Stopping by one of our local farmers to see how they’re doing only to find they’ve got this whole operation in place!! Got acquainted with the whole family, turns out they’ve got their own little honey production going, and the berries are out mid June!! Farmers market withdrawals appeased. Honestly, don’t be afraid to drop by or call in to check up on your local farms. With so much business having been lost, livestock to take care of, and produce at the ready, there’s been an uptick of locals banding together and just figuring it out. With the rain showers letting up this morning, we had a chance to visit the Locavore Farmers Market for the first time. A new venture of African Christian College, @locavoreeswatini is practicing sustainable, organic agriculture to grow produce for their community and student body. As fall settles in, I’m just taking a breath from all the summer family session fun that was had by all. I’m very behind in my blogging, so I’ll just start from here. 

I’m always thrilled to explore new spaces with families, camera in hand, and this session was a perfect example of just that. I’m feeling like a newbie back on the East Coast as I experience it through a family’s eyes for the first time, as a parent. As soon as we came out of winter, I discovered that farms are like the golden egg of a family afternoon outdoor adventure. Meadow Mist Farm in Lexington was the backdrop for this specific outing and it brought so much joy to us all on this late July day.

We went to Meadow Mist Farm in Lexington to hang out with some chickens, admire some cows, “baa” at some sheep, and frolick on the grounds. The summer was in its prime - sunny and not too humid - and we had the farm to ourselves. The girls jumped in and out of their parents arms, peered in the pastures and coops, and ran their fingers over flower petals. They were all at once curious, spunky, shy, and exhausted from a loooong summer day. 

This family, like all of my favorites, were down to have some fun at their favorite local farm and see what happened along the way. I photographed as I always do - tagging along behind the action, anticipating the grandeur of small, barely perceptible moments, gestures, and embraces. This foursome gave me their all and more. The littlest one was so tuckered out but I caught her before the end with her mama, taking in the air, sun, and flowers. Sometimes it’s all about the still moments and on this lovely day, stillness was the move.
