"We fall because someone pushes us. We get up to push back," but Dick also sometimes simply refuses to fall. That's the will that has made him a canonical Green Lantern candidate since the 80s.

Whereas Tim, Helena and Cassandra are vulnerable to the nerve gas, Dick keeps standing. Not only due to an assumed resistance to toxins after being a superhero for so long but also because, as Lex recognizes, he simply refuses to fall.

Dick needs to be beaten down in order to stay put. Very violently, which we see often in his stories. For example, there are rarely any New 52 covers on which Dick does not get hurt. In his own stories, Dick is at least the protagonist of these thrillers, but in stories in which he is the supporting cast, he is often made the victim without the narrative offering a resolved aftermath (see Superman/Batman (2003) #55-56).

I think one reason why looking at Dick through a form of social critic - like guys need feminisms too, his inherent queerness as a male character shaping another male emotionally, or classism - is so vital to his character, despite him sometimes being written in direct contradiction to those themes, is the way characters and people hate his resistance. Especially his nonviolent resistance. It's not the fact that Dick throws a punch after Lex attacks him that causes Luthor to brutalize him; it's Dick's refusal to stay down and shut up.
