detection can prevent failures.
Final Thoughts
Humidity is part of the grow game—but it doesn’t have to damage your setup. With the right precautions, you can protect your commercial greenhouse LED grow lights and keep your growing environment both safe and productive. Simple tweaks can make a big difference.

How to Install and Maintain Your Panel Fan and Filter for Optimal Performance

If you’re working with electrical panels or industrial machinery, you know how important it is to keep everything cool and clean inside. That’s exactly where Enza panel fans and filters come in. They’re built to protect your sensitive equipment from getting too hot and from getting gunked up with dust and dirt. But here’s the kicker: just having them isn’t enough. To truly get the best out of your gear, make it last longer, and avoid annoying and expensive breakdowns, you need to install them carefully and keep up with their maintenance.
This guide is your go-to resource. We’ll show you exactly how to set up your Enza panel fan and filter solutions the right way and then lay out a simple plan to keep them running smoothly and efficiently for years to come.
Why Bother? The Real Cost of Neglecting Your Enza Fan and Filter
Let’s be real, maintenance can feel like a chore. But when it comes to your Enza panel fan and filter, skipping steps can lead to a world of pain, including:
· Overheating: This is the big one. Too much heat is a killer for electronics and machinery, drastically shortening their lifespan.
· Dust & Grime Buildup: Think of it like clogged arteries for your equipment. This can cause short circuits, block airflow, and just generally mess things up.
· Shorter Equipment Life: When components are constantly struggling with heat and dirt, they wear out much faster, meaning more money spent on replacements.
· Wasted Energy: A clogged Enza filter or a struggling fan has to work harder, sucking up more electricity than it should.
· Unexpected Downtime: Nothing’s worse than your critical systems crashing without warning. Proper maintenance helps prevent this.
· Warranty Headaches: Sometimes, neglecting your gear can even void the manufacturer’s warranty. Ouch.
So, taking a bit of time for correct installation and consistent upkeep of your Enza panel fans and filters isn’t just a good idea — it’s an investment in your system’s health and your peace of mind.
Section 1: Getting Ready — Your Pre-Installation Checklist
Before you even unbox anything, a little prep work makes a huge difference.
1. Read the Enza Manual, Seriously: Every Enza fan and filter unit is a bit different. The manufacturer’s instructions are your best friend here. Don’t skip them!
2. Double-Check Compatibility: Make sure your Enza fan’s airflow (CFM/CMH) is right for your enclosure’s cooling needs and that the Enza filter’s size and rating (like IP rating or MERV) fit your environment.
3. Grab Your Tools: You’ll likely need:
· Screwdrivers (or a power drill with the right bits)
· Mounting screws/bolts (they usually come with the fan, but confirm)
· A measuring tape or ruler
· A marker or pencil
· Safety gloves
· Wire strippers/crimpers (for electrical hookups)
· A multimeter (to check power)
1. CUT THE POWER! This is non-negotiable. Before touching anything inside an enclosure, make absolutely sure the power is off and locked out. Safety first, always!
2. Keep it Clean: Try to work in a clean area. You don’t want to instantly clog your brand-new Enza filter with existing dust.
Section 2: Step-by-Step — Installing Your Enza Panel Fan & Filter
While models vary, most Enza panel fan filter units (FFUs) follow a pretty similar installation dance.
Step 2.1: Picking Your Spot & Prepping the Panel
1. Choose the Best Location:
· Inlet (Intake) Fan: Usually goes at the bottom of the enclosure. It pulls in cooler air from outside.
· Outlet (Exhaust) Fan: Typically sits at the top. It pushes hot air out, because hot air naturally rises.
· Smart Placement: Try not to put your intake and exhaust fans directly across from each other. That just creates a “short circuit” where hot air gets immediately sucked back in. Aim for a diagonal airflow path for better cooling.
1. Mark the Cutout: Use the template that came with your Enza fan (or the fan itself) to carefully mark exactly where you need to cut on the enclosure panel. Precision here means a snug fit and a good seal.
2. Make the Cut: Carefully cut out the opening using the right tool (like a jigsaw or a punch tool). Once done, smooth out any rough or sharp edges.
3. Clean the Surface: Make sure the area around your new hole is super clean, dry, and free of any debris.
Step 2.2: Mounting the Enza Panel Fan Itself
1. Install the Fan:
· Most of the time, the fan motor and blades go on the outside of the enclosure, with the filter and grille on the inside.
· Gasket/Seal: Your Enza fan unit likely has a gasket or seal built-in, or you’ll need to add one. Make sure it’s sitting perfectly between the fan and the enclosure panel. This prevents air leaks and keeps your enclosure’s protection rating (IP rating) intact.
· Secure It: Pop in the mounting screws or bolts and tighten them evenly. Don’t go crazy tightening them — you don’t want to warp the panel or damage the Enza fan housing.
2. Wiring It Up:
a) Follow the Diagram: Connect the Enza fan’s power wires to the right power source inside your enclosure (like a terminal block). This is where that wiring diagram from the manual comes in handy. Pay close attention to voltage (is it 12V DC, 120V AC, etc.?) and make sure your connections are positive-to-positive, negative-to-negative if it’s DC.
b) Safe Connections: Double-check that all electrical connections are tight, insulated, and properly terminated (no loose wires!).
c) Tidy Wires: Route the wiring neatly and securely. You don’t want it snagging on anything or getting in the way of other components.
Step 2.3: Putting the Enza Filter In
1. Slide in the Filter: Gently slide the Enza filter mat or cartridge into its designated slot within the fan unit.
· Direction Matters! Some filters, especially pleated ones, have an arrow showing which way the air should flow. Make sure you install it so the air flows through the filter and into the enclosure.
2. Close It Up: Snap or latch the outer grille or cover back into place. Most Enza panel fan units are designed for quick filter access, so it should be easy to secure.
Step 2.4: The Post-Installation Check
1. Quick Look-Over: Do a final visual check. Are all the connections tight? Are the screws secure? Is the Enza filter sitting correctly?
2. Power On: Carefully flip the power back on to your enclosure.
3. Test It Out: Turn on the fan.
· Listen: Hear any weird rattles or grinding? A smooth hum from your Enza fan is what you’re after.
· Feel: Can you feel air moving? For an intake fan, you should feel air being pulled in. For an exhaust fan, you should feel air being pushed out.
· Monitor Temp: If you can, keep an eye on the internal temperature of your enclosure after the Enza fan has been running for a bit to confirm it’s actually cooling things down.
Section 3: Keeping It Running — Essential Maintenance
Installation is a one-and-done deal, but maintenance is ongoing. Regular check-ups and cleanings are super important to stop those heat-related meltdowns and keep things running efficiently.
3.1: Your Regular Check-Up Schedule
· Weekly (for super important systems or really dusty spots): Just a quick peek at the Enza filter for obvious dust buildup.
Monthly (general good practice):
· Take a closer look at your Enza filters for dust loading.
· Check if the Enza fan is actually running and if the airflow feels strong.
· Listen for any odd noises from the Enza fan.
· Make sure the temperature inside your enclosure is still where it should be.
· Quarterly/Bi-Annually (depending on how dirty your environment is): A more thorough cleaning and possibly an Enza filter swap.
3.2: Cleaning Your Enza Filter or Swapping It Out
How often you clean or replace depends a lot on your environment (how much dust is floating around), how much your Enza fan runs, and the type of filter you have.
1. POWER OFF! Always, always disconnect power before you start messing with anything.
2. Access the Filter: Unlatch or unclip the outside cover to get to the Enza filter element.
3. Inspect the Filter:
a) Dust Check: Is the Enza filter visibly caked with dust or dirt? If so, it’s blocking airflow.
b) Damage Check: Look for any tears, holes, or signs that the Enza filter material is breaking down.
4. Clean or Replace?
a) Washable Filters: Some synthetic Enza filter mats can be washed. If yours is, gently wash it with warm, soapy water, rinse well, and let it air dry completely before putting it back. No harsh chemicals or scrubbing pads!
b) Disposable Filters: Most Enza panel filters are made to be tossed. Trying to clean them often just damages them and makes them useless.
c) When to Replace: If the Enza filter is super clogged, damaged, or can’t be cleaned properly, it’s time for a new one. Even washable filters don’t last forever. A good rule of thumb is to replace them annually, even if they look okay, because their dust-holding capacity and efficiency can degrade over time.
5. Clean the Fan Blades & Grille:
a) With the filter out, use a soft brush, a bit of compressed air (be careful not to blow dust into delicate parts), or a vacuum with a brush attachment to clean dust off the Enza fan’s blades, motor housing, and the grilles.
b) Make sure the blades can spin freely without obstruction.
6. Reassemble:
a) Slide the clean or new Enza filter back in, making sure it’s oriented correctly.
b) Secure the grille/cover.
7. Power On & Test: Flip the power back on and confirm your Enza fan is working as it should.
3.3: Pro Tips for Keeping Things Cool with Enza
· Temperature Monitoring: Consider putting temperature sensors inside your enclosure. Even better if they have alarms! This gives you real-time info on how well your thermal management is doing with your Enza cooling solutions.
· Preventative Swaps: For super critical systems, you might want to replace Enza fans proactively after a certain number of hours or years. Fan bearings can wear out, making them less efficient and prone to failure.
· Environmental Control: If you can, try to improve the air quality around your enclosures. Less dust in the air means less dust for your Enza filters to catch.
· Documentation: Jot down when you replace filters and maintain your fans. This helps you spot patterns and fine-tune your maintenance schedule.
