How Do We Get There?
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, the environmental crisis cannot wait for a revolution to destroy capitalism, nor will a post-revolutionary society be environmentally sound unless we manage to change the relationship between humans and the rest of nature. As anarchists we need to be doing everything we can to bring these issues to the forefront. We have identified a number of approaches to this.
We must make the link between capitalism and environmental degradation explicit in our politics and critique the role of the state in facilitating this. This pamphlet is a first step towards this, but we also need to work towards the dissemination of these ideas in the wider movement.
We must insert ourselves into the mass climate movements such as divestment, climate marches and third sector campaigns to use these moments of publicity to put forward our ideas. We should try to win the battle of ideas in these movements and shift the aims away from the false solutions identified here.
We must push our unions to adopt an eco-syndicalist stance which argues for a just but rapid transition for workers in extractive industries. We must also, however, be internationalist in our scope and ensure victories for workers in MEDCs does not mean just pushing environmental problems onto workers in LEDCs.
We must use our anti-capitalist analysis to link up different struggles, so that it is clear that we are not facing disconnected problems, but that capitalism is at the heart of the issues that face the global working class. Land justice campaigns have a clear link to climate change as land owners decide how land is used and how resources are exploited, counter to a sustainable commons approach. Similarly, we have identified rising nationalism and authoritarianism as the state’s response to climate refugees. We must continue the work linking anti-capitalism and environmentalism with No Borders and migrant rights groups, ensuring the fair treatment of those affected by climate change in the future.
We must develop networks of like-minded people who are willing to campaign on these issues and work together to build our capacity to organise. A good example of this has been the anti-fracking protests in the UK where actions at the drilling sites have been amplified by activists elsewhere targeting the headquarters of the fracking companies and carrying out other solidarity actions. Some of these networks already exist so we should work more closely with groups such as Earth First!, Reclaim the Power and Rising Tide to further develop an activism which is both confrontational towards capitalism and is inclusive of local and global perspectives. These networks offer opportunities to develop our ideas further and collaborate on future projects and actions.
We should ensure the actions we take, and the struggles we link up for, leave us and others who take part stronger not weaker. We must avoid any so-called victory that relies on the ‘good will’ of a politician or the ‘expertise’ of an NGO. Win or lose, each action and campaign should leave us more aware of the world around us, more confident of our collective power, and more experienced in our ability to self-organise and take the fight to the capitalists. Within the environmental movement we must develop a diversity of tactics that is not dependent on the actions of politicians or corporations developing a conscience to achieve its goals.

house md revival is a good symptom
if u'll pardon the pun lol
Seeing house rated highly on netflix gives me some joy that media literacy isn't dead
Cus lets face it house on surface level is all slurs that could easily not vibe well with us gen z'ers (that's being charitable I forget how many racist / sexist jabs he makes but they're always making me go 🤨 and not just house everyone's morally questionable) but then the bigger narratives of every ep is so chefs kiss (like that TB episode scratching on performative activism with the guy who genuinely enjoyed advocating for healthcare in an LEDC but house being adamant the doctor was being selfish in the sense he loved the media attention) (or the one day one room ep on SA and abortion and assigning meaning to events out of our control, eugh it's always a treat seeing house become soft and unravel his true beliefs)
This isn't gonna be a long well thought out post, it just makes me happy the fandom is thriving and still finds things to appreciate abt this 20 yr old show. For its time I'd think it was rlly contrarian and i just devour the "everybody lies" theme

Special Edition Interview: Slovenia’s Minister Comments on Council Pace
Slovenian Press Agency, 24th August 2024
Down with monkeypox, the Slovenia Minister is having an online interview with a press reporter concurrently as the debate session is ongoing. As a LEDC, the Minister is certainly concerned with the financing aspects in order to transit towards greener solutions, and is heartened to see the council moving on to discuss financing of proposed solutions. Nonetheless, the Minister is confused with some of the solutions discussed, as many are yet to be consolidated and finalised with specific details. He suggests that perhaps solutions can be discussed in tandem with the funding mechanisms in place for each proposed solution. If there are too many solutions at hand, he believes it may be more productive to combine similar solutions, such as the energy grid proposed by Austria and cross border energy project proposed by Poland. He looks forward to seeing more discussion on solidifying solutions, building on funding mechanisms and moving council debate forward, as he recovers from the mpox virus.

[Major] LEAKKK
30 June 2020, Reuters
One day when the Governor of Saudi Arabia was grabbing coffee at a coffee shop, he was robbed of his laptop while discussing with his fellow Governors of China over text on a Draft Directive they hoped to introduce within the IMF.
The Draft Directive was leaked to the Press and it has led to immense anger by most. The key content points are as follows
The funding of LEDCs by MEDCs with loans and said funds should be used according to the IMF
These loans will need to be repaid without any interest till 2022
Distribution of humanitarian aid by the IMF, although the specifics were barely fleshed out
Establishing an education system to help these migrants
Provided the rising inflation rate, wealthier nations are now looking even less willing to provide these loans to “no interest rate till 2022”, which is something they believe will make their loans essentially worthless. However, the idea of distributing humanitarian aid has been greatly welcomed by all LEDCs, and aid has been passed out, although the lack of a structured and detailed process has led to inefficiencies. Governments have fully ignored the educational aspects within, as they believed that this would not be beneficial in any way shape or form in the current crisis, instead prioritising spending cash on dealing with the actual crisis.

Do yous believe that religious people tend to have lower IQs than non religious people because anytime I see an argument in a comment section the Christian does not know how to spell like damn use auto correct. via /r/atheism
Do yous believe that religious people tend to have lower IQ’s than non religious people because anytime I see an argument in a comment section the Christian does not know how to spell like damn use auto correct. Also I am pretty sure heavy religious beliefs are more prevalent in countries that have lower IQs and are LEDCs (less economically developed countries) and since these countries have worse education and resources than other countries people tend to turn to religion? Idk give me your thoughts please. Submitted October 20, 2023 at 01:17AM by Thelovecats33 (From Reddit https://ift.tt/cUlQpPO)

There's also MEDC/LEDC (More/Less Economically Developed Country). This is the best of the bunch, I think, because it implies the existence of a spectrum. Of course, really, dividing the whole world into two groups is a fairly reductive thing to do, and coming up with a good name for them isn't going to fix that.
I always struggle what to say when making a distinction between generally richer, more industrialized places, and the rest of the world
The term that's in right now is the "global north" vs the "global south", but I find this appallingly awful. Why put directions in there I'll kill you
"Developing world" vs "Developed world" is okay, I assume it went out of fashion because it's kind of like, the baggage of implying one group of people is "more developed" than another. This reasoning makes sense to me and I'm okay not to use these terms
But what's wrong with first world/third world? Can I still use that? If not is there literally anything else I can say other than the global South

Glossary
Capitalism: An economic and political system based on the exploitation of those forced to sell their labour to survive. In this system, trade, industry and major decisions which affect the environment are made by private owners who are driven by profit.
Green capitalism: As above but with more solar panels.
Neoliberalism: A political system of free markets, privatisation of once communal resources and minimal regulations exploiting workers or the environment.
Scientific consensus: An agreement amongst the majority of experts in a field about a scientific process. Over 97% of climate scientists agree humans are causing climate change.
Holistic: An approach which assumes parts of a system are intimately interconnected and must be treated as a whole.
Colonialism: The practice of occupying a territory to exploit its natural resources and inhabitants.
Greenwash: Actions taken by politicians and corporations to appear ‘green’ and environmentally friendly whilst doing nothing of consequence.
The state: The collected institutions that create and enforce laws created by a small minority of people within a territory. Through laws the state claims that only it has the right to use violence. The state uses the law to justify and protect a capitalist economy.

Open Source Waterfilter
The Open Source Ceramic Waterfilter is an ongoing research project in collaboration with various research institutes on the potential benefits of using Unfold's unique ceramic 3D printing process for the production of water filters in the developing world. The first water filter is a prototype commissioned by OpenStructures for the 2012 Istanbul Design Biennial. The OpenStructures WaterBoiler, originally designed and composed by Jesse Howard in collaboration with Thomas Lommée. The WaterBoiler is based on the OpenStructures design principles. In Unfold's adaptation, the water recipient, a salvaged, PET bottle, was replaced by a cut-through glass bottle that holds a ceramic water filter 3D printed using one of the machines that they developed. It further contains OS compatible parts designed by Fabio Lorefice (3D printed adaptor piece). http://unfold.be/pages/open-source-waterfilter  fig. 01-03: photography by Intrastructures

just had a very interesting conversation with my my grandfather abt climate change and how the government could be taking more affirmative action against it and how green energy needs to be implemented and further investigated ect. and he came up with the same argument everyone i talk to this abt has. What about the economy? Well if we look at it we can see that if we continue like this there wont be a habitable planet for the economy to profit mega rich politicians even further. So if everything needs to benefit like four fucking ppl a green, sustainable economy suits them. Additionally green energy would lessen the dependence of countries on war mongering countries with control over the oil supply creating a more equal world. And give donations and support to LEDCs to develop their green economy to achieve peace before we all die .

Capitalist (aka. Idiots) mindset:
raw material from LEDCs mined and farmed under UNFAIR labour laws and in UNSAFE conditions are bought for NEXT TO NOTHING prices, transported to MEDCs by ship (coz cheaper than airfare), THAT contributes to sea pollution (oil released by cargo ships) then get turned into MANUFACTURED goods which are made through the exploration of Women and children in Sweatshops. It THEN gets made into a product (phone, laptop,WHATEVER) that is manufactured to break forcing you to go to MNCs for repairs, inevitably making the RICH RICHER and the POOR POORER

Action?
15 June 2020, Reuters
The recent draft directive introduced into the International Monetary Fund today was released to the press, releasing shockwaves throughout the world. Given the exceptionally high inflation at this point in time, the IMF's decision to allow funds was a surprise, and economists around the world are questioning this decision.
The IMF's decision to directly finance businesses also took the world by surprise, and there has been a sudden uptick in business registration, probably an attempt to get a slice of this 200 million dollar pie.
The Draft Directive calling for these loans to only be sent to LEDCs has also caused a stir within the more Developed Countries of the World, who are the ones that generally fund the IMF. Provided that they are dealing with the same issues as the LEDCs, they have given out scathing remarks of the IMF and threatened to withdraw funding.

Cryptocurrency - 1/11/21
The word Cryptocurrency provokes a multitude of reactions, opinions and questions depending on who you’re talking to, from “what on Earth is that?”; to “I don’t understand how something with no intrinsic value can be selling for 10s of thousands of pounds” to “How many SHIB do you own?”. It’s very rare a market erupts in the way the cryptocurrency market has done in the last few years, with some investors documenting thousands of % gains in just days – unthinkable to the traditional investor.
While the crypto market brings endless opportunities, some might describe it as the Wild West – these days anyone can develop their own cryptocurrency on networks such as the Binance Smart Chain. This has brought with it the rise of a number of pump and dump schemes, where a ‘token’ developer can create a cryptocurrency, market it with the use of ‘influencers’ on social media; claiming that it’s the next Bitcoin so people buy it a drive up the price, before ‘pulling the rug’ and selling their entire holding for a substantial profit and sending the coin’s value crashing.
This begs the question, where’s the regulation to protect investors? As the market becomes more and more mainstream, surely governments need to start implementing legislation with the help of regulatory bodies, such as the FCA? We already know that Central banks around the world are developing digital versions of their domestic currencies, i.e. the digital pound and digital USD. This could suggest that regulation around digital currency must also be round the corner. The question is, what does this look like and how does this impact the market?
It’s no secret, that despite having progressive, real-world applications such as providing payment services to people, perhaps in LEDCs, that don’t have access to bank accounts and financial services; Cryptocurrencies could be the payment method of choice for many conducting illicit activities due to the anonymity the method provides. In which case, if the market suddenly became heavily regulated, could the ‘bubble’ burst? Conversely, could regulation cement cryptocurrency’s place in global markets and therefore attract an influx of new investment from those that were perhaps sceptical before about its “lack of intrinsic value”.
My personal view is that Cryptocurrency and the big names associated with it such as Bitcoin and Ethereum are here to stay. I guess for me, the main question is how does it transition from a tool for investment to an actual mainstream form of currency? I think we’re a long way off. Imagine accepting payment in cryptocurrency knowing there’s a chance those funds could be worth 20% less the next day; the optimists among us could say “it could be worth 20% more…” but it’s still a huge risk.
With all of the above considered, Ocean Capital Exchange have taken the decision to dip our toe in so to speak and are now offering our clients the ability to buy and sell digital assets with the help of a licensed financial institution as opposed to unlicensed exchange, like Binance. Our customers can buy and sell digital assets using their Credit/debit card or by making a bank transfer, they’re benefiting from competitive pricing but they’re sound in the knowledge that they’re dealing with a licensed financial institution and won’t have the issues some people face when trying to pay to or withdraw from the likes of Binance – a number of banks are regularly blocking these transactions.
When buying digital currencies, you can’t exactly stuff them under your mattress, you need a ‘wallet’. There are plenty out there to choose from, but if you don’t already have one set up, you can follow the ‘don’t have one?’ link and get one set up; it’s a very straight forward process. We can currently support the following assets AAVE, ADA, BTC, CEL, DEP, DFT, DOGE, ENJ, ETH, GALA, HEDG, KCS, LINK, MATIC, RFUEL, SAND, SHIB, UNI, UOS and XRP and this list is always growing.
To get started, simply follow this link https://fi.crymbo.com/a/oceancapitalexchange and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us on 0207 183 2026 or [email protected]
Cryptocurrencies are extremely volatile assets, always do your own research before buying!
Have a great week ahead. Daniel Swaisland Director – Ocean Capital Exchange Ltd

I have some 1billionamericans-pill hesitancy. Does migrating to the US from LEDCs cause an increase in ones lifetime carbon emissions?
i mean, probably, but it also causes an increase in QoL, and like...thats real, and valuable, and i think pretty damn worth it! like, we could do lots of things to make poor americans lives worse for the sake of producing less CO2, but people correctly understand thats like, human happiness is valuable, and trying to prevent people from reaching a higher standard of living is bad
