the fact that Neskantaga is still under a boil water advisory in 2024 is driving me insane.
Tumblr media
for context: Neskantaga First Nation is a small community in Ontario 436 km [270 miles] northeast of Thunder Bay and 180 km [111 miles] northeast of Pickle Lake. They have been under a boil water advisory since February 1995 - nearly 30 goddamned years.
Progress on a new water treatment plant has been ongoing. Neskantaga First Nation's original water treatment plant was built in 1993, but the journey for a new one has undergone numerous issues involving the government and contractors, as well as shoddy construction and hazardous spills.
Construction is still listed as underway with no ETA on the advisory being lifted.
Tumblr media
The Canadian Government perpetually drops the ball when it comes to safe water on reserves. In December 2023 the government introduced Bill C-61. It addresses clean drinking water across all First Nations communities, but Chief Chris Moonias of Neskantaga First Nation, the nation with the longest boil water advisory in the entirety of Canada, wasn't even consulted. The bill itself has also been met with much skepticism and criticism due to its vague wording, and rightfully so.
That said, despite the hells of the government there is some positive to be had. 144 long-term drinking water advisories have been lifted between November 2015 and January 2024.
Tumblr media
I like to hope the 2021 report from the Auditor General regarding Indigenous Services Canada and its shortcomings will give them insight on how to better optimize their management going forward. So far 2022 and 2023 has continued the downward trend with fewer and fewer long-term water advisories, but it's important to know if these completed projects are successful in guaranteeing clean water to these communities for the long-term future. Is ISC actually following up with proper support.
On February 1, 2024 Indigenous Services Canada posted a statement that the Minister of Indigenous Services has met with Neskantaga First Nation Chief Christopher Moonias to discuss resolving the water advisory and create a 12-point action plan. I know it's asking a Lot within 11 months, but I really really hope the Neskantaga community won't see their long-term water advisory hit 30 years.
In the meantime, Neskantaga First Nation receives donations through Gathering of Rivers for Community Care. If you're able, please consider donating.
thanks

Note
regarding the new appendix b of the isc, sorry if this is a stupid question, but is abuse defined in the code? i assume it would be things like vettel telling charlie whiting to fuck off on radio. or when horner described a marshal as 'rouge' for waving yellow flags in 2021
No, this is literally what it says in Appendix B
Tumblr media
“Any misconduct involving the abuse of officials”
So I double checked the ISC and it simply said this for article 12.2.1.l
Tumblr media
However this was a pre-existing thing in the ISC and this is from when they changed the ISC for 2024 (and it shines a little more light)
Tumblr media
Essentially these are all the “officials” where misconduct towards them could count as abuse
Horner’s rouge marshal comment in 2021 was deemed to be a breach of article 12.2.1.k (which is now 12.2.1.l) which is the misconduct towards officials.
They haven’t definitively said what would fall under it but I would guess behaviour towards the stewards/in the stewards room, aggressive comments about or to FIA staff.

beseda dne: mici (ekspresivno: majhen)

Prvi izmed zgoraj naštetih primerov uporablja pici mici adverbialno.

Facial Recognition and Privacy: Navigating Market Growth in Regulated World
The global facial recognition market size is expected to reach USD 15.84 billion by 2030 according to a new report by Grand View Research, Inc. The market is anticipated to expand at a CAGR of 14.9% from 2023 to 2030. Facial recognition is a contactless biometric solution that is a critical factor contributing the market growth. Contactless solutions enable easy deployment in consumer devices. It is also effortless and convenient to use, further contributing to rising adoption. Apart from individual identities, the technology can gather demographic data on crowds; thus, increasing its usability. Such factors are anticipated to drive market growth.
Tumblr media
Facial recognition is highly used for security and law enforcement applications, as it is led mainly by the need to combat terrorism and crime. For instance, in the U.S., 26 states permit law enforcement agencies to access facial recognition systems to perform searches against the databases of ID photos and driver’s licenses, to find drug dealers, bank robbers, amongst others who have left behind the images on social media platforms. Also, facial recognition CCTV systems are being used to improve performance in conducting public security missions, such as find missing children or adults, identifying and tracking criminals, and accelerating investigations. Furthermore, the trend of KYC (Know-Your-Customer) has undoubtedly boosted the growth of facial recognition in retail and marketing.
Facial Recognition Market Report Highlights
End-use industries have started integrating facial recognition into their business processes to streamline their operations. Facial recognition technology is gaining momentum as it assists end-user organizations to become more efficient and result-oriented. The growing adoption of facial recognition is encouraging new entrants to venture into the marketplace by offering niche application-specific products and solutions
In terms of technology, the 3D segment captured the largest revenue share in 2022. The technology is gaining popularity due to its attributes such as detection efficiency and high accuracy, which makes it suitable for high-security areas such as airports, education and research, retail, healthcare, and police services.
The banking and financial services industry is one of the major verticals for the deployment of facial recognition technology as consumers are increasingly transitioning towards mobile banking. Financial institutions use facial-recognition software to provide an additional layer of security to mobile banking applications to authenticate users
For More Details or Sample Copy please visit link @: Facial Recognition Market Report
Facial recognition technology is being combined with the latest marketing advancements to improve customer experience. For instance, in April 2021, Sberbank, a Russian banking company, is expanding its footprints in food delivery, taxi services, cloud computing, and cybersecurity. For this, the company launched facial recognition payments known as face pay to make payments using at a glance pay option during checkout. Thus, offering a quick payment service compared to paying with cash or a payment card. Therefore, the market has a vast opportunity in different verticals, including security and surveillance, healthcare, retail, and transportation. For another instance, in June 2019, Ayonix Corporation launched its IP camera-embedded application, namely the AICam Platform. The application can execute high-performance face detection and matching. The company demonstrated this product at the annual security technology conference called ISC West.
3D recognition is a newly emerging trend in the market for facial recognition that aims to provide more accuracy and better authentication. 3D facial recognition uses the unique characteristics of an individual’s face, such as the face curves, the shape of the nose, the chin, to identify the individual. With the introduction of 3D facial recognition, identification has taken a step toward recognizing an individual’s face even if it is dark and can identify the person at different angles (up to 90 degrees). Although 2D face recognition has made significant progress over the years, its accuracy and authenticity are highly dependent on the conditions of light and individual poses. For instance, Ayonix Corporation (Japan) is a developer of 3D face recognition technologies. It uses an algorithm that converts 2D still images or videos into data, which is then analyzed to reconstruct faces in 3D form. It also has a patented 3D recognition engine that captures a facial image and identifies critical points at the eyes, nose, and mouth. Besides, it can identify age, gender, and person-specific features from the image and match them from the images stored in databases to generate a matching score between 0.0 and 0.1.
The Asia Pacific (APAC) region is estimated to project the highest growth rate in the market. This is due to the increased adoption of facial recognition technology in different verticals. For instance, in September 2019, NEC Corporation, Japan-based biometry solutions provider, announced a partnership with Seven Bank, Ltd., a Japanese Bank, to develop ATMs that incorporate facial recognition technology. In addition to facial recognition technology, other technologies used for the development of ATMs include Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and QR codes. IoT and AI would help in detecting warning of component failures and predicting cash demand more accurately, which would further help in streamlining ATM operations.

US CPA Pass Rate: What You Need to Know
Tumblr media
Students eager to pursue commerce know the importance of passing a US CPA course. The rising demand for accountants in the US and worldwide impels students to appear for this globally recognised certification course.
Well, there is no doubt that the US CPA exam is popular, but the fear of passing the exam, the stringent scoring process, and the CPA pass rate often worry the students.
Why is the CPA Exam Tough to Pass?
Well, the curriculum and the exam syllabus changes and is updated from time to time. It is crucial to stay updated and avail the proper guidance and mentorship so you are not left behind while chasing professional goals. It is not only the complex nature of the exam and the strict scoring process which leads to the low CPA pass rate; there are other reasons we cannot avoid:
Students often half-heartedly prepare for the exams.
Often, working professionals taking the exam fail to give their best shot.
Candidates often get less time to prepare owing to their mainstream studies and other personal commitments affecting the results.
Important Points to Note About the US CPA Exam
Candidates need to sit for three core sections:
AUD
FAR
REG
and can choose any 1 from the following 3 sections:
BAR
ISC &
TCP
Please note that BEC, which was one of the three core exams, is no longer in the new format. Students preparing for US CPA 2024 must remember this!
Understanding CPA Pass Rate
A candidate has to sit for all 4 sections of the exam and score at least 75 in each section
When comparing the 2021 CPA exam pass rates to that of other years, keep in mind:
FAR is, by far, the toughest exam to crack, while BEC has a higher pass percentage. Though BEC is not a part of the three core exams, its contents have been redistributed in FAR and the AUD.
If we think of the average CPA pass rate, it will be somewhere between 45–50%.
A study of the CPA pass rate shows a dip in one section in one year and a rise in the next year. So, we cannot pinpoint or say these are easy-to-crack CPA exam sections. It depends on students’ skill set, knowledge-soaking power, and mental agility to grasp the course.
Study time, dedication, and hard work matter in choosing the specific quarters in a year to appear for the exam. Candidates tend to make mistakes in choosing the right quarter or season, which is attributed to the low pass percentage of the CPA exam.
Conclusion
Lastly, choosing an online coaching centre of repute proves crucial in passing the US CPA exam. With the right mentorship, guidance, and study materials, students get to shine in the professional world.

It’s not really an addition , it’s kind of been a rewording that makes things more vague if anything.
This was the previous iteration
Tumblr media
It specifically focused on misconduct, (unfortunately I can’t get the previous appendix B from the archives), but that has now become this
Tumblr media
It’s only in appendix B of the 2025 ISC it specifically mentions abuse of officials, which was previously covered by the old ISC article.
Tumblr media
As this is a pre existing regulation, you can kind of get a feel for where the line is, and the previous case (that I’m aware of) is when Christian Horner referred to a marshal waving a yellow flag in Qatar 2021 as a rouge marshal
Specifically he said “I think it's just a rogue marshall that stuck a flag out. He's not instructed to by the FIA, they've got to have control of the marshals. It's as simple as that.” - in this situation he also got called up for the article that ‘brings disrepute to the FIA’
So I would assume that it’d come down to things like overtly criticising the stewards, marshals, scrutineers etc
I think if it were a case of calling them stupid or someone not agreeing with their decision we would have seen a suspected breach of this regulation more recently (than 2021) as it’s been in the regulations for years, this is just them applying specific penalties for it now.
Tumblr media
Changes
Maximum penalties for drivers have been reduced by 50%, base maximum fine dropping from €10,000 to €5,000. The multiplier for different series is still in place
Stewards can now fully suspend a penalty for certain types of breaches if it's the driver's or team's first offence. This means that they could waive a penalty on a drivers first offence
New guidance differentiates between comments made in press conferences (controlled) and spontaneous remarks during a race (uncontrolled).
Abuse of Officials will now result in sporting penalties rather than fines.
Tumblr media
Additional guidance ensures mitigating circumstances are considered, promoting fair application of rules across all FIA World Championships.
Racial and discriminatory comments will continue to be addressed firmly
Stewards will retain the supreme authority to decide which penalty to impose in the event of a breach of the ISC
