I spent the last 11 months working with my illustrator, Marta, to make the children's book of my dreams. We were able to get every detail just the way I wanted, and I'm very happy with the final result. She is the best person I have ever worked with, and I mean, just look at those colors!

I wanted to tell that story of anyone's who ever felt that they didn't belong anywhere. Whether you are a nerd, autistic, queer, trans, a furry, or some combination of the above, it makes for a sad and difficult life. This isn't just my story. This is our story.

I also want to say the month following the book's launch has been very stressful. I have never done this kind of book before, and I didn't know how to get the word out about it. I do have a small publishing business and a full-time job, so I figured let's put my some money into advertising this time. Indie writers will tell you great success stories they've had using Facebook ads, so I started a page and boosting my posts.
Within a first few days, I got a lot of likes and shares and even a few people who requested the book and left great reviews for me. There were also people memeing on how the boy turns into a delicious venison steak at the end of the book. It was all in good fun, though. It honestly made made laugh. Things were great, so I made more posts and increased spending.

But somehow, someway these new posts ended up on the wrong side of the platform. Soon, we saw claims of how the book was perpetuating mental illness, of how this book goes against all of basic biology and logic, and how the lgbtq agenda was corrupting our kids.
This brought out even more people to support the book, so I just let them at it and enjoyed my time reading comments after work. A few days later, then conversation moved from politics to encouraging bullying, accusing others of abusing children, and a competition to who could post the most cruel image. They were just comments, however, and after all, people were still supporting the book.
But then the trolls started organizing. Over night, I got hit with 3 one-star reviews on Amazon. My heart stopped. If your book ever falls below a certain rating, it can be removed, and blocked, and you can receive a strike on your publishing account. All that hard work was about to be deleted, and it was all my fault for posting it in the wrong place.
I panicked, pulled all my posts, and went into hiding, hoping things would die down. I reported the reviews and so did many others, but here's the thing you might have noticed across platforms like Google and Amazon. There are community guidelines that I referenced in my email, but unless people are doing something highly illegal, things are rarely ever taken down on these massive platforms. So those reviews are still there to this day. Once again, it's my fault, and I should have seen it coming.
Luckily, the harassment stopped, and the book is doing better now, at least in the US. The overall rating is still rickety in Europe, Canada, and Australia, so any reviews there help me out quite a lot. I'm currently looking for a new home to post about the book and talk about everything that went into it. I also love to talk about all things books if you ever want to chat. Maybe I'll post a selfie one day, too. Otherwise, the book is still on Amazon, and the full story and illustrations are on YouTube as well if you want to read it for free.

This headache was killing you and you had absolutely no idea what to do about it. It’s been happening for well over a week, making it feel impossible to do anything when it throbbed in your skull. You thought it was a migraine, but it came and went too frequently to be that. You thought maybe you’d been listening to your music too loud, but it didn’t go away when you stopped entirely to test it out.
You were losing it and only had pain to keep you company. So you decided to hop on the internet instead of asking your doctor boyfriend because the last thing you want to do is bother him about something a quick search may answer.
And you didn’t want to be grilled about why you waited so long to say something.
When you typed in what are the reasons I could be experiencing headaches so often, the last thing you expected was to go down a rabbit hole. You’d done most of the things suggested, frowning as you rubbed at your temple while the insistent thumping persisted. You were convinced that the mindless scrolling and lack of answers was only adding to your suffering.
It was as you scrolled that other things started to fit into what could possibly be wrong, and that’s when the subtle panic started to set in.
Chronic pain?
Fatigue and insomnia?
Tumors?!?!
You were mortified, clicking on random conversations people were having about the same experience and feeling your heart rate increase when almost everyone was saying it’s safer to just go to a doctor because it could be a severe underlying issue. You didn’t want to have to go, but at this point, you needed to do something to give yourself some sort of peace of mind.
You came to the conclusion that in fact, you were going to have to bother Zayne. Frantically, you snatched your phone off the desk and called him, your leg bouncing in anticipation.
“Hello, love,” he spoke gently after picking up on the third ring. You were so relieved he even had the time to answer since he’s at the hospital right now. Typically, you never bother him too much when he’s working, but you needed answers.
He sits himself in the chair in his office, ready to listen to you. “Is everything alright?”
“No!” you exclaim abruptly. “Zayne, I’m not gonna make it!”
If only you could see his face, you would’ve seen the confusion and concern that etched his features. “What are you talking about? Are you hurt?”
“I’ve been in pain for over a week because of these stupid headaches, right? And so to avoid bothering you, I just decided to do my own research….” Your brief silence only makes it more dramatic. “And Zayne, I actually might be dying and I’m bothering you anyways!”
“You’re not bothering me at all. If anything, I’m worried. Calm down and talk to me,” he soothes. “Tell me your symptoms.”
“It’s this sharp pain either right in the middle of my forehead or to the left of my skull. It hurts so much that I feel nauseous sometimes. It’s even happening right now, and the internet and little groups on it are telling me if I don’t see somebody, I’m ignoring a potential chronic illness?!?! There’s no way this is real!”
“How have you tried to alleviate the headaches?” His tone is completely serious, telling you how determined he is to find a solution to ease your concerns and issues. He wishes you told him sooner, but all that matters is that he’s aware now. He doesn’t need to make you feel guilty, he just wants to help you in any way he can.
“I stopped listening to music, drank tea, turned down my phone brightness! I even go to bed earlier! Google is telling me if I don’t go to the ER within three days of the pain, I could experience blurry vision! Babe, it’s been way longer than that!”
The corner of his mouth tilts up. You listed everything but what he first believed to be the culprit. He caught you. “Working yourself up like this will only worsen it. Remember what we’ve done before? Deep breaths.”
Zayne always helped you regulate yourself in times when you’d panic, and he felt it was necessary to do now. Once a few minutes passed and you seem grounded, he continued. “And what about your game that you just bought a little over a week ago? The timeline in which you’ve purchased it seems to match up to when your headaches began. Have you stopped playing and sitting in front of the screen for long periods of time like I warned you about?”
When the realization sets in, you immediately feel like an idiot. You recently bought this new video game that you couldn’t stop playing, and unfortunately developed the habit of sitting close to the computer screen so that you could feel immersed and wore no protection on your eyes from the blue light.
You spend a minimum of five hours a day on it, that’s how addicted you became. Not once did it cross your mind to get off the same game.
“It’s the game,” you frown, sighing at your naivety.
“It is the game,” he confirms. “It’s good that we’ve figured that out, is it not? Why do you sound so down? Is it because you’ll need to give it a break for a while?”
“Partially, but I’m more embarrassed at how quick I was to believe some internet forums instead of just coming to my boyfriend who’s a doctor… I didn’t want to be annoying, only to still be that and I ended up freaking myself out in the process. I’m a mess.”
“You were trying to be considerate of me, but that’s not necessary. Concerns about your health is never something to withhold from me. In general, you never annoy me, love. I will always be here to listen to your every word and make sure to bring you back down.”
“I’m so sorry..” you mumble.
“Don’t apologize. Just instill the practice of finding other things that are easy on your eyes while you leave the game alone for a little bit. Perhaps I can help you find something.”
“I’d like that.” Your tone is brighter and no where near as anxiety induced. “You’ll be home soon?”
“I will. In fact, make sure you’re dressed. We’ll go out for dinner to celebrate,” he offers.
“You’re too good to me. I can’t wait.” You grin so much and he doesn’t even need to see you to know it. He can hear it and that warms his heart.
“It’s what I’m supposed to do. I love you, okay? And come to me when you have health scares from now on. The internet is only so reliable.”
You chuckle. “I will, babe. Promise. I love you, too. I’ll see you later.”
After a few days had passed, you made sure that you followed the doctor’s orders. As expected, the headaches disappeared and not only did you vow to only play the game in moderation, but you would never go to the internet for health advice ever again.

hello peonyb. i read an ask, where someone mentioned, that dark marked ones would make good interrogators and light marked ones would be good healers/oracles with no connections to the clergy. that let to my 2 questions:
1.) since both dark and light marked ones seem valuable to the crown, do those ones get secret benefits from "anonymous sponsor"? like scholarships or early promotions? ==> if not in the present days, maybe in the past?
2.) do dark/light marked ones have some kind of reputation in the eyes of the public/enemies/other marked ones? for example: if dark marked ones are known to be interrogators of the crown, would people stop their private conversations as soon as one walks pass them? or would there be rumors in military camps like "beware of the dark ones, they eat your souls and then you will walk eternally as a soulless husk". ==> again, if not in the present days, maybe in the past?
i hope, its clear what i mean. im always worried that im not able to explain it clear enough. thank you for your answer
3.) ive read that you need to have 20 strength to be (somewhat) successfull during the "attack venali"-scene. how are you able to reach that? i know that the "mapping out the mountains"-hobby gives you +5 strength.
4.) similar question, but this time later in the game. at some point Mc´s history teacher asks them something about their own kingdom. in my case i was only able to choose the "worst" option. i assume that with higher intellect you could unlock the other ones. once again: how can you increase intellect & what are the thresholds for unlocking the other options?
5.) this is not really a question. so whenever i have to choose a body type or a dress in an IF i usually google for an example of that, simply to be able to imagine my character better. when i googled for the other body types, i was able to find examples, but not when i searched for "shapely". could you maybe explain how a shapely body look like?
6.) im sure that the game explains this at some point, so i probably missed it, but what are the differences between a guardian and a mage of the same affinity? can they use the same spells?

Hey! I couldn’t respond to your other ask so I added it to this one.
(1) Sorta kind’ve lol. The Crown’s councilors get directly involved and are aware of every light and dark affinity that enters the Golden Academy and monitor them over the years. Depending on where their specialities lie (light in precog or healing, dark in offense or subtle espionage), specific counselors vie amongst one another for them to get integrated into their pillar. They don’t need to entice the person when they have no choice in the matter.
Unlike other graduates, light/dark affinities aren’t sent offers that they can stress over and make a pros and cons list in their consideration. They’re told where they’re going as the choice has already been made for them. The one positive side is that the position will always be a prestigious one that they’ve been hand picked for. The only exception is if they don’t do well in the Golden Academy. Like Dean Ofarus. They were too easy going and lazy for their purposes lol.
(2) “They eat your souls,” hahaha. Fortunately there’s nothing like that in spaces that frequently see Marked! It’s as Velrose said, Navaarians are taught that every affinity is a gift from Brakkus meant to serve the people. Dark affinities are not automatically cruel just as light affinities are not automatically saintly. They’re more complex than that. And amongst other Marked, the two are generally envied. Some may think they have a golden ticket to the best occupations. Now, in really small villages with unmarked who rarely if ever interact with Marked, there will probably be some misguided opinions.
(3) You have to be a Guardian (+10) and you have to work with your father on the farm (+10) in your spare time. It wouldn’t be possible to breach their shield otherwise. Venali may be young at the time, but they’re still a second generation mage that regularly trains their magic!
(4) The first choice is open, the second is (>=10) and (>=20) though 20 is the max. Mage gets a (+10) and reading as your activity gets (+5). I can’t remember where the last narrative (+5) is, but one of the market potions gives (+5) as well.
(5) For me, I view shapely as in between average and curvy. Like, a full and defined shape. I’ll add photos under the cut.
(6) A Guardian’s magic is internal and a Mage’s external. Guardians best use their magic through conduction. They can exert their magic into anything they touch whether that’s a fire Guardian incinerating anything or anyone they touch or a water Guardian (honorable mention Welling) using their magic to prevent them and another from getting wet from the rain. They use conducting swords (and now daggers) to enhance the range of that magic.
Mages summon their magic outside of themselves which means they have to see what they wish to target. Their magic is harder to call because while Guardians can simply push it out, Mages have to meticulously maintain their focus to sustain it away from themselves. A fire Mage couldn’t incinerate someone with a touch, they would have to manifest their magic and direct it towards a target. Because they use their magic so differently, their spells aren’t quite the same!

YET another MazM update.
SO @clawtistic sent this article in an archive server. I google translated everything to get a few key points.
A. MazM is gonna continue this minimalist no gameplay style for their next few titles. We have names such as dracula, little women, hamlet etc lined up.
B. Black Cat is slated for release at the end of november or so.
Guys. I have a bad feeling about this. I know like half their employees left after the great hns/tc apocalypse but jesus christ. They said theyre prioritizing characters/story + they felt in the past they fucked up by making it too gamelike but it didnt fit so thats why theyre ditching the gamplay. BUT JEEEEEEESUSSSS CHRIIIIIST!!! What's even the point of playing anymore if we can just read the books? I know the gameplay was minimal in the past but the yellow bricks/heartless gameplay was like. Way better.
I honestly think this is just an excuse to cover for the fact they're losing employees. Longform projects like thy creature or pechka have the downside of needing to give their employees a steady income while theyre in production so at least with shorter ones the balance of budget and time is easier to handle. But i honestly, HONESTLY. Don't think this is good. This feels like a decline in quality that I hate to see. A longform novel like dracula deserves the care that thy creature got. Dracula id argue is the one novel that should have gameplay elements similar to rpgmaker horror or point and click because the story in if itself is a gameish plot (they have multiple objectives and a final boss). But if they snipe that... and make it into a flat visual novel... idk man.
Thy creature had a very trouble production. What with the writing being kinda bad and the employees being rushed to finish a deadline. (Source is from Crack and Mahas twitter. They left the company due to overwork). Its clear they didnt recieve as much revenue as the money they spent on it in the first place which sucks! The art, music, and gameplay are all pretty good all things considered, and the early access version was on the brink of being something super good. I think they mustve felt an obligation to hurry up because they kept pushing their deadlines, but it shouldn't have been at the expense of their employees. I personally wouldve waited years just so they could get a product they could be happy with.
We have to speak with our wallets and our tongues. PLEASE if you can, tell your friends to play their games, increase conversation. Shill like youve never shilled before! If youre in the server, make suggestions about how you want the games to be like, what satisfys you or not. We may be small but our interlaced community is what gives us power. They already make their games free for us regardless of if we have to watch ads or not. This is the least we can do for them.
