the moment you step into the apartment, you feel the weight of the week press down on your shoulders. your bag slips off with a dull thud, and you exhale deeply, running a hand through your hair.

the stress of nonstop studying, sleepless nights, and back-to-back exams has drained you completely. before you can even take another step, you hear him.

“hey darling, you're back!”

joshua’s voice is soft, like a melody you never get tired of hearing. within seconds, he’s standing in front of you, eyes scanning your face with concern. he doesn’t ask any questions, doesn’t need to. he already knows.

you don’t even realize how much you need him until his arms wrap around you. the second he pulls you into his chest, the tension in your body vanishes into thin air. you bury your face into his hoodie, inhaling the faint scent of him— clean, warm, and so Josh.

his hands rub slow, soothing circles against your back. “rough week's over, isn't it?" you nod against him, unable to find the words.

he holds you tighter. “i’m proud of you, you know.”

your fingers clutch at the fabric of his hoodie, like you’re holding onto him to keep yourself grounded. “i don’t even know if i did well,” you whisper, voice small.

joshua pulls back just enough to cup your face, his thumbs brushing over your cheeks. “hey,” he murmurs, his tone so gentle it makes your heart ache. “you worked so hard. that’s what matters, okay? no matter what happens, i'm still so proud of you.”

your eyes sting, exhaustion making you more emotional than usual. he notices, of course—Joshua always notices. without hesitation, he leans in and presses a soft, lingering kiss to your forehead.

“come on,” he says, lacing his fingers with yours. “you haven’t eaten properly all week, have you?”

you hesitate. “…maybe?”

he sighs, but there’s amusement in his eyes. “that’s what i thought.” he tugs you toward the couch. “i made your favorite. after we eat, we’re watching a movie—your choice. no thinking allowed.”

a small laugh escapes you, the first real one in days. “you planned all this?”

“i know my girl,” he grins, squeezing your hand. “and i know she deserves to be taken care of. so now sit here and lean on me. i'll take care of everything else."

you let him guide you to the couch, where a blanket is already waiting, and for the first time all week, you let yourself relax. because with joshua, you are safe. you are home.
