"On this record with a lot of the lyrics, I became really interested in plants and humans’ relationship with them and the earth; gathering & farming, commodifying & exploiting, researching & controlling, using to alter consciousness. A lot of the early musical ideas started sitting outside playing guitar in the garden. I think with these songs we wanted to create a record that sonically speaks to the magic that is constantly unfolding all around in the natural world."

This kind of makes me think of Elephant 6 bands, The Teeth, Starlight Mints, French Cassettes or The Botticellis.

CINEMA REVIEW: REAWAKENING (2024)

A couple whose daughter aged 14 went missing and then reappears after a decade.

More like watching a TV drama than a movie, but absorbing thanks to the intense acting by all three main characters.

REAWAKENING doesn't really spark until the final 30 mins or so, when it starts to get to the point, and powerfully.

Erin Doherty is wonderful as the "missing" Clare, and Jared Harris as John - a methodical electrician quietly going to tears is masterful acting. His wife, Mary, played by Juliet Stevenson is more dramatic back-up to those two, but a strong supporting performance nonetheless.

Thought provoking but took too much time to get up and running, but the shyness and understatements were nice touches mixed in with the fraught chaos of parents living without their child for 10 years.

Rating: 7/10

Dove Cameron and Damiano David's Relationship Timeline

Dove Cameron and Damiano David are putting their love in the spotlight.  The couple first confirmed their relationship in February and have stepped out together a few times since. Most recently, they attended the Met Gala as a duo, posing together on the red carpet. The “Boyfriend” singer wore a floral gown and smiled happily with her Måneskin frontman beau, who wore a sheer suit that showed off his many tattoos.  The duo first sparked dating rumors back in September 2023, a few months after David had announced his split from his long-term girlfriend Giorgia Soleri. Cameron, meanwhile, was previously linked to her Descendants costar Thomas Doherty. After meeting on the set of the Disney Channel film, they dated for almost four years before Cameron confirmed their breakup in December 2020.  Here’s a complete timeline of Dove Cameron and Damiano David’s relationship.

September 2023: Dove Cameron and Damiano David spark dating rumors 

Cameron and David first sparked dating rumors in September 2023, when the “Breakfast” singer was spotted attending one of his concerts at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The outing came a few months after David confirmed he was no longer in a relationship with Giorgia Soleri. He announced their split shortly after he was spotted kissing a mystery woman. "I am very sorry this video came out, it was not how I wanted to handle the situation and it was my mistake," he reportedly wrote on his Instagram Stories. David continued, writing that he and Soleri had broken up several days ago and there had been "no betrayals of any kind." He added, "I hope this doesn't affect Giorgia's image and that you can respect the delicacy of this moment.” 

November 4, 2023: Dove Cameron attends Damiano David’s concert in Brazil

In early November 2023, Cameron and David were seen leaving his concert in Brazil together, according to photos obtained by Just Jared. The two kept things low-key as they made their way out of the venue and slipped into a car. 

November 28, 2024: Dove Cameron and Damiano David share a kiss in Australia 

As dating rumors flew, Cameron and David were spotted showing PDA at Bondi Beach amid his band's Sydney tour. In photos obtained by The Daily Mail, the couple was seen holding hands as they walked along the beach before cuddling up for a kiss. 

January 24, 2024: Dove Cameron and Damiano David grab dinner together 

Cameron and David continued to date back stateside. In photos obtained by Just Jared, Cameron was seen linking arms with the rocker as they had a dinner date with friends in Los Angeles.

Days after attending their first public event together, Cameron discreetly went Instagram official with David. As she posted a number of photos of her at the Grammy gala, she included a sweet snapshot of David carrying her heels. He also commented on the photo with a red heel and kiss emoji.

What irritates me about the response to Charmed (1998) fandom's backlash against the 2018 CW reboot is this:

If it was Buffy the Vampire Slayer getting a reboot without the involvement of Joss Whedon or anybody in the original cast, nobody would think twice about the OG fandom being pissed about it.

Same goes for Supernatural hypothetically getting a reboot 12 years after the show ends, but none of the original cast are involved.

Speaking of Supernatural, I find it highly suspicious that Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, who are in their mid-to-late 40s, immediately got jobs on other CW shows (Walker & The Winchesters) right after Supernatural ended, yet The CW was unwilling to approach Holly Marie Combs, Alyssa Milano, Shannen Doherty, or Rose McGowan about the Charmed reboot, claiming they were "too old" to do a job they'd done then-12 years ago --- despite all of them being basically the same age as Jared and Jensen & stating for years they would be down for a revival.

Charmed (1998) has a cult following, but because non-fandom people primarily remember it for the fanservice / skimpy outfits and behind-the-scenes drama, it's not taken anywhere near as seriously in popular culture as, say, Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Xena: Warrior Princess.

When in fact Charmed was created by a woman who based its main characters on herself and her two sisters, came out two years after The Craft (1996), and specifically based its witchcraft in Wicca because Wicca was the largest of the Neo-Pagan religions at the time specifically serving as a counterculture to the dominant mainstream religion of Christianity (in the USA, at least). Charmed was also the longest female-led drama TV series at 8 seasons (1998 - 2006) until it was beat out by Desperate Housewives in 2012.

(I would also argue that there are things Charmed handles / portrays better than Buffy did, but that's beside the point here.)

It was also infamously screwed around by the network. The WB and Aaron Spelling had no faith in the series' concept of witchcraft until Constance M. Burge made the main characters sisters. Rumors have swirled around for years as to why T.W. King (who played Andy Trudeau) left at the end of season 1. Even now with Shannen and Holly doing a podcast together, I don't think we're ever going to get the full story as to why Shannen left (or was fired) at the end of season 3. (Frankly, I don't really care.) Holly Marie Combs and Alyssa Milano have repeatedly stated they only became producers as of season 5 because it was so chaotic that they couldn't really get a hold of any of the writers or anyone higher-up to discuss script changes, and all the title of "producer" did was give them a larger paycheck: they did not have that much power on-set even after becoming producers on the show. That's not even getting into all the issues with Brad Kern and the sexual harassment/assault charges against him from his time on this show and NCIS: New Orleans.

If Charmed (1998) was treated with more respect that it deserves, yeah, people wouldn't even be questioning the backlash against the reboot from both the fandom and its main cast. But because it's generally seen as a silly witchcraft show with skimpy fanservice and BTS catty drama, people treat the OG fandom as being unreasonable for being upset about the reboot and the OG main cast as jealous, petty bitches.

Which is vastly unfair.
