Listening to the Greater Good audiobook and I love how Marc Thompson gives half of the Xodlak family Southern accents and the other half Russian accents.

I picked equally upset at either option.
In the first scenario, it only would have worked if he had a serious heart to heart with Obi-Wan, Ahsoka and/or other Jedi he really respected about the issues he was having at conforming to the Jedi lifestyle. Without talking through the issues, there would always be too much resentment built up towards the Order. I think Anakin would have always chafed under some of the rules of the Order, but maybe if he learned he wasn’t alone (ie, Obi-Wan also had a relationship with Satine), it might’ve helped.
In the second scenario, it only would have worked if they waited a while before getting married. As it is in canon, Anakin’s love for Padme is not a healthy thing. It’s obsessive. Dark. The Legends book The Clone Wars: Wild Space by Karen Miller does a good job of showing Anakin’s feelings towards Padme. Yes, he loves her, but it’s possessive and definitely a love susceptible to the manipulation of the Dark Side. I don’t think this scenario would have worked either because even removing any pressure from the Order would not making Anakin’s love for Padme any healthier.
For the first, assume they never married in the first place, because Padmé took an unknowing page from Satine’s book, and made Anakin wait until they were both in a more stable mental state/after the war. The part he's bummed about is that the relationship is this defined as impermanent and, as he intends to remain a Jedi, something that will have to end once Padmé starts looking to settle down unless the actual spouse is open to poly (and even then he knows he'd be jealous).
For the second, assume Anakin left on decent terms and still calls his Jedi friends up to get dinner when the Senate is convening, and sends people photos of the twins. The part he's bummed about is not getting to have a laser sword, the loss of Official Privileges, living among a community that understands him/that he grew up with, and possibly not being allowed to engage in the war to his full potential to save lives as he'd like.
This is not an invitation to tell me how immature or selfish you think Anakin was for trying to have both in canon. We know that part. We know he'd bitch and moan and accuse people of conspiring again him. I just want to know your opinions on which he'd have preferred if forced to choose in a calm environment instead of as part of a Sith plot to drive him insane.
This is also not an invitation to tell me about how you think the Jedi are evil or stifling or what have you. Do not project Christian trauma onto the space Buddhists.

Having people that I know outside or tumblr following my main blog on here feels uncomfortable (with 1 exception) and I don't really know why? Idk I'm like. Unapologetically cringe and unhinged on here and people aren't supposed to perceive that. Thus why this sideblog exists.

So Thrawn’s army of stormtroopers…
A) Are they reanimated corpses? Raised from the dead by the same Nightsister magick that raised Marrock?
B) Are they a cult that worships Thrawn like he’s their God?
C) Are they just batshit insane at this point?
D) All of the above?
E) Both B and C are correct

Yes! Rebels was my first exposure to anything with Thrawn, and like Ezra in the episode where we meet him, I was like, “oh god, who tf is this blue guy?” He was legit scary. His monologue to Hera about the kalikori and her being a child of war was so chilling. It was clear that he was an imp who was not to be trifled with. It was only later, when I read the canon trilogy, where we see Thrawn through the eyes of some of his allies and people who look up to him, that I realized there’s another side to him. A side that likes to educate and mentor, who doesn’t humiliate his underlings for the fun of it, who isn’t cruel for cruelty’s sake, who doesn’t always pick the “best” or the brightest people — just the ones who work to their fullest potential. But when we see him through the eyes of his enemies, he’s still that same icy voiced, scary mofo from Rebels.
Don’t get me wrong, I will still happily enjoy fanfics with hot Thrawn, and ones showing his kinder side. That’s the joy of fic. But I’m definitely looking forward to hearing Lars deliver some chilling Thrawn monologues in the Ahsoka series, especially since we’re definitely going to be seeing him as a baddie on screen.
Imagine wanting some pretty boy who can’t act to be playing Thrawn instead of Lars fucking Mikkelsen. Couldn’t be me. I’m a hundred percent here for the man who delivered the most chilling monologues and sick burns in that silky voice of his. Lars was on absolute fire in the season finale of Rebels. Remember when Thrawn had enough of Pryce’s bullshit and roasted the ever-living hell out of her, “I expected Governor Pryce to fail, but not so completely.” Remember when Ezra gave that long-winded speech about how they had beaten the Empire only for Thrawn to answer in the most I-couldn’t-give-a-shit tone, "Are you quite finished?” Remember Thrawn’s first lines in the show and how Lars delivered them expertly, “I will start my operations here, and pull the rebels apart piece by piece. They will be the architects of their own destruction.” Lars Mikkelsen embodies Thrawn perfectly, and I wouldn’t want anyone else but him in the role.

I’ve been listening to the Thrawn 2017 audiobook with my husband on our way to and from work. We just finished the Dromedar incident and got to the part where Captain Rossi gets all pissed off at Thrawn for saving the Dromedar’s crew instead of the Tibana gas. She suspends him, but then Thrawn razzle-dazzles her with some reverse psychology, getting her to kick Eli off the Blood Crow along with him. For those that don’t remember, the convo goes something like this:
Rossi: “One word out of you, Ensign, and your ass is staying behind on Ansion too.”
Eli: *seethes silently*
Thrawn: “i’M sUrE EnSigN VanTo WiLL bE Of gReAt VaLuE tO yOu On tHe ReMAiNDeR oF yOuR PaTroL.”
Rossi: “On SECOND thought, I can hardly deprive my extra special lieutenant of his aide. Congrats on the extended shore leave, Vanto. Peace, bitches.”
Eli: *surprised pikachu face*
At this point, shaking his head in disbelief, Ricky paused the audiobook. This was the conversation that followed:
Me: “What’s wrong?”
Ricky, exasperated: “Why is Thrawn OBSESSED with Eli?”
My brain, who’s an unapologetic Thranto shipper: «Where do I even BEGIN? Let me launch into a detailed monologue on how Thrawn and Eli are actually soulmates, only at this point in the story, Eli doesn’t know it yet.»
But in reality, I don’t want to sway his opinion, and I’m really curious about his unadulterated take on the Thrawn trilogy, so all I said was this:
Me: “Why do you think Thrawn is obsessed with him?”
Ricky: “I dunno, because he keeps manipulating his life? First he asked Palpatine to put Eli with him. Then he pulled that shit to get Eli assigned to the Blood Crow instead of the job he wanted. Now he’s getting Eli kicked off the Blood Crow too. Wherever Thrawn goes, he’s making sure Eli comes with him. Seems pretty obsessive to me.”
Me: “Hmm…”
Ricky, thoughfully: “…Is Thrawn in love with Eli or something?”
My brain: «Yes. Definitely.»
Ricky, not waiting for an answer: “Well, my man Eli better watch his back. Thrawn seems like the kind of dude who’s got people chained up in his basement.”
My brain: «Yep. I’ve definitely read that fic before.»
Me: “Lucky for Eli they don’t have basements in space.”
Ricky: “Are they still roommates? He might not actually need a basement…”
My brain: «And they were ROOMMATES!»
So I really enjoyed my husband’s take for several reasons. Firstly, he picked up right away on the fact that Thrawn’s early relationship with Eli was super manipulative. When I first read the book, I think I was wearing Thranto-colored glasses. I only saw the things I wanted to see. Like how Thrawn saw potential in Eli and wanted to cultivate it. Or maybe it was the bonding experience of Thrawn and Eli both being outcasts together, “the Wild Space yokel and the Unknown Regions alien”; they could succeed when all those core-worlders wanted to see them fail. But in reality, even if he did indeed see potential in Eli, Thrawn screwing around with his whole life and career was hella manipulative. Of course I know now that Thrawn wanted to keep him close because there was concern of Eli being a spy or even a Grysk plant. Even though he did indeed come to appreciate Eli’s unique talents over time, that’s not why he kept him close at first. But I was impressed that Ricky immediately called Thrawn’s behavior out as “obsessive,” because…well, it does come off that way.
Secondly, the Thranto shipper in me found it really interesting that Ricky asked me, “Is Thrawn in love with Eli or something?” Even though the love in question is of the manipulative and obsessive variety, I found it interesting that that word crossed his mind. It goes to show that even people who aren’t looking for it, and who aren’t reading between the lines, can pick up on some sort of Thranto vibe while reading (or in our case, listening to) this book. I really can’t wait to hear what he thinks once Eli’s loyalty to Thrawn begins to grow.

You know what tonight has really made me realize? I try my hardest. At least, I try to try my hardest. I really do. But that's never gonna be enough for anyone, huh? Never has been and never will be. And yet there's nothing I can do about that other than push myself to the brink. To the breaking point. It's not enough and will never be enough until I break into a million pieces then watch as people act like there were no signs. Act like there was nothing they could've done. Maybe even act like it was my fault. Well I'll give them what they want soon enough.

Yes! Thrawn canonically picks up mentees, protégés and right hand men/women all the time. He’s never had the need to surround himself with people who are “The Best.” He’s always surrounded himself with people in whom he sees potential, and who are willing to work hard and grow. In exchange, these people are often fiercely loyal to Thrawn. We’ve seen his relationship with Eli and Pellaeon and Karyn and Thalias and Che’ri and Car’das. And now there’s Morgan, who’s been referred to as Thrawn’s apprentice, and Enoch, who’s said to be Thrawn’s current right hand man. Just because we’re seeing Pellaeon, Morgan and Enoch in the tv series doesn’t undermine or negate the relationship Thrawn once had with Eli. I definitely think all Thrawn’s protégés/mentees/apprentices/right hand people can coexist in canon.
Idk why people think Eli and Pelleaon can’t coexist in canon….
Because, for one thing, they literally already do? They were both fully in Thrawn:Treason.
But second, and more importantly, why can’t Thrawn have two different loyal right hand men at complete separate points in his life? That’s like saying Palpatine taking Vader on as an apprentice decanonizes Maul and Dooku.
And yes, I recognize that people are concerned that Eli won’t get mentioned in Thrawn’s live action appearances, but as long as Lars doesn’t look at the camera and say “I never had an aide named Eli Vanto” then we can safely assume that Eli’s still kicking it with the Chiss completely separate from any of the nonsense going on in Lesser Space.
