My Sassy Girl (2001) dir. Kwak Jae-yong. 엽기적인 그녀 (2001) dir. 곽재용. 7.6/10
I wouldn't recommend this movie to my friends. I wouldn't rewatch this movie.
The vomit is nasty. The gum on the back is wild. The girl beating up Gyun Woo in the jail is wild.
Kinda dumb that the motel neighbor girl was like where have you been honey when her honey was literally in the shower. The soldier is so dramatic.
omg at the plush around the desktop computer. Lol I can't with these reenactments.
I like how the girl uses her boldness to do right things, albeit she's a lot. I truly love Jun Ji Hyun. Her expressions are great. We do want a man that just does what we say. The clunky weirdness of this movie is what gives it its vibe. I do like the contrast between the girl's demureness and her personality. The romance of this all is great though. Good music.
Where can I buy one of these time capsules?

230801 INTERVIEW | Do Kyung-soo says acting, singing not mutually exclusive
By Kwak Yeon-soo Do Kyung-soo, also known as D.O. of K-pop boy group EXO, mostly performs alone as a stranded astronaut in the sci-fi film "The Moon." Although he barely interacted with his co-stars while filming, he spent most of his time working closely with director Kim Yong-hwa. "I never met Kim Hee-ae during the filming. I saw her for the first time during press events for the movie. I only met Sul Kyung-gu about three times while filming. There were challenges of performing solo, but I didn't feel like I was on my own because director Kim Yong-hwa was on the set the entire time," he said during an interview with The Korea Times at a cafe in Seoul, Monday. Set in 2029, the film revolves around Hwang Seon-woo, who is left alone in space after losing two crewmembers during a lunar exploration mission. He tries to survive and find a way back to Earth with the help of the Naro Space Center and its former managing director Kim Jae-kook (Sul). Do recalled that wearing a heavy spacesuit was not a great experience. "The spacesuit was very heavy. It felt like putting on 10 kilograms (in fact, it weighed around five to six kilograms). What was more difficult is that I had to use wires to fake zero gravity and portray feelings of intense isolation," he said.
Tumblr media
The star revealed that his experience of learning and memorizing choreography as a K-pop idol helped him with performing stunts. "I actually pivoted from wall to wall in the spacecraft, which required core strength. The production team also spun the spacecraft to capture my movements," he said. "The wildest stunt for the movie required me to jump off a spacecraft to the surface of the moon. I was attached to wires, but everything else was real. It was like bungee jumping. I was freaked out," he added. Do said he was impressed by how the director shot the film and the outstanding visual effects. "It was mind-blowing and visually satisfying," he said. The actor said "The Moon" is different from other sci-fi films, because it has strong emotional cores. "Some say our film lacks humor, but the director cut out some really funny scenes to make the film better. I think it was necessary to convey Seon-woo, Jae-kook and Moon-young's (Kim Hee-ae) emotions," he said. The singer-actor expressed his desire to continue juggling two careers. "For the last 10 years, I managed to successfully juggle my music and acting careers. I worked so hard to prove myself. I want to continue pursuing both careers in the future, because I think acting and singing are not mutually exclusive," he said. "The Moon" hits theaters on Aug. 2.

1. Introduction
Welcome to my blog Golden Revival, dedicated to analyzing South Korean film and its industry. The main focus of this blog will be South Korea’s film Golden Age, taking place from the mid-1950s to the early 1970s, and its period of Revival, spanning from the late 1990s to the present day. This initial blog entry will serve as an introduction to both time periods, with some examples of key films and themes for each age of film, while also giving some historical insight into what outside sources and conflicts have influenced the film industry of South Korea. Let’s dive in!
The Golden Age
The Golden Age of South Korean film kicked off in the mid-1950s, with an increase in movie production from 15 films in 1954 to 111 films in 1959, the majority of which were melodramas. This spark in the industry was seen following the end of the Korean War (1950-1953) partly due to the rapid increase in production quality and the newly booming movie theatre attendance rates.
Up until 10 years prior, during the Japanese invasion, the movie theatres throughout South Korea had been divided up into theatres for Japanese citizens and, even fewer buildings, for South Korean citizens, which mainly showed activist pieces. With the liberation of South Korea, attendance rates of South Koreans at theatres began to rise as well, presenting the opportunity for further industry growth with an expanded audience.
Popular films throughout this period include Lee Kyu-Hwan’s retelling of Chunhyang-jeon (1955), Han Hyung-Mo’s Madame Freedom (1956), Kim Ki-Young’s The Housemaid (1960), Yu Hyun-Mok’s Obaltan (1960), and Kang Dae-Jin’s The Coachman (1961). Drama, more specifically melodrama, is a recurring genre throughout not only these popular films but also the majority of South Korean films to this time. This genre gained popularity through its entertaining and emotional pull, which is still seen by audiences in the South Korean film industry today.
The Revival
Following the Golden Age the film industry faced major censorship issues with exceeding levels of government control, reaching its height in 1970 during President Park Chung-Hee’s authoritarian-style presidential term. It wasn’t until the 1980s that the film industry would begin to recover once again, after the government started to ease up on its control over it, with laws being put in place to ensure this.
The Revival of South Korean film has also been referred to as the “Renaissance” of the country’s film industry, or “New Korean Cinema”, finding funding through chaebols. Throughout this time period the melodrama category continues to thrive among Korean audiences but has also begun to make waves internationally as well. With the globalization of film and media, South Korea has become home to one of the largest film industries in the world by capturing audiences with its captivating dramas and nail-biting thrillers. Along with sharing its own film culture with the rest of the world, South Korea’s film industry has also picked up a few things from various influencing countries. Action Blockbusters, which originated in the US, became popular due to its exciting twists and massive star power. Today, all of South Korea’s top-grossing films have been released within this period of Revival, with films that opened even more doors recently such as Bong Joon-Ho’s Parasite.
Other popular films throughout this period include Kang Je-Gyu’s Shiri (1999), Kwak Jae-Yong’s My Sassy Girl (2001), Park Chan-Wook’s Oldboy  (2003), and Yeon Sang-Ho’s Train to Busan (2016).

Korean Air beats Samsung Fire for fifth straight win, jumps to No. 5 in road construction
Tumblr media
Korean Air's Han Jung-yong, Lim Dong-hyuk combine for 26 points Korea Express wins 29 points in Burkina Faso
Korean Air extends its winning streak to five games with a sweep of Samsung Fire.
Korean Air swept Samsung Fire 3-0 (25-20 25-19 25-22) in the men's Dodram 2023-2024 V-League at Gyeyang Gymnasium in Incheon on Friday.
Riding a five-game winning streak, Korean Air (6-2, 19 points) pulled within striking distance of first-place Woori Card (7-1, 20 points).
Jeong Jung-yong (14 points) and Lim Dong-hyuk (12 points) led the way. Jung added three blocking points and one service ace. Lim Dong-hyuk had a very high attacking success rate of 60%.
Korean Air's team attack percentage was also high at 57.57%. The defense was also solid from the first set.
Despite losing their second straight match, Samsung Fire (5-3, 14 points) remained in third place.
Samsung Fire's foreign player Yosubani scored 14 points but had an offensive success rate in the low 30s. She also had 12 turnovers.
Korean Air dominated from the start of the game. Led by Jeong Jung-yong, Korean Air scored three straight points with a back-attack by Kwak Seung-seok and a block by Kim Kyu-min to take a 7-4 lead.
Korean Air then took the lead for good at 18-16 with back-to-back kills from Jung Jeong-yong before taking advantage of a Yosubani service error at 24-20 to take the first set.
Samsung Fire lost the first set helplessly due to Jupo Yosubani's poor play.
The second set followed a similar pattern. At 3-2, Cho Jae-young's fastball and Kwak Seung-seok's block made the difference. Korean Air extended its lead with a variety of attacks and widened the gap at 18-13 with a quick opener from Lincoln.
Korean Air pulled away from Samsung Fire late in the second set with kills from Lim Dong-hyuk, Lincoln, and Jung Jeong-yong.
With the victory in hand, Korean Air took the lead early in the third set with a quick offense that included fastballs and quick opens. They went on an 8-3 run and raised their opponents' spirits.
Samsung Fire fought back and tied the score at 14-14 with Yosubani's serve and attack.
Korean Air, however, capitalized on Yosubani's back-to-back errors to widen the gap to 17-14. At 24-22, Korean Air ended the match with another service error.
Samsung Fire self-destructed with 26 errors, 10 more than Korean Air.
Meanwhile, Korean Air surpassed 32,000 set wins for the first time in its history.
The women's team won 3-1 (25-23 25-22 18-25 26-24) against Pepper Savings Bank at the Gimcheon Indoor Gymnasium.
Foreign player Vukiric led the way with 29 points, while Tanacha and Jeon Sae-yan contributed 16 and 10 points, respectively.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak for DOT (2W-6D-9P), which moved up to fifth place, pushing IBK (3W-5D-8P) to sixth, and also avenged a first-round loss to Pepper Savings Bank.
Trailing 23-24 in the fourth set, the road construction company made a deuce with a timed attack by Bae Yuna, then ended the match with a service ace by Jeon Sae-yan and an open attack by Tanacha.
Pepper Savings Bank (2-6, 5-5) remained at the bottom of the standings.
Pepper Savings Bank's foreign players Yasmin (29 points), Park Jung-ah (17 points), and Lee Han-bi (12 points) struggled but could not prevent the loss. 슬롯사이트
