Hello! Can you talk about the relationship between Querl and Lyle. I haven’t read the legion series yet but I saw a comic panel of Querl kissing Lyle on the cheek! WHAT IS GOING ON! :)

Please meet the Post-Zero Hour Legion of Super-Heroes that stars a huge cast, including canonly gay (confirmed by writers) Lyle Norg and canonly queer Querl Dox.

Their first meetings began in 1994 where they at first had a bit of a rivalry (but both had deep respect for the other, it was never hostile) going on because they are both geniuses with some overlap in interests. Querl is Brainiac 5 with difficulty expressing his emotions and Lyle is a genius biochemist who is deeply repressed and also has difficulty showing his real self.

It took time but in the final issues of their run they find close "friendship" with each other that the writers (Abnett and Lanning) intended to be romantic but were told 'no' because it was the early 2000s.

Regardless, they got away with showing what they did.

If you have the spoons I highly recommend reading the PZH run, it is long, over 200 issues including the closing series, but it is so worth it.

I think we need to settle the Querllyle vs. Lylequerl debate the old fashioned, pre-AO3 way. We must decide who, without any variation, switching or room for nuance, tops and who bottoms. This will also be important in determining how much their 2.5 cm height difference needs to be exaggerated.

Earthgov Querl/Lyle separation dialog rattling in my head.

"I would have given you all the days of my life, Querl. Every one would have been yours."

"The following centuries endured alone without you would have been worth those days, Lyle."

Lyle just minding his own damn business and Earthgov just taps him like "Hey your romantic partner choice is too high of a risk, you must end the association immediately" and he's all "the what fuck off" and everything falls apart.

I still going insane over the government plot plot. Both Querl and Lyle masking so hard because how else do they know how to cope with that and at the same time absolutely falling apart inside and needing each other, while that's probably the worst thing they could do to help themselves in the long run.

Lyle's ignorant willful fantasy that he has control over Earthgov and can get out of it really hits me. He truly believes can twist and bend the rules, he can play them and get what he wants - or he can still have his life with Querl, in secret, hiding it, burying it - meeting him on the fringe of Sol Space and it's a tragedy that for all his creativity and genius he cannot get out from under Earthgov.

Querl would probably entertain it for a while before going back into that sort of apathetic shield because that's his defense mechanism, he shuts down and knows that if a world government decides on something, they have no power over it. They can create machines that send them through time, and let them see worlds that have never been seen before but they cannot make their governments let them be together or see them as free.

Nothing like mutually shared trauma to bring two characters closer together.
