Nearly every flight in the U.S. is grounded right now following a CrowdStrike system update error … but not Southwest Airlines flights. Southwest is still flying high, unaffected by the outage that’s plaguing the world today, and that’s apparently because it’s using Windows 3.1.

Remember what they took from you.

You can have your windows in white or black, with a single accent color.

That's somehow worse than the Mac had when Windows 3.x and 95 let you change almost every individual part!

Seriously Windows! You go from "everything down to the edges of the buttons (but not the little graphical ones because the video driver handles those) to "still almost everything but the button color now affects a bunch of things" (and the edges are now determined from the face) to "if you want the fancy shit you get what you're offered but otherwise the old system is still there" to... black or white windows and a single custom accent.

I swear every time I rewatch this show there's SOMETHING I only just now notice.

We know that the Pilot starts with the 90s Video Game style title screen. Indicating this is on a 90s computer.

And we see said computer at the end of the episode.

So that's a "Well Duh" thing to say.

I can't tell you exactly WHICH computer that is.

I THINK it looks like Windows 98.

I don't know much about Computer history that isn't Microsoft. I'm sorry. Call me out. I'm a Microsoft Windows XP kid.

I WILL BE COMING BACK TO THIS FOR EPISODE 3.

The original Microsoft Windows copies, the ones with no sound to them at all, came out in the 80s.

1985 to be exact.

The first MAJOR release of a version of Windows was 1992. The first NINETIES version of Windows.

3.1 was the first version to also include startup/shutdown jingles.

There's also Windows 95, that came out in, well, 1995.

There's the NT Workstation Windows.

And there's Windows 98.

THESE are the MAJOR Windows versions that came out in the 90s.

AND BEFORE YOU SAY 2000 COUNTS, NO IT DOESN'T. THAT'S TECHNICALLY NOT 90s. THAT'S TOO LATE FOR THE TIME FRAME WE'RE TALKING ABOUT.

I mean I guess there was also Windows Me in that category as well. But uh, raise your hand if you like Windows Me and/or are nostalgic for it in any way.

IN THE EPISODE, there's a WIDESCREEN TRANSITION as we zoom in THROUGH THE SCREEN.
