yesterday I went to a little meeting at my local queer community center and I was admiring their bookshelves and mentioned that I work at the public library and someone said "well I bet they don't have any [LGBTQ+ books] at our library" and I was like um. yes we do. we have tons of them. half of our employees are queer leftists so they said "oh well I bet they don't in [nearby rural county]" and I was like uh once again yes they absolutely do. gay people live and work there as well

so here's a quick reminder that if you don't think your local library has enough queer centered materials you should actually check before assuming, and if you're not satisfied with their collection you should submit a request for more such books. I don't know what the political landscape of libraries looks like outside the us rn, but within the us no matter where you are, I promise you there are employees at your library fighting for inclusion and intellectual freedom and they can't win without vocal public support

All I'm saying is, if it turns out that the people of Amphoreus are already dead/just simulations/cannot leave the memoria (so on so forth), I know a lot of people would be hoping for a next-life Mydei and Phainon reunion in the library, but, you know, I could also be perfectly happy if it turns out Mydei's alternate timeline is just his future?

Like, Amphoreus restarts. We get to follow Mydei along the bridge again... His friends are alive...

Kremnos is flourishing, with its happy children and rejoicing people, far from the madness and misery of Eurypon's timeline...

Mydei climbs the stairs, meets back up with his mother (who is ruling Kremnos after guiding them down the better path, as she rightfully deserves!)...

And then, then there's just a shout--the camera pans to the bottom of the stairs and there's Phainon, sword drawn, grinning like an absolute fool, declaring at the top of his lungs:

"Mydeimos! I followed you all the way from Okhema to challenge you! The Kremnos Festival--just you and me! That festival crown will be mine without a doubt!"

Cutttt to Gorgo giving Mydei the world's most knowing side-eye that it is humanly possible to give, and that's when she hits him with the line:

Despite dying of cringe in front of his mother, Mydei is still powerless to resist a single taunt from Phainon and shouts back something roughly equivalent to: "Keep dreaming, HKS! A dromas would have better odds of winning the festival than you ever will," while the scene fades to black, with Gorgo's joyous cackling and Mydei's embarrassed groan being the last thing to disappear.

HEAR ME OUT! I could be happy with this! It's a viable alternative! We can skip the death and despair, Hoyo, I promise!! I would accept this consolation prize; I could be content-- Hoyo w-where are you going, come back--

he’s a peculiar one.

he always sits in the front rows in the university lecture hall, and often raises a hand to ask or answer questions. sometimes he makes additions to what the lecturer said, other times — he makes corrections. he’s a blessing for some educators and a nightmare for others.

very smart. almost concerningly so. there are times when you think he should be the one leading the lectures instead of the professors. most of them seem uncomfortable in his presence, often glancing his way for a nod of approval during class, clearly distressed and wary of yet another academic confrontation, because gojo satoru — as much of a nerd he is — is not the quiet and easy type. he’s considered arrogant and hard to manage. perhaps, courtesy of having a threateningly vast knowledge and a unique way of justifying his point, which he seems to be very proud of. he’s almost cheeky when he speaks, using a respectful form of speech but with an undeniable and evident (very much on purpose) undertone of arrogance in the way those very respectful words come out of his mouth. it can drive a person crazy.

but every time he’s done speaking, he turns back to look at you. as if to check, if you are listening to him. to see if you notice him. as much as he tries to be subtle about it, you see it. maybe he thinks the strands of his fluffy hair that fall on his face and the glasses he wears help hide the direction in which he is glancing at.

but you see it, and soon enough you figure it out — that the nerdy boy in your class has a crush on you, that even a genius like him can become a bit stupid at times.

I'm participating in the Animorphs bookclub and will actually read the ones I skipped this time, but man, the detail that Rachel always covered her walls with inspirational quotes on post-its but they've now changed from cute song lyrics to Sun Tzu. I love libraries.

I'm browsing the WWI shelves (as you do) and notice a very old book about the war. I glance at the first pages that talk about how one day the war will be over and we'll look at this place and not see any signs of the battlefield.

Then it hits me. And I check the publishing date.

This book was printed before the war's end. Not written. Printed. The physical object was created in 1918, while the war in question was raging and the end was as yet uncertain.

Now I'm standing on the other side of the apocalypse, with this physical link to that era in my hands. I'm living proof that the war did end and life did go on and we can all look at the end of the world as a long-ago memory.

Reading old books is cool enough, connecting our minds and hearts through the ideas of people who lived long ago, but there's something extra profound about holding a copy of the book that comes from the time that it was written. It's a physical link between the past and the present connecting me to those long-ago people. A piece of the past come into the future that gives me the chance to almost take the hand of some long-ago reader, to hold something they could have held, connecting not just mentally but physically to their era, a moment of connection across more than a century.
