i just cannot get my brain around why the state of Indiana will not outright legalize weed. they're doing like quantum steps through making cbd oil products ok for a few years, then suddenly i see certain delta whatever things for sale and look it up and it's a tiny amount of thc or something like. guys. c'mon.
Indiana government loves tax revenue!!! Indiana loves running on a surplus!! You get to be smug and celebratory about it! And the casinos are underperforming since we're in a recession and one has even had to close recently, why aren't you going in on the weed?? *sad mom voice* You guys used to love tax revenue off of sinful indulgences!
*puts my hands on my knees and leans in closer* ... is it the racism thing? Do we still really badly wanna arrest Black people and brown people and send them to jail forever for minor possession offenses? Hey. Hey look at me. Don't walk away, we're still talking- hey! Indiana. 🙍🏼♂️ Look at me. Are you shooting yourself in the foot because you're addicted to racist propaganda started by the Nixon administration 50 years ago to let you arrest more people of color? Hmm? Yeah, I thought so.
*points in the direction of Indiana's room and watches with chagrin as it stomps off*

shakes my head
#this post kind of got away from me......#but I'm kind of convinced this is the reason lol#z.chat#Indiana critical#but i guess if there's anyone here like actually defending and *shudders* GLORIFYING this fucking gutter ass state id want you to block me

i love imagining scenarios where morty and summer meet rick and minnie when they were their age, whether through time travel, parallel universe, age regression, or some other sci fi nonsense.
god bless him mortys trying hard to relate to his teenage grandmother from the late 70s
#rick sanchez#morty smith#rick and morty#rick and morty oc#art#my art#rick#morty#minnie#posts that make u look up the wikipedia article for 1977 in video games#i started this one b4 realizing that all the iconic arcade games came out in the 80s#so teen rick and minnie were stuck with pong and blockade instead of frogger and pac man 😔#although space invaders did come out in 78 or 79 i figured they probably wouldn't have it in a small town in indiana so i didnt include it#thats also why they have scattered arcade cabinets around town instead of in a dedicated arcade business#the time period was just a little too early 4 that#some of the old cabinet games seem cool as hell though when u look into them#i mean obviously the graphics were PRIMATIVE#literally just squares and lines#but th actual set ups were cool#like seawolf had u look through a periscope to play it#and indy 4 was a 4 person racing game arcade setup like a table and each side got a wheel a brake and a gas pedal#and u all looked at the large screen at the center of the table to see the racing map#also one more pointless tid bit#but death race was a demolition style game and people criticized it for encouraging vehicular violence#thats why they're not allowed to play it anymore someone probably bitched out the record ship owner for it#I LOVE DOING PERIOD SPECIFIC RESEARCH CAN U TELL

One of the few things I'll give The Nostalgia Critic credit for is he brought to my attention as a kid how racist Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom was. For a white guy comedy critic at the height of 'early Youtube', I'll tip my hat to that.

On the theme of the ‘collapsing dominant’.
The highly disorganized moment we are living in now…owes much of its tinny, squalidly masochistic flavor to the erasure of historical consciousness. We no longer know who we are because we no longer know who we were, which makes it rather easy for other people to sell us an identity. – Gary Indiana, Art Forum 1997

Now that 2024 is circling the drain, I’ll start regaling you with my “Favourites of the Year!” Most noteworthy passing: American author, playwright, actor, essayist, art critic and all-round bête noire Gary Indiana (né Gary Hoisington, 16 July 1950 – 23 October 2024) died of lung cancer aged 74. (As Indiana told an interviewer in 2014 “I’ve been smoking since I was practically two years old.” His brand of choice was Camel Filters. It’s amazing the dissolute Indiana lasted this long, considering his peers were people like David Wojnarowicz and Cookie Mueller). Anyway, words like “lacerating” and “scathing” barely suffice when discussing Indiana’s oeuvre. When I was in my twenties, buying each new work by Indiana and Dennis Cooper was de rigueur. (I probably purchased them at the long-defunct radical Compendium bookstore in Camden Town). I moved around a lot and wound up re-selling them to used bookstores for a pittance. Then Indiana’s books mostly lapsed out of print! (In more recent years, they’re gradually being reissued by Semiotext(e)). It didn’t help that Indiana gleefully burnt bridges throughout his life. As one of his associates noted almost admiringly, “He went through agents the way I go through t-shirts.” Some of his most noteworthy books were speculative fiction inspired by true crime figures like the Menendez brothers (Resentment: A Comedy (1997) and Andrew Cunanan (Three Month Fever (1999). (The viewers who clutched their pearls over Ryan Murphy’s recent Menendez miniseries would REALLY lose their shit over Indiana’s book. Indiana would have swooned over Luigi Mangione). For anyone interested in investigating Indiana, his memoirs I Can Give You Anything But Love is available in paperback. And his interview with Butt in July 2024 is essential. As its intro summarizes: “Gary earned his notorious reputation over the course of his unflinching, decades-long career. He writes about addiction, alienation, corruption, exploitation, obsession, perversion, power and sexuality with unfiltered candour, leaving no room for politeness … His tendency toward destructive obsession was kept in check by his brilliance, cutting humor and heart.” Pic: “Gary Indiana Veiled” by Peter Hujar, 1981.

Whoaaaa Challengers for Score!!! Who are these people and what have they done with the Globes???
#I mean GREAT but I guess I was thinking of the Academy (which I really do not see as hip enough to give it to challengers)#but yeah I guess the Globes are different#(for those unaware -- the Oscars nominations are voted on by specific branches in the industry#the directors' branch votes for the director nominees#the actors' branch votes for the acting nominees#the cinematography branch does the cinematograpy noms and so on and so forth#and everyone can vote on the nominations for Best Picture#but once all the noms are in then everyone can vote in all categories#which is why you get some out there nominations in the tech categories that most people have not seen#but the people who are in the industry in fields like editing or sound design or cinematography have#but the actors' branch is the largest branch in the Academy and they vote differently#The Golden Globes are a critics/journalist awards base not an industry one but apparently they have REALLY shaken it up#also different branches in the Academy have different rules#The director's branch for example only gives voting privileges to people who have had at least one movie in the past decade to keep it more#current. The score branch is EXTREMELY old-fashioned. Which is why I don't think the Oscars are cool enough to recognize Challengers in#score bc they rarely nominate electronic scores#see them nominating Indiana Jones of all things last year#but then again everything is apparently chaos I just don't see the GG as being predictive this year#the way they more or less were last year)#lior liveblogs awards season

My Mean-spirited Anti-parody
Had an idea today that I don't think I'll ever make it might be a fun occasion series. You know that youtube channel 'How it Should of Ended'? Web animated parodies that about exactly what it says on the tin? My idea is sort of the opposite of that. Movie parodies that deliberately respond to often critiqued or parodied movie scenes, plot points, or plot holes, showing how the story would be actually worse if they did exactly what we said they should have done.
For example, Glynda just tells Dorothy that the shoes can take her home the moment she gets them. She never actually learns that "there's no place like home" and then lives the rest of her life regretting coming back, wanting to return this fantastic world she didn't get to see, and ends up in a psychward after attempting to run into the next tornado to hit her farm.
Indiana Jones doesn't actually have to retrieve the Ark of the Covenant because it kills the Nazis after they try to use it? Alright, let's see the movie where he just sits around waiting for that to happen, then it does, and he brings it back to America without any issue. Marion's dead because they killed her for the medallion, but who cares? I got the magic god box. That sounds like a way better movie, right?
The fellowship takes the eagles to mordor. Not even a third of the way there, the ring corrupts the eagles, and they successfully destroy all the kingdoms. Because they're gods that we all mistook for a taxi service.
Give me enough time, I bet I could come up with a reason why fixing the ending of Grease would be actually way worse.

Everytime i see a Trailer for a New Videogame and scroll through the comments i get so disappointed by parts of the community (im also dissapointed by the Industry, but thats not the point).
In the comments for the Trailer for the New Indiana Jones game there are a whole lot of perplex complaining about how Machinegames has gone woke and thats the reason why the "Wolfenstein" series is dead now and why the Indiana Jones game will be shit because the woman in the Trailer looks "woke"

Given there are A LOT of people who are just excited for the game (like me) or have legitimate criticism (like the Trailer looking off, that it looks stiff or that its not Thorsten person)
But that whole "Games gonna be shit because woke" Business just spoils the excitement for a game that Looks at least "alright" but probably good or maybe even great.
Criticize Games, Devs and Publishers for real reasons. You dont have to make them up.

It seems many colonial conclusions rely on an ahistorical analysis or critical lack of historical context. I saw a post today that claimed there are no terms for US colonial expansion and the people who support it. And— like— yes there is? And a problem is that the words for it are still regarded with positive connotation by most of the US public today.
May I introduce you to:
While coined in 1845, the term refers to an ideology of U.S. expansionism that dates back to the first colonial contact between Europeans and First Nations People.
We also have three terms for the people who subscribed to this ideology, two for the earliest settlers: colonist and pilgrim, and one for the later settlers who expanded west: pioneer. The change in terms came with the change in power following the Colonist Revolution against the British, with “pioneer” being used as early as the 1780s.
However, an overarching term commonly used nowadays is just “colonizer,” and if you did not know this, then there are not enough indigenous North Americans in your life.
Now, I don’t expect non-US Americans to have known this. And, I’m also going to be honest, this post isn’t primarily directed at non-US Americans because the people I hear claiming that the US has no terms for its colonial ideology are Americans themselves. So, this is primarily directed at them.
I know you learned this in history class. Stop lying to people in an intellectually dishonest attempt to paint decolonial movements as hypocritical and supporting a double standard that refuses to call out or critique US imperialism. The only reason you aren’t hearing analysis and critique of US imperialism and expansionism is because you’re not seeking it out and surrounding yourself with people who support movements like Land Back.
Contrary to what Elon Musk and white supremacists like him want people to believe, “decolonization” is not a dirty word and it is not a call for genocide (most of them claim it’s a call for white genocide, specifically).
#decolonization#critical btw: I am a settler myself#I live on the ancestral homelands of:#the Bodéwadmi (Mshkodésik band)#the Confederated Peorias#(which today includes the Peoria. the Kaskaskia [formerly of the Ilini]. as well as the Piankashaw and the Wea [Myaamiaki descendants])#and the Indiana Myaamiaki

a failed update from billion-dollar cybersecurity firm crowdstrike has crashed windows machines worldwide today (july 19th 2024), leaving everything from airport terminals to checkout machines to delivery apps to banks stuck with a blue screen of death. here's a screenshot from downdetector (au) to illustrate:
the issue appears to be with crowdstrike falcon, a form of antivirus software widely used in the corporate world -- with emphasis on the world. there have been reports from the us, uk, australia, germany, india, france, japan and more. places affected include (but are not limited to) supermarkets, banks, basically every airline, public transport networks, major broadcasters, emergency services, corporate offices, healthcare providers and stock exchanges.

(woolies pic via archiestaines9 on twitter; s3pirion; akothari. yes that is masahiro sakurai of smash bros fame)
emergency service lines are currently experiencing problems within the american states of alaska, arizona, indiana, minnesota, new hampshire and ohio. similar problems likely plague other areas of the world, they just haven't been reported on yet. australian emergency services are operating, and critical infrastructure remains stable. be sure to check in with the local news stations still online for more updates.
welcome to y2k............................. 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!
