Tulip and Octavia both have divorced parents that interfere with their lives and plans. Both run away from home and have “adventures” that change how they perceive said parent. And both deal with a parent who makes a promise to them only to go back on that promise due to said divorce.

Life is fine. Life is great. Tulip and Octavia both have happy home lives with their family. And the divorce/cheating happens seemingly out of nowhere, but that’s because of how rose-tinted Tulip and Octavia’s memories are of their homelife.

It’s when Tulip goes back to her memories and really looks at them that she sees the cracks and imperfections, and learns the accept the situation with more nuance and maturity. And when Octavia goes back to remember, she’ll see the cracks too.

(Imagining a song “Why couldn’t You/We be happy?” where at first she sings about her confusion at her dad suddenly cheating on her mom, and then starts to look closer at the imperfections and starts to sing “Why couldn’t We be happy?”)

(Gee, I dunno [looks at Stella])

(“Was that always there? Did I just not see? Was I really that blind to the cracks and chips in front of me? We were held together by threads, breaking one by one. Now it’s all slipping away, and I’m all alone.”

“Star light, star bright, give me strength, grant me sight.”)

Sinmas and the Future

In Sinmas, I am certain Octavia is going to gain the full powers of a Goetia- hell, Sinmas might even fall on her birthday and now I am willing to bet money it does (which especially bums her and Stolas out even more). She becomes the heir and apparent through age, blood and magic.

And that’s what’s going to set off Andrealphus, because it just got that much harder to use Stolas’ resources and, in his rage, he goes to kill Blitz and Stolas.

Octavia (and potentially Vassago) protects them, and they are able to escape. And seeing Blitz protect her powerless power is absolutely going to stay in Octavia’s mind, no matter how she might dislike him and potentially Imp-kind.

I see Vassago actually becoming an ally to Octavia and helping her navigate through the treacherous world of Goetia Nobility, especially with Stella and Andrealphus trying to control her every move. And through him, Octavia gets lore on Stolas and Stella and realizes just how different things were from what she realized. And during all of that, Octavia will come into her own, free of illusion and strong enough to face whatever comes her way.

As for Stella, I am most definirely certain Octavia will come to disdain of her mother without knowing the full story behind the abuse she heaped on Stolas purely from Stella being much less on guard of her behavior around her daughter. After all, she thinks she’s won and abusers let their true self slip more and more when they are in a comfortable place of power over their victim. Not to mention Octavia rejecting her abusive and manipulative mother of her own volition and reasons would be that much more powerful.

(I relate deeply to Octavia in this, because I've been in the position of my dad being demonized and abused by my bio mom and I didn't know what had been going on for the longest time, due to ignorance and denial. Which is why I'm certain that Octavia will return to her dad after learning the truth)

Sidebar tangent:

While I do want Octavia and Stolas to make up, I want Octavia to be and stay angry with/at him for as long as she needs. I say this as someone who loves this silly horny owl and is most likely my favorite character in Helluva Boss

BUT GODDAMMIT STOLAS YOU ARE SUCH A FUCKING AIRHEAD YOU NEED TO TOUCH PEASANT GRASS AND WALK SEVERAL MILES IN PEASANT SHOES

There’s plenty for Octavia and the audience to be pissed at Stolas for, and he’s not made it easy for me not to shake him like a gumball machine and yell at him not to be like this.

Be that as it may, I am certain the two will eventually make up but my god they both need time and space from one another to breath and grow. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, after all. And it’s good for character development.
