A Beacon of Hope - Update

Summary:  Newly engaged John Shepard and Kaidan Alenko take the day to celebrate John's birthday. Little do they know it is the beginning of something far more complicated.

Chapter Summary:  John suspects the accident that killed his mother is more than just an accident, but it takes an attempt on Jayme while she's in the hospital to get the cops to believe it. Time to call in reinforcements to help!

Chapter 3: Got Your Six

Excerpt:

John knows it's his own fault he has to spend the rest of the morning cooling his heels and waiting for treatment down in the ER. Usually, he’s levelheaded and slow to anger, two things that made him such a good naval officer during his years of service and carried over to his new career in law enforcement. Turns out, finding out those he cares most about are in harm’s way and he can’t help shortens that fuse.  Who knew? Kaidan helps John through the initial paperwork - John also suspects Bailey might have gotten involved by calling ahead, but he has no proof – and he’s brought to an examination room relatively quickly.  After that, however, it's a waiting game.  Hours pass. A nurse stops by to take his vitals as well as note down the details of his injury, but then leaves John and Kaidan alone again.  Irritated and in pain, sitting still just isn’t in the cards, so John paces around the small room.  Kaidan just sits there, his attention focused on his phone, though John suspects his fiancé is using that as a cover for sneaking peeks at him and making his own evaluation.  Eventually, a doctor arrives.  John makes it through another examination with gritted teeth.  The pain from moving his hand plus the doctor's frown is enough to assure John he really has mucked things up.  The doctor leaves John to pace some more, this time waiting as x-rays are arranged.   By the time he and Kaidan leave the ER, John has both a cast and a sling as well as an official determination that he's broken the carpals - or is it metacarpals?  Anatomy has never been his strong suit - in his right hand and for the next eight weeks or so will be on strictly limited activity.  Great.  John, 0; Stupidity, 1.

Yes. Jayme Lawson barely got to speak about her character. Who knew Jayme/ Pearline could sing and dance like that! I was not that shocked bc she went to Julliard. Miles barely got to go deep enough about his characters. I truly believe they had the worst interviews! HS definitely likes/ loved Wunmi but she definitely put herself first. HS said she wanted to use this film to open doors for her (acting in Sony/ marvel animation is probably not her dream even though the pay is probably good). RC called Delroy a legend on Sherri Shepards show, not sure if I’ve seen those interviews that he called HS a legend.

Side eye is probably too strong of a phrase but the interviews where mj mentions that wm told him about her dreams or their private convos hs would look lost or do a nervous laugh.

I am also upset that we barely got to see Omar Miller with the cast. His thoughts and interviews on sinners were great. Omar said his favorite parts were smoke /annie first scene in the shop and Remmick’s dancing scene. Omar said RC apologized to him bc WB made him audition for the role too 🧐. I believe RC hand picked everyone he wanted but the studio made them all audition esp since he hired wunmi after she read with MJ in person.

I hate when I hyperfixate on something and then get in too deep and hurt my own feelings. Sinners rant. Wunmi and Michael rant.

I was scrolling and saw that video of the cast standing outside for pictures. It's actually two videos like that. When Wunmi is wearing a blue dress and one where she's wearing a floral dress I think. Mind you in both videos she's standing next to Michael. Why is it that they ALWAYS split them up? Why is it a problem to have this full figured dark skin woman standing next to MBJ the star of the movie?

Ryan Coogler literally looks like he goes in for a hug, but tells her something. Her smile drops and he stands between them. Why? She and Hailee were literally laughing together and he comes over to stop her with a "hug."

Why?

The other time she and Michael had a moment where they both looked at each other and smiled then held hands. He lets her hand go and shoved Miles in between them and once again her smile drops. Why? Even during interviews they sat him away from her or had someone sit between them as if it's forbidden.

I understand I'm taking it personal because I always care about what's going on with black women and how they're being treated. So I'm not going to ignore that, however this is being done on purpose. Videos of Michael and Wunmi usually involve such admiration and or laughs so why would you not want to push that? Black women are usually always the biggest supporters so why not cater to us as well when it comes to interviews, seating arrangements, and pairings?

Why do we have to watch one of ours get pushed aside? We'd like to see one of us get some love too. Was Annie not as important to the movie as Mary? Like what's happening? Why?
