KitNipBox Review

alright, so i got two boxes, I’d say that’s enough to start forming a solid opinion of this.  Kitnip Box is a cat subscription box that’s sent directly to your home (or like... wherever you tell them to send it.  You could send it to Not Your Home if you like).  It contains several toys and one treat.  If your cat has allergies, you can opt out of the treat and get an extra toy instead.  There’s no option to get allergen-free treats.

There are two box sizes.  The Happy Cat KitNipBox includes five items: 4 toys and one treat, and costs 19.99 USD per month.  The Multi-Cat KitNipBox includes seven treats per box: 6 toys and one treat, and costs 29.99 USD per month.   If you live in the US, shipping is free.  I opted for the Multi-Cat box because I have three cats and two of them are VERY active young adults.

Pros:

-The toys are well-made and have stood up VERY well to two young active cats, and one low energy arthritic senior.  It’s been two months since I got the first box and those toys are still going pretty strong. 

-Convenience.  I LIKE being at home.  I pay a lot for my rent and I am going to get my money’s worth out of it.

-My cats have enjoyed every toy.  There have been zero losers here.  Every single toy has been greeted with the same enthusiasm.  It’s just nice to have cat toys that are more interesting than the packaging.

-My cats have enjoyed the treats.  Again, this is a HUGE win.  My senior cat is incredibly picky---- it seriously took me 10 years to convince her to start eating wet food--- so the fact that she’s eagerly eating the treats is a pretty massive thing. 

-the packaging.  yes, my cats loved this too.  Yardstick learned to recognize the box VERY quickly.

-cute.  listen, it was VERY cute.  Everything was always wrapped up super nicely and that appealed to my aesthetic side.

Cons:

-A lack of variety in the toys.  I received 6 toys per box: one wand toy and five small toys which were basically just variations of ‘thing with a bell and/or catnip’.  There weren’t any feeding toys.  There weren’t any large toys that can be more easily kicked.  There weren’t any crinkly mats that a cat can roll around in.  Every toy is just a slight variation on the same toy type. 

-Catnip overload.  Most of the toys involved catnip.  If your cat doesn’t really care for catnip, they probably won’t be able to fully enjoy this box. 

-ok, this might be hard to explain.  One of the boxes I received was ‘holiday themed’.  But it wasn’t ‘holiday’ themed.   It was Christmas.  Every single toy inside was explicitly Christmas themed.  It felt very... isolating.  There’s just the expectation of Christmas as the cultural norm rather than recognizing it as a religious holiday that not everyone celebrates or even enjoys.

Just like... would it have killed them to include a Hannukah toy?  A Kwanzaa toy?  I just think that, if you’re going to make a holiday themed box, you should probably look into other holidays.  If you want to make a Christmas box, that’s fine.  Just call it that from the start and don’t pretend its anything else. 

-No option to select allergen-free treats.  My personal cats don’t have allergies, but my work cats do.  It would’ve been nice to be able to select ‘chicken-free’ options and get chicken-free treats.  I recognize that there are limitations on companies though.  Perhaps this will be an option later.

Whew!
