What are the titles of said rewrites? I’d personally would love to see a rewrite where Makoto, Hajime and Shuichi die, especially when others struggle without them.

Like I’ve said, I haven’t seen and SDR2 rewrites, but here are the other rewrites I’ve read! (not including non-despair AUs, of course)

DR1

Never Say Never (FFN) by @hunterofcomedy is phenomenal. I can’t begin to describe how amazing it is plot-wise, as well as introducing some twists that I wouldn’t have even thought of. A common theme with DR1 rewrites is the presence of Mukuro, and this fic honestly nails it. (Ongoing)

They also wrote The Ultimate Hope which is technically a rewrite, and is hilarious. This one is a oneshot due to the nature of the rewrite, but it’s totally worth a read.

Dangan Ronpa: Again (FFN) is unique in that it’s a rewrite, technically; only, this time, Makoto could’ve sworn he and his five fellow survivors had just escaped! It’s really great, and focuses on a relative rarepair, and makes you wonder what the heck is happening (in a good way). (Ongoing)

NDRV3

In Our Hands (FFN) is a rewrite with the twist of adding an OC- the other survivor from Rantaro’s game. I really like the interactions portrayed throughout this, and it’s still being updated, too. So far, the trials keep me guessing again and again! (Ongoing)

Three-Point Shot (FFN), starting right after the first death, is one of my favorite rewrites to date. Along with having a completely unpredictable plot, this fic is actually one where both protags live. It’s extremely well-written to the very end. (Complete)

And of course, there’s I’d Trade My Life For Yours (AO3), which was just recently completed and is one that I’m sure most of the fandom knows about. I read the heck out of this the moment I knew it existed, and have been following it ever since. It’s truly an enjoyable read even though it made me cry a couple times (Complete)

And finally, there’s An Encore from My Crying Heart (AO3) by @kirastrations, which is still ongoing. I found this one most recently, and I’ve been in love since the first chapter. I’m still not completely caught up, but I’m always kept guessing during the trials and can’t wait to see how it finishes! (Ongoing)

BONUS

Extra Life (FFN) by @the-apocryphal-one​ is essentially a rewrite of what happens after the Despair Arc of DR3, and I can honestly say it’s one of my favorite fics with Chiaki and Izuru in the forefront. The companion, Expansion Pack, was completed recently, and is also truly amazing. (Complete)

Man not to Vent on Main but I was scrolling through the tags again and stumbled upon some people who just don't like Shuichi, and it's like. Like yeah feel free to dislike him or criticize his character and all, sure, if you wanna interpret him like that--but I like to think of Shuichi as a good-hearted, good-natured person who does care about the people around him, even if he doesn't understand them. He's trying, he's growing and learning, and that is more important than most people give him credit for.

I don't like to think of characters from V3 in negative lights anymore. I think that does them and their character arcs a disservice to think of these characters in such a malicious way--especially the protagonist, who while flawed, is trying his best out there.

It's really disheartening to see that. Especially since I personally relate to Shuichi's insecurities so much as someone who does struggle with imposter syndrome and anxiety and depression.

Oh god I’m thinking about the angst potential the implications of these two scenes have.

Because you know all those Oumota VR AU angst fics where Kaito has nightmares about Kokichi dying? Imagine that in the NDRV3/ITMLFY VR AU where Kaito has memories of both games that get mixed up in his head.

Imagine Kaito having a nightmare about killing Kokichi, the scene playing out in his head. But when nightmare gets to the part where Kokichi is under the press & tells Kaito to push the button instead of hearing Kokichi say he’s ready Kaito hears Kokichi’s speech from ITMLFY’s version of chapter 4 where he begs Kaito not to kill him.

And the press comes down & all the while Kokichi’s saying that Kaito isn’t a killer that he won’t kill him right until the press flattens him to nothing.

And then imagine when Kaito wakes up from the nightmare & he can’t get his memories of what happened where straight, can’t remember if he killed Kokichi because Kokichi told him to or if he killed Kokichi despite him begging Kaito not to.

And then imagine Kaito thinking it almost doesn’t matter what memory happened where because Kokichi believed that Kaito wouldn’t kill him & Kaito ended up killing him anyway.

Can you imagine it? Can you imagine it?

What headcanons or events would you have if the DRV3 survivor trio and the ITMLFY survivor trio (not...counting Tsumugi, I suppose) met?

Um. Emotionally loaded ones probably lol

Neither trio was entirely sure how they were meeting, but it was a stark reminder to them all that if even one thing had changed, their fates would be entirely different.

It was…definitely emotional for all of them, especially Kaede and Shuichi, since they quickly figured out that they were the catalysts for their universes’ different events.

Apart from that, they didn’t really talk about what happened too much. None of them wanted to remember if they didn’t have to, so they found other things to talk about when they could.

Tenko and Maki were perhaps the two most protective of the trios, though naturally none of them wanted to separate. Though if they were all in a group, that was okay.

It was obvious that they were all very different people than the ones they remembered, though. It was…a shame. But that was life; the dead couldn’t be brought back to life.
