“The year was 1988, a time when it was chilly, but our hearts were fiery, a time when we didn’t have much but people’s hearts were warm.”

"To love someone means you can't hate them"

-Reply 1988
genre: slice of life, drama, romance, nostalgic
my rating: I will forever repeat that this is one of the best kdramas made: good story, realistic, and everyone can relate to this in one way or another
I have a hard time putting how good this show is in words but I will have to try for tumblr. Its amazing... No but fr. This show encapsulates youth so well. The awkwardness. The friendship. The romance. The embarrassment. The family relationships. The missed timings. The undervaluing of all these things. This is what this show is about. It's not some glorified version of being teenagers. Not everyone will have the best haircut, the best grades or the best personality, but everyone still lives with their achievements and their short comings while loving and being loved. (once again will the director and the writers please teach me their ways ily)
and to finish this post off
similar shows and why:
Racket boys: same sort of friend group and relationships between the people, despite it not being the main focus of the show and it's not as nostalgic

Lovely us: follows a friend group from different sorts of backgrounds

the movie Twenty (2015): The characters are flawed and we see them through multiple stages of their life.

D.P. (Season 2)

TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2023
D.P. (Season 2, 2023, South Korea)
Director: Han Jun Hee
Writers: Kim Bo Tong & Han Jun Hee
Mini-review:
The moment has finally come: Netflix's best Korean Original has made its return with a second season. And these two years of waiting have been more than worth it. It seemed impossible but, somehow, this new season is even better than the first one. It preserves all of its many strengths, and then it takes them to the next level. Both the directing and the writing are amazingly intense. I spent six whole hours on the edge of my seat, biting my nails to the quick, and the last two episodes left me breathless. I also loved the show's attempts at experimenting, like the musicality in episode 3 or the horror undertones in episode 4. As for the acting, is there anything left to say? This is a cast full of incredible actors, and all of them give career-best performances. This time round, Jung Hae In and Son Suk Ku are probably the MVPs, but everyone does a flawless job. To sum up, this second season blew away my sky-high expectations, and I really hope we get a third one, cause TV shows don't get better than this.
P.S. There's a lot of triggering content here, so please be careful with that. Those of you who watched the first season already know this, but I'm saying it just in case.

Y'all I just finished Maxton hall and damn. I need more. I mean 6 episodes were fine and enough for 1 season but I need season 2 asap. And I know this is gonna be the typical be with each other but something comes up so we break up then we can't be without each other so love prevails and evil parent realizes that too trope. But like it's been so long since I watched something typical be so good, do you understand how many rewatch and different adaptation of the og Hana yori dango manga I've watched? All five of them all from different countries and it's entertaining as always. But Maxton hall gave me a female lead that isn't actually clueless of what the rich famous hot boy feels for her?? And she isn't in denial of her feelings for him either?? And he's not an excessive bully like Doa Ming Si/Goo Jun-Pyo/Domyoji/Thyme?? And he's also upfront about what he feels for her rather than just bullying her over and over again?? And there's no love triangle that doesn't go anywhere??? YES. I AM SO SOLD. You know how long I've been waiting for this (insert Gambit meme)?? This is my new love and I'm gonna be gulping and snorting any fanfiction of this from now on.

DRAMA REVIEW | Dreaming of a Freaking Fairy Tale (2024)

You might think this is your typical Cinderella love story but you would be wrong. As a matter of fact, nothing about this fairy tale turns out to be like our heroine (and us) expect it.
I freaking loved this drama and I really enjoyed spending time with these characters, which I find to be some of the most likable this year with their camp attitude and sizzling chemistry that puts other romances to shame. It was also refreshing to see a drama couple that truly felt like equals. They actually talk to each other and at the same level all the time, but they also know how to have fun with each other, openly flirting in a way that that feels candid and sexy.
Pyo Yejin and Lee Jun Young are going to be tough act to follow.
Most of it is thanks to the writing, which is solid, coherent, smart and fun. The writer, Yoo Ja, knew exactly what they were doing. BRAVO!
Dreaming of a Freaking Fairy Tale is more than a drama about a Candy heroine meeting a Chaebol. This story is a love letter to self-love. In a very simple and fresh way, we are thrown into the world of these characters and see them grow into becoming even more amazing people.
Our heroine, insecurities are really well rooted and subsequently developed. We see how growing up in poverty has affected her self-worth but also how her mother's abandonment affected her dynamics with the new family his father formed. This is another point that I loved about this show: Step-mom and the two step-sisters are actually kind and cool people and the entire problem the family faces is a lack of proper communication. There's plenty of love between them.
Our hero's personal story is also rooted on a family conflict but in many ways it hasn't cripple him emotionally. Sure, he has his ups and downs but most of the time I personally believe he is thriving because he's open to new people and experiences. This is a man that it's not afraid to "follow his joy". He is a really good listener, doesn't talk down to people as someone with more money than them, and he’s also not patronizing as a man. Prince Charming? I THINK SO!!
So far, I am yet to see better than this drama when it comes to the romance/comedy genre and it's definitely one of favourites I have seen this year. Likely to make it to my TOP 10 list.
Rating: 8/10

Boys Over Flowers fic recs
Here is my fic rec list for 2024! Not all fanfics are from this year, these are just the ones I caught myself reading and enjoying.
Bearing Weight by Kalira
Woo Bin would do anything for his friends - for any of them. If all he can do is be there, and try to pry Ji Hoo out of his own head . . . well, that's what he's there for. Whether Ji Hoo really wants to allow support or not.
This one was a nice gem to find this year. I love fics focused on the F4 friendship and the Woobin and Jihoo one has been on my mind lately (mostly because I keep writing them interacting in my own fic), so I was very happy when I saw someone post a fic focused on them. It's great and a nice character exploration of them (and even Jihoo's grandfather)!
A Chance Encounter by GrannyWeatherwax
Alternate Universe Five years after Gu Jun Pyo goes ahead with his marriage to Ha Jae Kyung, Gu Jun Pyo and Geum Jan Di find themselves snowed-in at a familiar ski resort on Christmas Eve.
I've recommended this one before and I'll recommend it again because I can. I don't know why I keep reading AUs where things start out wrong for this ship, I think I just like suffering 😂. My favorite thing in this fic is how the writer got in Jandi's head and her job.
Daomings Play for Keeps by Anna_Dromeda
Set during episode eight, Shancai never goes down to the beach and kisses Lei, but instead wakes up Ah Si in her usual violent manner and tells him to get his lazy butt down to the beach to comfort his friend during his time of crisis. This goes about as well as you would expect. Shancai, realizing she has feelings for both boys, gets it into her head that she is just a game to Daoming Si, and vows to play to win. Her proposal? A one-month trial period of no fighting or possessive idiocy. His solution? A relationship agreement. What could possibly go wrong here?
This fic is so funny i can't even begin to describe it. Love the interactions between the F4 and how over the top everything is (very in character). Seriously recommend.
Even If I Can’t Remember You by Toffeemond
Tsukasa didn’t remember Tsukushi and that was the end to their love story. Or it should have been. But eight years later, two grown people get a second chance to pick up the pieces and try again.
Again, I'm torturing myself with a fic where this ship start out suffering. It's really good and the side ships caught me by surprise. Waiting for the updates.
The Imperial House by HelenRourke
Tsukushi Makino wanted nothing more than to live an ordinary life. Enrolled as a scholarship student at the elite Eitoku Academy, she was counting down the days until she graduated. Then she could reach her goal of going to a University in America. However, she didn’t know her future had been decided for her, by her grandfather, before she had ever been born. What fate, you may ask? It seems that Tsukushi has been destined to marry the Prince of Japan.
This one started recently, so it only has two chapters yet but I'm keeping an eye on it because it looks promising. I've always wanted to read a royalty au about them!

Hello~ anything more that you'd like to share about the midnight romance in hagwon? Its audience on Tumblr (for now) is not big now. The lack of comments is killing me because I think we had various topics to discuss on in 2 episodes.
i used to like, really analyze and get really obsessed with shows but it wasn't really healthy for me tbh and that habit kinda stopped when i got deeper into my faith.
i still notice stuff tho so:
midnight romance in hagwon is not a show for people who are not into character-driven pieces. every character in this show has a story and, even if they are not as central to the story as the main characters, every one has a history and everyone gets their due. all the characters matter in this show and there is no such thing as a filler scene because every scene is meant for the viewer to understand the world that is currently being built. as someone who can only really write character-driven stories, this is my jam and butter. also, people who like shows that tell you to your face what's going on will not like this show. these people are ACTORS. every micro-expression matters. every glance of the eye is meant to signal a change in thought. people are obsessed with wi ha joon (as they should be tbh), but jung ryeo won EATS as the female lead and alot of people are kinda hating on her after the second episode. if you don't know media literacy, please do not watch this show. actually scratch that. this is a great show to learn about media literacy. if you dont CARE about media literacy, pls do not touch this show. this is not a show for foreigners - this is clearly a korean drama and everything is interconnected. the romance is in the background for now and we are smack-dab in education system jargon. as someone who knows nothing about the education system in korea, i still can pick up context clues and i am willing to listen to viewers who either experienced the education system or j know their research for things that don't make sense to me. if you are not willing to be patient, don't want a background romance (at this point), idk don't want the plot to be about the actual setting (which is so weird ngl yall), then this might not be the show for you.
okay enough with the rant.
the visuals of this show are absolutely beautiful. people, places, the way things are shot - everything is meant to feel real and like slice of life because we are literally watching someone's life!!! there's not much of a focus on the past rn, which i LOVE, because the viewer is forced to be present with the characters!!! CAN YOU HEAR ME SCREAAAAMING RN??
as for actual topics in the show like my thoughts on pyo sang sub, the incident that seo hye jin clearly went through and talked around in episode 2, lee jun ho's motivations to wanting to become an instructor, the lowkey beef between lee jun ho and choi sung gyu (?), then like. i need more time. but i would love to talk about those topics because they interest me so much! are there any topics you wanted to talk about in particular? i would love to dive into them with you :)
thanks for asking me about midnight romance in hagwon btw!! its lowkey underrated rn and i think the show itself is going against the grain (or trend) for what people are looking for (lovely runner, queen of tears, more shows that i simply can't think of rn....). i think this show is brave, is the complete opposite of dare to love me despite the same premise of noona romance, and i am extremely excited to see where this show goes

Lee Je Hoon's Chief Detective 1958 starts today. Can't wait to watch! I enjoyed him in Taxi Driver and really want to watch through his filmography eventually.
Lovely Runner is knocking my socks off! Byeon Wook Seok and Kim Hye Yoon are killing both the comedy and the drama. Wook Seok is the cutest loser in love! The mystery and unexpected twists are fun and interesting. I hope this quality storytelling continues. I'm on the edge of my seat.
I only have 3 episodes left of Love Me Love My Voice which has been wonderful and heartwarming. I love the main romance but the friendships and secondary romances have been given ample time to shine as well. I'm always here a good found family. I really like how the dramatic readings and song perfomances have been carefully woven into the story to further the character development. Definitely recommend.
Now we come to our debrief on The Smile Has Left Your Eyes. Whoa, what a rollercoaster. The first half was interesting with many characters' selfish and dark intentions mixed with a little mystery were set up in contrast to our optimistic, self-sacrificing female lead. However, the second half drowned in major events happening and then being dismissed as if they never happened, multiple secret keepers refusing to tell the secret multiple times an episodes even when asked point blank when the answers could stop so many bad things from happening, and the existential dread I felt about what the big reveal was going to be only for it to completely dismissed. (FYI I found out what I thought was going to be the big reveal IS the actual reveal in the darker Japanese version it's based on.) After episode 14, I wasn't sure I could continue watching the show. But after a night of uneasy sleep, I decided to finish it the next morning on double speed to get through it. I did watch the last 10 minutes at regular speed. While there were some well done things about their relationship in the second half, it couldn't save the show for me even though I went in knowing this was not an HEA. Overall, I was just left feeling angry and exhausted. As a Seo In Guk fan, this was a show I had long wanted to see, just to find out what my opinion on it would be. I'm sad that the SIG fanmeet has been post-poned, hopefully I will be able to make the next date. But this means I feel okay to stop my SIG show binging so I will not be watching Hello Monster anytime soon. I'm actually impressed with how much of SIG's filmography I've already seen (7 shows as a ML, 4 shows as a cameo, and 1 movie). I'm pretty sure it's more than I've seen any other kdrama actor or actress.
After a bad experience at the new dentist yesterday, where the hygienist manhandled my teeth and they tried to upsell me on services, I was in need of a comfort rewatch. I've been thinking alot about Lee Jun Young lately and decided to break out the first thing I ever saw him in, Imitation. I was only going to watch a few favorite parts from an episode or two and ended up binging my favorite parts of most of the series. lol I really hope his upcoming Cinderella romcom with Pyo Ye Jin is going to be good.
I slowly picked Vigilante back up again this week and was excited to see Lee Joon Hyuk's character finally emerge to add a boost of energy and chaos to the story.
Now that I've got some time and the second half of the series has finally dropped, I will continue watching Chae Jong Hyeop's Eye Love You.

JEALOUSY INCARNATE: IS THIS GOING TO BE MY FAVORITE ROMANCE KDRAMA?
Look, guys, you don’t understand - extreme jealousy is my absolute FAVOURITE trope of all time. I swoon. I squeal. I make heart eyes when the ML gets so jealous he doesn’t know what to do with himself. Call me toxic - I don’t care. Just give me that possessive, obsessive, simmering green monster energy and I will eat it up.
And honestly? In my endless search for the right flavor of love triangle chaos, it’s shockingly rare to find something that actually hits the mark. Like, what if the entire plot is dedicated to the love triangle? What if the ML and SML actually fight for the FL’s affection across multiple episodes - not just for a filler arc? What if the FL genuinely can’t decide, and it’s not because she’s indecisive, but because it’s genuinely hard to choose? What if - plot twist - the SML actually has a chance to win? Is that too much to ask? Apparently yes.
BUT THEN I FOUND Jealousy Incarnate.
This is LITERALLY what I’ve been looking for. It’s giving obsession. It’s giving emotional chaos. It’s giving enemies-to-lovers but also friends-to-rivals. It’s the best execution of the love triangle trope I’ve ever seen - genuinely.
I’ve always had a soft spot for Jo Jung Suk (thanks, Ik-jun and Hospital Playlist) - which is perfectly normal, and if you’re not a fan, what are you even doing with your life? And now he’s playing Hwa Shin, a rude, emotionally stunted, slightly unhinged anchor who’s really good at his job, which hits my competency kink like a freight train. The scene where he gives Na Ri tips before her exam?? I was looking at him the exact same way she was - with a bit of awe, a bit of desire, and a whole lot of “please ruin my life.”
And don’t even get me started on the hospital changing room kiss.
UGHHHH.
That one-minute kiss had more tension and heat than most full-blown 18+ scenes. The way he was looking at her lips? The breathlessness? The longing? My knees ceased to function.
Jo Jung Suk is perfect in this. One moment he’s a smug asshole, the next he’s so emotionally vulnerable you just want to swaddle him in a blanket and protect him from the world. He acts with his eyes - and I mean acts. I believe him. I feel him. Also, he’s extremely attractive, which never hurts.
And yes, the second lead, Jeong Won, almost gave me the Second Lead Syndrome - played (a bit one dimensionally) by Go Kyung Pyo. He’s the opposite of chaotic - calm, emotionally mature, well-dressed, rich, and genuinely caring. He’s one of those “perfect on paper” types who’d never yell at you, never make things messy, and probably always remembers your birthday. He’s also a little insecure - and rightfully so - especially when he finds out Na Ri had a long-standing crush on Hwa Shin. He’s not a jerk. He’s just normal in a show full of emotional drama. He fades out around Ep 15–16, but in the first half? Whew. Any girl would be lucky. Even if he was giving “vanilla with money,” he still had that “I’ll take care of everything” vibe. Strong contender, weak finish.
And THEN - plot twist of the century - they all move in together for a month so Na Ri can date both men at the same time and decide who she wants to be with. I mean. The dream. The setup. THE POTENTIAL.
And let me be honest: I wish it had gone full poly. They were already halfway there. The boys love each other. They never gave up on their friendship. They both adore Na Ri. All three of them living together? That was a throuple waiting to happen. Instead of picking one man, why not pick both? Share a bed. Rotate pillow privileges. WE WERE SO CLOSE TO PERFECTION.
Anyway. That’s the show. Yes, the side characters are great (the moms?? ICONIC. The mom-off gave me life), but this is, at its heart, a love triangle - and it stays that way until about Episode 19. That’s a level of narrative commitment I respect. I salute it.
If you have anything similar - intense triangle, high jealousy, steamy rivalries, a little emotional instability - please let me know. I’m always open to toxicity. And poly options.

monthly dramas, I'm not really feeling it lately :\
Crazy Love, 2022 (kdrama) 8/8.5
FL works as a secretary for the biggest asshole in the instructor/tutor industry. She decides to endure it in favor of her future until she discovers she's dying. Revenge for all the mistreatment ensues.
Crazy love indeed. This is how you do enemies to lovers, though. The drama itself is a bit shabby, and the story is a bit predictable, but Krystal and Kim Jae Wook are absolutely amazing in it. They really are a 10/10 comedic duo, and their chemistry is amazing. I didn't like that in the second half the FL sort of takes a step back from the spotlight of the drama. All-around, it was really cute, and I’d recommend it.
Kiss Sixth Sense, 2022 (kdrama) 8
FL sees the future whenever she kisses someone. She accidentally ends up kissing her boss and seeing them entangled… in something deeper lol.
This drama is weird, but not because of the premise. FL seeing the future when her lips come in contact with someone is intriguing enough. ML having acute senses like some sort of daredevil is a bit complicated but I’m into it. I think it was the way they went on about it that just seemed strange to me. Overall, It was a nice watch, nothing out of the ordinary. I’m all in for more adultish romances, and if they have fantasy, that’s a plus. So that’s an aspect I liked a lot from this. The ending… it’s a happy ending, but it could have been better :\
My Sassy Girl, 2017 (kdrama) 7.5
A reckless princess meets a renowned scholar and a series of comedic misunderstandings and dramatic encounters ensue.
This reimagining of My Sassy Girl (2001) starts very cute. I wasn’t sure about watching it at first, but I'd been looking for something historical and romantic comedy-centered without it being too heavy, as historicals tend to be.
The beginning doesn’t feel like a 2017 drama at all. It feels like a drama made between 2004-09. I think it’s the comedy that gives out very 00s vibes. Some might think it’s too much but I was into it. The problem with this drama, for me at least, is that, in the end, it does get heavy, just like all historicals. They hooked me with the light-hearted, over-the-top comedy in the first few episodes and then did a complete 180, and everything became dramatic in a way that feels like you’re watching a different drama. The leads have great chemistry, but the story ends up becoming generic and boring.
Dreaming of a Freaking Fairytale, 2024 (kdrama) 8
A girl who has been poor her whole life wants to change her luck by marrying rich. She ends up working at a social club where the peculiar CEO takes an interest in her.
Because I have been low key following what Pyo Ye Jin and Lee Jun Young have been doing I was really excited to finally watch this. The only disappointment was the fact that it’s a brutally short drama with only 10 episodes, 40mins each. At the same time it’s the type of drama that can only do well by being short. Everything about it, from the duration, to the narrator, the plot, the animation and comedy screams at you not to take this seriously and just enjoy the ridiculous cute ride. Which I did. It made me laugh out loud and most important both leads were really cute. It was just what I needed. 100% rewatchable as well.
Frankly Speaking, 2024 (kdrama) 7.5
A news anchor and a variety show writer get attached thanks to an accident where he can't help but be completely honest (Jim Carrey Liar Liar vibes), and she is the only one who can turn that off.
This started off as a surprise. First episodes are completely refreshing and feel like a break from all the kdramas I've been watching lately. It's not really different from the usual formula we know so well, still, I dug the vibes big time. However, there's sort of a big con here. I divided this drama in three parts. First part: Liar Liar plus a heartfelt commentary about how we go about life. Second part: Dating show romance dramatics with barely any attention to the supposed main plot (the fact that ML has a condition that doesn’t allow him to lie). Third part: Something else entirely. The main theme of the drama is completely lost by episode 8, and so you wonder, what am I really watching? Overall, it's good enough. I absolutely loved Kang Han Na as the FL, and Go Kyung Pyo has become a favorite lead.
Dropped :\ ⬇️
Doctor Slump, 2024 (kdrama) 8
An anethesiologist hits rock bottom when depression starts manifesting in her life. A plastic surgeon loses everything when he's falsely accused of malpractice. These two brains, once school nemesis, meet again and strike up a friendship.
Some dramas do need to be 10-12 episodes long. I started this because of Park Hyung Sik and because I was low-key excited and curious to see him work with Park Shin Hye again. I’m still not sure about them together romantically, but the friendly chemistry was there. I feel like both of them did amazing, but the drama itself felt a bit flat. As if something was missing. I stopped watching for a while after episode 7 because I got a bit tired of it, and honestly, I didn't miss it or was excited to know how it went on. I tried to get back to it but only made it till episode 12. I'll probably finish as background while doing something else, but yeah-- I just got extremely bored.
Birth of a Beauty, 2014 (kdrama) 7
FL is a plus size woman who is constantly ridiculed by her in-laws. She finds out her husband has been cheating on her, and after an accident where they all believe her to be dead, she's "reborn" (plastic surgery) as a beauty, thanks to a man who, to be honest, I don't even know how to describe lol. They both start plotting how to take revenge on her husband.
This dramas was a crack show. And fatphobic, but I feel like I can't complain about that cause the premise was already giving me those vibes.
Those matters aside, it's also a drama I could not take seriously. They wanted to mix comedy with a dark plot such as revenge, but the characters were so silly it didn't make sense. I stuck with most of it because the leads had great chemistry and made me laugh. The dramas with the most bizarre, almost terrible storylines are, in fact, the ones with the most fire chemistry. I stopped watching because I found my other dramas more entertaining, and, honestly, after they got together, I felt like this didn't deserve my time, lol.

Dreaming of a Freaking Fairytale - A Fan's Journey (with spoilers!)
Ep 1-2
OH MY GOD THIS IS HILARIOUS. It's givinggg 2011-2013 Kdramas in the best way possible. Very well casted I might say, I've watched Pyo Yejin before and I've always loved her in every role I've watched her in so I already expected she was gonna nail this one too but it's my first time watching Lee Jun-young and omggg I LOVE him hahahahaha. He's so gorgeous, and the role fits him so well. Their chemistry is off the charts and it was going so well for the past 2 episodes that I was actually wondering, 'Wait, if they both like each other now, what about the rest of the episodes?' then BAM insert obligatory Kdrama fiancé. Which is hella cliché but the drama IS all about clichés so really it's just living up to it's expectations.
There's a thin line between cringe in a good way and cringe in a bad way and so far, this drama is in the good-o-meter lololol. We'll see tho in the next few episodes and dammit I'm excited. I do love my melo dramas and action packed thriller dramas but really I'm just a girl, I also crave cute, hilarious, weird sht every so often.
Ep 3-4
Can I address their names?? Hahahahaha. Cos Prince Cha min is hilarious and you kinda get it from the get go (Prince Charming = Prince Cha min) but Cinderella is a bit too Korean-ized that you don't get it until you've watched 3 episodes lololol (Just a theory this might be a stretch but Koreans put -nim as a suffix for jobs, titles, or relationship to show respect, ex. harabeonim (grandpa but probably not your own grandpa because adding -nim means that you're not that close), gisanim ("gisa"/driver is the root word, adding -nim is a polite way of saying it and mostly used when you speak directly to the person). So my theory is Cinderella 》 Cinder-nim 》 Cinder-im 》 Shin Jae rim.
Anyway back to the episodes, I looove that line about the reason why Jae rim wanted to marry rich because giiiirl I probably won't do it but I totally get it lolololol. Her ambition was revealed tho and it does not look good esp among the rich. It must've felt soo humiliating, and I can feel her pride slowly ebbing away. The ending WAS a total cliché but I loooove it, can't wait for more lol.
Also, can I just say Cha min's business is sooooo fun. It's exactly the type of business that we think about in our daydreams and when asked the question, "What would you do if you have a lot of money". Cos I'm totally going to build myself a playground for adults to have fun in, adults need it more than kids anyway.
Really happy for Jae rim and her painting, she's sooo good, I also wished she continued her passion, but I have high hopes for the next few episodes.
Ep 5-6
OH MY GOD THEY KISSED AAAAAAAAA. And I gotta say it was marvelous hahahhahaha—not the regular cutesy cutesy kissing scenes we normally see in cutesy cutesy Kdramas. Really just from the kissing scene alone I gotta give ep 5 a standing ovation lololol.
I totally expected Jae rim's visit in Do hong's studio to go horribly wrong but it's nice to be wrong for once hahahaha. We got to see his "weakness" and don't we just love to discover those? Makes the characters more human. Dan-a and Jae rim's face off tho 👀 Our girl totally held her ground with the line, "I had fun too. He's a very good kisser" YOOOOOOOOOO Imma tell you the way I gasped?? I was so gagged???
And the scene AFTER that, the way she bursted out her frustrations on Cha min and him not knowing what to do or what to say or how to make things right because in his point of view, he never meant to be cruel, everything he did was just self-preservation.
Ep 7-8
Hello??? I was so invested on that kiss and you're telling me it was a dreamscape?? Call the authorities, straight to JAIL. But on a more serious note, I love how her doubts and her fears of not being enough was easily eliminated by Cha min, and her voice over about being comforted by this was sooo heartwarming, the butterflies in my stomach won't stop churning!!
The ending was emotional but I gotta say, probably bcs we didn't get to have that many teary eye scenes so far, the scene with Cha min's mom just felt a bit I dunno, I didn't cry that's for sure. But I guess we weren't meant to cry, we were meant to feel for him and comfort him.
Ep 9-10
/sigh/ I think I just got diabetes. It was so sweeeet. Have I said Jun young is so gorgeous? Cos he's so gorgeous. I gotta tell you about 90% of the reason why I'm watching it is bcs I just gotta see him smile hahahahahahha. Happy ending all around, really cliché so I can see why some people might not like it. But I loooovee clichés, it calms my anxiety and it's sure to be a happy ending, what's not to love?
The thing about this drama tho, is it's very self-aware and doesn't take itself too seriously and I think that's part of the reason why it's so charming (pun intended). 10/10 cutesy ending I got what I came in for and I'm happy about that, satisfied customer here! Hahahahahaha

No wait I want all the backstories in every AU pls
Well if you INSIST
School AU:
This is basically a kdrama
Misty's parents die in an accident caused by the Sage corporation, she gets a full ride scholarship to the country's best high school so she doesn't go to the media (so she's orphaned at 16 instead of as a child)
Ends up in a love triangle between the heir of the Sage group and "King" of the school, Nadir, and the son of the Sage group's biggest rival, Atlas, who has just returned from ✨abroad✨ after some scandal no one will talk about
Selene is initially a bystander when her classmates bully Misty but eventually she stands up for her and uses her own reputation to protect her new friend
The only kdrama in history where she ends up with the second lead
Was nadir inspired by Gu Jun Pyo? We may never know
Historical AU:
Setting: a nation on the verge of a revolution
Misty goes to the castle to become a maid in hopes of making a better life for herself, ends up befriending the sheltered princess and helping her understand how bad things are for the kingdom
Things get complication when the revolution infiltrates the palace in the form of the formerly exiled (Im gonna say Duke? Hell if I know how royalty works) Atlas
Nadir probably gets guillotined, sorry kit
Idol AU:
This was the song stuck in my head when I was doing their outfits
Misty and Selene debut together in a group that's named after butterflies somehow because I have a brand™
Atlas and Nadir were in the same group but Atlas got kicked out (probably because of Nadir)
Misty eventually steps away from the spotlight and produces for Selene
Selene just. Becomes berry IU because that's what she deserves.
Vanilla AU:
It's just the same. Genuinely it's just the same. They might have different names?
You can take the girl out of the pink but you can't take the pink out of the girl
Cyberpunk AU:
This one would need the most worldbuilding but I imagine it's the same berry world just a few hundred years in the future
Selene's family is extremely rich and influential, so she lives completely sheltered and ignorant of what the world is really like- until one day she accidentally sees her brother's files and realizes she isn't really Selene Elysian
The real girl died young because of a genetic disease, and she's a highly advanced robot created to replace the real daughter so no one ever knows.
She has an identity crisis, runs away, and is taken in by Misty who at this point is making a living off salvaging valuable materials from discarded tech
Misty teaches Selene about the outside world, and together they realize that Selene can do a lot more than any other robot on the market, meaning her family is hiding some kind of dangerous and advanced technology
I'm not good at making pets in the sims but you get the Vibes
Selene is the fluffiest possible cat
Misty is a King Charles Cavalier because my friends have a cute KCC named Nell and she's one of my favourite creatures
I genuinely had more ideas for this edit but I had to stop myself lmao, I could spend forever dressing up my girls and giving them happy endings
#asks#laby extra#technically#thank u for taking the very obvious bait sam ily#if i ever say oh but ill spare you the essay in the tags it means i have the essay ready and i want someone to ask lmfaoooo#when i have more time ill probably make more edits for these aus bc why not#both want to finish this legacy and want to just pull a lacelot and make a million aus of just these two#yeah altas and misty are cute but we all know who i really cared about

BOYS OVER FLOWERS (2009 SOUTH KOREAN ADAPTATION)
In every adaptation there is the cruel calculating mother who wants nothing but wealth, power and to control her son. She is seen as a selfish person for this reason.
Although I don't like her, I understand her. She's a woman trying to keep the legacy of her late husband going in a male dominant business culture so she has shut down her emotions to seem invincible.
Here Gu Jun Pyo (played by LEE MIN-HO) just after convincingly and cruelly hurting Jan Di (South Korea's version of Makino/Shancai) after she travels from Korea to Macau to see him warns his mother (LEE HYE YOUNG) to keep her promise to leave Jan Di alone or he'll destroy everything.
Side Note: If memory serves this version is the only one in which the main male leads father wasn't actually dead but rather in a coma hidden from his children by their mother.
