So many things! I'd never written a word of smut before February this year; I'd never written M/M, I'd never written a longfic or collaborated in fandom writing events. I also barrelled into drawing smut, pushing myself to fun new places with my art and even doing a little bit of animation.

Also I like, joined discord to start a Geraldus server and made a load of friends in the process. It's been a fun year!

The Harper & The Tower, my Rolan x Geraldus longfic, which I finally completed a few weeks ago but started way back at the end of February. 155k words, making it my longest fic ever and probably the longest thing I've written to date.

I wrote a few lil snippet-y things, so it's probably a tie between Dandelions (Lorin x The Thief) and Alas, Poor Jaymes (onesided Gortash > Waiter Jaymes)

I’ve always aspired to be a notable illustrator, but I always get shy or anxious about sharing my work on the internet or in general especially now with the whole AI art controversy happening, but I do want to build myself up.

What is your advice about sharing an artist’s work?

Hey Retrorubus, thank you so much for the supportive words. Always really encouraging for me to hear from folks like you. AI worries: AI image-scraping is a reality we're going to have to live with from now on. If you're relatively obscure you don't have much to worry about, but artists with bigger brands will more likely be targeted by the Abominable Intelligence. Art theft and piracy have always existed, now it just got worse... But not insurmountable. Remember that AI can only imitate human creations. AI can't imitate what hasn't yet been created. It can't live the life you've had, the sorrows and joys which shaped the art and characters that live in your mind, waiting to be made. Anxiety about sharing art online: Generally I think you should go ahead and start posting some work online, but start small by posting it to only 1 or 2 platforms at first just to get used to it. Try to stick to a schedule too, like picking 1-3 days a week that you'll post a new drawing on even if it's just a sketch. You'll realize soon that there's little to be anxious about. If anyone leaves nasty comments, just ignore or block them. They're never worth your attention when there's so many other good people out there worth getting to know. Don't feel like you have to publicly post everything you draw. I only share about 15% of what I've drawn. The rest is either on my Patreon or unreleased comic pages. If you're still fairly beginner/intermediate with your skill level, don't stress yourself out over getting a big followings or engagement - that all naturally comes with skill, persistence and time. What helped me a LOT when I was new was hanging out on illustration forums and art/animation-themed IRC chats where I could get to know peers in a more chill environment and share our progress on various projects. So yeah, small, art-focused Discord servers or Telegram chats with artists who share your interests might be a good option to look into. Finally, don't worry about being a notable illustrator, just focus on being a good one. Create whatever is truly meaningful and important to you, and you'll have renown among a truly loyal and appreciative following. Anyways I hope this helps. Hello Pizza Tower and/or Celeste community on Tumblr(preferably both) And welcome, to this very rough and work in progress blog for Berry-bel Bakery! This is a Pizza Tower X Celeste Alternative Universe(though in tags and the url you'll notice I refer to it as "crack fiction" cus I think that sounds cooler) that combines elements and characters from both games to make new weird and wacky things! Rather than having both worlds directly cross over. Oh there's also a lot of pie. 🥧 The concept of crossing over Celeste and Pizza Tower isn't exactly new, and this is most definitely inspired by that whole trend of having Peppino and Madeline interact with each other for funsies back in February; but with a deeper twist to it that I came up with after thinking way too hard about how a more silly Madeline would both act and play like in Pizza Tower esque scenarios(with some light Sugary Spire inspiration). Speaking of which...

The girl you see with her fists balled up over her mouth and giving you a worried look is none other than Maribel Syrup, the protagonist of this story! She's supposed to be a mix of Madeline and Peppino's traits, if you couldn't tell. Whereas Peppino is a chef running his own pizzeria, and Madeline bakes a pie for her friends after her climb, Maribel is a Canadian baker specializing in pies who owns her own bakery in a town home to a legendary, yet flat volcano shaped like a pie. She even has orange hair meant to somewhat resemble a pumpkin to fit this theme further, and her outfit(seen below) has call-backs to both of her inspirations! She's on a mission to investigate and climb through this volcano after suddenly having several disturbing and horrifying nightmares with mysterious messages telling her to go there. The volcano, while unnamed currently, is meant to embody how Mt. Celeste and the Pizza Tower work for their respective protags; A food themed mountain with possible risk of boiling over.

I came up with this idea back in May of 2023, and have continually fleshed out the idea since then. I've shared quite a bit about this on the Celestegame subreddit and various small discord servers, but thought about creating a Tumblr for a more ease-of-use central hub for me to post to; while also showing the AU to new faces(like you, probably) that'll motivate me to work on this even more. You'll see me post art of various characters and locations, as well as the occasional illustrated gameplay idea on this blog. It is a far out dream of mine to turn this into a fangame Sugary Spire style, but I'm going to wait on getting down to that once I have better knowledge of GML and have completed some smaller Pizza Tower projects to boost my motivation and create better work habits.

first post, here goes nothing

heya, hi, howdy and whatnot. i go by sol, and i like making vidya gaems. started taking it more seriously when the pandemic hit and have made a couple games for jams since then, but nothing major. today changes this? at least, i hope i don't end up crashing and burning at the end of it all. what i mean is that, i'm starting my first actual major project. shocker, i know. i'm usually very hesitant to announce things i'm working on so early in development, but i figured having some sort of devlog would be useful, if not interesting. besides, i've been sharing progress through various discord servers i'm a part of, and it'd be nice to just streamline it all through here. i did try out twitter, but i'm not the biggest fan of it. i tend to be pretty damn wordy too, as you can see. now, i bet you're dying to know: what's this all about? well, i typed up a bit of a pseudo-faq (in the sense that i don't get a lot of frequently asked questions). time to switch over to actual proper grammar for this one ~~~

*What is this?

PROJECT DIAMOND (Working Title) is a tactical role-playing game with an emphasis on baseball. Craft and command the team of your dreams to achieve fame and glory while working closely with your comrades to solve a mystery. It is heavily inspired by games such as Persona, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, and a bit of Sonic to boot.

The game is split up into two segments: tactics and social.

Tactics consists of your typical turn based strategy with some of the rules of baseball applied. The objective is to tag all of the bases on the field before your opponent does, rather than just wiping out enemies. "Combat" is a means, rather than an end.

Social consists of exploring the region around you and helping your fellow teammates and friends with their problems. It is also where you teambuild in between matches.

More info will be provided as mechanics are fleshed out.

*Who's all working on this?

It's just me for now. I am not currently seeking help on the project right now either, but I might consider it in the future.

*When is this coming out?

I can't give an estimated time of release as I'm largely working on this as a hobby. I do want to try and get a first draft playable demo out as soon as I get all of the major mechanics in place. May not ever come out, who knows?

*How far into development are you?

I've conceptualized a skeleton of the project's story and gameplay for almost two years now, but I've only started seriously working on it in June. As of right now, the tactics side of gameplay is being developed.

*What are you using to make it?

The game is currently being developed in the lovely Godot Engine. I'm also using other tools, like Blender and Paint.NET. ~~~ and there you have it! i'll be filling out the blog with some of the stuff i've shared over the past month or so. i hope you come along for the ride!

A Bit of Transparency

I'm sure y'all have noticed that this blog hasn't been very active in the past month or so. I wanted to come forward and provide a bit of insight to what's been happening behind the scenes, while also discussing where we'll go from here.

TLDR; I've been unmotivated to provide new content to share recently for a variety of reasons, and I've run out of items from my backlog to share. This backlog includes the Origins fic, which I have to put on hiatus for now. I don't know when I'll begin uploading at a more consistent schedule. Until then, I'm opening up a Discord server to have a more casual and direct way of chatting with y'all and bringing you a larger variety of content.

Why Hasn't the Blog been Very Active Recently?

Well... it's complicated. This blog was never really built on the strongest foundations, even if it seemed to be before I went on a soft hiatus.

I came up with the idea behind this AU and made this blog on a whim in the midst of a semi-manic episode. For a few weeks I had an unhealthily strong creative drive and pumped out at least two sketch pages a day, while also working on larger illustrations for this blog and other projects. I also wrote around 200 pages of various fanfic in that time too.

In short, I had no plan and was creating at an unsustainable pace. As I worked, I did eventually come up with a plan for this blog, but ended up burning out before I could begin to actually progress towards the end goal I set.

This burnout wasn't helped by the current state of affairs with this blog. It grew much more rapidly than I was expecting early on, and the fairly high amount of engagement I was getting ended up weaving with my enthusiasm for creating this art. For a while, with both of those incentives in place, I had no problem cranking out content to share. However, more recently... both of those incentives have waned.

Now, I want to be clear: I'm not trying to complain about the number of notes my more recent posts have been getting, and I'm not going to whine about people engaging with my inbox less- I'm just trying to say that the relatively low engagement recently is one of the several factors that has led to me neglecting this blog.

The last nail in the coffin for my creative drive, though, has been my mental health recently. Please don't worry about me, I have all the resources I need, but as of late I've had very poor mental and emotional stamina, and it's made content creation a lot more challenging for me. I haven't been making nearly as presentable artwork, and I've been struggling to find the bandwidth to write. So... and god, I hate to say it, but...

The Origins Fic is Going on a Hiatus

I never wanted to have to do this. It was my goal to always have a few chapters ready to post ahead of time just in case I fell into a rut like I did, but I've run out of the backlog I had built up and just don't have anything else to post for now. I've been trying to work on the next few chapters, believe me, but it's been hard while I deal with my mental health issues.

The Origins fic is currently at a bit of a transition point. We're entering the rising action, and I've been struggling enough to structure its foundation- never mind drafting the next chapter. I don't know how long it'll take me to work out the plot structure and get back into the swing of drafting and editing, and so... I don't know how long the fic will be on hiatus. I don't want to call it "indefinite", but it's the only fitting word.

For now, the Origins fic is on an indefinite hiatus.

And it's not the only thing I've been struggling with.

I'm not Content with the State of this AU

There are a number of things I am no longer happy with when it comes to this AU. I don't want to pull out the exhaustive list here, but one of the reasons I've struggled with posting is that I'm not sure how much I want to change, how people would take retcons and redesigns, and so on.

And it's not just the characters, lore, locations, and such that I'm not content with... it's the medium in which I've been sharing them that's been grating on me recently. The format of a Tumblr blog has left some things to be desired for me. For one, I feel the need to talk in this semi-professional tone, and keep myself at an arms length from y'all to moderate this space. It's tiring for me. I'm a very stream-of-consciousness, casual person, and I love chatting with people on an equal playing field. I also like attention, and sharing WIP's, and basically- I've been pining for a way to shoot the shit with all of you in a different medium than this blog. I think I know the best way to do this.

An Official Voidhog Discord Server

Now, let's make this clear: I'm not deleting or abandoning this blog. I just want a different, more casual way to chat about this AU and share my work. I kind of hope that by opening up this channel of communication, I'll rekindle my interest in working on this AU again.

Why? Because I work best when I can interact with my audience directly. I actually prefer Discord over Tumblr as an art sharing medium in general. Here's the kind of content I can offer a lot more frictionlessly there that I haven't been offering here:

Thank you! I had fun doing all the Tickletober pieces (masterlist here). Art makes the rounds so much more easily than fic; the top note-grabbers in that batch easily outperformed my typical note count by 10x. I do have some stray ideas floating around for other artwork, though writing is still where my passion lies so don't expect me to stop anytime soon. :)
