Elevate Your Pitch Elevator Pitch
There is either dread or delight when people are prompted something about themselves —dread, because in front of a job interviewer, people want to say the right thing, to impress, hopefully to land the role, then there is delight in basking under the spotlight to talk about themselves, an exhilarating experience, right? Of course, in scenario where your goal is to land a job, what you say…

One of my fav authors just said in their authors note that Sam and Dean retire from hunting like Hayao Miyazaki retires from film making. Which is literally soooo perfect…
Like they are DONE. They are OVER IT. Dean gets a job at a garage and watches too much Food Network. Sam’s working on a dissertation on American folklore. And then he’s conducting an oral history section of his thesis and the “Sasquatch” sighting his subject is describing is REALLY starting to sound like a wendigo….
And of course there are other hunters and they could pass it off. But they’re so close and they basically did all the research already and the undergrad Sam hired for help w interview transcription is just gonna keep poking her nose in it if it doesn’t get taken care of soon.
Anyways, this is the last one. After this, they’re DONE. For real this time.
#also can you tell how much i love history major sam….#that boy likes research and knowledge for knowledges sake WAY too much to be a lawyer be ffr#spn#supernatural#sam winchester#dean winchester#spn meta#mine#as always obligatory#wincest#tag#sams advisor assumed they were married when dean kept showing up w lunch#and now they’re in too deep

prince!ghost and lord in waiting!soap
ghost is a warrior prince, next in line after king price and it’s always been accepted he would be the lone ruler; never one for entertaining the courts or indulging foreign rulers trying to consolidate their power. he hardly acts like a prince at all, in name only when he spends more time as a pseudo captain of the guard. price has never begrudged him that, not when he himself has been a lone king since his inauguration
though he’s a warrior prince, he’s never lost the favour of the people; many see him as a guardian even if he doesn’t interact with the people as much as benevolent and stalwart king price. who he does interact with is the kingdom’s children; always ready to bend a knee and listen to bright voices, to praise stick swords and shields or hear the plight of a struggling family. it was a common belief that if he wasn’t out protecting, then he was with the protected; face covered, blonde curls shining in the sun
soap’s always loved ghost. as his lord in waiting, it’s been his job to attend him since they were young and even as a child, he’d idolised him; his skills in battle, his surety. he thought his life would be nothing but service, clothing a brat prince and making sure his shoes shined. but ghost has proven more than that; he treats him as an equal, consults him on strategy and court politics and over time that idolisation turned into love
and ghost has always felt the same. he’d begrudged the idea of a lord in waiting, not wanting someone always in his business but then came this spitfire who never missed an opportunity to push back on him; to make him dig deeper. johnny is more than some mere servant; he’s his confidant, his best friend, his… everything. he could be simon with him, not prince ghost
but simon figures that out too late
king price gets word from king shepherd, a kingdom they’ve only recently stopped feuding with and he’s offering up his son, prince graves, as a way to bond their kingdoms together and firmly put war behind them. price is ready to deny him, he doesn’t fear war from shepherd, when he sends some ancient laws that leave him unable to refuse. he hates it, hates that he’s ruining ghost’s happiness and feels like he’s betraying his adopted son but there’s nothing he can do
graves comes to their kingdom within the month and it’s clear from the moment he walks through their gates that he’s the opposite of ghost; arrogant and conceited, his ceremonial armour glossy and untouched by battle. he’s dismissive of their servants, of their ways, of their people and ghost hates him
graves insists that the wedding happen as soon as possible, pushing the craftsmen and cooks beyond their limits to prepare and every moment ghost spends with him, the more he dreads his wedding day. every evening he retreats to his room, exhausted, and it’s all johnny can do to keep him afloat; trying to keep him positive as ghost falls away and simon breaks in his arms. he wants to whisk him away like the old tales, the pain his oldest friend and love is in making his heart ache but all he can do is promise to be there with him
but it seems graves wants to take even him away
“soap’s been my lord in waiting since we were children,” ghost protests, voice barely clinging to civility. “i wouldn’t want to lose such a valuable worker.”
“there are plenty of decent servants in our kingdom; you’ll forget this one soon enough,” graves waves away, carding a possessive hand over his curls and it’s only bc he’s looking for it that soap sees ghost’s jaw twitch beneath his neck gaiter. “it’s custom for one marrying into our kingdom to embrace all that it has to offer, leaving who they were behind to become someone better. you’re entering a new life with me; you don’t need the baggage of this dreary place.”
soap feels sick as he walks behind them, his blank expression hiding all sign of his breaking heart.
“soap is beholden to me,” ghost declares. “we were sworn together by the old laws. i’m afraid a custom isn’t enough for me to break a vow to the gods.”
graves lets out a disgruntled noise, tugging harshly at one of ghost’s curls with only a thin veil of fondness; his conceding smile not reaching his eyes.
“i never made a vow to the gods,” johnny points out later. “price gave me to you because he was sick of me setting fire to the kitchens.”
simon hums and sets his freshly cleaned armour aside, turning to him with a twinkle in his eyes he’s barely seen since sheperd’s missive. “you pinkie swore that you would never leave me; that’s more powerful than any promise to the gods,” he says and soap’s thrown back fifteen years, to a willow tree big enough to touch the sky; to two boys from different stations who didn’t care that one was dressed in silk and the other in scraps.
johnny feels a lightness he hasn’t in a month as simon winks at him. “besides, do you really think graves is smart enough to figure it out?”
the days pass quickly, graves’ veneer of affection growing ever thinner, and before either of them are ready, it’s the eve of ghost’s wedding.
he’s said nothing, done nothing but stare at the wedding robes graves had tailored for him in the fashion of his kingdom and johnny doesn’t know how to break the silence. he draws out each second as he fusses with the cape piece and ensures the shoes shine in the fire light until he has no more excuses.
he sighs as he straightens up, brushing off polish onto his pants. “i suppose this is where i leave you,” he says with a weak smile but it quickly dies when simon still doesn’t look at him. “i’ll be here in the morning to help you get ready… good night, simon.”
johnny bows and makes for the door, trying to convince himself he didn’t just say goodbye.
but he’s stopped by simon’s hand loosely wrapping around his wrist.
he looks back as simon finally tears his eyes away from the robes, looking at him with such clear longing it almost brings him to his knees.
“i don’t want graves to be the first man to touch me, johnny,” he confesses and johnny’s breath hitches. “i don’t want to be married to another… not when the one i’m set to wed isn’t you. but if i have to do this… please let me feel loved one final time.”
simon’s thumb brushes the back of his hand; their kingdom’s greatest warrior caressing him with a touch light as silk. he doesn’t pull johnny in, doesn’t need to; johnny’s already sinking into his touch.
desperation and love tinge every movement; johnny dancing his fingers over simon’s neck gaiter until he all too happily removes it, baring his scarred cheeks and lips. johnny kisses each one, willing his love and his touch to linger above all others as they move together; sharing breath, sharing body, sharing soul the way they wish they always have.
when ghost makes his way down the aisle, it’s not in the fine embroidered robes graves had laid out for him. he’s in his battle armour; dark and weathered, the sign of the ghost, the warrior prince, going to battle. the only thing missing is his helm, tucked under his arm.
showing his hair; curls gone and shaved tight to his skin.
a thing done only in a time of great mourning.
graves looks irate and it’s the only spark of joy ghost feels as he stops before the altar; set beneath the willow tree where johnny promised himself to him. one final insult.
ghost is silent throughout the ceremony and in spirit and in grief, so is the entire gathered kingdom until the priestess reaches the final vows and suddenly, a great roar rises above the crowd as seemingly every child in the kingdom swarms the altar.
ghost is too shocked to do anything but let them push him away from graves, bullying their way between them like they’re preparing to protect him just as he’s always protected them.
graves is furious but the children stand firm in the face of his threats until he moves to strike one-
and freezes as soap’s blade finds his throat.
“you would dare hurt these children?” he growls, sword following graves as he stumbles back. “you’ve kept up your charade the entire time and here is where you show your true colours. i think it’s time i show mine.”
graves splutters as johnny turns to the priestess and king price, falling to one knee and offering up his blade. “your grace, i wish to challenge prince graves for the hand of prince simon!”
his voice rings clear and he feels the eyes of every person in the kingdom.
but he only cares for one man.
who is watching him with more love than he’s ever felt.
“who are you to challenge me?” graves sneers. “you’re nothing more than a servant; no better than the dirt on my boots.”
johnny doesn’t bother to look at him, too caught in the love in simon’s eyes and the grateful look on king price’s face. “then you should have nothing to worry about. you’ve been crowing your accolades from the rooftops since you got here; let’s see if you live up to the hype.”
because simon only ever introduced him as his lord in waiting.
never as sir soap- his second in command and one of the greatest swordsmen their kingdom has ever seen.
#soaps challenge over rules the law shepherd wrapped price up in and hes all too happy to grant it#and of course soap wins and the kingdom gets to witness the marriage of prince simon and sir johnny#im imagining soap as full highlander in the last scene#huge mohawk with braided sides running down his back kilt great sword the works#i dont know where this came from lmao i was half asleep listening to sick of losing soulmates by dodie and it was like i was possessed#which is my favourite type of inspiration i cant lie#laswell is the priestess and gaz is prices advisor or his lord in waiting im not sure#lord in waiting is the male equivalent of lady in waiting just btw as far as i know its like a personal handmaid#i did about half a second of googling then went of existing knowledge that could very easily be wrong#coming out of my cage and ive been doing just fine.txt#we’re a team. ghost team#soapghost#ghostsoap#ghoap#john soap mactavish#soap cod#simon ghost riley#ghost cod#john price#captain price#phillip graves#fic#au#save post

I feel like I've seen a lot of "Empress Padme" or "Sith Padme" stories where Padme's gets pushed to a breaking point and becomes evil or convinces herself into doing evil things in the name of justice, and while that's all entirely valid, I feel like I need more Empress SATINE stories.
Because Satine is, canonically, someone who is absolutely willing to go for torture and wrongful imprisonment when pushed far enough. She is someone who will performatively destroy things just to prove that she's "against corruption." Satine is someone who will see the consequences of her own choices happen and refuse to take an ounce of responsibility for it.
So I can absolutely see Satine becoming a violent tyrant while convincing herself and telling everyone else that she's just getting rid of corruption, she's just doing what has to be done. She will purify the world and anyone who tries to get in her way is just part of that corruption and will be eliminated.
Like maybe this is in an AU where she doesn't die during the attack by Maul and Death Watch, she manages to survive, but then she lives through the rise of the Empire and instead of being deposed by Gar Saxon, she fights back and fights back hard enough that Mandalore gets glassed early. And that pushes her to a breaking point because she REFUSES to let her people just... scatter, she WILL hold them together if it's the last thing she does, and she WILL get vengeance on the Empire for what it's done to Mandalore.
And poor sweet pacifist Duchess Satine just spirals further and further into her own darkness, convinced that she's just doing what she has to, swearing that it's necessary in the name of justice. But if her own people start questioning her, if they try to stop her, well they're probably spies for the Empire and she's promised to take out the Empire as vengeance for what was lost.
#star wars#satine kryze#satine critical#satine kryze critical#empress satine au#bo-katan is probably her general or her advisor or both#bo-katan is standing behind her telling her that their father would finally be proud of her for living up to the family name#and like at least obi-wan probably has no idea that the woman he had feelings for is turning into a monster just like anakin did#because obi-wan is off being a hermit on tatooine at this point#but man maybe after the events of the kenobi show he starts hearing news from beyond tatooine#and news of mandalore starts reaching him and he thinks it's just slander#but he has some sort of communication with bail at one point and asks about it and... it's true#and now he has to live with the knowledge that both anakin and satine became the things they swore to destroy#and now even if satine is technically still alive there's yet another person he has to mourn as if they were dead

Casual ZUN lore drop in the fortune book: Keine is not just a were-hakutaku, she is the were-hakutaku. The only one, there's no others. He also implies that the Lunarians might have been behind it (???). I dunno if I'll go with that but I'm happy to embrace her uniqueness as part of this blog canon too.
#muse: keine#character headcanons#Being a hakutaku is quite auspicious actually#They're the best advisors to rulers you can ask for#Divine beasts of knowledge#so being the one the only were-hakutaku is pretty special

Also wow crazy how having a class in which I am finally being forced to sit down and figure out my research is making me 200% more normal and wanting to do said research
#academia is no longer a war that i am losing at!! it is in fact a cool block of knowledge which i'm sort of vibing in a corner of#i'm sure it will at some point feel like a war i'm losing at again but did you know that defining what you're studying#and also what you're NOT studying is really liberating actually#it is fun to find out that everyone who has been telling me what i should be looking at for the last year and a half was right#but i'm just happy that i am finally managing to figure out what i am actually doing with this project#(also my advisor gave really useful comments on a paper i wrote last semester so that's probably also part of it)#anyways YAY in this house we love and support and owe our lives to grantwriting class for making us get our stuff together#perce rambles

i messed up my autopay on a new credit card and had to do this whole song and dance, so. from a former credit card cs rep to you:
TIPS FOR GETTING BANK FEES REMOVED:
schedule the payment, THEN call your cc company. (whether you forgot or just needed a few more days to get the payment together, the process will go smoother if you have at least the minimum scheduled.)
let them know you've scheduled your payment, and ask if they could possibly waive the late fee.
the first rep you talk to is likely going to say no. kindly ask to speak to their manager. (they might push back with a "jsyk, the manager can't do anything either/it's company policy, no one here can waive it!" that's ok. you're grateful for their help, but you still want to speak to a manager, just to check!
9/10 times the manager will waive it for you.
if you usually pay in full and any interest has accrued, you can also ask for this to be waived. sometimes it helps to have a good payment history, but even if you've been late or done this before, don't be afraid to try! where I worked, payment history didn't matter, we just had a set number of fees we could waive upon request a year (the number was 5).
tldr; frontline reps are literally trained to lie and discourage people from asking for fees to be waived - even though the managers can waive them! Easily!
(and ofc kindness goes a long way, I'd move mountains to try and find a loophole for people that were patient and. y'know. showed me basic human decency)
#anyways I'm not a financial advisor but i did work at a bank for 5 years and saw a lot of shit so maybe i will add to this#talking to my younger sister i realized a lot of things i assume are common knowledge aren't#idk what to tag this#life tips#finance tips

I'm in a reference class right now and I just get so irrationally angry about the requirements.
Like, obviously, the purpose of the class is to make sure all the theoretically-future (or sometimes current) librarians know how to actually look things up AND verify sources AND in a wide variety of subjects and topics. Yes, good, valuable, important.
BUT I hate it so much. I hate questions that sound like they came from an alien whose best human impression comes from old chatbots: "Who is Zora Neale Hurston? What is she known for? Does Sparkle Library have any of her books?" why are you asking the first two questions if you clearly know them enough to ask the third "What's this geologic feature I saw in town? What's its history? Where is it?" can I point you to Google Maps please "What is the meaning of the word fandom?" why am I required to find you four verified resources on a dictionary definition "Can you help me find articles about this topic" yes but our professor hasn't actually given us examples of how they'd 'verify' articles so IDK if this will work even though it's literally exactly how I'd do this in my actual library job where I provide reference services to college students.
#maybe it's that the prof wants things formatted in what feels like an unnatural way to me#like sorry if I cite Best Ref Websites 2003 to someone IRL I think that'd sound Dubious even if the site is still good 21 yrs later y'know?#I don't even know if I think there's a better way to teach this--I just hate the formality of it all#it feels so unnatural even though it's a valuable skill/knowledge#I'm currently signed up for the advanced reference class next and I think I'm gonna get my advisor to change my plan#because I will explode with another semester of this#library school#grad school#I am trying very hard not to assume I know things just because I already provide reference services#(especially since my job usually keeps to a fairly narrow type of reference)#but it's difficult when it feels like the alternative is 'Reference Provided by Exactly Zero Real Life People Ever'

How do you feel about that one anti woke mod that makes Astarian's ass flat?
It's my favourite mod, I can't stand his absurd, tight leather trousers.
#I did consult with my very knowledgeable advisor and she let me know this is a real mod.#Not only that‚ but one of multiple mods with a similar political ideology.#Obviously‚ I'm apalled people this hateful are out there.#But it *is* hilarious‚ I'm afraid.

𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗲, 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲, 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗲. After ridding himself of the orb at last, in fact, the wizard becomes a force that's once more unstoppable. He can cast spells without a word, capable of summoning infernos with a wave, and the ease in which he harnesses storms is frightening, but only as frightening as it is an art. Of course, Gale, however, had proved long ago his more prodigious talent. Still, to see him in action beats just listening to this talk. Gale is powerful, relearning all that he'd lost with alarming speed, and that's all a testament to his blinding brilliance--and, of course, his ingrained ambition. With the orb, the wizard had to limit all manner of casting. He had to sate his hunger, was forced to draw back as to not tempt fate, and with the orb in place snuffing his most powerful spells, was something of a tempest in a thick glass cage. However, with the orb finally gone, those limits have at last been lifted. He had became a level 12 wizard with a hell of a handicap, and with that handicap absent beyond its lingering scar, it's like all his previous mastery finally returned--and with force, mind you, like a strike of lightning. In a way, one could compare him to a runner stripped of their weights. He'd learned unparalleled control with an arcane bomb strapped, but now no longer fearing his imminent explosion, is free, as goes the metaphor, to cast a god damned marathon. And Gale is learned. Rather, he's disgustingly learned. He knows all schools of magic, is qualified to teach every field in Blackstaff, and he doesn't serve his city or own his own floating realm, but he'll once again become archwizard in those ways that matter--in his ability to cast and his hellish ferocity. Maybe he won't become as great as he had been with Mystra, but as a former chosen, it's a helluvan accomplishment. In time, Gale Dekarios becomes Gale, professor at Blackstaff, but as a testament to his ability, the city again warms to the idea of Gale of Waterdeep--because she's really only one Gale one could possibly need.
Of course, he doesn't advocate for the title... But it still delights him.
#HEADCANON.#Okay...so I had to see what really constitutes an archmage/archwizard cuz I'm back on my archmage Gale soapbox.#And he didn't serve the city like an advisor OR had all the fixings and domain like Karsus#so...I think archwizard for Gale is more in terms of his mastery of the Art#which is to say...yeah. Gale had a potent efficiency paired with his knowledge in high arcana#because why wouldn't he have that knowledge as Mystra's lover?#He might be a former chosen now but that knowledge doesn't go away#and Gale is sorta like Rock Lee when he took off his weights in the chuunin exams.#Don't @ me for my Naruto reference but I'm right. Gale without the orb after#learning to control it and his spell casting for so long#is kinda a menace now that he's been stripped of it.#I think being favored by Mystra allowed him to excel faster but Gale is still and had been a remarkable caster before Mystra#and will remain so after her. He isn't an archmage or archwizard in the traditional sense but he has a bar none unspeakable#talent in it and is so damn smart and capable and still sorta...I'm ngl...OP.#Also obsessed with ppl still calling him Gale of Waterdeep. Gale is not THAT ambitious anymore#so he didn't advocate for it...but it flatters him. And lbr Gale wouldn't quell his ambitions 100% anyway.#He's just wiser now. And a lot more humble with where those ambitions take him. He finds ample fulfillment simply teaching.

If I had a nickel for every email I’ve sent today that said “that is something you need to talk to your advisor about”, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.
#I have like 0 control over registration this far out from the start of the semester. Ask your advisor#I have 0 knowledge about the business major. Ask your advisor#Ask your advisor#if classes don’t start for several weeks then your question is probably not as course related as you think it is. Ask your advisor

(( Today, I am being spited by how much fun I have designing the magic system I use and how fun it would be to have Miranda talk about magical theory and applications of that theory, but how hard it actually is to get that conversation to happen. I am cursed in all things.
#Most secret royal advisor || OOC#(( also miranda purposefully plays dumb to her knowledge on this most of the time#(( and just doesn't want to talk about it#(( so it really is a matter of right time right place right mood#(( but IT'S SO FUN#(( come here i have a very fun little magic system that i also rarely get to explain
