Tour de France 🇫🇷 (the journey)
July 22, 2023
Stage 20 (of 21) went right through the Alsace region of France, which is only a few hours from Stuttgart. It is also the Vosges mountains which equates to some hard cycling - these riders are absolute machines!

We stayed in a super cute village called Soultz-Haut-Rhin which is only about 15 miles away from the finish line (in Le Markstein). I strategically chose here because it’s on the wine route and it would be bike-able to the event. What I failed to account for was the 15 miles of 8% incline….which is about a 2.5 hour grind on the bike. Builds character….and an appreciation for what the riders endure for several days!
Our route started off on trails, then led to single track, which resulted in a lot of hiking. We did find a cute church in the middle of nowhere!
We were stoked when we found pavement for the rest of our upward journey. It included a lot of switchbacks and goats! (Play video).

Sign indicating we only had one more kilometer to go!

About 3/4 of the way up, we stopped at this awesome hut for lunch. Cheese pie gave us the energy to carry on!

Ahhhh, we have arrived at the top! Loads of bikers endured the suck with us because it is so much easier (maybe the wrong adjective) to get close to the action, verses a car.

9. Rhythm of your heart
Prompt used - listening to other's heartbeat | This one was among the most difficult to write and I'm still not sure how it turned out. |
" Hey , good morning, if you're woken up in the morning. Don't look for me. Just trust me and read this.
You remember the first night I spent at your place and you talked all about classical books, you told me about Greek mythology's, about how Muggle writers were far better than the Wizards or witches. If you don't, I do. It replays in my head every night before I go to sleep, think it helps me sleep, like a lullaby. I remember waking up in the middle of that night, I was sleeping on top of you, you know that frown on your face, it had gone. I remember looking up at your face and enjoying your beauty, I remember seeing how your blonde hair shone in the moonlight, I remember how your eyelashes Met your cheekbones, I remember the way your hair were tossled but it still looked magnificent. I remember your hand supporting my back, your leg between mine, my head on your chest. It was the first time I heard your heartbeat, and I think I've never heard anything more beautiful. I could've gotten up and slept on other couch but I was stuck there, I couldn't get up not because of how we were lying but because my heart stopped me. It told me stupid things about how I should touch your face, how I should caress your lips, how I should kiss your temple. Oh Heart, what a stupid thing but when what would we do without it . But the truth is I still want to do everything I said right now, these feelings never really changed, it grew stronger Every time I used you listen to you. I couldn't help it Draco, I couldn't. I wanted to stop feeling this way but I couldn't. It was like someone had held me down, prisoned me up but I- I was happy to be imprisoned.
You know that feeling when your heart flutters, those butterflies that swarm inside your stomach, the heart clenching feeling, the irresistible smile you get, that shivers, everything. I feel it, I feel it every time I see you . You do this to me Draco, not anyone else but you and you thought nobody could ever want you. I've counted days I couldn't be with you, I've counted minutes before you showed up, I've counted the moment we spent together, then how could you think that nobody could want you? I wanted you from that first night. I've always wanted you and I always will but when I see you right now sleeping, I see it, I see why we can't be together. I see it because I know you don't feel it the way I do.
Remember that greek mythology you told me about, how humans are originally created with 4 hands, 4 legs, 2 faces, 2 People in one but Zeus spilt them up and the split parts spends the rest of their life finding their other half ? I think I found mine, it's you . You're the other half of mine and it's unfortunate I can't have you because maybe, even if you are my other half, maybe you're Someone else's other half. Maybe the mythology is not for us.
You asked me why am I going away, why am I running away, leaving everything behind ? The truth is, I have no reason to stay. Everyone asked me to stay but you, you were the only one who didn't. I wish you had asked me to stay and Maybe I would've but you didn't. So here I am confessing in letter, I love you Draco malfoy, just not the same way you think I do. Maybe you are my soulmate but when have I ever not been an exception. Maybe after all I am destined to be alone. This is my goodbye to you, just like you asked me for " I deserve a special goodbye"..
Yours,
Harry "
And harry disapparted with his things.
_________________________
" no pansy you don't understand, he wasn't supposed to be leaving. That bastard wasn't supposed to leave for 3 days. I planned a the perfect date for that prat and he just fuckin left. Just like that . It's not fair, he had no right -" Draco's outburst was cut off my pansy shaking him
" I know Draco I know. He's a moron, he's a prat, he's a bastard but he's gone. He's gone honey -"
Draco sobbed falling on the couch behind him. He wanted Harry to stay so much, he did but he Just wanted everything to be so perfect to make him stay that he ruined everything. Now Harry was gone and nobody had his whereabouts.
" I'm sorry honey " pansy consoled Draco by rubbing his back.
" pansy, how could he-" he choked on his words. Pansy hugged Draco to provide him the comfort he looked for. He cried in her arms for as long as his throat went dry . He never expected this and the letter, he wanted to burn that letter. He was angry at him for just leaving like that but he was much heart broken than anything else. He had gone without a warning, he had simply gone without letting Draco explaining everything, without letting him tell the truth.
Draco didn't show up for work for the next 3 days, crying himself to sleep each time at the thought of Harry not being there anymore. He tried to think of every place possible but no matter wherever he went, Harry wasn't there. 3 days of trying with no success he had been left with just tears.
It was on the morning of the 4th day when Draco was woken up by very loud banging his door. He almost ran to the door assuming that Harry had came back but To his disappointment it was Ron. Draco allowed him inside and Ron stayed for a while with him, talking about how it was unforgivable of Harry to do that.
" I don't know if it will help but I hope it does, if you two really love each other as much as you say you do, it might help you find him and if you do, punch him in the face for me " Ron gave him the little device and with a curt nod, he left.
One last chance, Draco thought.
________________________________
Draco found himself outside a small cottage in a small village of Eguisheim, Haut-Rhin in France. He could feel it, he knew Harry was here but he wasn't sure anymore. His hopes had all extinguished with failed attempts but for one last time he wanted to stay longer than he did anywhere because it felt like he belonged there, it felt like harry was indeed here . He stayed outside the cottage all day until in the evening after he had dozed off, Someone was standing in front of him. Draco immediately got up collecting his things
" Draco ?" The boy asked furrowing his eyebrows in pure confusion.
" what are you doing here- wait- let's get inside " he said quickly opening the door and inviting Draco inside.
As soon as they gotten inside, when Harry had flicked on the lights, without wasting a second , Draco threw the letter at Harry's face and slapped him.
" o-ouch, what was that for ?" Harry asked with an amusing smile, lightly brushing his cheek where Draco had hit him not with much force but just to show his aggression.
" you bastard- moron- coward- prat- you insolent asshole- fucking asshole " Draco threw things he found at harry at every insult and as if Harry had found his amusing, in his efforts to shield himself he was chuckling at the other man's behaviour.
" you fuckin moron , you think this is funny " Draco finally cried throwing the last object.
" ok- okay fine I'm a moron but would you care to tell me why I am a Moron ?" Harry asked
" because y- you're fucking selfish. You so fucking selfish- yes right-selfish insolent asshole. You left everything, everyone, me behind with nothing but a fucking letter. How could you fucking thing I would be fucking fine with all of it ? how could you fucking think that it was okay to leave just like that without telling wherever you're going? how could you think it was fine to leave 2
3 days before you were actually supposed - how could you fucking think that it won't matter me or how it won't effect me - how could you bloody possibly think that I didn't feel the same way , how could you ??" Draco yelled at harry but before Harry could've said anything he pounced on Harry hugging him tightly, almost falling back in that process.
" i-i'm sorry I didn't know it effected you this much" Harry's Voice broke as he hugged him back tightly.
" you're right you should be sorry, you asshole. I hate you " Draco weeped in Harry's neck. Harry chuckled at Draco but didn't let go.
When they separated, Harry stared at Draco with the softest smile as if he was storing the memory safely in his head, relishing Draco's features again, allow his heart to dance again. Tear slipped from his right eye upon realising He had came , he had found Harry when he didn't wanted to be found.
" how did you find me ?" Harry finally asked.
" this "
" ah , Ron's deluminator. That prat" Harry chuckled in tears.
" i don't know how it works though. He didn't even tell me. He just gave it to me and left. I thought at first it was like a torch but just before I was leaving the house, and I flicked it on, it spoke your name. I had disapparted to almost all the possible places but then this afternoon I was at Eiffel tower remembering you had always said you wanted to go there when I picked a newspaper and the light just flickered above the news about this place. I just knew I had to go and then I followed the lights. And I found this place and the light vanished after going through my chest . I just knew then you'd be here " Draco explained. They hadn't even realised when had they sat down on the ground in the middle of the hallway , holding hands despite the fact that Draco was mad at harry. They enjoyed the closeness, the intimacy holding hands offered. They enjoyed being in each others presence again.
Harry looked at Draco with a teary grin. He bit his lip not believing it had actually happened. Draco was still flickering the light in his hand but it only Bounced between them and then dissolved.
" I- it was dumbledore's. He had left it in Ron's will before he died. During the run when Ron had left me and Hermione, he had one day appeared suddenly when I was almost about to die. He told about how this led his way back to us. I remember him saying that he still doesn't know how it works but he thought dumbledore knew he would need to find his way back to us. Something same sort happened with him too but it was Hermione's voice that called him to us " Harry explained remembering how he felt the same cherishing happiness when Ron had found him, right now.
" and they liked each other back then ?" Draco asked curiously glancing at harry before looking away.
Harry chuckled at the absurdity of the question " they had been pining over each other probably since the first year. They only realised around 5th year maybe or somewhere along the line. But yes to answer your question , yes they liked each other back then. Probably more than just that "
" oh " Draco replied. Harry now took both Draco's hands in his own, facing him and said " I don't know Draco how this works but now I think maybe it leads people to who their heart most desire. Think it takes you exactly to where and who you most wish to meet "
" might be true " Draco answered
" so you really desire me ?" Harry asked with an amused smile. Draco looked up at harry with am " you're unbelievable" expression.
" I love you Draco " Harry finally said.
Draco looked at harry fondly before he reached forward and kissed him softly in strong desperation and desire.
" I love you too " Draco mumbled against Harry's lips and they kissed again. Draco was finally home again, right where he belonged.

Nicolas Jean de Dieu Soult was among many young soldiers
Nicolas Jean de Dieu Soult was among many young soldiers who rose from obscurity to high command and established himself a gifted commander. Promoted to sergeant in 1791, his army training was in demand at the beginning of 1792 when he had been delivered as drill instructor to the 1st Battalion of Haut-Rhin. Six months afterwards, he had been encouraged to sous-lieutenant.
Soult's first significant battle arrived in March of 1793 when he fought Ueberfelsheim. After that year he had been promoted to captain and fought Bodenthal and Saverne before asking to join the team of the Army of Moselle. His petition was granted and that he had been connected to the headquarters of Taponier's branch. Fulfilling whatever demands were demanded, he often undertook special missions and struggled at Niederbronn.
Back in June Soult served in the Battle of Fleurus where he had five horses shot from underneath him.
Back in October, Soult's skills were recognized because he was encouraged to général p brigade and given command of a brigade at Hatry's branch, was a sergeant just 3 years before. Soult's brigade spent the upcoming months procuring Belgium and Luxembourg, and participate in the siege of Luxembourg. At one stage he had been encouraged by General Hoche to function in his army against the rebels at the Vendée, but Soult declined stating he loathed such function in his country.
Back in April of 1796, Soult married Louise Berg of Solingen, whom he'd met when quartered in her mum's house. Returning to his brigade served in Lefebvre's branch and fought in Altenkirchen, Wetzlar, Friedberg, and Wurzburg. The following year saw Soult taking control of the advance guard of Championnet's branch and functioning at Steinberg. In 1798 his branch was intended for the Army of England, but rather in April it joined the Army of Mainz.
After working with numerous divisions for the remainder of this calendar year, Soult's unit rejoined Lefebvre's branch in February of 1799. This March he took a part in the fighting Stockach, first taking control of this branch at Ostrach if Lefebvre was injured, and then directing the attack in Liptingen. Within fourteen days of those activities, he had been encouraged to général p branch.
A week afterwards, the military had united with Masséna's Army of Switzerland, also Soult had been awarded command of the 4th Division. He inhabited Schwyz and Altdorf, then received control of an extra branch, the 3rd Division. In the Battle of Zurich on September 25th, Soult's guys were not able to bridge the Linth River at a surprise assault on the Austrian shops. Soult and his men successfully bridged the river and amazed the Austrians, leading to the French success. Soult was given another branch and arranged to guide the operations against Russian General Suvorov.
In 1800, General Soult has been granted command of the Ideal wing of the Army of Italy under General Masséna. Their drive was soon pushed by the Austrians and they dropped back into Genoa and its powerful fortifications, starting a protracted siege. Soult often led sorties from the fortress to attack the encompassing places with some success. Regrettably, during one of those sorties on May 13th he had been struck by a ball in the leg, shattering it and making him unable to walk. As his aides tried to improvise a stretcher made from muskets, they were captured. Soult was assaulted and forced to survive his captivity in substantial pain. He'd no more direct in the front as because he had during the Revolution, along with his plans were more careful than before.

Bourdain was found unresponsive Friday morning by friend and chef Eric Ripert in the French city of Haut-Rhin. It called his death a suicide. Bourdain was born in New York City and was raised in Leonia, New Jersey. He had written that his love of food began as a youth while on a family vacation in France, when he ate his first oyster. He was candid about his personal struggles, saying that drug use led to his dropping out of Vassar College after two years. Bourdain was twice divorced and has a daughter from his second marriage. Funeral arrangements were not immediately available. #briefnews . . ✏️ What do you think? Comment below👇🏻 . . . Follow @briefworldnews . Follow @briefworldnews . Follow @briefworldnews . 40 European architecture projects shortlisted for Mies van der Rohe Award 2017
Finland's first high-rise wooden apartment building and OMA's Fondazione Prada art centre are among 40 projects shortlisted for the European Union's 2017 architecture prize, the Mies van der Rohe Award.
The biennial award– named after German-American architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe – is the most prestigious accolade in European architecture. It is awarded to the best building completed in the last two years by a European architect.
Fondazione Prada, Milan, Italy, by OMA
The 40 projects shortlisted for the 15th edition of the €60,000 (£51, 000) prize include four works each in France, Portugal and the United Kingdom, and three each in Denmark, Spain, Finland, the Netherlands and Norway.
Belgium, Germany, Ireland and Turkey each feature two shortlisted works, while Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Sweden each host one.
The 40 projects were selected from 355 works nominated for the award by a jury led by UK architect Stephen Bates and including architects Gonçalo Byrne, Peter Cachola Schmal, Pelin Derviş and Dominique Jakob.
Puukuokka Housing Block , Jyväskylä, Finland, by OOPEAA Office for Peripheral Architecture
A third of the works tackle the challenge of contemporary architecture in relation with built heritage, like the century-old distillery in Milan that OMA has turned into a new arts centre for Fondazione Prada and the European Hansemuseum, which includes the Lübeck Castle Friary monument.
Another third of the works are housing – from collective accommodation for elderly people in Barcelona to an eight-storey apartment block in Finland made with prefabricated modules of cross-laminated timber.
Turner Prize winner Assemble also features for its work on the Granby Four Streets project in Liverpool.
Rasu Houses, Vilnius, Lithuania, by Paleko Arch Studija and PLAZMA Architecture Studio
Five finalists will be named next month, and the overall winner will be announced in a ceremony on 26 May 2017 at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona – one of the architect's most famous works.
Past winners include Barozzi Veiga's Szczecin Philharmonic Hall in Poland (2015), the Harpa Concert and Conference Centre in Iceland (2013), David Chipperfield's Neus Museum in Berlin (2011) and Snøhetta's Opera House in Oslo (2009).
