Creating a language learning Routine:
Developing a routine is central to being able to find success in language learning. I will mention the daily and weekly routines, and focus moments that will provide you with some structure as you remain concentrated and consistent through life’s highs and lows. Obviously you can like adjust these recommendations to fit your life since we all live different lives.
Daily Routine - This is foundational, and the reason why the Duo owl gets sad. When you are in a non-native environment, the daily routine allows you to be able to continue to make progress and be reminded of the language. I think with this, though, it is most important to be low with your daily expectations. Just being able to show up and study a little bit is amazing.
Recommended Resource: An App or flashcards
Simple 5-10 minute revision
Focus on details and small concepts
Weekly Routine - Finding a time to revisit your progress and make actual progress in advancing the language. This could be in a grammatical topic or an intense review of what you already know. I think the expectation for this would be 45 minutes to one hour.
Recommended Resource: Language Book
15-minute review of Daily progress
Introduction of a concept in the language
Sporadic Concentration Moments: This is when you like to have a full afternoon or day to devote to the language. I would probably expect this to exist maybe once per month. I wouldn’t count on these moments, but like when they happen they’re awesome. You can build a specific moment of fluency where you can feel proud of what you have done in the language. I also think this is a time to revisit your progress on the weekly as well as daily routines to see if they’re still affective and what you might want to change up.
Recommended Resource: Language Book, App and personal resource, such as a novel specific to the language.
Large concepts
Lots of Vocabulary
Planning for major
You can find a list of recommended resources linked in their specific sections. I think that earch resource is a tool that you can use to build your fluency and competency in a language. I also am showing my progress in Turkish as well as how I became fluent in French, Italian and Spanish. So follow along for more and I hope that these posts can inspire you to communicate in another language!

#turkishculture #solotravel #learningculture #solotraveling #solotraveler #languagelearning #learningturkish #muslimtravelers (at Taksim Camii) https://www.instagram.com/dhinnyelfazila/p/CYyScSirxJ8/?utm_medium=tumblr

Here's a random sign I saw one day in Turkey and wanted to decipher. Since I could only recognize a few words, I took this photo to translate later. Here's my current best attempt using the few words I know + machine translation... When I know more later, hopefully it'll be possible to translate everything written here. şehir merkezinde = in the city center
O daha bir yavrucak. = It's ??? Hasta ve aci çekiyor. = It's sick and ??? Nerede olduğu hakkinda bilginiz varsa, lütfen şu endereço yazin = If you have any info on its whereabouts, please contact endereço??? Does this mean someone lost their pet pigeon? 😭

A Lesson in Turkish
Turkish is a very difficult language. Like I said before, I thought it was going to be like Arabic but it's not similar at ALL!! This is what I learned after my first Turkish class.
Lesson # 39: Turkish is a mixture of Arabic, many random European languages and random only used in Turkey words.
As I'm doing my Turkish homework, I’m realizing that the whole Europe meets the middle east is embodied not just in Turkish people but in its language as well.
Kitap – book in Turkish Kitab – book in Arabic and Hindi
Vazo – vase in Turkish vaso – vase in Italian
Sabah – morning in Turkish and Arabic
Pardon – excuse me in Turkish and French
Pasta - pasta in italian Pasta - cake in turkish
In addition to all the similar words that I have to learn here. There are also new alphabet letters that are used in the Turkish language.
Lesson #40: Turkish letters not found in English alphabet = ğ ü ı ş ç ö
What I have learned:
The g is not pronounced but is a reminder to elongate the vowel.
Yes, that third letter is just an i without the dot on top. (For your information, it actually makes a completely different sound and I have found it incredibly hard when copying words on the board to not dot my i's.)
The ş and ç are supposed to be pronounced sh and ch respectively.
The rest I still need to learn.

Neighborhoods in downtown Istanbul because I'm trying to learn some very basic geography of the city 🤓 All info from Wikipedia. Karaköy = kara/black + köy/village Just across the Golden Horn (an inlet of the Bosphorus) from Eminönü. Eminönü = the name likely came from Emin, which was the title of an Ottoman customs official Mainly a commercial area, you can catch a ferry here or walk over to Karaköy via the Galata Bridge. Aksaray = ak/white + saray/palace A neighborhood in the Fatih district. Kasımpaşa = named after a military official who worked for Suleyman the Magnificent Wikipedia describes this as a working class neighborhood with a naval history.
Çevre yolu = ring road A highway also known as O-2 (Otoyol 2, Motorway 2). By the way, it turns out that all highways in Turkey are labeled as O + a number: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_otoyol_routes_in_Turkey
